Legendary Spells

Posted: 01 Dec 2017 06:28 AM PST

So I played Marin and he gave me a Hallazeal Portal...

Jokes aside, if the effect was like an 'Aura' effect for that mana cost, would it be viable?

Today marks the 1 year anniversary of Gadgetzan!

Posted: 01 Dec 2017 01:25 AM PST

It meant the start of the jades we have come to know and love, the Pirate Package (who's in charge now?), Dragon Priest (Secret Agent), and the bigger appeal of Murlocs (Finja). It meant the end of Hunter and Paladin, who could not compare and it laid the ground-work for Razakus Priest.

Happy one year Gadgetzan, can't wait to see you rotate.

Kobolds & Catacombs Final Reveal Stream Dec. 4th with Ben Brode and Day9

Posted: 30 Nov 2017 01:13 PM PST

The Druid legendary is an earth elemental, the Warrior legendary is a kobold geomancer. Overall, only 2/9 class legendary minions are cannon Warcraft characters.

Posted: 30 Nov 2017 10:05 PM PST

I really don't like this. Sadly, deviating from Warcraft lore has been a trend since TGT. When I spoke with Ben Brode about this through twitter, he said that it was about expanding the IP (intellectual property). While, this is a very good reason and worked very well with memorable characters like the League of Explorers, Patches and Annoy-a-tron; many of us really got attached to Hearthstone because it is tied and anchored in the world of Warcraft.

I remember one cool post here in this sub back in the day, when one guy went and showed us how each Hearthstone legendary appeared inside WoW. I also love the Lore of the Cards episodes on youtube. I may from the minority, but I really enjoy cards that are tied to the lore. For example, I played a ton of WotOG and KoFT because they were expansions that had a lot of lore connections, while I almost didn't touch MSoG and JtU because they have almost nothing to do with Warcraft.

Playing a card game is not only about card mechanics, a big part of the fun comes from the fantasy associated with each class. When I play Warrior I like to fantasize about being a big hulk that smashes faces or a strong military leader, so I really loved Grom and Varian cards. A random kobold geomancer that summons random minions is soooo far away from the Warrior fantasy that it is laughable. Cards tied to real characters, monsters or places from Warcraft have depth and anchor you to the fantasy; while cards that have random characters with no connection to the lore are just cards: a random name and picture that mean nothing.

Wouldn't it have been much more awesome if the Paladin legendary, for example, was Lor'themar Theron and kept the same effect that we had in the new card?

I hope you get my point, I am not at all against introduction of new characters to WoW and increasing the IP but I feel much more excited by and attached to "real" characters with lore and background, especially if they fit well with the class fantasy.

TL;DR: Grommash Hellscream and Varian Wrynn are much cooler and much more fitting to the Warrior fantasy than Geosculptor Yip!!

Edit: If I get one more cannon vs. canon joke, I swear to God ... .

Legendary: Lord Jaraxxus

34 Common + 1 Golden Common

12 Rare

02 Epic

01 Legendary (King Krush)

Tirion is still nowhere to be seen, sadly, I was hoping to get him. Also, the price is pretty standarized, unlike the KnC pre-order. Paid R$ 15 (brazilian reais), which is around $4,60 compared to the $5 US price.

Which sets were the best and worst for the game as a whole?

Posted: 01 Dec 2017 08:00 AM PST

Best

Worst

This is something I've heard a lot of different things about from all over the sub. Gadgetzan is incredibly polarizing as an expansion, some people say GvG ruined the game, some people say Naxx is the gold standard, what do you think?

You remember our venerable ladder

Posted: 30 Nov 2017 11:22 PM PST

You remember our venerable ladder, opulent and imperial, gazing proudly from its stoic perch above casual. I played all the time in that ancient rumor shadowed ladder, fattened by decadence and golden cards, and yet I began to tire of... conventional extravagance. Singular unsettling tales suggested the lader itself was a gateway to some fabulous and unnameable rank. With scalebanes and bonemares, I bent every effort towards the excavation and recovery of those long buried secrets, exhausting what remained of our account* gold on... swarthy bots and... sturdy tierlists. At last, in the salt soaked crags beneath the lowest foundations, we unearthed that damnable rank of antediluvian evil. Our every play unsettled the ancient earth, but we were in a realm of netdecking and RNG. In the end, I alone fled, laughing and wailing through those blackened arcades of saltiquity. Until consciousness failed me. You remember our venerable ladder, opulent and imperial. It is a festering abomination! I beg you, return home, claim your rankright and deliver our family from the ravenous clutching shadows of the rank 1 legend.*

I miss Nefarian.

Posted: 30 Nov 2017 03:03 PM PST

Not necessarily [[Nefarian]] as a card, but I really miss its particular brand of introduction.

The individual quotes for every class coupled with the shadow flying over the specific part of the board where you placed him... (Examples)

So much hype the first time I saw this. I want that feeling back.

EDIT: Thanks for taking this to the FP

TIL: Enemy Discover cards are not in order

Posted: 30 Nov 2017 03:34 PM PST

Tested 9 games with my brother, where he discovered cards and he told me "I'm hovering over 1st... now 2nd... now 3rd" and on my screen I wasn't seeing the "reversed" vision of that hover, it was completely random every time (different every time, no pattern).

I always thought you saw them in order (3-2-1). And therefore being able to predict enemy kazakus potions manacost or triple-class discovers. but no.

I am planning on buying 50 packs, Should I stick with original or should I buy the Kobolds & Catacombs set?

Posted: 01 Dec 2017 06:05 AM PST

A bit of Background: I very noobishly disenchanted every possible character so I could get a decent Elemental Mage Deck. Turns out that deck is terrible and now I have only that deck to play somewhat competitive with. If I am trying to start some new competitive decks, what do you guys recommend? Please let me know thanks!

Suggestion: Blizzard should sell a "goodbye bundle" at the end of each expansion

Posted: 30 Nov 2017 10:41 AM PST

I've read a lot of ideas on here regarding Blizzard giving bigger discounts or more free things, but they have all been unrealistic suggestions that would cost Blizzard money. I may have a suggestion which could make money for them, or at least not impact their revenue stream whilst pleasing some of their players.

When a new expansion launches, I suggest that Blizzard should offer a "goodbye bundle" containing card packs for the previous expansion, sold for cash but at a much discounted rate (similar in scale to their "welcome bundle", but maybe larger).

This is at the point where sales of packs for that expansion would be naturally trailing off. Any "whales" would already have spent as much as they're likely to in order for their collections to stay relevant in the meta. Pre-orders would be unaffected as those too are done by players who wish to stay up to date with the meta. A "goodbye bundle" would not be an alternative purchase.

However, many F2P players, or those who would buy pre-orders only, may be tempted to part with some additional real money in order to get a good deal on cards to round out their collection, or which might gain a new lease of life in the new meta.

I think this could be good for everyone. I'd be interested to see what the community thinks!
