Are Destiny YOUTUBERS exploiting a little D2 criticism and confirmation bias to spoon feed a false narrative through STRAW MAN arguments to increase their own traffic?

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 03:28 AM PST

Destiny Tracker already had to take their population tracker down because YouTubers were using it as "proof that D2 is a failure." Despite D1 also having similar up and down trends after launch and after the release of new DLC content.

Additionally, there is this constant comparison of Year 3 D1 to Year 1 D2. Another complaint is that D2 doesn't have enough of the unsubstantial grind to add "replay value."

So, I'd like to hear about some HONEST comparisons instead of STRAW MAN arguments about what is wrong with D2.

Now, some of us paid $60-$100 for D2 depending on what edition you bought and when you bought it. But generally, Destiny is a $30 game with extra bonuses for buying early and the expansion packs are generally around $20.

So, let's look at the true value of Destiny 2 (without expansion) for just $30, the price of a couple movie tickets. The game came with multiple strike maps in a Strike Playlist and Weekly Nightfall, Trials of the Nine competitive PVP, Crucible playlists, About 30 unique sets of Legendary armor, oodles of exotics, two social spaces (one of them quite large), and 4 different planet destinations that include patrols, public events, their own unique set of adventures for additional side story as well as unique side quests often rewarding legendary and exotic weapons. On top of that, a pretty awesome campaign featuring DIVERSE talent from Nathan Fillion, Lance Reddick, Lennie James, Sumalee Montano, Gina Torres, Joy Osmanski, Nolan North, and others.

This is DOZENS and DOZENS of hours of gameplay, storyline and voice talent from some of the coolest voice actors in the business. For $30. NONE of what I just describe includes the addition of the ONE armor set for each class locked behind Tess's PAYWALL.

Yes, some of you paid a little more. But with entertainment in the real world costing around $10 per hour, you can honestly say you didn't have at least 10 hours of fun? Seriously?

Let's look at Curse of Osiris. Price? $20. What do you get? A whole new campaign featuring the voice talent of beloved Morena Baccarin, a new planet (albeit small) but it feels artificially bigger because we can't summon our sparrow), a new public event, a new small social space in the Lighthouse, new adventure storyline that bring nearly a dozen new Vex-themed weapons including the Saint 14 storyline and a very nice shotgun. Oh, and a couple new strikes and crucible maps. On top of all that, a new Raid Lair that looks and feels pretty damn good with new armor sets that will take weeks to collect for all three classes. On top of that, a few new unique sets of legendary armor coupled with a dozen sets of ornaments to give give your Season 1 stuff a new look. This essentially gives you a new set of armor without needing more vault space! Oh, and to top it off. Let's throw in Masterworks weapons that make orbs for your fireteam AND YOU when you get multikills. For the first time ever, we can make our own damn orbs! And D2 supers are WAY more powerful than D1 supers. Bladedancer vs Arcstrider anyone?

Also, Mercury isn't really that small. Just the PLAYABLE part is pretty small. When you consider the other stuff used in the simulations for the adventures, strikes, campaign, etc.Mercury is kind of a big addition. The infinite forest needs a little more work but it leaves room to be built on and it is still a whole new area of content.

And NONE of that includes the two sets of armor and a few exotic ghosts, ships and sparrows, behind Tess's PAYWALL.

But back to my argument. I am PRETTY SURE most of you got at least 10 hours of fun out of Curse of Osiris and that's assuming you don't do raids. And you got this for the cost of a 90 minute movie ticket and a bucket of popcorn.

CONSUMABLE SHADERS: Yeah, I have gripe about this one, too. And I feel like we all can fuss a little bit about this. They need to bring Eva back, and armor should be able to hold more than one shader. Additionally, ships should be able to hold more than one transmat effect. Adding a new shader or transmat shouldn't just consume the old one. That sucks. It just sucks. But that doesn't mean I didn't get at least $30 of entertainment value from D2 launch and $20 of value form Curse of Osiris.

Anything to like about the new shader system? Sure! We can shade weapons and we can shade individual pieces of armor for some REAL customization into a look. Let's admit that THAT part is pretty cool!

Yet you kids want to complain because Bungie but a few nice pieces of armor behind a paywall that isn't even exclusive to buying silver. You COULD actually grind for Bright Engrams the same way some people just elect to buy them.

