Any tips on "shot calling" and general team strategy? Posted: 10 Jul 2017 01:48 PM PDT Most of the stuff I see here focuses on individual play and timings. Are there any video or text guides out there for general team strats (e.g., planning your timing windows, general strats on how and when to gank and push, preparing for rosh, when to use your smokes, etc.)? With my stack I usually play the five role and would love to get us more involved in having an actual game-plan to help us win, rather than 'playing it by ear' like we normally do. Let's say I'm a 2.5k player (I calibrated when MMR first released, but haven't played ranked since then, so maybe I'm a bit better now but you never know) and my stack calibrates between 3-5k. So we don't need elite reddit 9k scrub strats, more "beyond the basics" info. [link] [comments]
How do you deal with devastating losses? Posted: 10 Jul 2017 02:40 PM PDT I love this game, I really do. Nothing has compelled me to play in a serious fashion like it. But, not 10 minutes ago, this happened: https://www.opendota.com/matches/3305866326 I was the shadow shaman. I had a great lane, me and slark were able to nab a few kills early on, so I thought I'd pressure the other lanes a bit. That's where it went to shit. I can't actually tell when things went sour, but by 10 minutes in, I had both Windrunner and Sand King shouting because there were no ganks, and so I went to both lanes to try to help out, failing miserably both times. And during all this, Arc kept getting farmed and fed. By 20 minutes no two people on our team could kill him, by 30 minutes he could 1v5 us without breaking a sweat. I noticed I was dying too much, but it felt like there was nothing I could do, like every time I went to a teamfight or sometimes even left base I'd just blow up. Everyone on our team got mad and started harrassing each other, and that just messed up my mindset even more. That was a really disheartening game, as you can probably tell. It felt like there was nothing I could do past a point to stop the loss. So, I suppose my question to you comes in 3 parts: First, how the hell do you combat Arc Warden when your team is uncoordinated? Haha, this one is less important, because I'm sure there's loads of resources out there, which I'm sure to spend the next hour or so looking over. Secondly, how do you keep your team's hopes up in a losing game like this, to keep on fighting? I feel like if I'd been able to calm WR down we might have made a comeback early on, but asking her to calm down just made matters worse. Finally, this is a more personal question, how do you personally recover after those demoralizing games? Because right now I'm sort of just looking at the match analysis and feeling rather shitty. Oh, any analysis of my play would be greatly, tremendously appreciated too. :) [link] [comments]
What kind of educational dota content do you want to see? Posted: 10 Jul 2017 12:18 AM PDT Hey guys. My name's henry and I'm a 6k player from baltimore. I love dota a lot and always aspired to be pro but as I played more and more my hand got hurt worse and worse. I finally decided to stop playing until (if it) heals but I want to make content for the dota 2 space since I love the game so much but can't play. I have been doing some replay analysis for free in another thread here, mostly as a thought experiment to see if I still like talking about dota enough to make videos (I do). I figured I'd ask the community what they want. We are lucky to have have people like d2bowie making fantastic videos on analyzing/understanding pro gameplay and purge making great gameplay + patch notes focused content. I still think there's room for more content (and hope you agree). I was hoping I could offer different perspectives on the game in terms of improving heroes, mechanics, and commentary on the pro scene in terms of meta, strategy, drafts, and team dynamics. Anyways I hope it's okay to make this kind of thread, if you guys have any ideas I'd be really happy to hear. I plan on trying my hand at making content either way, but I'd really like to hear your thoughts on what the /r/learndota2 community needs. [link] [comments]
Tips for blinking out of Euls/Phase Shift/Astral Posted: 10 Jul 2017 04:08 PM PDT I've seen people blink out of situations like Pudge Rot, Disruptor Ulti, Skywraith Ulti. I always thought that it was impossible to do so, just because of the constant damage over time. Are there any tips on doing this, or how people do it so fast? I've tried shift queue but it doesn't seem instant. [link] [comments]
