Melee on a variety of drugs

Posted: 27 Nov 2017 06:23 PM PST

I was inspired by this post about chess and drugs to try this out. I figured, hey I do drugs and play melee, why not try both at the same time?

Sober Baseline

I'm a pretty average sheik, hitting all my tech but still occasionally fucking up reverseupB. I beat my roommate about 6/10 games.

Tipsy (alcohol)

I'm about the same skill level, except I'm more willing to go LOW edgeguarding. And go for harder reads.

Really Drunk (alcohol) I got destroyed by roommate, losing 8/10 games. I SD more than usual and get punished super hard. Miss a lot of tech I always get.. can't shino stall, etc.

Weed

Basically just had a lot more fun than usual and laughed super hard at roommate spamming Luigi's wd. I played pretty much the same level, but I lost count of the games. I remember feeling myself despite prolly being just as mediocre as usual.

Addy

I completely popped off on adderall. I beat my friend 10/10 games more handily than usual. Not only was my tech better than usual but I was really keen on reading rolls. I got like 4 reaction tech chases which I can NEVER get. felt like westballz but sheik. edit: i think i FELT a lot better about how i was playing and was having more fun. it's not like it made me a better player. i dont recommend taking addy

LSD

Chess guy did really cool stuff on acid, being really creative. I couldn't play at all or stay focused. Honestly gave up on trying to play melee once it kicked in, I didn't seem important anymore.

DXM and Salvia

Don't want to try these, my chess man is crazy as hell..

Joey "MrWiz" Cuéllar: Only 7 games at Evo 2018

https://twitter.com/MrWiz/status/935267417877446656

This could seriously result in only one Smash game at Evo, given support from other developers for their titles.

TwitLonger from Tweek on how his smash career has evolved, difficulties he has faced, and just his mentality in general. Really good read.

TIL that the last Mew2king/PPMD set was EVO 2014, over 3 years ago.

Posted: 27 Nov 2017 01:14 PM PST

Or more like "Today I was reminded"

I was reminded by looking at this comment in the comment section of the PPMD vs. SFAT at Genesis 3 youtube video. For those who don't remember, SFAT upset Mew2king in Winners Top 32, meaning we missed out on the M2K/PP match up for the first time in a year and a half (at the time). Now we are closing in on 2018, and have yet to see one of the most legendary match ups in Melee history in nearly 3 1/2 years.

BIBLETHUMP of EPIC proportions

Here is the set for anyone who is curious.

Posted: 27 Nov 2017 04:40 PM PST

And I need some ideas for gifts for someone who is a huge smash fan. Smash is not my game and I'm not really sure where to find cool smash shit. Thanks in advance

Edit: after some suggestions and advice, I think I know what I'm getting him. However, on the off chance he frequents this sub, I don't want to post it. Just know it's gonna be awesome

I haven't heard any updates from him for a while and I was concerned if he was okay and making a recovery. And if so if he had attended any locals or anything as of late. Just wondering

PM Netplay V4 for SmashLadder released! Come find out what's new in this build

Posted: 27 Nov 2017 09:35 PM PST

The new Smash Ladder Dolphin build released tonight! (we snuck it out while you were sleeping)

FOLLOW THE GUIDE HERE TO SETUP NETPLAY

Since the last version of PM Netplay two years ago, Project M has seen a lot of growth. Even though we're still playing the final version of 3.6, quite a few things have been found in the Dolphin and Brawl modding scenes and the community has gone through some steady growth. So let's dive right in to see what's new because there's a lot!

1) New Dolphin Build

Dolphin eventually reached a 5.0 version and split off into two separate builds. A new branch called "Ishiiruka Dolphin" focused on optimizing network settings for strong connections. Ishiiruka cuts the amount of lag drastically and is further reduced by a specific code in the codeset.

Dolphin now supports using a save file over netplay. PM Netplay comes with a standard save that unlocks everything and sets all music sliders to 100%. This save can be used on netplay to save additional tags or replays but will always reset once the session ends. You also will not affect this save by playing locally as it exists in a different folder.

This version also comes with two different buffer options. The first option lets the host set a minimum buffer and the second lets either player adjust their own separate buffers.