Some people are actually saying they want unsubstantial grindy things. They are complaining that they don't have to grind for weapon rolls, or do a raid a million times for a certain weapon, shader, or ship drop. That's is NOT SUBSTANCE! Forcing players to grind against RNG is a TERRIBLE way to make a game. That's how FOREVER 29 happened! They added ADVENTURES and SIDE QUESTS instead of having us go hunt down ghosts for content! Why are people complaining about that? If you want something to grind for, GRIND BRIGHT ENGRAMS!

How can you people HONESTLY feel robbed? Do you not remember what D1 dropped with? Let's look at D1 and then The Dark Below.

Vanilla D1 didn't have competitive PVP nor Trials. It didn't have adventures, side quests, and the ghost was voiced by someone who thought he was "too busy" to invest some voice over work into the future of Destiny. So, we wound up with a ghost that didn't talk anymore. We only had the one small social space. D1 created an artificial gameplay grind with dead ghosts and a terrible raid grind with a low drop rate that made us Forever 29. The Dark Below was mostly recycled earth and moon content. No additional destination. It wasn't until Taken King that we got a new "enemy species" and again with Wrath of the machine, we got SIVA enhanced Fallen. Finally, they were starting to give us something new.

*But you know what came right before those things? Tess. Microtransactions. * And more income from Destiny meant a bigger budget and more resources from Activision. And comparing how much we got at D1 and Dark Below launches with D2 launch and Curse of Osiris, you can SEE the bigger budget in the voice talent and the amount of ACTUAL SUBSTANTIAL content, rather than a bunch of dead ghosts and low raid drop rates.

Let's look at Tess: For D2 launch: An exclusive armor set, some emotes, shaders, sparrows and ships. For Curse of Osiris: Two exclusive armor sets (one of them the Dawning), some emotes, shaders, ghosts (including exotic ones), ships, sparrows, blah blah.

None of it adds anything to the story. Yes, some of it looks pretty good. Yes, you could grind out sets by filling your XP bar and using the bright dust of smashed ghosts and sparrows you don't want to buy it from her directly. And the MTX model has increased Destiny's budget in such a way that we are getting some GREAT voice talent, more side quests and missions, and MORE unique maps and areas.

In conclusion, Datto and the like really need to go **** themselves. Lately, there is nothing honest about what they are doing. And all the rest of you are doing is lining their pockets with your clicks just to listen to a popular Youtuber that "agrees" with you and therefore you must be right (Confirmation bias).

Are Youtubers lying to you to make money off of you? Yes. "I'm quitting." Do they quit? Nope. They just keep whining and keep on making a new video of how they are "Done with Destiny." Datto has nearly 300 hours of Destiny 2 playtime and he's complaining he didn't get his money's worth. Brin Zalazar played over 50 hours. 156 hours by Paperlink. 204 hours by RifleGaming. **Are they feeding you a false narrative that Destiny is dying and people are leaving in droves? Yep. Destiny 2 is experiencing normal fluctuation trends that D1 experienced. Destiny tracker had to take down their graph just because they were sick of it being used in this way. Is Bungie robbing you? For $30 you get a ton of content, and for $20 you get a lot more content that has nothing to do with Tess. If you got more than 40 hours of gameplay out of D2, they are definitely not robbing you, regardless of what edition of the game you bought.

Curse of Osiris: Worst D2 DLC

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 08:05 AM PST

How great would it be if CoO is the worst D2 DLC? I'm thoroughly enjoying it far more than The Dark Below or even Prison of Elders for that matter. I think CoO really shows the amount of quality and work they are putting into even these small installments of the game.

Hate all you want but CoO is a great $20 add-on for D2. It did way more than what other previous $20 DLCs did and if this is considered the worst DLC of D2 I think we'll be in for quite the treat going forward with D2 content.

When I get bored of a game...

... I stop playing it. Seriously, if you are bored of Destiny 2, just don't play it. It's so simple. No need to come on the reddit and tell everyone how bored you are, but still play for some reason. There are plenty of other games out there.

REMINDER: DESTINY 2 HAS A FREE TRIAL

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 06:00 AM PST

You can visit several new areas, play through some campaign as well as adventures, play crucible, visit the Farm social space, join a clan, and you can see what Tess is all about.

You can literally get more than $30 of fun before you spend the $30 to buy it.

So don't buy it and then whine and complain and cry about content, Tess, MTX, prestige, bugs, and mistakes.

Act like a ****ing adult who is capable of doing your own research and thinking for yourself instead of flooding youtube videos with why you are quitting like the pathetic, attention-seeking drama queen you really are.

