Self Post Sundays! - December 10, 2017

Posted: 09 Dec 2017 08:09 PM PST

To foster more discussion about the games every Sunday we turn the subreddit into self-post only mode.

Self-Post Sundays are our main discussion day. On those days we only allow text posts directly about the games themselves.

Please save your images, fan art, screenshots, videos, etc to the other days of the week. Use this day to discuss the games. Other posts will be removed.

[Spoiler] The layout of the new BOTW dungeon...

It's totally a flat 4-cylinder engine. Which makes sense because you get the motorcycle after completing it.

[Spoiler] The final memory of Champion's Ballad...

Posted: 10 Dec 2017 08:15 AM PST

So, after watching the last cutscene where they all get together for a group photo, I began to wonder who, exactly, was taking the photo. Then it hit me: Purah! Not only because it would make sense but also because right at the end you hear the voice go "click, SNAP!" Just like a certain, reversed-aged sheikah scientist... Just kinda cool they decided to add her voice.

The final boss fight of the champions ballad was one of the best in the entire series

Great music, great atmosphere, interesting attack patterns and mechanics. I loved every second of it.

Is anybody else sick of unupgradable DLC armour?

Posted: 09 Dec 2017 06:36 PM PST

I love the DLC armour, ESPECIALLY Athena newest batch we just got from the recently released DLC, but the one thing I hate is that you cannot upgrade ANY of it! It makes the armour useless by end-game(except for one set that I'm not going to name because spoilers) because their defence stats are way too low for late game! All the armour sets have a cool look to them, have remixed abilities, and you also have to pay money for them, yet they aren't upgradeable, so they're only good for early-game, which sucks...

Why do some people think this!?

Posted: 10 Dec 2017 09:06 AM PST

Why do people think "MM Link" is his own separate reincarnation? I don't understand why people say "MM Link is my favorite"... that's the Hero of Time... he's the same Link from OOT... I don't see how some don't understand this. Like did some people only play MM and not OOT? Or...? I mean yeah refer to him however ya please but cmon it's the Hero of Time Link, not "MM Link" same people but give the man his title! Nobody in Hyrule gave it to him, he deserves it!

Some thoughts about why I can't like Mipha's story *spoilers*

Posted: 09 Dec 2017 06:13 PM PST

I need to get some things about Mipha off my chest, because they've been bothering me for a while and I want to talk them over with people. I welcome any thoughts or discussion her fans or her other detractors have on the subject.

The core of my complaint is her relationship with Link, specifically the way it ends up defining everything about her. When you talk to Sidon or the Zora King about her, for example, they talk about how she loved Link. When you read her diary, it talks about how she loved Link. When you view memories about her, they're about her love for Link. Link, Link, Link.

Occasionally they'll instead talk about how she's a kind person who wants to heal people, but they way they choose to do that is via a memory where she talks about how she wants to heal link and support him. Or they'll talk about how she wants to pilot a Divine Beast, but the main driving force behind that is, again, Link. She gets far more plot relevance and backstory than the other three champions, but all they ever seem to want to do with that extra time is develop a tragic romance.

There's really only one scene involving her that avoids that pitfall, which is the end of her new memory scene in DLC 2. The diary we get in the DLC, as well as the beginning of the DLC memory, are again about Link, but then she helps little Sidon scale a waterfall for the first time. It really is a beautiful moment, and if the base game and the rest of her DLC content had focused more on that, I could've really liked Mipha. But, unfortunately, that's just one scene.

I got so frustrated playing through the game because of how they wrote her so that her entire life revolves around the person she loves, and I came online expecting to find other people who felt the same, but... instead it seems that everyone loves her. She's far and away the most popular character in the game, even more so than Zelda herself, who's a much more dynamic, fleshed out and multilayered character. Discussion of Mipha seems to always be about how beautifully tragic her story is, as though her story making the player sad is the same as the story itself being good.

It's like... when you think about bad romances aimed at girls, like Twilight for example, the idea is usually something along the lines of "you're an ordinary girl, but then this amazing guy comes along and picks you, and it's all dramatic and romantic!" This sort of story gets widely panned in video game communities. But there is a close parallel to that type of story marketed at boys, which is "there'll be this really sad, cute girl, but you can be her White Knight and protect her and she'll love you!" and this type of story tends to get lauded in such communities.

