Fallout - Farewell to Fallout 3

Farewell to Fallout 3

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 04:07 AM PST

I'd recently installed the free copy of Fallout 3 that came with 4 to do a quick run before picking up 4 again, to just refresh myself of all the recurring themes, characters, etc. I'd decided it would be my very last game of it.

That quick run that was meant to be maybe 10-20 hours ended up turning into 72, bought the DLC and had a real bash at all of them (even Mothership Zeta). That character is now my 'canon' LW.

After MZ, I went back to speak to Doctor Li, as I hadn't for a couple months in-game, since the MQ finished. Upon finding out she'd bolted for the Commonwealth, I realised it was a perfect natural stopping point. I only had two quest based achievements left which I didn't care much about, and I hadn't delved into every dungeon available. I found wandering the surface to be more fun. So I went back to Megaton, packed some provisions, said goodbye to Vault 101, and headed off to the riverboat with Dogmeat. Stood on it facing Rivet City, Project Purity and the Washington monument, gave a sigh and deleted the save. Jack and Dogmeat took that boat somewhere leaving the Capital Wasteland behind for good.

Thanks for the ride Fallout 3.

Also, RIP Charon. And sorry for selling you into slavery Bumble... didn't realise all I was going to get was a garbage hood.

What do you want to see in Fallout 5?

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 09:38 AM PST

FO4's gunplay/combat system was great, so I hope it's kept for fallout 5. In the next game in the franchise, I'm hoping for: -Expanded dialogue system(like in NV) -Maybe a silent protagonist(I didn't mind it too much, but it did get a bit repetitive and interferes with role playing) -Settlement system! :D -Better AI pathing/navmeshing -More vaults and dungeons with more lore -Actual unique weapons mixed with legendary weapons. I liked how the legendary system worked in 4, but it would be nice for unique weapons to have legendary effects not seen on any other weapon in the game What else do you all think would be good?

How come Fallout 4 is suddenly getting a lot of positive reviews?

Posted: 23 Nov 2017 09:59 PM PST

A few weeks ago it was being flooded with negative reviews and I remember it being Overwhelmingly Negative on steam. Did they change something to cause the sudden surge of positive reviews?

Playing Fallout 3 for the first time, what order to do the DLC in?

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 11:14 AM PST

If it doesn't matter that's fine, I just don't know. I have all the dlc, so it won't end after the main quest, I just want to know if there's an order to go in that would help me enjoy it the most

So I've just started Fallout 4 for the first time...

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 05:09 AM PST

And I immediately found the B.O.S and forgot i was on a quest for my son and Ryhs-len'ed myself from 4 to 27. Only to find out I need to continue the main quest for anything to progress....but Hey! I have one hell of a steam training power suiting sword swinging mama now.

Does A Tale of Two Wastelands work if I have FNV on steam and Fallout 3 on gog?

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 06:36 AM PST

I recently learned that there was a version of Fallout 3 that would work just fine out of box (so to speak) on windows ten, and that it was on gog. Naturally I was enthusiastic, having never played Fallout 3, and bought it right away. However, at the time I did not know of TTW, and now knowing about it I am very intrigued. My concern is whether or not I will be able to use TTW if my installation of FNV is through Steam and my installation of Fallout 3 is not. Will this not work, or will I be able (during installation of TTW ) to specifically select the install location of both games?

Feeling Dumb, Fallout 4

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 10:28 AM PST

Okay I'm stuck in Concord trying to kill a Deathclaw. I'm out of Stimpaks, no ammo for my mini gun, is there something specific for me to find to help kill this bastard?

Finally Getting Fallout 4

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 12:40 PM PST

So, I have more or less made up my mind to get the new Fallout 4 G.O.T.Y. However, with the recent introduction of the Bethesda Creation Club, I was wondering how much would it affect in-game mods? If this is a noob question, then I wholeheartedly apologize, but clearly I have no idea about its impact on the game and its mods, so I want to know more.

New Vegas PEGI ratings

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 02:34 PM PST

Has anyone else noticed that New Vegas has "gambling" in it according to PEGI, but Battlefront and other games where you gamble your money to maybe win something in return doesn't? Not to start a riot, but I just thought it was an interesting bit regarding the whole situation.

Who plays fallout?

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 01:55 PM PST

My GF asked if it was all dudes. She wanted to know why I made my newest character a woman. Made me wonder what the breakdown of make to female is for this game/series. I'm guessing 85/15 male to female.

Rank the Fallout Antagonists

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 04:24 AM PST

My list: I mostly considered only the Big Bads and their righthands

The Master: In a series where so many of the big baddies are cliched variations of Pure Human supremacists, the first is surprisingly refreshingly original.

House: Arguably the smartest man in the canon fallout universe. The main problem is that like most post FO3 antagonists the branching pathways means he doesn't get a good characterization as a villain. Plus he does stupid out of character things in service of the PC being able to beat him.

Eden: One of the best things about a game which wasn't exactly the best of the series.

