There is a bug right now with Pokecoins that come from gyms

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 01:16 PM PDT

[Question] Seriously, why can't I see who else is Q'd for a raid before I waste a pass?

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 11:47 AM PDT

This is basic MMO mechanics, and seems like a pretty huge and very frustrating oversight.

Edit: because people don't seem to get this. I don't care what you think the "proper" way to raid is, my question is WHY does the pass get used up when you join the room. You have a 2 minute wait. Many things can happen in 2 minutes, including pogo crashing, getting a phone call at the wrong time etc. Why not use up the pass AS you join the actual fight.

That's the issue here, and my question.

Let us upgrade our potions and revives to save space

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 10:12 AM PDT

I wish they would let us upgrade our potions into super potions and those into hyper etc. and also upgrade X amount of revives into a max revive so im not just throwing away 30+ revives at a time cause they are taking up so much space

So you're traveling from out of state to PoGO Fest? Here's what you need to know about Chicago and getting around.

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 03:22 PM PDT

Hello everyone, my name is Eddie and I will be you unofficial guide to, through, and around the beautiful city of Chicago. First off I feel the need to clarify one thing before I go on; and that is that downtown Chicago (where PoGO Fest will be) is NOT dangerous. I realize Chicago has a reputation for all the wrong reasons, but take it from someone who works and walks though downtown Monday-Friday, the most dangerous part of downtown Chicago is not looking at hourly parking prices prior to actually parking. I will try and keep this guide as short as possible and hopefully it becomes very helpful to some people.

  • Getting around the city: Yes, you can Uber, Lyft, or Taxi your way around wherever you need to go and that might be the smartest way to go if you're new to the city, but keep in mind that there are cheaper options. Chicago's public transportation system is called "CTA."; this includes both busses and subways (aka "The 'L'"). To get on a bus you have the option of paying with cash, to get on a train/subway you do not have that option. At many indoor stops you will see ATM-like machines where you can purchase a rechargable Ventra card. Website HERE. You can use this card on busses as well. You can also download the Ventra mobile app to keep track of the amount of funds remaining on your card as well as also refilling you funds. I've had the same card for years, but I do believe there are disposable paper cards for out-of-towners. Prices for busses and trains HERE.

  • Getting from the airport to downtown Chicago: If you're traveling from out of town I'm assuming you would need to stop at your hotel or wherever you're staying first. If you're staying at a hotel downtown, these instructions would still apply, maybe just the stop would be different. For the most part you can Google Maps your destination but for the sake of this being a complete guide, I'll briefly go over it.

If you are arriving at O'Hare International Airport, you will be taking the Blue Line and your stop will be Jackson. If you're arriving at the much smaller Midway International Airport, you will be taking the Orange Line and getting off......pretty much anywhere in the loop (the loop refers to downtown).

  • Parking: If you are driving to, or are renting a car in Chitown be prepared to pay more for parking than you ever have in your entire life. Chicago now has the highest parking rates in the US. For the sake of ease I suggest you park at a parking garage. If you're lucky enough to find parking on the street, be aware of how much money you put in the meter or how long you plan on being parked because you WILL get ticketed. I suggest you download the "Spothero" app to find you the cheapest parking garage rates in the area.

  • What are you going to eat?: The beauty of a large city is that there is no shortage of places to eat. I won't recommend any restaurants in specific because, well after all it would only be an opinion. But I will say that most places in The Loop are closed by 9 or 10. Some places are even closed by 5pm. For a late night dinner I would strongly suggest traveling about a mile north to River North (because it's just north of the river). If you're 21 or older, you also have a lot of bar options in River North.

  • Expected weather: As of right now on July 17th, 2017 the forecast is calling for rain all day Saturday for GO Fest. Keep in mind that umbrellas will NOT be allowed per the PoGO website. Judging by how Lollapalooza and similar events in Chicago are handled, there will be no exceptions. Personally, I hate wearing panchos so I will be packing sandals and a pair of swimming trunks in case it does rain hard. The weather in Chicago is very sporadic so I would not be surprised if rain is expected everyday and it never actually does rain, but it's always better to be safe than sorry.

  • What to do before and/or after Go Fest: Some of you might be in town for a few days and aren't really sure what to do. Here are a few things to consider:

The cubs are playing at home in Wrigley against the Cards Friday thru Sunday. Tickets can be expensive so plan accordingly.

Pokemon hunting at the Adler Planetarium and Navy Pier will be your two best options if you're going to be in or near downtown. And it's FREE.

Just walk around and get lost. There are SO MANY pokestops downtown that you can very easily fill up your inventory in like an hour. State Street in The Loop has a lot of shopping, as well as Michigan Ave just north of The Loop. Walk alongside Lake Shore Drive and admire the architecture and lakefront.

-Miscellaneous Tips: If you're on an escalator, stay on the right side. The left side is for moving traffic. People WILL tell you to move.

Look out for cyclists! Some streets in the Loop have dedicated bike lanes tucked in between a parking lane and the sidewalk. It sounds weird, I know but I've seen people get hit by a bicycle because they weren't paying attention. Also, cyclist tend to not obey the rules of the road.

Don't give money to every homeless person you see because you will see many. If you give money to everyone, you will leave Chicago very broke.

If you are traveling with a large group, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD please don't all walk side by side blocking the entire sidewalk. This really pisses off the locals.

Sorry this guide went a little longer than intended. If you have any questions about anything just leave a comment and I'll try my best to answer them. I can also add anything to this guide that's necessary.

[Idea] Gym to Gym Matchmaking for Raids

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 04:19 AM PDT

[idea] Niantic, please update the PoGo Plus for gyms!

