Ambidextrous Lungs

Posted: 03 Dec 2017 10:59 PM PST

I notice that you can choose which lung to replace when performing transplants, but I also noticed that the organ I had purchased simply says "Lung." Now, I'm no medical expert by any means, but last time I looked at lung diagrams, there were both left and right versions.

What's with all the meteorites?

Posted: 03 Dec 2017 02:28 PM PST

I mean, seriously. They hit every few days in my colony. Does this happen to everyone else? They knocked a hole in my perimeter wall during a manhunter pack, and I'm getting worried that eventually one will hit my colonists. Is this going to become the new Eclipse?

EDIT: Here's an idea. What if they took longer to fall but you saw the shadow so you could move colonists but not buildings?

The first "Thats Rimworld" story I want to share.

Posted: 03 Dec 2017 07:48 AM PST

I recently got a crashland start to rocket launch for the first time, so I wanted to try something harder. So I start a lost tribe start in a mountains area. In a cave near my start there are some mega bugs, so I avoid that area with my colonists and try and build away from it. I am slowly building up till the 3rd day, when I get a notice we have a visitor with items to trade. So I go search the map looking for him, and I see him on the other side of the hive, with only the cave to get to my settlement. So right as I am thinking what will happen it does. He walks through the cave, aggroing the bugs and he dies. I thought it would be the end there, nope they all rush my colony and dead. Well, time to start over.

Does anyone else do random colonists/scenarios?

Posted: 03 Dec 2017 05:04 PM PST

After "beating" the game a few times by minmaxing I like to go random scenario, random colonists and random landing site. No rerolls allowed.

Some of the scenarios are just so ridiculous, and sometimes I die quickly but usually I can make it work. Even if it looks hopeless I give it a try.

The only thing I will reroll is the landing site if I get tribal because biomes without a growing season like tundra and icesheet are impossible

I'm finding the game a lot more fun when you don't weed out all the colonists with bad/annoying traits. Or when you start with 65 flatscreen tvs but hardly any food. I've also realized the colonist stats really aren't as important as I thought.

I accidentally killed my best shooter

It was a common occurrence at Hinderance Bluff for Kena Réveil to just sometimes lose her mind. Just last Aprimay, Kena lost two fingers when Lynn Corbray tried to stop her from burning down the entire colony. Kena forgave Lynn, of course, but Sarai Tang could not.

Even before they'd crahslanded on this rim world, Kena was prone to snapping for little temporary discomforts, and it was usually up to Tang to stop her. They were friends, and to Tang, they were companions. Tang understood Kena like no one else in the colony and could usually bring her down from her episodes. Kena kept Tang grounded when her pessimistic nature led to bouts of depression. They were codependent. Tang was happy when Kena announced her engagement to Robert Wonders but also felt that she might lose a little of her dear friend while she was caught in the throes of newfound passion.

It was raining. Tang got word that Kena had flown off the deep end, again. This time was no different from the others. Kena proclaimed that she would "kill every animal inside these gates if I didn't get a fucking table to eat on!" Lynn, who'd grown attached to the furry helpers of Hinderance Bluff, found Tang in the common area of the barracks. He was frantic-- it seemed that the newly tamed muffalo was in her sights.

Thankful that Lynn went to her first instead of slicing off another part of Kena, Tang went out to the courtyard to see the muffalo was already dead.

"Kena," she said, in an especially calm tone, "Why'd you hurt our muffalo?"

Kena did not reply. There was a rabid look in her eyes, as if the Kena Réveil Tang grew to love was replaced with a manhunting warg.

Kena charged, and there was no time to react. One shot was all it took. Tang was never a good shot like her best friend, but somehow the bullet found its way to her brain, and she was gone.

Flora Regrowth...?

Posted: 03 Dec 2017 05:49 PM PST

Ive read in many places that after a winter it will take some time for flora to regrow back to the center of the map... however the regrowth rate appears to be alarmingly slow on my modded playthrough. Ive seen the edges go through a few fires and regrow already, with little to no growth toward the actual center of the map. Is this a result of a mod or is this just the way the game is? Its been some time since Ive played on a temperate (or colder) map. Its not game breaking persay.. but its also a bit frustrating/unappealing. Any insight / suggestions are apppreciated!

Pawns and eyesight

Posted: 03 Dec 2017 12:53 PM PST

I know this is an old discussion, but seeing we've not circlejerked about it in a while: is the accuracy of pawns ever going to be addressed?

I mean I understand you won't hit very often with a shortbow at maximum range, but seeing my "legendary master" 50 years old general who happened to be a child soldier as well, enhanced with bio implants at maximum health use a good sniper to still miss 70% of the shots shooting at a centipide the size of a 2 story house makes me a bit sad.

Frankly it adds little as well: you're just waiting longer for someone to finally hit anything.

Whats your weirdest Trade Request

Posted: 04 Dec 2017 01:21 AM PST

A17 gave us the trade request quest and so far I've had human meat trade for a lot of silver and then another for a bunch of muffalo meat for a legendary spear. What's your weirdest one so far

Anybody else play Lawful Good?

Posted: 04 Dec 2017 01:18 AM PST

Seems like everyone here plays Chaotic Neutral/Chaotic Evil. The game definitely encourages it. Lately tho I've been drifting the opposite direction

  1. Never recruit hostile pawns. They are executed on the spot, left to bleed out, or occasionally captured long enough to pull valuable bionic parts or a much needed organ.

  2. Always rescue escape pods. If they don't join willingly, they are captured and recruited. It's only fair, they owe us their lives.

  3. Always accept refugees. Anyone seeking self shelter from the savages of this world will find it here.

  4. Make an honest attempt to rescue pawns when you get a world event. This isn't really possible until we have drop pods, but once we do, no better feeling than dropping into an enemy outpost on a rescue mission with 8 fully power armored pawns, Ride of the Valkyries playing in my head.

  5. Never butcher humans. Feeding to animals is fine tho.