At the time of this post, Ishiiruka-Dolphin FM 5.8.7 BETA is currently the build Melee uses as well, so both games will play on the same Dolphin version. To find out more about Faster Melee, visit their website: http://fastermelee.net/

There has been way too many Dolphin changes to talk about in this thread so I will link to the credits in their thread: https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-unofficial-ishiiruka-dolphin-custom-version

2) Legacy TE

David V. Kimball and the Legacy TE team worked hard to release version 1.11 of their build to great success. We've been given permission to use this build as the starting point for PM Netplay V4. With Legacy TE 1.11, every character has maxed out costumes and each stage has maxed out tournament-viable alternate slots. This offers a plethora of options and modes of play past the vanilla 3.6 standard. Even Quality of Life (QoL) changes like booting directly to the CSS and larger stage previews make the build a lot smoother and polished. The Legacy TE team does great work and you can find out more by visiting their website: http://www.smashbroslegacy.com/legacy-te.html

3) Music

The PM Netplay build has always strived for a strong sense of community when deciding on how to approach music. This time around we had the help from a user named DukeItOut to build our own Custom Tracklists so we didn't have to cut corners. With additional help from chasemcdizzle, we were able to re-write any tracklist in the game with any songs we want. This includes 255 possible song slots per stage from any Brawl track or custom track. The only limit we had was filesize, as these songs tend to take up the most size on an SD card. During development of this build, we would often run into filesize issues causing silent music so we had to keep track of how many songs we were using. It was not that big of a deal as we wanted to keep the build as small as possible and offer a large tracklist of songs to listen to. You can view the entire tracklist here: https://pastebin.com/Mm6NAqDg

Making the tracklist was not easy and I want to give thanks to all those who helped me create it from reddit and discord. Here's a link if you'd like to go through the Music Monday threads: https://www.reddit.com/r/SSBPM/search?q=music+mondays&sort=new&restrict_sr=on&t=all

4) So much more!

There are so many more things that have gone into this build that making a list like this just isn't feasible. I'm going to end things here and if you have any questions, please feel free to leave them in the comments below. I hope you all enjoy playing PM Netplay V4!

Here's a quick bullet list of some other neat things to mention quickly:

-Fixed Replays by Fracture. You can also hold A while watching a replay to fast forward and hold B to slow down.

-Modify your tag inside the Character Select Screen by Fracture and chasemcdizzle. If you press Y on your tag you can change anything about it from remapping buttons to turning off tap jump. If you press X on your tag you will toggle rumble on/off (on being blue). If you hold L while inputting your tag and press "OK", it will take you to the custom controls menu

-A beta version of AI's being able to randomly DI has been implemented. It's not perfect and will be improved in the future.

-19 songs rotating on the CSS

-Brand new menus

-Pyotr's Training Mode codes that give you access to advanced options in training mode

Special thanks to E2xD, David V Kimball, DukeItOut, Anther, WorseDoughnut, Yohan1044, PyotrLuzhin, chasemcdizzle, Fracture, Motobug, Star, Jetfantastic, Sandfall, Theytah, KingJigglypuff, codes, waffeln, ALM5252, and countless other playtesters and community members! Love you all and this build would not be possible without your help!

"Late to the game" characters and its affect on Smash 4's competitive scene

Posted: 27 Nov 2017 06:09 AM PST

I started a discussion in r/truegaming 8 months ago about characters who are added to a game after the initial release and how that affects competitive play.

I thought one of the commentors summed it up nicely:

I think fighting games kind of have a problem with that, they generally don't really do rekits after launch. So what ends up happening is devs learn all these lessons from feedback and more time, yet they don't go back and apply those lessons to the older characters.

This is especially true for Smash where the devs have made it clear that they aren't really on board with the competitive aspect of their game. Even though we did get patches after all characters were released, it doesn't change the fact that the newer characters were designed according to a different model.

I know this kind of states the obvious and only really has an impact at the highest level, but I thought I'd post it here and maybe generate a discussion. I know if I'm ever salty about DLC it's mainly because of this situation, where a few characters with updated design philosophies render a majority of the cast obsolete.

As the title says. Where do they go to make their coffee, or do they make it at home? Hot or cold? Sugary? Creamy? Completely black?

Captain Falcon crashes my game

So whenever someone picks certain Captain Falcon skins and we pick a stage my game gives me the "disc is dirty" message. Does anyone know why this happens or how to fix it?

I've seen this happen with a few other people (especially Captain Falcon) but for me it's Robin. YES, I'VE ALREADY TRIED CLEANING MY DISC. I can't find any good advise elsewhere, so help me out.