In a nutshell, I'm just frustrated that Mipha's written in a way that exemplifies all the problems I have with the way female love interests are written, and doubly frustrated that she's become so beloved in spite of - or even because of - that.

What happens when you face the DLC boss twice?

Posted: 10 Dec 2017 09:01 AM PST

This is possible and it starts off with him saying he has nothing to offer you, so I couldn't be bothered to do it again. But I'm just wondering if dialogue is different, if it goes through getting the master cycle again and the final cutscene with Kass, does it bother to do all that? Basically... I want someone else to do it because I'm too lazy (and in case someone already has)

When you sell your soul to The Calamity to save Zelda's life...

Posted: 09 Dec 2017 05:32 PM PST

I want three more DLCs. Here are my three favorites. What are yours?

Posted: 10 Dec 2017 06:21 AM PST

  • Post game repair hyrule, fend off bandits, fend off some new boss bad guy who is in charge of the bandits, and clean up everything on the map. Get the whole place in order. I want some interactions with Zelda. I want character building. I want some closure.

  • Then I want a few year time skip. What does young adult link do? More towns built, more small villages, shops, trade routes, Castledown expanded tons of characters that you can interact with, game shops, more relationship progression, maybe he can get married, maybe we get to see he has a kid, just give us his future.

  • Island DLC! Expand the islands around hyrule. Give Link a ship and a crew that he can hire. Make some wild islands with glowing plants, make an island of the bandits from the other DLC, make a whole new race! etc. Just fun island expansions.

[Spoiler] Was anyone else expecting a "true" alternate ending for BOTW after completing DLC 2?

Posted: 09 Dec 2017 05:31 PM PST

So once you beat the final boss at the end and talk to Kass, Zelda speaks to you saying that you are now powerful enough to defeat Ganon, "Truly". I thought by truly, it was refering to being able to play the game/see what happens after Ganon is rid from the world and doesn't have control over the castle.

So I go to Hyrule Castle and stomp him, expecting an alternate ending or at the least being able to play the after game without Ganon in the world. But I just get the original ending and am put back right at the front of Hyrule Castle right before beating him. :/

I really hope more DLC's get released for BotW.

Posted: 09 Dec 2017 01:14 PM PST

DLC 1 and 2 were nice but still makes me feel like something is missing if Breath of the Wild, so here is what I am Hoping for content in Future DLC's (No Particular Order for release):

  • Better House: Found out that there is a Clothing Inventory limit. I did not Know until I tried to finish buying a 3rd set of duplicates to have as a different color (Decided to buy extra gear to make different colors so I could have all armors in every color), turns out you cannot own that many.

So I would Like a house with storage abilities for all items and the option to buy a comfy bed, water bed and so on.

  • Add Amiibo Content for other Characters, I would Love both of the Final Fantasy 7 Cloud gear and Items and so on, not fair that the Salvager's gear is the only cross game (Not LoZ) that is in BotW, makes me want other game Items.

  • Make a rebuilding Hyrule Main quest, first is to stop the Blood moon from appearing, when you complete this you will receive a Talisman of the Corrupted which when used will create a blood moon otherwise if not used, no more monsters will respawn.

Then You start doing quests to rebuild all buildings and towns, then recreate alot of the ruin cities and get rid of all graveyards and so on.

  • Have a Trial by Shield and Bow quests added, this would unlock the Bow of Light as a Permanent weapon (But will need to recharge every so often) and the Mirror Shield (Magic Shield) (But too will need to recharge every so often, but parrying guardian beams will recharge shield everytime)

  • Have a Shield Rune for Shieka slate: when rune is selected, just pushing the shield button would open a Guardian type shield, but limit is you must go to lab to recharge and pay for level of charge, so the strength and Durability of the Shieka shield will vary depending on how much you pay. but this would be good in a pinch if all your current shields are broken and you need one.

  • Have a Series of Runes (Or talisman's) that can summon a specific Creature to you to fight so you do not have to run around.

So a rune (or Talisman) for Lynels and so on, this would be great for training and gathering goods from them, also with this series of runes, the Creators could put other monsters in the game that can only be fought against by summoning them.

