[Discussion] Buddy Distances Really Don't Make Sense Now. A four minute raid could give you 600KM+ worth of buddy candy.

Posted: 07 Jul 2017 03:52 PM PDT

People have recommended reducing the buddy distances and now with raids it's essential. Catching a Ttar in a 4 minute raid after walking a larvitar for 120KMs is going to piss people off. Distances need to be at least reduced from 5/3/1 to 3/2/1. The raids have changed the balance of the games. I have 6 new additions to my top 12 since raids were introduced. When many people are catching a top 10 mon everyday the game has fundamentally changed. The buddy distances must change too. There is no need to make you walk 5KM for one candy. I even think 3KM is too much.

Edit- It's needlessly excessive. It doesn't keep the game balanced.

This is why Niantic doesn't care about the backlash

No Point in Raiding as a solo player.

Posted: 07 Jul 2017 06:31 AM PDT

Edit 2: Preface since it keeps coming up: What I mean by "solo player" is that I play the game alone. I don't have a group of people that play anymore that I can play with. I don't mean I want to only solo everything. It just means I'm a loser who has no friends.

This is a tiny bit of a rant, so bear with me.

As a solo player it literally makes no sense to even attempt to go to Level 3 or 4 Raids. I have gone time after time to Higher level raids and no one ever shows up. Sometimes I'll even join the lobby to see if there's people in the building I'm standing near are playing, but that's never the case. Not to mention this is the middle of uptown Toronto. Not some small rural town.

They added this system to increase cooperative play, but we're not allowed to know if there's anyone around to cooperate with before we try and take part in the cooperative play system. This is ass effing backwards. If you don't already have a group of people to play this game with you might as well not bother trying to do the higher level raids.

They really need to revisit this "cooperative play" system.

Just had to get that off my chest.

edit: Don't know why people keep assuimg this but I am in no way complaining about the fact that I can't solo level 4 raids. That's not what this is about.

This game desperately needs some form of in-game communication

Posted: 07 Jul 2017 09:12 AM PDT

I live in a town with nearly 2 dozen gyms which actively turn over regularly. However, nobody I know who used to play still does, and I don't know any of the active players in my town.

With all these gyms comes dozens of raid options per day, but the lack of a way to communicate makes doing them as a solo player nearly impossible. I'll wait 20-30 minutes at each raid for someone else to show up, and I don't know if it's because they go at a different time or just aren't doing the raids but I have yet to do a raid that wasn't just by myself.

Solo raids are fine for tier 1 and 2, but that means that it's impossible for players like me to do any tier 3 or 4 raids.

Assuming tier 5 raids will be much more challenging than even tier 4, there NEEDS to be an in game communicator to coordinate raids, or else other players like me will have absolutely no chance of completing these raids.

A local chat or even just an indicator that someone is waiting to do a raid at a gym would suffice, but the lack of a way to communicate makes these raids unplayable and gives players in groups a horrible advantage over solo players. I love the raid system but it will never be fair until a system like this is implemented.

Yes I've tried the local Facebook group but that's inactive and I have not found any discord chat for the town or anything. Communication needs to be enabled in game.

Today I saw not one but FOUR simultaneous tier 4 raids in my town including Snorlax and Tyranitar, but when I went to each one, there was nobody else in sight.

Serious question, has the "retry" button ever worked for anyone?

Posted: 07 Jul 2017 06:51 AM PDT

My boyfriend and I were talking about the "retry" button yesterday when we couldn't log in. It's popped up before, usually when I'm leaving a Wi-Fi enabled area. But the "retry" button never done anything except put me through the same nonsense. Not once.

Has anyone ever been able to get the "retry" button to actually do anything?

Increase the amount of streaks [Idea]

Posted: 07 Jul 2017 09:45 AM PDT

So I'm not sure if I'm alone in this, but what got me playing more regularly is the catch streak and the Pokestop streaks. If there was ever a day where I didn't really feel like going on a Pokewalk, I'd think about how I'd ruin the streak I have going if I didn't play. So I'd at the very least open up the app to catch something and hit up a Pokestop but usually I'd end up going on a solid walk.

