Just played my first dota 2 game, what comes next? Posted: 04 Aug 2017 02:51 PM PDT Hello, I just played my first game of dota 2, I played a game of Anti-Mage and let's just say I got absolutely obliterated! I went 0/7/0 before our time decided to stand in base and let them win. It was the first time I ever had fun losing, even though the game went quick and i did nothing. So my question is, where do i go from here? how do i try to not be a liability to my team every game and what are some good resources to not feed every game? [link] [comments] |
Heroes who can start off supporting and transition to a bit more of a carry? Posted: 04 Aug 2017 12:33 PM PDT I've not really played much in the past few months, what's changed on this front? Anything? I used to love playing heroes like Crystal Maiden and Treant Protector but they feel so worthless after the nerfs. CM in particular is a joke. So I'm thinking I need to look at semi-support/semi-carry heroes instead. [link] [comments] |
Tell me about some gimmick builds that you've had success with. Posted: 04 Aug 2017 10:22 AM PDT Among all the MMR crawls, raging, and meta builds it's never bad to have fun every now and again, and what's a better way than playing a hero how they aren't suppose to be played. Maybe you do a slasher's build on void, or maybe your CM build needs a bit of a dagon in it for that extra "support". Personally I am a person who loves these gimmicks, sitting at the wonderous world of 2k most people expect a specific build every time out of a hero, so sometimes I like to mix it up and surprise them, it doesn't work 100% of the time, but the delight it brings me to win with some meme build is the best. So go on, take a break from the grind, the MMR trudge, and the rage and tell me about your funny gimmick builds that you've wanted to either try or that you've won with. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Aug 2017 03:17 PM PDT I actually planned to write a long form piece on this a long time ago but never got around to it. I'm just posting because I am especially triggered by this post because I see this so often. This is someone who thinks 5k players, whom are viewed as game ruining by 7k players just by existing in their games, as having "perfect basics". Kobe bryant didn't shoot THOUSANDS OF 3 POINTERS IN THE OFFSEASON EVERY SINGLE DAY because he had his basics perfected. Sumail & paparazzi don't incessantly 1v1 peers who rival their greatness because the basics don't matter.
That's a John Wooden quote. If you don't know him, he won TEN NCAA Championships and was awarded the presidential medal of freedom, America's highest civil award for being so excellent at coaching basketballl. Your fundamentals and your basics are never perfect. They are the absolute baseline for your performance. They are the skills you rely on in the most pressured, intense, difficult, and worthwhile games. No matter how bad a day you're having if you have grinded your last hit practice correctly and methodically you will last hit well. No matter how tired you are if you have forced yourself into proper map routines you will avoid avoidable deaths. The absolute first thing you should focus on if you are trying to improve at dota is making your fundamentals, basics, better than they were yesterday. That's all for now. How do I have more impact as Invoker? Posted: 04 Aug 2017 03:38 PM PDT Invoker is a hero I feel can really excel my MMR again if I can just impact the game with him. I know how all of his spells work and their combos, I know some things like Alacrity on splitpushing forge spirits and stuff, but I can never turn team fights or do anything flashy. I just kinda exist. I guess I'm just looking for general tips. I don't remember the last time I picked him up in a game because I always lose, so I can't post a match ID. [link] [comments] |
How to acquire drops from the in-game stream Posted: 04 Aug 2017 03:24 PM PDT Hey all, I've been trying to figure out how to acquire the drops when a notable event happens in-game and you're viewing the stream. I've googled it, but the only thing I've found is that you need a Ticket, but there doesn't seem to be a ticket for TI7. Any help would be awesome. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Aug 2017 07:07 PM PDT I really love supporting with my 2-3k friends, it's fun and rewarding. Sadly I'm 1.2k and in solo ranked I get PA's who buy just blades of attack Vs a bristle veno lane, and then complain when they have to go to base at 2:30 into the game. I carry consistently at this MMR. Do I just carry my way out of it, or do I continue practicing support (which I want to play) with people who don't understand basic things like last hitting instead of autoattacking, or buying regen in a lane. How do you offlane as a melee hero vs ursa? Posted: 04 Aug 2017 07:45 AM PDT Like its just impossible to trade hits with him he can zone you out so hard with just like an orb of venom and once he gets phase boots its like over. [link] [comments] |
I've created a Discord server to try and create a friendly place for Dota players - new and old Posted: 04 Aug 2017 12:20 PM PDT Hi there, I'm a relative newbie when it comes to Dota 2, only been playing for about 4-5 months and I'm trying hard to climb to 1k, so from a skill point of view I'm pretty much irrelevant. However, I do have a much better view on the new player experience than a 5-6k player who has spent nearly as many years playing the game, and for me personally the biggest thing that made me stick to playing Dota was having like-minded people helping me out. I don't know if you guys remember the Commandos - it was a group of EUW players who wanted to create a battle cup team and ended up with a discord server with dozens of people, a very friendly atmosphere and I personally am only still playing Dota today because of them. I learnt pretty much all the basics there, but unfortunately that server has pettered out of existence, so I thought that I'd use an old server I'd created for a battlecup for something productive, and I'm trying to replicate in some form what the Commandos was. So, if you are a new player looking for friendly, similar skilled players to hang out with, chat out about TI, and maybe get some tips and play some games, or if you are a veteran who wants to laugh at the hopelessness of us newbies, pop over to "Ortu Siderum" (latin for Rising Stars) here! Recent pathing issue for heroes? Or am I crazy Posted: 04 Aug 2017 02:52 PM PDT I had two games online, and in both I noticed that something was wrong. In teamfights, I'm constantly creating new paths. But instead of instantly responding to the latest path, my hero first completes the original path, then the second one, then the third, etc. and it keeps getting me killed because I end up far away from my teammates. I've tried cancelling the action with S, and it appears not to work. Am I missing something? edit: I'm moving just with right-click, not shift-clicking at all. