This game -NEEDS- stricter punishment against people that ruin games on purpose! Posted: 06 Jul 2017 04:24 AM PDT EDIT: Apparantly, this is a rather big issue and the playerbase agrees. Can we finally have a response from Blizzard regarding the matter? The game is more toxic than ever, we know you're reading this. Please inform us. Because usually these types of threads are met with some suspicion, here's an example of some dude that just wasted 25 minutes of my life. All I can imagine for the problem is the fact that we have a Tassadar support instead of an actual healer (pretty sure this is the issue because he made sure to regularly ping Tassadar...). Tough luck, shit happens, deal with it. Our comp is pretty functional without and we definitely have potential to win this. HOWEVER, my new friend over here made very fucking sure we didn't stand a chance. He was sitting right there, occasionally in soak range, behind towers, the entire game. What this means is that the automatic AFK detection doesn't trigger. We literally played a 4v5 here. Not with a bot (because special snowflake over here made sure we didn't get one of those). Completely helpless. So at some point we all decided to make this last as short as possible and wait at base, but even then, it took 15 minutes ( + draft, + queue) for this rubbish game to end. Fun Fact: AFK detection does trigger after sitting in base for a bit, chatting, and walking around, and taunting and stuff. It does, however, not trigger if you don't give a single input command for 8 minutes but sit near minion waves... This guy had, over his last 20 unranked games, 12 losses. 7 of those were in "suboptimal" compositions, whilst he had 0 wins with those (and you and I all know that basically everything goes in this game). I can only infer that this was probably not the first time, nor the last, that this guy decided to bomb out a game for no reason. What just adds salt to the wounds is that this guy is already silenced, so there's probably nothing reports do to affect him whatsoever... We need more strict punishment on people that are willing to actively ruin the fun of other players. This is a silenced player deliberately throwing game because he disagrees with the draft. THIS CANNOT BE OKAY. This game is in UD, but in Ranked it also happens. Griefing should not be an accepted/tolerated way to play this game, and it should at some point be punished with temp. bans! The reporting system is not doing its job at all. This game ended with me and 3 teammates, who were quite friendly and understanding, by the way, props to them, all quitting the game. Mister Dehaka though, went on to the next game to assert his alpha position in the pack. Asshole 1, Players 0. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Jul 2017 08:47 AM PDT My take on a Zalandari Dinomancer Rexxar skin, as suggested by /u/TheManaStrudel. Super muscle orcs and dinosaurs are...not my strong points...so there's some questionableness, but I hope it entertains. Copious references used from any and all official Rexxar art. Previous piece: Azmodan, Lord of Virtue Any and all suggestions for other skins/feedback are welcome! [E] Apparently I can't format. Fixed the awfulness. [link] [comments]

Just a reminder that Johanna's Condemn is still bugged. Posted: 06 Jul 2017 03:36 PM PDT Johanna on release, whenever she used Condemn, would always pull the enemy within her Condemn to the closest to her. However, for awhile it's to the point where if the enemy is near the border of her condemn they won't be pulled in as far, and this is not how the ability is intended to work. It should always pull the enemy close as possible, just as it did on release. I believe it's been fixed in the past only to be bugged again later on. Similarly Chen went through similar issues with his Flying Kick where it wouldn't always put you in front of the target you used Flying Kick on, but the community continually brought it up. So, why aren't we doing the same with Johanna? Her ability is bugged, therefore it should be fixed. I don't understand why Blizzard hasn't done this by now. If they haven't found a solution or believe it should work the way it is now, then OK, but it'd be nice if we could get their stance on Condemn. [link] [comments]

