My stat heavy top 20 players list (reworked) Posted: 23 Dec 2017 02:35 PM PST
All the statistics are filtered by players with a minimum of 50 maps played in big events this year. They only take account games in HLTV filter big events, in wich they've just added IEM Sydney. There were 17 big tournaments being held this year. HLTV link Game impact has big value (clutches, opening kills, damage) and consistency measured by Rating. MVP titles have extra value aswell. Online play does not affect this list at all, since I hold zero competitive value for it.
Changes:
Rant
The idea behind so selective stat picking is that I want to compare players playing in the most competitive enviroment possible, against other top players and teams, where the stakes are as high as they possibly can. Everything else going on in competitive CS is just preparation for these events, for me atleast. You could do amazing online and in qualifiers, it isn't that intresting to me. These stats show who comes to play when the real games begin. This list isn't a my take on what I think the HLTV top 20 list will look like or who I think are the most skilled players, it's more of a representation of how I would translate these stats in to relative skill. There is a large amount of intuitive things to consider, like what type of a role the player plays and what are the skill requirements to excel in it. I don't claim to know all the nuances the top teams have in their teams structure, I can still divide players in general roles (like entries / late round players[clutchers] / supportive players) mostly being on the right track. Sure in the heat of the moment things rarely are this clear cut and teams divide their resources differently. Getting opening frags might be the most mechanically challenging task in professional games, but consistently closing out rounds is vital for every team wanting to win. So distinguishing the importance of these two roles for the teams success has never been clear to me. I'm willing to get educated though, if someone has come in to a conclusion about the subject. Right now I personally value opening kills slightly more compared to clutches. Just because I think every great entryfragger has a change to be impactful in a clutch scenario solely by aim if nothing else, but not all great clutchers can consistently go out and rip peoples heads off in the beginning of the round. Just my thoughts. I struggled should I keep the list as dry as possible and remove my own intuition, but I decided against it because all the stats are straight from the HLTV site for everyone to see already. No ranking can be perfect, because we all have our own value for different criteria. What I found the most important is to be objective to my own criteria and not to fall being a fanboy. I can't say its easy when your passionate about something, I love following and studying competitive CS and the storylines in the scene. I have watched every big tournament 2017 atleast from the semi-finals onwards, on vods at my on pace so I don't miss anything out. Just as a fan, not analyzing the games with this list in mind. I have watched all of these players play though. Thinking and making this list has been great fun, I would've hoped to go more in to detail of what I think of every player in the list. It takes working hours in research to find anything valuable to say and show for fellow CS fans, I don't have any more time to spend on this project and I mostly did it for personal intrest.
1. coldzera / Rating 1.24 / Maps 137 /
coldzera playing in the SK's current core is the hardest player to kill in CS:GO. Only one player came close to him being consistently excellent the whole year, coldzera is starting to carve himself in the Mount Rushmore of CS:GO.
2. NiKo / Rating 1.23 / Maps 132 /
Contending with s1mple to be the most individually impactful player on the server right now. A very strong candidate for the best rifler right now. Who knows what would've happened had NiKo played in Faze for 12 months instead of 10, but it's all speculation.
3. fer / Rating 1.20 / Maps 137 /
The SK system has given fer a change to make big plays to open rounds, he has delivered with monster performances.
4. rain / Rating 1.16 / Maps 137 /
Great Rating in events where Faze went deep. Versitale and cerebral player, you could place him in any situation throughout the round and expect him to find a way to be impactful for his team. One of the best aimers right now, 1st in headshots per round (0.44), 1st in total headshots (1572), 2nd in headshot% (59.0%). This is throughout the year, across 137 maps. Crazy to think that him having an absolutely beast tournament in ESL One New York 2017 with 1.61 Rating, NiKo still topped it with 1.70 Rating. My favorite superstar duo at the moment.
5. device / Rating 1.18 / Maps 104 /
Leading Astralis in opening kills per round and in Rating, one of the key components of the teams structure. Consistency prince after the king cold for the last couple of years. If he were to be in HLTV top 5 this year, he would be the second player with Snax to be in there 3 years in a row, also being the second person to be in the top 5 three times at any time, in CS:GO.
6. s1mple / Rating 1.20 / Maps 62 /
Great impact, not enough deep tournaments. Top fragger with the most kills per round. Top contender for the most all-around skilled player in the world.
7. kennyS / Rating 1.16 / Maps 76 /
Pulling G2 foward kicking and screaming, while the rest of the team tries to find consistency. Could've been higher had G2 lived up more to its rosters namevalue. You could argue placing him above s1mple for winning two big finals and being the MVP, but I found s1mple's consistent fragging power to be on a level it just edged out team placings.
8. FalleN / Rating 1.13 / Maps 137 /
The only IGL making it in the list, you could say atleast Adren and Snax have been IGL's aswell, but not the whole year. The captain of the most successful team of the year, not affecting his placing though.
