NoobFromUA appreciation thread Posted: 05 Aug 2017 04:44 AM PDT This guy is literally working his ass off, posting recaps of every game, every day of TI so far. His game highlights are on point, and as someone who doesnt have the time to watch every single game, I can't thank him enough. Edit: Everyone saying that he shouldnt be appreciate for the work he is doing because he makes money from it, is completely disregarding the fact that he build his Channel from the ground. He didnt always make money from posting videos, he worked hard to get where he is today. submitted by /u/TheMagicalPie [link] [comments] |

Interesting facts about Chinese broadcasting scene Posted: 04 Aug 2017 11:20 PM PDT The Chinese broadcasting scene is very different from the English one. In English broadcasting scene, getting invited to TI is undoubtedly the most important achievement for all talents. All popular English talents will gather at TI each year (except 2GD and KotlGuy I guess). And 99% of viewers will watch the official English channel. However, it is almost opposite for Chinese broadcasting scene. That is, almost all popular Chinese talents choose not to join the official broadcasting team, instead they cast all games on their own channel, which have much more viewers than the official channel. Who are the popular Chinese talents? Retired pro players. And some retired pro players formed casting teams. The first and most popular team is Old Boys (OB), including IG.YYF, IG,ZHOU, LGD.DD, DK.ZIPPO, DK.LONGDD, EHOME.820. They spread on different streaming platforms and usually have the most viewers on their respective platform. Earlier this year, Xiao8 followed suit and formed South-North F4. F4 also has IG.430, Newbee.Mu, Newbee. SanSheng. Because SanSheng joined the official broadcasting at Seattle, Newbee.Hao took his spot during TI7. Last night, Xiao8's baby was born, so he went to hospital and IG.Chuan joined F4's casting (Yes, all F4 members and even little helpers are TI champions). Last year, as ROTK and BurNing failed to make TI, they also teamed up and formed a casting duo. They are very likely to team up again after retirement, in my opinion. How does their broadcasting work? All members from one team will broadcast one game together, unless there are multiple Chinese teams playing at the same time. They will do OB themselves in-game. After the game, they will switch to official broadcasting channel and let the viewers watch players' reaction or handshakes etc. In between the games, they will play online poker, arcade games or just talk random anecdotes. Why? Because they have streaming contracts worthy half million to multiple millions of dollars per year. If you remember EE's famous blog after leaving Team Secret, he mentioned that he got an offer of half million dollars to stream on PandaTV. And EE's popularity is nowhere near those retired Chinese players. TI attracts the most viewers in a year, so both the platform and streamer don't want to waste the chance to score huge viewer number, which is crucial for their future contract negotiation. Moreover, viewers are more likely to give streamers gift during TI (like donation for Twitch) for celebrating a big win or asking streamer to tell stories on certain player etc. Sometimes, streamers can earn thousands of dollars per day from gifts alone. Who is on official broadcasting team then? Except for a few pro players (LaNm, SanSheng this year), all other Chinese talents come from different studios (e.g., MarsTV, imbaTV). Their popularity simply can't match OB or F4. Tl;dr Most popular Chinese talents do casting on their own channel, instead of joining the official team, because of the lucrative steaming money. 105 Heroes Have been Picked in 1st 3 days of TI. Posted: 04 Aug 2017 11:40 PM PDT ZRemianing unpicked heroes are: Abaddon, Bane, Lion, Meepo, Spectre, Tiny, Wraith King, and Techies (not in captains mode). 2 heroes have been banned but not picked: Meepo (6 bans) and Lion (1 ban). Abaddon, Bane, Spectre, Tiny, Wraith King, and Techies (not in CM) are the only 6 heroes completely ignored in all drafts through 3 days of TI. Only 10 of the 105 heroes picked at TI so far are winless: Arc Warden, Slark, Chen, Undying, Skywrath Mage, Windranger, Pudge, Treant Protector, Underlord, and Outworld Devourer. IMO the most impressive stat is that only 8 heroes have been picked/banned in 50% or more of the drafts in the first 3 days of TI7: Nyx Assassin (81%), Night Stalker (81%), Puck (78%), Batrider (76%), Earthshaker (56%), Faceless Void (54%), Sand King (53%), and Sven (50%). The most picked hero so far is Earthshaker with 45 games. The most Banned hero so far is Night Stalker with 69 bans (nice!). edit UPDATE: EE & C9 win with Arc Warden against DC. 9 winless heroes left of the 105 picked. edit2 UPDATE 2: C9 picks Abaddon in game 2 vs DC and wins. submitted by /u/wcprice2 [link] [comments] |

TI7 Group Stage Possibilities and Situations Posted: 04 Aug 2017 10:03 PM PDT Hi guys! I made these threads for TI5 and TI6 so I thought I will make it again this year for tradition and because Day 3 is over. This post will answer the ff. questions: Can a team get into the upper bracket, if so, how? Can a team get into the lower bracket, if so, how? Can a team still be eliminated, if so, how? I would need some help so there's that. Some notes. The rules state that: - a 2-0 gets 2 points, a 1-1 gets 1 point, and a 0-2 gets no points.