Also if it is a Talisman, you can only get them from Monster part Dealer after you turn in the Specific amount of parts from Specific creatures, Bosses are not included in this.

  • Masks from OoT like the mask of truth, the Pikachu looking mask and so on.

  • Masks from Majora's Mask that actually transform you into the race and Benefit from there effects, like never Drowning as a Zora, "Swim" through lava as a Goron, Fly like a Rito (I know not in MM but would be nice), and so on.

  • Armors from other LoZ games and their counterparts, like the NES Version, We have the original Tunic already but not the White one or the Red one you get when you collect the rings, and the Red and blue from OoT, Would love the Heavy boots and Blue tunic to breath under water and walk, creators would only need to create a unbeatable water monster for ocean edges that spawn when you go too far out.

  • A main quest to rebuild the Twilight Mirror (You can find the Ruins in BotW) and actually visit a portion of the kingdom to see how the Twilight Event happened during the BotW history)

  • A Dark Link Quest line: Where you are Dark Link (Have to have purchased the Dark Link outfit from Monster part Dealer), once you put on the outfit and go to a certain area, you will teleport to an area and have to play in that form until completed, once you do, the Dark Link Outfit will have a couple new Powers/abilities, No monster will attack you unless provoked/attacked by you, including bosses (Ganon's excluded), your master sword will shoot a dark energy beam instead, You will have stealth (Since you are a Shadow being), and Shadow markers will be on your map while wearing outfit that will teleport you to dark areas that are in different locations away from the normal Shrine teleport markers, including inside the Malice ridden castle.

Also can unlock the Dark Link Shadow Items like the Dark Master Sword, Bow and Shield.

  • New Shrines that unlock Heart Container Armor: this will increase your heart count by one with every 4 shines completed, your hearts with this armor will have a goldish outline around them that breaks a piece when damaged until all armor is destroyed and then you regular hearts get damaged.

  • A Princess Zelda Main quest: you play as her through the events until she faces ganon alone, this will complete her side of the story.

  • Last but not least since this list is Long.

Other partner Unlocks:

I would love the ability to have these as a partner besides Wolf Link:

  • Navi: can heal you from Death 3 times before disappearing.

  • Talt: Same as Navi

  • Tael: Increases Links Strength by 2x, but is vulnerable to enemy attacks.

  • Skull Kid: Fights with Link

  • Skull Kid with Majora's mask on: Prevents monsters from attacking Link and will help Link if attacked, If link wears fierce Deity outfit, then Skull Kid with Mask will Attack Link out of fear, if Link is wearing Dark Link Gear, Skull Kid will Increase attack power.

  • Midna: This is a special summon, must have wolf link amiibo and do a quest, once completed, when you summon Wolf Link, Midna will be on his back. She will help fight with wolf link and help Wolf link Climb/fly to Keep up with Link.

  • One of the 4 Champions: Must complete a quest for each to get their Soul Stone and "Resurrect" them, this would cause a commotion in their home cities but then would open new things, but they would fight like not tomorrow with their best gear and items.

  • Cucco: having this as a companion would mean that if link was attacked, a flock of Cucco's would come in to save him.

What do you all think?

Help for new player?

Posted: 10 Dec 2017 07:19 AM PST

I'm kinda struggling here.. Not sure where to go or how to get money/weapons. I went to see purah and lit the forge thing. Went back to Impa and she gave me the quest Captured Memories to go to those places in the pictures.. I looked at the pictures but have no idea how to find those locations.. And my other problem is that my weapons keep breaking so I'm down to an axe, some torches and branches. What should I do for weapons?

Only 1 timeline.

Posted: 10 Dec 2017 09:43 AM PST

Every single game is based in the same timeline, just, hundreds of thousands, or even millions of years apart, every single Zelda game starts with a legend about a hero long ago and a ganon, ganon get's locked away by the hero and he has just came back and the end of each game is with ganon being locked up by the hero. So what if literally every game is talking about the previous game (maybe in a different order) but this will also explain the changing world as well as the fact that nobody actually remembers the hero or ganon apart from a story, if the games were back to back or close enough for 2 games to share a Zelda, then why does nobody know him? Seriously your world is about to end then this significant figure, a hero rises up and saves the world, then you forget him in a couple years? Genuinely, all Zelda games are part of the same timeline.