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 05:43 AM PDT

I love the device and i find it very useful, but now that gyms have pokestops, we should be able to spin them as we do on regular one, or what is the perk of having a plus if I constantly need to open the App to check I'm not missing any? :(

[Idea] Allow switching pokemon between gym battles

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 11:29 AM PDT

I don't know if this truly counts as an "idea" since I doubt I'm the first one to suggest it, but please, Niantic, give us the option to quickly swap pokemon on the "next battle" screen when fighting in gyms. I really hate having to start the battle and take the first 2 hits before I can switch pokemon, and then be behind the curve in saving for a charge attack.

[Idea] How To Incorporate Stardust Back Into The Gym Reward System

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 07:47 PM PDT

Old System = 100 Coins/5000 Stardust

1 Coin = 50 Stardust

50 Coins = 2500 Stardust (Max Limit Per Day)

It seems rather simple for Niantic to just implement stardust at this rate along with the PokeCoins we get when our defending Pokemon return to us.

[Idea] If you have a gym badge highly leveled (say all the way to gold), you get notified about Raids at that Gym at a Much Larger Radius (say 25-50km).

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 10:02 AM PDT

For the most part; just see the title, but my reasoning is...as a rural player the closest gym is ~7km away. I can walk there in less than an hour reasonably enough; but I obviously can't see if there are raids or anything there unless I walk, bike or drive that way. Getting a notification (even outside of the app like when a mon drops out of a gym) that there's going to be a raid there would get me headed there immediately, but I can't reasonably check multiple times a day for raids. (I've participated in 4 raids [all solo] since the update.)

Today I faced the toughest Raid Boss ever.

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 07:34 AM PDT

It was a chilly morning, foretelling the doom that I would soon face.

On the way to drop my son off at daycare each morning, we drive around to all 6 of our small town's Pokemon Gyms. We get our 7-day Pokestop bonus, he catches a Teddiursa, and then we see that the last Gym has a Raid going.

My son likes to face Raid bosses even if there is no chance of beating it. So we've faced 4-star bosses before without breaking a sweat, knowing that we'll lose and be able to walk away with our heads held high. "At least we tried," he'd tell me.

But when I saw that 1-star Quilava boss, I knew something was wrong. There was a sinister feeling in the air, like that church had been transformed into something much much worse than a mere Pokemon Gym.

Even still, the Quilava is only 5085 CP, our Gyarados eats Fire Pokemon for breakfast, and its stomach is growling in anticipation. I joke with my son that there is no way we'll lose this battle, and he is excited too.

The battle starts, taking a bit too long for the "GO" to disappear, and I break out into a cold sweat. I'd heard rumors of a monstrous Pokemon so powerful that nobody had ever beaten it. The tales tell of how it slows down time as it approaches.

I shake it off when the action starts. We beat that Quilava in about 25 seconds, and my son shouts "YAY!!!" from the back seat. Then time kinda freezes, except the Raid countdown is still going.

At about 55 seconds left, the Quilava suddenly has full health again, and I fly into a frenzy. Gyarados chomps on him relentlessly, this time beating him a second time in under 20 seconds.

Then we watch as time runs out. And then time freezes...an eerie calm descends on us as we wait to see what happens.

I jump as my phone gives it's warning that the battery is at 15%, but then calm down again. I tell myself that this is just morning lag or network traffic, something normal.

Then the monster appears, and I know we are doomed. My son starts crying in the back seat. I try to comfort him but no words come out. The dreaded, unspeakable "Network Error" dropped down right in front of us!

I have no idea how long we were there after that. I remember waking up and seeing that old message telling us we were unable to beat the raid within the time limit. I dropped my son off in a kind of daze, and then returned home.

It was only when I got home that I had a notification of a screenshot saved. I must have taken a screenshot before I blacked out. Here it is, but it is not for the faint of heart: The Monster

Love PoGo, but the "AR" isn't AR at all

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 03:05 PM PDT

Am I the only person baffled at how Niantic can get away with calling Pokemon Go an "augmented reality" game? Don't get me wrong, I play a lot of Pokemon Go (currently level 33), and I love this GPS based game, but.... well it's just not an AR game.

A true AR game would actually be able to recognize the environment on the other side of the camera and augment the image with elements from the game. Pokemon Go doesn't do that at all. It just renders a 3D model of a Pokemon, fixes it in place with the gyroscope of the phone and overlays it on whatever is on the other side of the camera whether it's an actual landscape or the pad of my thumb. If you're not standing still the Pokemon just glides with you as you walk.

How is that augmented reality? That's just a not-so-fancy green screen effect. It's not even a big part of the game for most serious players. The "AR" feature is just a really gimmicky little side note that, in all honesty, made the game sound way cooler in the ads than it can ever really be in real life at this time.

Again, I love this game, but calling it an augmented reality game is just kinda silly. We don't even have the technology yet for a true world wide augmented reality game that people can play on their phones. For now such a thing is still science fiction.

[Suggestion] Gym daily streak

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 07:46 PM PDT

Give us a gym daily streak. Knock out six pokemon, the equivalent of one gym, and then you get 25 coins and 1000 stardust. On the 7th day, give us 50 coins and 5000 stardust. The coins would ignore the cap and the stardust would be to give us some more options for stardust.

Just an idea I thought of since I noticed that gym stagnation is back in force in my area.

[Discussion] I actually like the new gym and coin system.

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 05:58 AM PDT

I see a lot of people on here complaining about the amount of coins received from the gyms now and I think the new system is way better. I have never had the time to grind out 100 coins a day (10 gyms) with the previous system anyways. I would say I am between the level of serious and casual play especially over summer where I am not on campus. I have never had so many coins. Right now I can get 50 coins a day with putting in way less effort then I did in the past.
