HCS FFA Qualifiers for Worlds 2018 and the FFA playlist

With the recent news of the Microsoft Store FFA qualifiers for Worlds 2018, as well as the FFA brackets at the four Halo WC open LAN events this year, I feel like now is as good of a time as ever to implement the HCS FFA settings into the FFA playlist - At least until the Division Finals on March 18th. If the playlist reverts back to the default settings after March 18th, then thats fine. Regardless, I think it would be wise to give players a place to get some adequate practice in for these events, as the custom game browser is not a reliable method for doing this.

With the custom game browser route, there are problems:

  1. When there is a custom FFA lobby going on, it's usually full and hard to get a spot in the lobby
  2. When you finally find a spot, you have no idea what you're getting into, as often times there will be one or more players who are AFK (since there's no rank involved and you don't get kicked for being AFK like in MM), or they quit shortly after the game begins
  3. Often times there is a wide gap of skill in the lobby, resulting in a match that does not resemble a match that we will see at the qualifiers

I feel like being able to prepare for these qualifiers in matchmaking would be infinitely more beneficial than trying to rely on custom games, as it would eliminate the 3 problems I listed. Also, one of the goals of these Microsoft tournaments are an attempt to introduce new players to Comp Halo, and providing players a chance to get used to these settings beforehand through matchmaking would make sense. It would also be beneficial for players to get quality practice in, with consistent games and a quick and easy avenue to play them.

The FFA playlist could be made a featured playlist and renamed to something related to the FFA qualifiers, which will also help advertise for the events, maybe build a little hype up around it.

I feel like 343's hesitation in trying the HCS settings for FFA is due to the unhealthy population of the HCS 4v4 playlist - While that's understandable, I don't think that's very fair. There are a lot more reasons for people to avoid the HCS 4v4 playlist vs an HCS FFA playlist. I could go into the reasons why, but this isn't really the point of my post.

Overall, I'm just asking for HCS FFA settings during this period of time for qualifiers. If we have to go back to default settings after the qualifiers are over, then that's fine. But at least doing it until the end of March makes sense to me. The FFA playlist is pretty much dead already, so why not give it a shot? It could allow us to see if it would revive it as some say it will, and could allow 343 to determine whether these settings should stay for good or if the playlist is better off being changed back to the default settings.

Does no one play halo online?

I'm a noob and may be doing something wrong, but I just got the Halo: Master Chief collection with all the games. My buddy (guest) and I are trying to find any multiplayer game, but just keep getting the "searching for players..." for a few seconds before kicking us out. Haven't seen one other person join the lobby aside from us. Are we doing something wrong?

Edit: this is for Xbox One S and I've had no problem playing Battlefront II online on the same system.

Halo MCC Split Screen Multiplayer Guest Account Not Working

Credit goes to this video for finding the fix The video is a bit long but the solution is around the 3:00 min mark.

I have seen some others recently have the same problem as I did these past few months.

It is some weird glitch that doesn't let you play with a guest account. When you try to sign in with a guest account, you get a message saying something to the effect of "Multiplayer is not allowed due to your Xbox Live settings." This would always happen from I believe release day of MCC, but about two months ago, anytime I'd try to play online splitscreen on MCC, I would get booted within 10 seconds of trying.

The solution was easier than I thought - Halo MCC splitscreen online will still work fine if you use another account instead of a guest account, as long as you have at least one Xbox Live Gold membership in the group. Simply use an alt account or create one with an alt email to add another account. I don't know if anyone else has had this issue, but just though I'd share the fix I found and worked.

I also have seen some people still playing with guest accounts, so I'm sure not all of you are affected, and that probably also means that some of you who are experiencing the same issue might not have the same solution as well.