Suggestions for different streaks:

-Consecutive days walking at least 1km (would really encourage people to keep exercising)

-Consecutive days winning a battle in a gym

-Consecutive days having at least one Pokemon in a gym

Thoughts?

FYI Ursaring is a very good alternative fighting attacker to Machamp

Posted: 07 Jul 2017 03:04 PM PDT

Ursaring doesnt benefit from STAB with fight type moves since he is a normal type but he does have a slightly higher attack stat than Machamp which will make him a viable fighting type attacker alongside Machamp. Also the fact that he is immune to all but 2 types (only weak to fighting type moves) will allow him to last longer during battles than Machamp, both have the same Stamina stat. Just a heads up to those of you who are unaware or forgot about this. So an Ursaring with Counter/Close Combat will be nearly as good of a fighting type attacker as Machamp. Ursaring will also perform well against Tyranitar, Snorlax, and Lapras with that moveset.

[Idea] To show that there are people raiding that mon, make the "gym being attacked" animation

Posted: 07 Jul 2017 04:32 PM PDT

That way, in crowded or far away places, you'll be able to tell if there are people playing the game nearby.

It also would be fairly simple to implement.

What do you think?

[Discussion] You know what would have been perfect for an anniversary? Evolved form event.

Posted: 07 Jul 2017 11:56 AM PDT

Think about it. A year has gone by. PoGo went up a level. And all the Pokemon have too. We could still see all the same Pokemon (so it's not overpowered) but much more likely to be evolved forms. We win because we get those sweet extra candies and more importantly, increased stardust. Niantic wins because they can actually sell those boxes as people burn through their ultra balls trying to catch the red circle Pokemon.

After a few dozen hours at a Machop nest and various raids, I've finally made a team of 6 Machamp with the right moves and have them all powered up

Posted: 07 Jul 2017 04:33 PM PDT

Just thought I'd give you a heads up since this can only mean that they'll be swapping out Tyranitar as a raid boss within 24 hours.

A year of Pokémon Go by the numbers

Posted: 07 Jul 2017 03:58 PM PDT

Serious question: Has anyone ever successfully clicked on the avatar to view medals/gym badges before clicking on the pokeball?

Posted: 07 Jul 2017 09:04 PM PDT

I haven't.

I will often times click on it repeatedly before I remember that they are located elsewhere. I understand the separation and think that it makes sense but I cannot get myself to instinctually click on it. Does anyone else do this too? Is there a better way for the app to be designed? At this point, i'm just trying to get this god damn post to 75 words. blah blah blah blah

Pokémon that turn a year old should get party hats

Posted: 07 Jul 2017 07:15 PM PDT

I just think it would be a nice touch to show that you've stuck around with Pokémon Go for a while, and it would be nice to see Niantic actually implement something worthwhile for the anniversary.

for all the pokeballs that we don't end up using after the bonus challenge for the raid, those balls should be converted into ultraballs and placed in our inventories

for all the pokeballs that we don't end up using after the bonus challenge for the raid, those balls should be converted into ultraballs and placed in our inventories

especially if you do 1 raid a day and even if you end up doing more, you are paying 100 coins out of pocket so this could be helpful for people who don't see that many pokestops

Could our two Niantic liasons make a weekly thread to address upcoming updates and player feedback and concerns?

Posted: 07 Jul 2017 09:11 AM PDT

I think the entire community would really appreciate Niantic actually making an effort to talk to the players.

Evolved Ampharos yesterday. That completes my Gen2 'dex(-unown). Time to take a break now.

Posted: 07 Jul 2017 09:53 AM PDT

http://imgur.com/a/vRlhY

Well, thats it. I caught 5 mareep, hatched 1(evolved this one as it was the only one with decent IV), and the rest of the candy was from walking. I have never seen an unown, and I doubt I ever will, just as i'm not going to book a trip to Japan, Europe, Mexico, or Australia anytime soon. Unown, to me, is so rare, theres no point in trying anymore. Im not going to keep logging in every day for a 1-in-a-million chance. I have completed it as best I can, and am considering it for all intents and purposes done. I see it just like beating the end boss of a game but not doing all the side quests.

And after the ripoffbox insult we all got yesterday, i think I'm going to take a break from this game for a while. It was a long journey, and for now, its over. Cheers!
