Posted: 05 Aug 2017 03:20 AM PDT First, a foreword. It is August. It's been almost 10 months since the release date of Civ 6 and I'm itching for a discussion. I've suggested it to the mods before but it's been 5 days since the start of August and no dice. Oh well. I figured I might start now than never. Unlike the previous discussions, I will do this in a weekly basis. This is mostly because I'm not a mod. I will start with America, but for the next civ discussion, I'm setting up a straw poll on which civ you would like to discuss next. Note that for the first few weeks, France, Greece, Kongo, Norway, Scythia, Spain and Nubia will be omitted to give people more time to play the latest patch. EDIT: It's stickied on the sidebar now, yay! Vote here for the next Civ of the Week. Did something recently happen to the AI? Posted: 05 Aug 2017 07:43 PM PDT I launched Civ. 6 today after a week or two without playing it, and I thought maybe a slight difference here and there thinking there was a small update, maybe one that went under the radar. However, as I continued playing the AI utterly shocked me twice, and I'm not sure if it was a one time fluke, or maybe something to do with a recent update, or maybe the AI is just worse than I thought. Some background: Playing on a Huge map with a max number of Civs as America, Epic Speed, Prince Difficulty, currently ~550 turns in. I ended my turn and waited as the AI proceeded with theirs, accepting and/or denying deals as they presented themselves to me. Here comes Germany, who because of his city state agenda has had a bad relationship with me the entire game, asking for some Cotton and a strategic resource. His offer was some tobacco and maybe some gold per turn, I forget but assure you it was nothing beyond the par trade standard most AI's give you. Anyways, I hate giving AI's (especially those who hate me) strategic resources, so I naturally unchecked that and asked for a lot of GPT in exchange. I didn't expect him to take it since, well, he's an AI, and we know how most of them would ask for your entire empire for a single luxury resource. However, to my surprise, he still presented me with the message, "Looks good to me." So I got cocky and decided, "heh, lets throw a city in there.", so I clicked one of his 5 cities and his stance on the trade didn't budge. He was not only alright with giving me a large amount of GPT, and an entire city! Then I thought, "hmm, lets see how far this can go..." And so I followed it up by adding another, and another, and another until his entire list of cities was added and he had nothing bad at all to say. I accepted and the trade menu disappeared but didn't pull me out of the dialogue screen. After a few alt-tabs thinking the game froze, he finally said "Thank you friend." So here I am, looking around and I see up top that I have all of his tobacco now because the cities he gave me were where the plantations were located. He gave me all of his cities to curl up and be happy with his single city and some Cotton. The second experience was literally not even a minute after, Brazil asks for some tobacco that I just so happened to recently acquire. He's offering a low amount of GPT, so I decide to raise it up and ask for more. This is also a side annoyance of mine, can you see the AI's GPT? In Civ 5 you can easily see it, but in Civ 6 it does not readily show it anywhere. The only way to see it is to ask for an enormous amount of GPT such as 500, and then the game will recognize the AI doesn't have that much to give, and set the asking amount to the highest amount the AI can actually give. Maybe it's just me but I find it highly inconvenient. Anyways, I find out through the means I described above that Brazil is making 95 GPT, and again like Germany has no problem with it. So here I am now typing this with an additional 6 cities all needing amenities, and making an additional 95 GPT. Do you guys have any input on this? You think it was just a poor AI choice twice in a row, or did something recently change how the AI trade? Edit: Some grammar [link] [comments]

Posted: 05 Aug 2017 08:00 PM PDT Does the R.E.D. Modpack work on the new patch? I was going to try it, but want to make sure it works first, since I know mods like CQUI don't work at the moment [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Aug 2017 06:51 PM PDT So...what map types do people like to play on and why? Other than earth/tsl (because it's self explanatory). I always feel..cheap when trying to play archipelago or something more ocean based, especially if I pick a civ like england or norway. But if I play on continents, I encounter too many civs too quickly, forcing me into war or depriving me of expansion (even worse than city states decide to spawn in places that box me in). Fractal is cool, but I can never get the terrain I want. I don't get tundra as russia, desert as nubia, mountains as anyone who wants to build a holy site or campus, etc. I'm tempted to go shuffle, but it might end up even worse...I'm not sure what type of map I will enjoy the most. Oh and I hate pangea for the same reason as continents. Civ 5 had the communitas map mod..does civ 6 have it, or is there something similar to it? [link] [comments]

So can we talk about how broken the AI is still? Posted: 05 Aug 2017 02:44 PM PDT Even after multiple patches and updates, the AI is just ridiculous! This game has so much potential to become a powerhouse of a civ game, but the basic AI is utterly useless. for example: The AI will often if not always offer you a deal and then say "I can't accept this." what? you're the one making the deal! Personally for me this completely ruins the game and really is silly and should've been fixed by now (it shouldn't have made it into the game in the first place.) Yes ik that civ v was also fairly buggy on release and that civ vi is way less buggy on release, however, civ v came out in 2010. civ vi came out last year, there's no excuse for a game made in 2016 to be "slightly" less buggy than a game made now 7 years ago. sorry if this rant-y its just I really wanna love this game, but every playthrough there seems to be a new bug cropping up and ruining the experience just a little more. should we put more pressure on the devs or are they not listening? Posted: 05 Aug 2017 04:34 PM PDT I've been playing Civ 5 for a few weeks, but can't finish a game as it "stops working" and crashes around 250 turns. Help with that would be appreciated, but really I want to know if I'm likely to have the same problem with Civ 6, and what other problems I'm going to encounter Many thanks for any replies [link] [comments]

[Civ VI] No more Sean Bean quote popups after researching tech and civics? Posted: 05 Aug 2017 12:51 AM PDT Since the summer update after around 50 turns I no longer get popups along with a quote read by Sean Bean. Is there an option I've missed to force enable/disable them? [link] [comments] |