- Top 4 teams go to the Upper Bracket; Bottom 4 teams will go to the Lower Bracket. The last place team will be eliminated and take home around USD60k.
- If 2 or more teams are tied and it involves 4th and 5th place, and 8th and 9th place, more games will be played. If it doesn't involved 4th and 5th place. It compares the match-up history, then on the wins vs the team below them, then coin toss.
Not sure but from last year, Top 1 and Top 5 of each group chooses the team they will face from the other group (Top 1 chooses 3 or 4, Top 5 chooses 7 or 8). I used the Liquipedia page for most of the data and information. Group A Team | W-L | Remaining games | Liquid | 11-3 | Secret | LGD | 10-4 | TNC | EG | 9-5 | Fnatic | TNC | 9-5 | LGD | Secret | 7-7 | Liquid | IG.V | 7-7 | Infamous | Team Empire | 6-10 | N/A | Infamous | 3-11 | IG.V | Fnatic | 2-12 | EG | Scenarios and comments LGD can get top 1 if they 2-0 TNC and Liquid at most ties them in the standings. Tiebreaks would look at EG (both 1-1), then TNC, which LGD won 2-0 while Liquid drew 1-1. Both Liquid and LGD are ensured of Upper Bracket. They cannot go to the lower bracket even though they lose out tomorrow. EG and TNC can ensure UB tomorrow by getting at least 1 win. If Liquid, LGD, EG, and TNC end up in draws tomorrow. this is how it breaks. - Any tiebreak that involes both TNC and LGD cannot happen since they both need different results from each other to be tied to each other in the standings.
- Liquid, LGD, EG: that means Liquid loses to secret 0-2, LGD draws TNC, and EG wins 2-0 against Fnatic. The 3 teams are tied in their match-ups, all 1-1 against TNC. But LGD 2-0ed Secret, the next team below them, then EG and TNC drew Secret 1-1; EG would then take 2nd since the next team that breaks the tie is Empire, which EG won 2-0, and TNC drew 1-1.(thanks /u/206-Ginge)
- Liquid, EG, TNC: same as above except that TNC should 2-0 LGD for the 3 teams to tie-up. They are all 1-1 against each other so it goes to the next rule. LGD is below these teams and TNC 2-0ed LGD, whereas the other 2 got 1-1. TNC ends up at number 1; and it depends on the next team below them, if it's Secret, EG gets number 2, if it's IG.V, Liquid gets top 2.
- EG and TNC: doesn't matter since that's a tie for 3rd-4th. But for those curious, it depends on which team is below them. If it's LGD, TNC gets 3rd place, if it's not, then EG gets 3rd since the next team that breaks the tie is Empire, which EG won 2-0, while TNC drew 1-1.
- Liquid and EG: see above on Liquid, EG and TNC tiebreak
- EG and LGD: see above on Liquid, EG and TNC tiebreak.
- Liquid and TNC: TNC wins since they should 2-0 LGD for this tie to happen.
