Why, why, why do the Aztec citizen names in Civ 6 become Spanish in the modern era?

Posted: 05 Nov 2017 02:01 PM PST

This honestly completely flies in the face of Civ and what makes it fun. Why are their names being changed if the Spanish never conquered them, or never even existed to begin with? Would it not make more sense for them to remain Aztec? Sure, the Aztecs may not exist today, but they certainly do in my current game, and isn't part of the fun of Civ to give history the finger anyway?

Those are some strange new pop-ups..And probably a bug at the same time too. (Sorry for the horrible paint editing I'm really bad with photoshop programs)

Have my Civ 5 mods gone too far, or just far enough? (Rule 5: text pop-up, right side)

I thought Desert Folklore was over-rated, now I'm a believer.

Has anyone else noticed a jump in AI competency?

Posted: 05 Nov 2017 08:25 AM PST

Me and my buddy often team up and play games against tons of diety AI. Usually we can keep up but lately it's just been unwinnable.

Last few games we played there were runaways who had basically won the game by turn 150. 3-4 times our science output and able to produce new armies in 3-4 turns. It's not even fun, we're veterans of the series; have almost always had competitive games against Diety AI but now we just get totally smashed with no way to possibly come back.

We've wasted maybe our last 3 civ sessions because we played for about an hour or two and realized one of the AI was building space stations while we were still using crossbowmen. This is usually after we took down another civ + some city states too.

Has the meta changed? What're some strategies you guys are using? Just curious to see if anyone's experienced the same thing.

I always play continents maps but after the new Patch 9/10 of the 12 Ais will be on one Continent.

Posted: 05 Nov 2017 09:43 AM PST

I had this in 4 new Games now i started where 1 Continent was big clusterfuck and one continent was preety lonley with only 3 Ais.. I gues it has something to do with the spawn location bug since most Ais spawn really really close to each other.

Why didn't I get my cultural victory? No one else has won and culture victory is enabled

Civ Leader Idea: Diocletian and Maximian (2 player civ)

Posted: 05 Nov 2017 01:24 PM PST

Civ: Rome

Civ Leader: Diocletian and Maximian

Leader ability: The two Augusti

  • Start with two capitals, with Diocletian controlling one and Maximian controlling another. When all cities owned by Diocletian or Maximian are conquered they are eliminated while the other remains (production maluses remain). Diocletian and Maximian cannot gift cities to each other. Diocletian and Maximian can return conquered cities to each other.

  • Cities founded by Diocletian gain significant bonuses to Science and Faith production, as well as slight maluses to Culture and Military production. Diocletian has sole control of the tech tree (receiving Maximian's Beakers and Eurekas)

  • Cities founded by Maximian gain significant bonuses to Culture and Military production, as well as slight maluses to Science and Faith Production. Maximian has sole control of the civic tree. (receiving Diocletian's Culture and Inspirations)

Civ Ability: All Roads Lead to Rome

  • All cities start with a Trading Post, and new cities in Trade Route range of your Capital will automatically have a road going to them. Trade Routes going through your cities earn extra Gold.

Unique Unit: Legion

  • Swordsman Replacement

Unique Building: Bath*

  • Aqueduct Replacement

Why?

I think this Civ, or a Civ like it, would be enjoyable, as it forces two players to supplement their individual weaknesses with the other's strengths.

A well coordinated Diocletian and Maximian will get further ahead than a single-player CIV. But if they do not look out for each other and defend each other they will suffer for the rest of the game.

*Rome's Unique ability "All roads lead to Rome" will allow Diocletian and Maximian to benefit from an intricate network of roads leading through each other's cities, also allowing them to send units faster in support of each other.

  • I believe there should be some sort of settler malus as well due to the bonus starting city but am not quite sure how it would work or to what degree.

  • I personally left out particular percentages and numbers as I feel it would detract from the concept of the Civ, and it would obviously require play-testing to find a balance that would allow them to get ahead through strict coordination but suffer in the absence thereof.

A step forward with more creative natural wonders and more flexibility of terrain

Posted: 05 Nov 2017 04:25 PM PST

I am watching Planet Earth right now and came to the conclusion that Firaxis could so much more interesting natural wonders. Pantanal is an interesting take on multiple-tile wonders – but why don't you go a step further. How about Sundarbans? A natural wonder placed at a estuary! Or how about waterfalls like the Victoria Falls or Angel Falls! What about Grand Canyon? Paria Canyon, Hierapolis-Pamukkale springs, Socotra Archipelago islands (addition to the Galapagos islands) and so on.

I'm sure that Firaxis is already planning new natural wonders so feel free to take a look into this post! :D

Speaking of more flexibility and dynamic - how amazing would it be if the tiles are changing depending on your actions. For example: there are forest tiles just beneath to some desert tiles. If you're chopping the wood down, you damage the nature and a countdown will start before the desert will spread and the tile will turn into a desert tile. Just a example but think about the possibilities! Adding melting glaciers, rivers which will run dry, nearby tiles to industrial zones are losing food because of the pollution. It's an interesting step that Pedro II. gets mad when you chop down rain forest – an interesting step would also be to introduce a climate win condition.

The last thing i thought of stems from the fact that in the modern era humanity can influence nature in a way we have never before. We can build huge tunnels (Gotthardtunnel in the Switzerland), we can build islands (like the Palm island in Dubai), we can build rivers and canals. To a certain extend it would be amazing if we can terraform the tiles in the latest stage of the game imo.

This stuff got posted probably already but i had to get these ideas of my chest! :D

Any essential mods?

Posted: 05 Nov 2017 11:32 AM PST

I haven't played since about a month after launch. Played about 40 hours and enjoyed my time. I know there have been quite a few patches and better Workshop functionality added. Just wondering if there's any mods that feel essential to make the game feel better as a whole in terms of UI/usability/convenience, or does the base game feel solid?

EDIT: Forgot to say for CivVI