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Aug 2017 02:49 PM PDT Hi ! We're a team, with more or less 4 people always there and 3 swappable guys. Our "captain" is a good mid player but he's a bit cocky so that can be a problem because he could make bad calls because he could be on his nerves and take all the jungle farm to the roamer because he's deemed more important. But that's not our problem, he can still carry very well with Invoker and OD. I'm hardlane, I almost never loose my hardlane, I die between 0 and 2 times on average depending on the hero and the ganks I get. The supp's good and the carry does its job, the roamer is really nice too. No the real problems are our team compos and coordinations. So would you have team compos, tips and any thing that could help us so we have more stable results and stop take +200MMR in one day and -300MMR the day next. Thank you ! (quick infos: Our MMR range from 2.8K to 3.5K for team MMR and 3.2 to 3.7 for solo MMR, sometimes we have a 4.5K friends but that doesn't automatically equals a win) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Aug 2017 02:39 PM PDT He's always been one of my favorite heroes but has just been shit tier for almost as long as I can remember. But now, out of no where he's being picked constantly in the TI group stages (and is doing pretty well) I was expecting to see a lot of Arc Warden since so many pro players had been spamming him in pubs but instead we got PL, and it's weird to see him dominating when heroes like Sven and Earthshaker are so popular. Why do you think this is? [link] [comments] |
When to choose certain Heroes? Posted: 04 Aug 2017 06:47 AM PDT Hi Guys, I thought this could be a useful question for both new and experienced players, to share ideas and advice. When do you choose certain heroes? Maybe list a hero you like to play and what lineup makes him a great pick to add to a team or to counter a team. Is there any hero that an enemy picks which makes you automatically decide on a counter? Or likewise, if you see your team pickup a certain hero or lineup, what do you add to complement it? Is there ever a lineup or few hero's you think you should always try to grab if you have the chance? For example, picking Legion to lock down a Drow or AntiMage. Or a Timbersaw to counter a melee heavy lineup. As a fairly new player it would be a great help! [link] [comments] |

How do you go highground and close out the game? Posted: 04 Aug 2017 01:49 PM PDT https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3355915556 Just had a ridiculous 93min match that went on way longer than it should have, we had a networth + xp lead at around 30-50min but could not close out the game, it went on so long that I decided to buy Radiance + Manta just to push out waves even though I am Invoker. Sniper just sat highground with a Rapier at one point and we had to just keep going back and forth until it was megas vs. megas, such a long game and we barely won the match eventually. What I want to know is how on earth we could have closed that match earlier, seemed so unnecessarily tough even when we were so far ahead. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Aug 2017 05:03 AM PDT That was alot of to's, but really this is how I imagine it. When you're 4k, then you have alot of your basics down, but you lack in other information to help you raise your game, i.e map awareness, drafting, knowing when to push and when to farm. When you're 5k, atleast how I have felt it since geting there, is that everyone has got their basics down PERFECTLY. Not with 4ks where they have them down and know about them. 5k last-hitting, map awareness, laning, team-fighting, they've got everything down to a pat. I feel that my positioning, drafting, and laning are the things keeping me down. But after I've got those down, what will it take for me to break the 6k ceiling? I've heard that after 5-6k good decision-making is what makes you rise, as you can't really improve on things that you've perfected. I believe there is more to it than that though, so I was wondering what other 4-6k players would say to this. TL;DR What does it take for a 5k to rise to 6k and what sets them apart? Can someone catch me up on the important changes to the game in the past 6-9 months? Posted: 04 Aug 2017 01:33 PM PDT Getting back into the game currently, haven't seriously played in a while. If someone could give me a quick rundown of the major things to be aware of, I would greatly appreciate it. [link] [comments] |
How do you double wave in the mid? What is the best time and situation to do it? Posted: 04 Aug 2017 08:53 AM PDT |
Posted: 04 Aug 2017 10:10 AM PDT I couldn't find a post about this as I'm sure it's been discussed since it was going on during qualifiers.. why are pros doing duel mid lanes? I know the extra creep might help with the exp but is it to keep creep equilibrium even? Easy fb? 2k mmr scrub so I'm not surprised I can't figure it out [link] [comments] |
Did Dotabuff start analyzing more matches than usual? Posted: 04 Aug 2017 01:27 AM PDT For me Dotabuff started analyzing a lot more matches than usual. This happened both on my "main" account and my main account. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Aug 2017 08:44 AM PDT Hi, I've tried playing him in offlane but no matter what items I get, I feel like I'm kind of useless. It looks like I should be getting support items but when I go offlane we already have a support player(s) getting those items (pipe, mek, etc). I've tried getting some items that were recommended for "carry" build but I still felt kind of weak. I guess my question is - is this hero playable? If so, which position and how to itemize him? I feel like no matter the item build, I just put my tomb down, use ult and run around spamming Q on people which doesn't seem to be dealing that much dmg anyway. [link] [comments] |
Still work buying battle pass? Posted: 04 Aug 2017 04:50 AM PDT Hello I'm currently sitting at around 1550 mmr. It's not much but I've climbed from sub 500. I'm just wondering if it's worth buying a battle pass this late in the season. A couple of quick questions though. Does your international mmr stay at what your regular mmr is? And Do you think it's better or worse that regular ranked in terms of general skill and how serious people take it? (tbh I just finished a ranked game where our mid was ganked two times... Said "gg ff and feed" and proceeded to only buy sentries to place next to fountain and feed the other team :/ so it's like to avoid this situation) [link] [comments] |