Resources targeted toward spectators? Posted: 10 Jul 2017 07:53 PM PDT Hey all, I'll be attending the International this year. The thing is, I don't know much about Dota 2. I might install and play a few games, but are there any resources targeted towards spectators trying to learn more about the game? Most of the things I've found have been targeted more toward players. [link] [comments]
[Laning Analysis] Shadow Shaman + Monkey King Safelane vs Solo Offlane Puck Posted: 10 Jul 2017 03:58 PM PDT I realize this is a buttload of text and most ppl won't bother reading but maybe someone is feeling frisky. It's at least nice to get my thoughts on paper. Here is the match. We're looking at high mmr pubs from a support perspective in the laning phase. I don't think we're really interested in anything past 10-12 min. We're trying to figure out very small details on how to lane correctly. SS and MK are Radiant, Puck is Dire. This is a 7k SS (not a pro) with players around 5k-7k. MK is 7k, yol, former pro. Puck is 7k (not a pro). https://www.opendota.com/matches/3303935711 https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3303935711 /u/Mapex_ wrote the following and I answered with comments in bold. I'll try to finish watching to 10 min into the game when I get some more energy. I just want to point out one of the reasons why SS tped at the start and warded the lane was because they have no idea what the lanes are going to be. The enemy team has a CW, Mirana, and Puck who can all be offlane. I also find it interesting that SS went 1 set of tangos (no sharing with mid), 1 clarity, tp, 2 obs, 1 sentry. alright so I watched the first 10 mins and from what I can tell I think that the rhasta is a little bit out of his depth in this game. It reminds me a lot of how I normally play in the lane which is why i made that post in the first place xd. I think the first thing he did was pull the lane straight away without looking at his own wave and they ended up with a double wave hitting them 1 min in which they obviously couldn't clear so they ended up back at the t1 and mk had to tank quite a few creep hits. I somewhat disagree with you. Yes, wave #2 is under the tower and yes MK did have to tank a little. However, he has a PMS this early meaning he can actually tank a lot more in order to reposition the creep wave equilibrium to where he wants it to be. Wave #3 is essentially in the perfect position right outside the T1 tower for SS/MK. The only thing now is that we know that puck has a lot more regen then SS (as well as a wand). I think the MK knows he may have to tank creeps and that's why he went stout and even PMS. This allows him the freedom to tank around/under tower to get better equilibrium. He zoned puck out after that which was pretty good but he still got level 2 pretty early which meant it was pretty hard to kill him. He also spends quite a long time trying to zone out the puck who had phase shift and more regen that him which was kinda weird. So the thing here that I think SS could have possibly done better is to soak his level 2 from the lane aka from MK. He obviously cannot pull for level 2 since the creep wave #3 and 4 are at a very good equilibrium. He does try to walk around and zone the Puck. Notice he doesn't use his Q just to get damage off. He is conserving his mana because he only had 1 clarity which he used early and he needs to conserve mana for shock into shackles (he is still level 1 at this point). He wants Puck to use his orb which at level 1 has a 14 sec cd. This is a key point for supports. Often times a solo offlaner will have a key escape spell. You need to absolutely play around these in the laning phase. A big example is Faceless Void. The first few levels you are absolutely trying to harass him to bait out his timewalk because it's this window where his timewalk is on cd that you as a support and your core in a dual safelane have an opportunity to kill. Level 1 timewalk is a 24 sec cd. That is a huge kill window at level 1. In this case, Puck has a shorter 14 sec orb/jaunt cd. Notice at 1:29 in the game the Puck orbs to cancel SS's clarity. Soon after SS is pinging MK to go because he knows there is a tiny window that Puck is still level 1 and has orb/jaunt on cd … so they might be able to kill. The only thing is Puck soaks his level 2 phase shift while SS tries to chase Puck. I think he mb should have just pulled or something to get level 2. After that he sees clockwork and runs towards him a little bit like he thought they could kill them but he was still only level 1 so i think it's pretty unlikely they kill him. Note at 2:16, if