The reason is I've known this was going to take 3-5 years minimum since before they even announced their intention to write a new engine. I don't have much time to play games anymore so I'm not hugely disappointed that this was the path they took when they could have saved themselves effort and the audience frustration by just polishing dayz 1 as much as possible in the public domain while working on dayz 2 internally... they chose to do what they thought was "the right thing" and I'm sure at this point realize that was an enormous mistake... but people should ease up on the accusations of abandoned efforts or endless development... it's not... it's normal... 3-5 years from Feb 2014... so beta out even mid next year is right on time...