Cochise: I threw in wasteland just cuz. More interesting than most fallout big bads.

Presper: Very interesting concept but almost nothing is known about him. Gosh so many people want to get rid of mutants. If the 'smartest man on earth' wants to as well maybe they're on to something?

Father: Interesting mostly in what he is rather than what he does. Quite a lost opportunity imo. Surprisingly not that intelligent if you look at his stats. Equal to Strong's.

Calculator: Effective as a villain in the same way sauron was in LOTR.

Lou: Love what's his name's voice

Lanius Horrigan: Lanius has the more interesting dialogue. Horrigan, probably the toughest humanoid in the entire canon, is the more interesting concept.

Caesar: New Vega's writers are better than Bethesda's but the characterization of CL doesn't make sense in my opinion. Caesar is mildly interesting and intelligent but not as much as he should be.

Benny: Decent wildcard villain. Not much of a formidable frightening threat tho.

Ulysses: Cool but not really villainish

General Barnaky: Another mutant hater. Like his voice actor

President Richardson: Effective mostly as a joke/referential villain for those familiar with 90s humor. Which is the problem much of the rest of FO2 suffered from.

ThinkTank: Okay 'funny' 'villains' Mobius: not really a villain

The Chinese Emperor: Planned to nuke the entire American Wasteland. A threat from outside the united states would have been really cool.

The Irradiated GECK: This is the closest I could get to a villain for FOT2. Really says alot when even this is more interesting than some of the other entries on this list.

Father Elijah: Mildly interesting concept. The face on the character was a little weird.

Alien Captain/General Jingwai: Again like Father mostly interesting for what they are than what they do: Exotic threats from alien factions powerful beyond the magnitude of anything else in canon.

Kellogg: Almost forgot about him, he's alright I guess.

Autumn: Average villain. Has some humanity which is a nice touch.

Maxson/Desmonda: Suffers from the typical post FO3 notreallyvillains syndrome. Maxson is better than Desmonda who is the Fallout equivalent of a PETA activist.

Salt Upon Wounds: Cool name, but you barely see him until he's whimpering like a baby at the end.

Prof Calvert: Had some amusing dialogue

Tecktus: Does he outrank the chick in the Commonwealth?

The Mechanist: The side quest in FO3 was kinda interesting. Haven't yet gone through Automata

Attis: Evil supermutant overlord. Nuff said.

Nukaworld raiders: Mostly unmemorable

Dima/Valary: More puppets for the typical humans are evil racists typical FO storyline. Dima has some characterization but not really as a bad guy.

Team Sigma: What filled in for the 'villain' of Broken Steel. On the other hand Has nice toys

Ashur/Wernher/Tobar: Barely remember anything about them.

Kimball: Pretty much just an assassination target.

Does this sound like a zany and fun time?

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 12:28 PM PST

So recently I've been bored in Fallout 4, so i started playing around a day into my survival playthru, and I've just thought of a really stupid side thing to do, in my current non survival game. That would be a power armour using a shitton of chems, and only fists. Given, I'd use the power armor over modded...mod so I can actually equip more than one misc mod that affects unarmed damage in power armour.

What faction should I choose, any tips for actually using PA, other than a high int to get the rank 9 perk ez and strength 9-10 for pain train (not needed 100%)

Fallout New Vegas Discord Server

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 12:21 PM PST

This is a New vegas discord server I made. You can choose your faction, which is under control of 1 of 3 leaders. There are specialized channels for each faction and a fleshed-out roleplay. There are also going to be events and there's a lot more to come.

Also we are looking for someone to lead the legion

I'd love to watch Benny's attempt at infiltrating the Legion bunker

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 03:41 PM PST

Over going through the initial dialogue with Caesar regarding how they captured Benny, he explains that Benny had used several stealth boys to get to the Fort, and actually sat in the boat whilst invisible the whole way.

I could only imagine how interesting it would be to watch this whole ordeal. Especially when he gets captured. Would be a nice touch!

Fallout 4 - Digital basegame and physical GoTY compatibility - PS4

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 03:56 AM PST

Hey guys,

Bought FO4 not long ago, but only the base game; however, the physical version of the GoTY is on sale well below season pass price sooo, I have some questions about compatibility between them. Hope you guys can help out.

  1. Are the saves compatible?

  2. Can DLC be used separately? As in I the digital version sees the physical's DLCs installed and can be played without disc

Thank you very much for the answers in advance!

Xbox One - FO4 - Endless loading with mods installed

Posted: 24 Nov 2017 10:42 AM PST

Anyone else run into this issue? My saves won't load; I just get stuck on the loading screen (doesn't freeze, the hints just loop and the game doesn't start up.) I can only load in when I disable/uninstall all of my mods.

Mostly cosmetic mods (Vivid Weathers, Enhanced Blood) plus UFO4 patch and the dialogue overhaul mod.

Edit: Experimented and found the culprit to be the dialogue overhaul mod. Shame, that's a fantastic mod too.