SS is level 2 with shackles (SS is still level 1, Puck is level 2, and MK is level 3), Puck could very well be dead if he misplayed slightly with his phase shift, orb, jaunt. Shock, shackle, boundless strike, and 1 right click does it I think. Mk ended up getting a double kill so i guess it's worth but i think if he didn't run forward or he ran into his wave then he could have been alright, puck would have most likely used orb anyway to catch him (like he actually did). He tanks a creep wave as well when he buys his boots when he has no regen so he ends up on 430 hp and he can't really do anything at that point since it's night time vs a clock who'll just kill him if he finds him. Oh yeah i forgot that visage just kills him, i don't think he would have been able to do anything with more hp anyway but maybe he lives and gets nuke off if he was close to max. Tbh it's more of the same up until 10 mins and just a spiral of bad events leading him to being very behind in the laning stage. As i said i feel like this is very similar to how alot of my games go (not necessarily dying 4 times but getting far behind in levels and gold). I think he was just trying to do too much and should have prioritised getting himself more levels earlier. Anyway, let me know what you think and do you wanna move this to discord msgs or something? I feel like reddit dms are a little clunky I stopped around 4 min for now. I'll try to comment on the rest later. [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Jul 2017 07:07 PM PDT Any tips or suggestion early game to win mid? Any hero that will be good using ember against? How should I lane - Do I balance last hitting with harass to win the lane? I do ember safelane but I want to learn how to properly mid with him (Faster level 6 & 10 + considerably more farm) [link] [comments]
How Do People Get So Many Battle Pass Levels? Posted: 10 Jul 2017 08:25 AM PDT I hope it's OK to post about it. I've seen some guides on how to get these levels faster but completing quests or campaign will hardly get me to 500+ or even 2000+ level. Are those super high levels basically purchased through the game with $ or is there a super sneaky way to gain some levels? I've been playing a few games a day for a few weeks now and I'm just level 13... [link] [comments]
Has anyone taken notes from Day9s learn dota streams? Posted: 10 Jul 2017 06:46 PM PDT Just wondering if anyone has jotted down notes/takeaways during the streams they have currently done? I have one set like this, but hoping maybe some other people have additional tidbits that really stood out. ~~~~ Carries: 1. Ensure last hits 2. Keep creep equilibrium 3. Help zone offlaner (Threaten) 4. Pull neutrals or creeps towards if needed. Midlane: 1. Ensure last hits AND denies 2. Control runes with wave pushes and/or aoe nukes 3. Keep hp/mana close to full 4. Teleport to turn fights/ganks (Boots and Bottle then TPscroll) 5. If losing lane, request ganks or rotate when power spiked. Offlane: 1. Trade effectively with supports 2. Mess up creep equilibrium 3. Gain experience (Gold if you can) 4. Contest last hits/deny 5. Jungle if getting zoned out Support: 1. Zone offlaner 2. Stack large camps 3. Stack other camps and/or secure runes 4. Itemize for team based objectives 5. If you cant do much more in lane, rotate and/or babysit other lane Roaming: 1. Impact enemy lanes with ganks, slaps to annoy or disorientate them 2. Impact enemy economies by stealing runes, breaking potions, breaking camp spawns and destroying wards 3. Ward while roaming 4. If unsuccessful then transition to normal support [link] [comments]
How to solo offlane with legion commander? Posted: 10 Jul 2017 06:00 PM PDT The advice I'd found says to start with a poor man shield and one set of tangos. At level 1 try to pull the first creep wave from behind their T1, through the jungle to meet your second wave in front of your offlane tower. Go 4,1,1,1 skill build at level 7. Get phase boots, and windlace so you can get duels without a blink dagger. Then buy blink dagger and either shadowblade/blademail/ or armlet. Probably need to courier out a few salves and clarities before the shrine is available at 5 minutes. Does anyone have any more advice? Edit: Does anyone have any youtube videos of solo offlane LC. Most videos I found were dual offlane LC + a support. [link] [comments]