9. GuardiaN / Rating 1.14 / Maps 111 /
The 7 first big events this year with Na'Vi didn't go as smoothly as one would've hoped with only 2 top four finishes, but after him and olof joining Faze the team has played in 8 big events, with 5 finals and one top four. Not a bold statement to say Faze has the most fragging power of any team at the moment, when GuardiaN has started to find some of his old form in this lineup. With Kenny, FalleN, device and s1mple being extremely good with the green gun, its impossible to unquestionably place him above any of these players as the best AWP. 1st in most AWP kills per round with Kenny 2nd, might be explained by G2's force-buy mentality though.
10. dupreeh / Rating 1.10 / Maps 111 /
Worst Ratings are 1.03 at EPICENTER 2017 and 1.04 at EPL S6, no real drop-off the whole year. On top of consistency he has a couple of superstar tournaments with 1.20 and 1.30 Rating and a top 4 at those tournaments, so massive impact is still there.
11. EliGE / Rating 1.15 / Maps 62 /
Statistically impressive year. Elige and Twistzz might be the next superstar duo of NA, proving their talents internationally. Not enough deep tournaments.
12. k0nfig / Rating 1.10 / Maps 90 /
Good Rating in North's deep finishes, MVP impact when he's on point. Up and down though, can drop a 1.30 Rating tournament or even a 0.90.
13. Kjaerbye / Rating 1.09 / Maps 123 /
No standout stats to showcase, a solid year with a couple of really great highs and a couple of low points.
14. Xyp9x / Rating 1.08 / Maps 123 /
Xyp9x is my vote for the clutcher of the year.
15. HObbit / Rating 1.12 / Maps 51 /
Not enough deep tournaments. Has played in 7 big tournaments, with the worst Rating of 1.02 and all other tournaments with 1.10=< Rating.
16. AdreN / Rating 1.07 / Maps 51 /
Contender for a top 5 player for the first half of the year. Since Zeus left after the Krakow Major, Adren struggled in all 3 big tournaments Gambit attended for the latter part of the year. He had below 1.00 Rating in all of them, so invisible for half of the year.
17. boltz / Rating 1.09 / Maps 92 /
11 big tournaments attended, only one below 1.0 Rating. He has played 4 big tournaments in the SK roster so far, with 3 wins and one top 4. Rating in the tournaments were 1.13 / 1.01 / 1.15 / 1.20.
18. felps / Rating 1.09 / Maps 87 /
Played in 4 finals (Rating 1.16 / 1.23 / 1.03 / 1.11) and won 3, an edge over the players below him.
19. f0rest / rating 1.09 / Maps 61 /
The slight edge for f0rest was that he has actually won an big event this year and played well in it (1.20 Rating).
20. Snax / Rating 1.06 / Maps 69 /
Major Rating and the MVP award are the saving graces, a very poor year otherwise. 3 good tournaments and 7 really bad ones, missing 70% of the year.
Who just didn't make it:
Twistzz / Rating 1.10 / Maps 59
olofmeister / Rating 1.07 / Maps 115 /
flamie / Rating 1.12 / Maps 62 /
autimatic / Rating 1.07 / Maps 69 /
Stewie2K / Rating 1.04 / Maps 69
Magisk / Rating 1.07 / Maps 76 /
Draken / Rating 1.12 / Maps 49 /
Shox / Rating 1.05 / Maps 75
Stats for fun:
Headshots per round: 1st rain (0.44) / 2nd flamie (0.43) / 3rd Twistzz/NiKo (0.42) / 5th f0rest (0.41).
Headshot %: 1st flamie (59.5%) / 2nd rain (59.0%) / 3rd Twistzz (57.6%) / 4th f0rest (55.3%) / 5th bodyy (55.0%).
Support rounds: 1st TACO (21.2%) / 2nd Xyp9x (20,9%) / 3rd seized (20,1%) / 4th karrigan/skadoodle (19.8%).
nitr0 (Rating 0.92), seized (Rating 0.93), MSL (Rating 0.93), TaZ (Rating 0.94) and TACO (Rating 0.95) are the worst performing players with this criteria. [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 03:19 AM PST Hey as a long time csgo player and a decent playerim nuts, I wanted to help ya'll knuckleheads improve so I thought I'd share some csgo youtube channels that helped me improve and visualize the game. First off is Concussed: Concussed is a Main Igl who's videos are more for the advanced player. He discusses in depth about certain situations and general team management. If you are looking to add something to your ESEA League team this is the guy. Next, I recommend elmapuddy: Elmapuddy is more noob friendly, he breaks down pro's POVs and discusses why and what happened. He also shows techniques on what the pro's are doing to set themselves up, as well as cool new things. Recommended Video: Video Lastly is someone I recently learned about, mauisnake: Mauisnake is similar to concussed but he's less about the team's general structure and more about learning from others mistakes, he breaks down a lot of what happens and what went wrong. He's also super chill to listen to and hella genuine. I recommend this video I also recommend his demo reviews he does for the other ranks, just keep in mind pugs ≠ league [link] [comments]