My YT RECOMMENDED is nonsense because of you people... https://imgur.com/a/a3et4

Dawnblade change suggestions

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 09:33 AM PST

Dawnblade is a fun class to play, but it does have some issues that make it one of the more difficult classes to use for reasons that I believe should be adjusted.

The Daybreak super is difficult to use because the fiery outline, sword swing animation, and field of vision all hinder the player ability to see the environment or track enemies. In particular the swing animation greatly interferes with seeing where your target is moving. This problem is multiplied if you are attempting to fight from close-mid range using Daybreak. In my gameplay with other roaming supers, FoV is not an issue. One possible fix could be increasing the field of vision to counteract the player character model from getting in the way.

The Attunement of Sky, I believe is in a good place overall. I like the short-range weapons (sidearms, SMGs, and handcannons) being the only viable aerial weapons because really at distance you would lose to a strafing enemy most times anyway. There are two issues I believe need adjustment. One is the Icarus Dash should perform similarly to the Hunter Dodge in that it momentarily breaks tracking (I play ps4 and PC, so I know there are differences). I believe it would be reasonable because while the cooldown is only 10 seconds, you are much more vulnerable as an aerial combatant being unable to move to cover in any meaningful amount of time. This would encourage more aerial play.

The other issue with Attunement of Sky is the Daybreak slashes themselves. Frankly, as an aerial super that touts being able to fly and attack, then the sword slashes need to be faster or need to have greater AoE damage. Attunement of Flame more or less fixes it with tracking, but that would be too much in conjunction with the other Attunement of Sky perks. Slash speed or AoE should be buffed to make this a viable aerial super. I realize one might suggest infinite dashing to enemies, but the issue with that is it leaves the player exposed to attack while traversing, costs super energy, typically moves into range of stomp attacks or enemy PvP supers, and at closer ranges the field of vision issue becomes significantly worse. Another issue for the Daybreak super is the attack type. Given the way other roaming supers like Fist of Havok, Sentinel, Hammer of Sol, Arc Strider all have a normal and heavy attacks (with large AoE), then I think it would be appropriate to give Dawnblade a normal sword strike for close encounters that uses slightly less super energy.

The Attunement of Flame is an overall very lackluster skill tree. I find it subpar in both PvE and PvP because it offers nothing for neutral game that is beneficial, and the super extension by killing enemies is generally not viable against end game level enemies or PvP opponents. The Phoenix Dive requirement to achieve max glide height to receive a max of approximately 35% regen with a 1.5 second ground animation delay makes this ability largely ineffective against high level enemies, and in PvP the risk of death is extremely high either in the glide up or the 1.5 second immobility allowing for a push or grenade finish. Ideas to make Phoenix Dive more viable could be to make it scale with recovery so that the dive height no longer affects the amount of health regen (maybe just a minimum dive height to activate), or have it always max heal, or allow an overshield effect if you are already at high health, or cause some level of AoE damage to discourage nearby enemies from pushing (could be explosive or DoT, with the Daybreak version applying both).

Now then, Dawnblade exotics. Currently there are three Dawnblade specific exotics - Starfire Protocol, Sunbracers, and the Wings of Sacred Dawn - none of which are worth using relative to other non-specific exotics. Starfire Protocol is largely useless since fusion grenades aren't as strong as in D1, and the rift energy gains aren't anything special - it doesn't even make sense to focus on rift abilities if you're using an aerial subclass. I honestly don't have any thoughts on this chest piece right now, maybe funnel that energy back into your grenades or super. The Sunbracers should grant a second grenade, but it's debatable if it should be for any grenade or only for solar grenades. As it is, you basically get Entropic Pull/mini-Overcharge wearing these bracers which requires a melee attack, and again is not in line with being an aerial subclass. Wings of Sacred Dawn at least focuses on the aerial side of the class, but it fails for two reasons: you're stationary in the air which means death against high level enemies and PvP, and the airborne accuracy penalty is merely reduced yet not enough to be reliable. Wings of Sacred Dawn should completely remove the airborne accuracy penalty (especially since you're immobile), and increase the aerial holding time for critical hits to 10 seconds instead of 6s. Other exotic ideas could be something that is a throwback like granting an overshield with ability kills, or a chest piece that adds/trades the dodge/phoenix dive to the opposite skill tree (call the perk something like Ultra Violet Light).

Alright, that's all I've got for now. I don't usually see too many people playing Dawnblade, and I understand why. Please tell me your thoughts, and maybe Bungie will make changes that will result in an even more varied, enjoyable experience.