Anyone know where this LC build came from? Posted: 10 Jul 2017 04:40 PM PDT In one of my pubs I came across this player https://www.dotabuff.com/players/163030766, now you may notice something odd, he spams LC and his build is brown boots, win lace into a ROA and deso. Needless to say we lost this game but I am wondering what on earth has got this player to go this build since it isn't something any sane person who know what a legion commander is would go. Any help explaining this player's mind set to me would be very helpful since all I can do is keep looking back on his profile and laugh while wondering how he ever wins games. [link] [comments]
How could I have itemized better as Sven in the following matches? Posted: 10 Jul 2017 04:30 PM PDT I just lost my last 2 games and I am worried because I can not see why I lost. This were games where my team had a pretty rough start and I could not recover. I built a linkens vs a lc and halberd vs Ursa, but were those the best items? The matches are https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3305793972 and https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3305937885 Also if you guys have any tips for Sven in general that would be great. [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Jul 2017 04:28 PM PDT Hey I just tried to play gyro in midlane with magic damage build. I think this build is really legit, I always buy veil and it works well with rocket barrage + the spell amp talent, the enemy just disappear once u cast this spell on them. Here is my recent games, I know I'm just a 3k scrub but pls give it a try ;D [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Jul 2017 11:44 AM PDT I see a lot of high MMR players do that. I suppose it is to cancel the attack animation. I am trying to emulate that but don't really know if I'm improving. I noticed that they move around a tiny bit and turns a bit then attacks. Wouldn't it be better to a-click at the right time? Thank you. [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Jul 2017 11:22 AM PDT I never really liked the items on heroes other than invoker, when do you actually go for it? It gives you some attack speed, not too much. Not a lot of xp, and you get 200 gold every 100 seconds. To regain the gold you spent on it, u need to use it 11 times, meaning 1100 seconds, taking 18.3 minutes, and thats if u use it every time its comes online immidietly. The item basically adds 120 gpm, a little of xpm, and minor attack speed. So, why would you buy it? and when? [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Jul 2017 05:06 AM PDT Also what do you do when you have no place in map to farm i.e enemies will gank if u go to your own jungle or try farming lane [link] [comments]

Posted: 10 Jul 2017 01:47 PM PDT I'm at 2400 MMR and can't seem to move anywhere. I'm mostly a core support, but switched to playing more BS/clinkz/etc. Love dazzle/cm/rubick and all of them, but can't seem to win games alone with them. Idk, I always feel like it is my hero choices that are losing games. Anyone willing to help me out? Bad & Bougee (east Coast) [link] [comments]

| Posted: 10 Jul 2017 12:49 PM PDT Decided I wanted to try Broodmother. Kinda feel bad for the people that I'm gonna end up queueing with since I'm probably going to be hot garbage for a while. I've tried asking if my team minds if I pick Brood since I need practice just to let them know I'll probably not be great, but that seems to be a recipe for a bunch of no's. So I guess if I want to learn her I'm just gonna have to strap in, mute everybody, and draft her anyway? Btw I've played her in bot matches but I'm beginning to feel like I can't actually get any better with her because of how bots play, not to mention they always dual lane with me offlane which would force me to go mid which isn't what I want to do. So with that out of the way, couple questions:
Other than all that, any tips or things I should probably be aware of with her? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Jul 2017 12:15 PM PDT Is there any website i can check to look for amateur tournaments or open qualifiers of bigger tournaments? I usually check Faceit but there aren't a lot of featured competitions so... Sometimes i check ESL, too. [link] [comments]
| Don't Forget About The Supports Posted: 10 Jul 2017 07:13 AM PDT Recently someone commented on me having level 35 and having only 93 commends, then making an assumption that I must be a cancerous/toxic player. The truth is that I play supports 90% of the time and people rarely commend supports... Go 20/3/10 with any hero = instant 'commend x' spam. Go 3/0/80 as a support = nothing. Make sick plays, ward, gank, counter gank, smoke, deward, save lives = nothing. No wonder nobody wants to play supports if nobody pays attention and/or praises good playing supports.