The magic number to get into the upper bracket is 10. If there's a 3 or 4 way tie between EG, TNC, IG.V, and Secret, more games will be played. That tie is between 3rd to 6th place. IG.V and Secret can stil force tiebreaks for UB if they win 2-0 their matchups, and if either EG and/or TNC lose 0-2 against their respective opponents. If this happens Fnatic gets in the main event, and Infamous drops out. If they tie for number 5. The tie between IG.V and Secret depends who remains in the tournament. If Fnatic get in, Secret gets number 5. If it's Infamous, it depends on the IG.V vs Infamous tomorrow. Empire is done with everything. They can't be eliminated since they are above at least 2 teams, Infamous and Fnatic. Infamous cannot make it to the upper bracket but can still be eliminated if they lose out tomorrow and Fnatic forces a tiebreaker with them Fnatic can make it to the LB by getting 2-0 against EG, and **Infamous loses out. They can still force a tiebreaker for 8th if they draw EG 1-1, game and Infamous loses out. They will be eliminated if they get 0-2. Group B Team | W-L | Remaining games | LFY | 13-1 | OG | Newbee | 8-4 | VP, DC | VP | 8-4 | NB, IG | OG | 7-5 | Exec, LFY | IG | 7-5 | HR, VP | DC | 6-6 | C9, NB | Execration | 4-10 | OG | C9 | 2-10 | DC, HR | HellRaisers | 1-11 | IG, C9 | Scenarios and comments LFY is clinched for top 1. Newbee and VP both can ensure their UB if they win all of their games, 3 wins would ensure them at least a tiebreaker for 4th place, maybe higher. The Newbee and VP match-up tomorrow will determine what happens to the tiebreak between those 2, with OG, IG, and DC. whoever loses 0-2 to the other might find themselves to a tiebreaker in the 3rd to 6th spot or even . If it's a tie then DC might end up in the lower bracket. Whoever gets 2-0 can have the better chance of getting to the UB. Either can still go to the lower bracket by winning only 1 game or no games since DC, OG, and IG can catch up to them. For OG to make it to the UB, they need to win more games than IG. If they end up tying with IG, and potentially DC, they would go to tiebreakers. The same can be said for IG; They need to win more games than OG to ensure at a least a tiebreaker for 4th place. The magic number for Newbee, VP, OG, and IG is 11. IF they get 11 wins, they get at least a tiebreaker for 4th place ensure a place in the Upper Bracket. (thanks /u/lonelyawn, and /u/icefr4ud, /u/skatiN64) For DC, they need to win all of their games and hope that both OG and IG (and even Newbee and VP) lose 2 or more games tomorrow. Once those teams get 11 wins, their chances of getting into the UB gets lower, since the most that they can get is 10 wins. They can only hope for a tiebreaker with the 4 teams above them. If 2 or more of those teams lose out tomorrow, they might end up with tiebreaks or even sneak-past the UB; but they still need to win some games. If they lose all of their games, they end up in the LB. Execration can't make it to the UB. They can ensure LB if they win their OG game. Getting 1 game ensures them at least a tiebreaker if HR wins all of their games tomorrow. If HR loses at least 2 games tomorrow, Execration will clinch their spot at the main event. C9 can clinch their main event spot by winning at least 3 games tomorrow. If they 2-0 DC, they just need 1 win against HR. If they win at least 2 games tomorrow, they can still be eliminated via tiebreakers with HR and/or Exec. Winning 1 game tomorrow means that they have to rely on HR to also lose some of their games. The series against HR would make or break their run to the main event. HR would need to win at least 3 games tomorrow and hope that Execration or C9 loses at least one game tomorrow to at least get a tiebreaker with either one or both of those teams. They'll be facing IG first tomorrow who also needs wins to have a decent shot at their UB. If they get 4-0 tomorrow, then they make it to the main event as at least the 8th seed (Since they would be 5-11, and C9 would be at most 4-12). Final Notes It's easier to predict the scenarios for this year than last year because of the amount of games. For the tiebreakers: I assumed they will be played tomorrow after the short group stage. For fantasy people, I think it would be best to insert from group B since 7 teams have 2 games each, and since most of the 7 teams can go into tiebreakers. I'll edit the scenarios when I read and take into account the comments. Feel free to pitch in some ideas. Thanks! If you can teach me how to insert team logos in a post, that would be great. I'll reply at around 7pm (GMT+8). Have to go somewhere. See you later. I'm back. I thought about the 11 win scenario in Group B when I was going home and people actually commented about it. Thanks for the insight, and edited! submitted by /u/allen004 [link] [comments] |
