Fallout - (New Vegas) Just Finished Dead Money. Some thoughts. (Spoilers)

(New Vegas) Just Finished Dead Money. Some thoughts. (Spoilers)

New Vegas, to me, was always a power fantasy. I always end up overpowered in the game, maybe because I go out of my way to finish most side quests, but I did the same with Fallout 3 and that game was much more of a survival game than New Vegas. I don't just "survive" in New Vegas, I practically own the place. Besides going into a Deathclaw nest, not much can really harm me.

Then I played Dead Money for the first time this week. Wow. What a juxtaposition. My sniper rifles, automatics, machine guns? Gone. My horde of Stimpaks? Gone. Instead I have a weapon in a pitiful condition with limited ammo (some of which I wasted on that first Ghost Person whom I couldn't even permanently kill yet). All this, for the first time of me playing New Vegas, gave me something to actually worry about. Never before was I trapped in a corner like this. To top it all off, the only skills which were low level when I started the DLC were Survival, Unarmed, Melee Weapons, Medicine. The four arguably most important skills to have. I entered the DLC at level 24 and none of those skills were over a 30. Fuck.

For the first time in New Vegas I went out of may to scavenge for items. Stuff I wouldn't normally ever pick up were important now, like cigarette packs which could be traded to the vending machines. Also went out of my way to try and sneak past enemies when normally I'd take the entire pack on. Also doesn't help that there aren't too many healing spots. There's like, one bed in the police station and one or two auto-docs that heal you? Besides them, I was relying on the odd Stimpak and any consumable. With my low Medicine skill, I couldn't recover too much HP this way anyway so stealth was crucial. It made me play the game in a completely different way.

Honestly, did not appreciate the Villa sections. The characters were fun but the Cloud can just fuck off and tired of hitting Ghost People with bear traps. Traps on the floor were not that big of a deal if you know to look out for them. The radios were infuriating, though. Did not enjoy searching for them and destroying them but now that I know where most of them are subsequent playthroughs will be easier.

But inside the actual casino was really fun! Radios were easier to find and destroy, and reading the history of the casino in terminals was also really interesting. Avoiding those holograms were fun. Seeing your companions (and having to kill them if you treated them badly, sorry Dean) was also cool. I think the DLC ended perfectly, I chose to trap Elijah in the vault, and got out with all 37 bars of gold. I don't think I'll sell them though... it would break the game. I don't even know if I can sell them? With my Barter skill I think each bar would go for ~10,000 caps, and I don't know if any NPC even has that much on them.

Overall, at first I disliked the DLC a lot. The casino sections, I enjoyed much more. I do appreciate it made me explore a play style I wouldn't normally choose though. I think I'll enjoy this one as I play it again, as I'll know the layout of the Villa, where to get helping items, and so on more.

Thanks for the read! What'd you guys think of Dead Money?

If the next Fallout were to be set in your current city, what details and/or landmarks would you hope the developers would include?

"A company which makes cannabis products has bought an entire town in California and plans to turn it into a "destination" for marijuana.

American Green has agreed a deal to buy the town of Nipton for $5m (£3.8m)."

Hopefully this means that Boxcars won't need to beg to OD on MedX!

Who else loves assaultrons? If there is one thing that fallout 4 did right was intriguing a cool new robot.

Fallout 4 - Which faction to pick?

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 11:52 AM PDT

I have an embarrassing amount of hours played on side quests but I've always avoided the main quest because I'm so torn on who to side with.

It seems like the railroad is the closest thing to the 'good guys' but they irritate me. I can't exactly put my finger on why but I don't like them much and they seem to not be interested in helping the common wealth as a whole but only helping synths.

I'm leaning towards The Brotherhood but they seem a bit crazy when it comes to non-humans which turns me off. I'm also afraid to turn against them because of their stupid vertibirds that I assume will come after me.

I would love to side with the Minutemen but they also seem a bit useless in advancing the commonwealth. And the institute seems downright evil so I won't be siding with them.

I understand that they intentionally made every faction have their pros and cons, but it seems a bit excessive. It seems like there is no good choice ..

Who did you pick and why?

I made a Fallout 3 Plasma Pistol prop

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 10:07 PM PDT

Here's a Fallout 3 Plasma Pistol that I made.

http://imgur.com/gallery/SYU4t

Some details about the build: Most of the parts are 3d printed. The center core is made from a soda bottle and frosted glass spray to give it that semi-transparent look. An LED strip is inside the core and is powered by a battery that I hid inside the energy cell. The thinner tubes on the outside are made from 3/8 copper pipe. I painted everything as best as I could to closely resemble the reference images online.

This is the first prop that I have built and must say that I am very impressed with the results!

Why are the turret controls in Fallout 4 AFTER the turrets?

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 12:04 PM PDT

Its just the third FO game i play after 3 and NV, maybe im a little bit unexperienced. Anyways, to the point, it seems from a logical standpoint it would make sense that the turrets controls would be protected by the turrets right? Maybe im just being fucking stupid and illogical but from a gameplay standpoint it seems so stupid to me to have the terminal hacked to discover that the incredible manouver that you just perfomed with your hacking skills was. completely. useless.

Im liking the game tho

Truth meets (New Vegas) Fiction: Nipton purchased by marijuana company

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 12:03 PM PDT

This news article...

http://www.businessinsider.com/american-green-nipton-california-marijuana-town-2017-8

combined with this game quote...

"Nipton was a wicked place, debased and corrupt. It served all comers, as long as they paid. Profligate troops, Powder Gangers, men of the Legion such as myself. The people here didn't care. It was a town of whores. For a pittance, the town agreed to lead those it had sheltered into a trap. Only when I sprang it did they realize they were caught inside it, too." — Vulpes Inculta

make for an amusing combination of truth meets fiction.

Favorite Companion from Each Game

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 09:21 AM PDT

Who is your favorite companion from each game? Fallout 3: My favorite is Fawkes. He is a beast during combat and becomes almost like a bodyguard to some degree instead of a companion. I also admire his intelligence given that he's a super mutant. New Vegas: Boone. He's a total badass and it's fun fighting with him because he's got nothing to lose. Fallout 4: Dogmeat. He just makes the wasteland seem less lonely but without all the constant banter lol. I also love Nick Valentine but Dogmeat gets the edge

Cheapest Place to Buy the Games?

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 02:12 PM PDT

Hi! I've been a long-time fan of the Fallout Series, and I've been wondering where the cheapest place to buy Fallout 3 and New Vegas might be at the moment. I own and love both on console, but I'm looking to have an enhanced experience through PC.

Thank you!
