RuneScape Introducing the future updates wiki page!

Introducing the future updates wiki page!

Posted: 14 Dec 2017 04:15 PM PST

Shwmae!

We was recently approached by the legend that is /u/imsuity and they informed us of a private wiki article that they have been working on which includes a bunch of future updates. It's a very detailed wiki page with a complete overview of discussed/public knowledge updates that are planned to come into the game.

Here's a brief description of the wiki article from /u/imsuity

This is an attempt to document, and keep up-to-date, all news regarding future RS3 updates. OSRS updates are not within the scope of this document. Please note that any and all information is subject to change before release. - Suity via /u/imsuity

This may be a useful resource to new/returning players or players who just want to see what's in the pipeline to keep them excited.

I've gone and added the link to the page within /r/runescape/wiki and it is in the sidebar of /r/runescape in the "Information" section.

It's hard to describe the gratitude we have for community members like /u/imsuity, the time and effort that goes into these resources is impeccable!

If you have any questions about the page feel free to fire them in here, or if you spot anything that may require changing then make sure you let /u/imsuity know.

Hope you're all having a great December so far,

Proper Crimbo!

So the advent calendar rewards can be claimed late without you needing to buy the previous rewards with Runecoins as was true with previous countdown events. Although this is a small step in the right direction, it is very much appreciated. It's not a blatant grab at money. Changes like these make RuneScape far more pleasant to play. Hopefully you will continue in this direction while maintaining the overall quality of your game.

Shifting tombs isn't giving double reputation

Minigames weekend is supposed to have started, but shifting tombs is giving out the normal amount of menaphos rep. I don't know if other minigames also haven't had the minigame weekend effect activate, but this one definitely hasn't.

[BUG] Anyone else having this issue/bug?

My problem with the current predatory PvP system in the wilderness, and why as a PvPer I am a convert against placing essential/important items/monsters solely in the wilderness.

Posted: 14 Dec 2017 08:21 AM PST

Historically, the Wilderness has been a place of PvP. However, the specifics of that PvP has changed over time. No longer are the days where people have spontaneous epic fights, or do people go into the Wilderness in search of a fight.

These days, it's predator vs. prey. And that system has its faults.

Before this, the equation was, "How can I use my gear and skill to win a fight?" While it was not the best system, skill usually decided the winner. There were PvPers looking for other PvPers. As a PvPer myself, this was fun.

Now that a bunch of shit that affects PvP dramatically has been released since then, that the system doesn't work as well as it should, that the system overwhelmingly favors PKers, that the Wilderness is in the back end of development, there's a new equation:

"How can I game the fights from the start to make it impossible for the other person to get out alive, and how can I do it in the most cancerous way possible?"

Make no mistake- it is still possible to kill PKers- I nearly killed one who was using a Seismic and Ganodermic with my alt which was using a Hellfire bow when I was doing Lava Strykewyrms very recently, and would have continued fighting if I hadn't been chased 3 times in the past 10 minutes.

The problem was though, that for the longest time, I told myself that if I can achieve this kind of success, others should be able to as well, and that it was justified putting this content solely in the wilderness.

I am here to tell you that that point is completely bullshit. It is difficult nowadays to have a reasonable fight in the wilderness even without considering what gear people are using. New gear and abilities have continued to progress in the game without the effects they will have in PvP in mind. Glitches exist that make PvP a living nightmare. Most people cannot PvP to save their lives. And PvP is so much focused on fucking over the other person nowadays that most PKing fcs have devolved into having cancerous behaviors in and beyond Runescape.

The fact that I can defeat the average nox using fc pker with a T70 blisterwood weapon because I know the system better than they do is irrelevant. The fact of the matter is is that the vast majority of people don't care for PvP, don't know how to PvP, and/or don't want to be subject to it. In addition, with all of the multi combat zones, the situations involving the Hellfire bow, and the increasingly volatile nature of the PvP system, PKers simply won't fight unless their opponent in their mind is completely out gunned and outmanned. This has basically killed off the average PvPer because there are literally no fights to be had that don't involve three PKers trying to bomb them. Ambushes have to be staged in advance to catch these groups, and for some, that's too much.

Take this from the view of an Ironman/Ironwoman: if you want to have aggression potions, if you want to have Statius' Warhammer, if you want a Strykebow for high level PvMing, you have to get it from the wilderness yourself. There is no convenient option of making money and buying these items on the G.E, and letting someone do the bloody work. You have to do it yourself. And if haven't done it already, it is quite the pain in the ass. Perhaps even more irritating is the fact that you have to spend countless hours and days in the wilderness being subject to all of the shit above just to get these items.

Now let's say we added emblems to the Wilderness and removed BH. Now, if Ironwomen/Ironmen want to have an item that lets them have 3 different kind of runes in one slot or their ammo slot, have an item that upgrades their Statius' Warhammer, in addition to the above, now they have to spend even more time in the wilderness. So much for not forcing the Wilderness on people.

Also, it can be quite shitty to get a Lava Strykewyrms task when you have no slayer points to cancel it. These are my favorite Strykewyrm, but with all of the cancer that goes on over there, it is very difficult to muster the willpower to do such an assignment.

Something needs to change. I propose that key content that is within the wilderness must be obtainable outside of it, but in a less accomplishing form. Here are some of the minor suggestions that could be implemented:

  • Lava Strykewyrm spot around Tzhaar/Karamja/Crandor. Only available on a slayer task, and reduced drop rates on items. No WildyWyrms.

  • Allow those who have captured a Lava Strykewyrm soul to kill it in their dungeon on slayer tasks. This causes people to have to earn the right to kill them outside of the Wilderness.

I have serious concerns over continuing the perpetual cycle, but hopefully we can work something out. However, I will no longer support placing key content in the Wilderness to be solely accessible there.

TL;DR: Placing content in the Wilderness to create prey for PKers is a terrible strategy and causes problems for regular players and Ironmen, as well as being unhealthy in general to the state of PvP in the Wilderness. It is this reason that content within the Wilderness must be in some shape or form accessible outside of it.

Regarding comments on lure/scam posts

Downvoting or saying "every one knows this trick lol" on posts about scams is really fucking dumb.

They wouldn't still be trying these scams if everyone knew about them.
