A proper "Exploration Update"

Posted: 07 Jul 2017 05:25 PM PDT

I play a lot of survival minecraft, I have a nice home there with a castle, a massive cathedral cut into the mountain, giant bridges and the like. Sometimes I like to go and explore away from where I've invested so much time, but I never feel there's any real incentive to travel far, far away.

Sometimes I might want some cacti for dye or jungle wood for that exotic feel, and I LOVE the idea of certain materials having a feeling of 'value' because they come from far away, but once you know where the nearest jungle is etc. you don't need to travel that far, and once you've got saplings you may as well grow your own jungle trees.

What I want is an update that gives a good reason to set out on long expeditions, a reason to use those new llama trains. My suggestion is this:

Very, very rare procedurally generated plants and animals. When you discover it, you get to name it.

Maybe it's just a single flower, maybe it's a whole field of them. But they're the only ones you'll ever find. In the entire world. Ever. So be very careful not to drop them in lava, and add them to your collection of rare, exotic plants and creatures from all over the world.

How cool would it be if the pet you had on a leash was literally the only one of its kind?

[PS4] Do trapped chests not work how they used to anymore?

Posted: 07 Jul 2017 05:57 PM PDT

I had a trapped chest on top of a block and a redstone torch on the back end of that block powering some redstone until you open the chest which would turn the redstone off and start the mechanism. Now it's not working? I have no idea why it's not putting power to the torch to turn it off? Have there been changes?
