PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS Review Thread

Polygon 10/10

Battlegrounds is the refinement of a new language of play, but what may earn it a spot in the video game canon is that conceptual efficiency. It isn't accessible for every player, but it's understandable. Anybody can easily learn to read this game, to watch it, to spot the tension and excitement and drama. Critics and fans have speculated on how PUBG will operate as an esport, whether or not its pacing works for competitive play. But that ignores the obvious fact: Battlegrounds works as entertainment. Sport or not, it has found its audience of players and viewers alike.

Game Informer 9.5/10.0

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds brings the battle royale genre to a smashing mainstream success, packed with memorable moments and action-packed adventures. Solo or with friends, you're in for an intense ride that's different every single time.

Windows Central 4/5

If you want to be the last man (or woman) standing and wish to play a game closely resembling Battle Royale and The Hunger Games, you'll be hard pressed to find a better game than PUBG, for now. Things could change in the full 1.0 final release, which launches tomorrow, so I'll revisit this review and follow-up with our experiences post-launch, but I don't expect things to change drastically.

US Gamer 4/5

PUBG is such a pure and fun experience that it overcomes its many flaws. There are glitches, there are crashes, there is jank. The game will probably never be fully done. But parachuting down onto that island feels new and exciting every time. A number of simple ideas comes together to make a great game and establish a great genre.

Gamer.no 8/10

På sitt beste skaper PUBG adrenalinfylt action som ytterst få spill kan matche.

At its best, PUBG creates adrenaline filled action that few games can match. (translation)

Unfinished/Unscored Reviews

Destructiod

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds biggest achievement might be in providing a solidly-built platform to expand outward from, a foundation that will support whatever other crazy ideas Bluehole and Brendan Greene can come up with.

Eurogamer Recommended

In its 1.0 form, Battlegrounds is the year's best hangout game - the most reliably enjoyable social gaming experience that doesn't involve sharing a couch. It appears to have evaded the longevity issues that have dogged its multiplayer survival counterparts, and its success affords its developers the opportunity to invest in solutions to the doubts and weaknesses that remain. Expect studios of all sizes to vie for its position over the next few years. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is ground zero for battle royale games in the way that World of Warcraft was ground zero for MMOs or League of Legends was for MOBAs - not the first, but the one that made it.

Name: Super Mario Odyssey

Platform(s): Nintendo Switch

Genre: Platform-Adventure

Release date: October 27, 2017

Developer: Nintendo EPD

Publisher: Nintendo

Trailer/Review Scores/Discussion

Super Mario Odyssey is a 3D platform-adventure video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. An installment in the Super Mario series, the story follows Mario and Cappy, a spirit that possesses Mario's hat and allows him to take control of other characters and objects, as they set on a journey across various worlds to save Princess Peach from his nemesis Bowser, who plans to marry her. In contrast to the linear gameplay of prior entries, the game returns to the primarily open-ended, exploration-based gameplay previously featured in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine.

Jade Empire is on sale for a dollar on the iOS App Store // Jade Empire Discussion thread.

Posted: 21 Dec 2017 04:42 PM PST

It's a full length Bioware RPG thats arguably better than KotOR going for a dollar. That's nuts value.

Doubling this up as a game discussion thread to get around Automod. I really miss this Bioware. Dense, semi-linear storytelling with a focus on world building. And emphatically single player. No micro transactions. Inquisition grew on me after repeat playthroughs, but I still can't shake the feeling of being an MMO avatar gliding through these massive maps they've designed. Contrast that to Jade Empire – the graphics are a bit dated, but the environments are gorgeous and feel just a little lived-in, rather than dotted with NPCs in a map editor.

The side quests are brilliant. I won't give too much away because I'm also pitching the game to people in this thread, but there are zero fetch quests. You act in a play, you best John Cleese in a show of intellectual dominance, and you do your best to blow up the heavens.

This game was kind of forgotten as KotOR's little brother, but it stands up supremely well in its own right. If you've never played it, give it a go!