Gank vs. Soak: an EXP analysis Posted: 06 Jul 2017 09:13 PM PDT Hey guys! I can be a little obsessed with numbers, and the fact that I didn't really know the digits about in-game leveling started to bother me. So I decided to do a little research on the matter. The question is the following: in a given moment of a match, is it a good idea to trade a minion wave for a kill? In other words: when can I abandon my lane to gank an enemy hero?
It might get a little long, so TL;DR: If 1 level ahead:
If 2 or more levels ahead:
If behind:
If balanced:
Ok, now to some more depth!
First of all, credit where credit is due: a couple of graphs by /u/d07RiV were crucial to me. More specifically here: https://www.reddit.com/r/heroesofthestorm/comments/3m2kow/experience_tips/cvchs0r/
It all boils down to some key information:
Kill exp_____ Kill exp is 300 + 50 per level of the dying hero. Or 50 * (enemyLvl + 5).
Underdog modifier_____ The underdog modifier works from -4 to +4 level difference. It doesn't apply in steps; the progress in each level also counts. So even if both teams are at level 6, the modifier still applies. It will only be 0 if both teams have the exact same amount of experience. Numbers are as follows:
Minion exp progression_____ Soaking experience scales with time, though I'm not sure whether it's linear like the underdog modifier or in steps each minute (every 2 waves). Anyway, works like this:
This means that melees start the match as the most valuable, but as the minutes go by the ranged ones begin to gain in value. After 13 minutes ranged minions become more valuable. The wizards are always between the other two.
Wave exp vs. Kill exp The actual conclusion can be seen in this spreadsheet (you can make a copy to mess with it): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mMtVgvzuNA-KpP7i-jgO1q6rXN3--NLjIO71sr7tSIU/edit?usp=sharing
Here I have sheets for the kill exp in each level, the average exp based on the difference, and minions exp minute by minute. But the work is done at the "What Do?" sheet. It basically compares the avg kill exp and the wave clear exp, and returns which one is higher at every minute and level difference. You can then change the level in the yellow cell to see how it works out at each level.
CONCLUSIONS Considering that all the numbers are right, it really struck me how well balanced the system seems to be. It works wonderfully: at the early game, teams should focus on soaking exp, and start the TFs after the first meaningful talents. Once they get their ults, they should still force TFs in order to either stay ahead or close the gap. Teams that snowballed ahead must stay quiet and soak away, otherwise getting wiped could lose them both the advantage and the game.
That's why I love the numbers... Makes me really appreciate the work that the devs put on the game!

Malthael's tormented souls is what changes him from balanced to broken Posted: 06 Jul 2017 02:17 PM PDT It turns an "assassin" into a tanky initiator who does massive aoe damage. If you go with Last Rites, Malthael feels balanced (even a little weak). Tormented Souls has won me nearly every teamfight I've used it in because it prevents the enemy tanks from doing their job. It really needs an armor reduction. [link] [comments]
Hey Blizz, 5-man TL stacks don't need leaver penalties! Posted: 06 Jul 2017 07:38 AM PDT Weird thing happened to us yesterday. We were playing a TL match as a 5-man, and about 20 minutes in one of our friends lost connection and dropped. The game ended before he could get back, and we found ourselves playing QM because he had been flagged as leaver. Which begs the question... why? It's a 5-man stack. Leavers are bad when you play with randoms because they ruin your game and might ruin other people's games, but in a 5-man stack I know the guy, I choose to play with the guy, so please let us re-queue for TL together! We're not gonna ruin any random person's game, we're already grouped up! [link] [comments]
Forgett about Graymane shark skin, I think Anub'arak would be better for a shark skin. Posted: 06 Jul 2017 05:54 AM PDT In my opinion anub'arak as a shark would be way way better than graymane as shark. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Jul 2017 11:40 AM PDT I think it's important to present toxicity issues and losing to players way before they start playing the game. A tutorial situation that drops you in the middle of a losing situation will help teach new players. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't expect this to solve every case of poor player-experiences. However, I think exposing players to how toxicity affects this team game can go a long way. For starters, putting the player in a situation where they're losing/going to lose will do wonders to fixing attitude issues. Whether people realize it or not, several players have this idea that losing games should never happen, which causes tilt, frustration, and bad behavior. Speaking statistically this is simply impossible: the reality of competitive games with a winner and a loser is that you will lose games. Players need to become okay with losses. Additionally, being in a losing scenario with an uncooperative teammate will show players how demoralizing and crippling toxicity can be to the experience. The AI teammate griefing in chat, and then refusing to participate will severely hinder the players ability to turn the losing situation around, and will only exacerbate the issue. This should give some players perspective on how awful it is to be on the receiving end of all of that. This is just a really quick write-up, but I feel like it has potential. I'd really like to hear what you guys think. I'll reword some of the hasty writing after class and errands today. edit: as /u/callmetenno pointed out -- adding a tutorial for reporting at the end of the match will show players how the whole system works, and will hopefully foster good reporting in future games. Posted: 06 Jul 2017 10:27 AM PDT Self sustain and creep regen/move speed. Utility in team fights with maw, higher pvp damage minions, etc? Her new kit is obviously more in line with her class but I still miss the old kit ! [link] [comments]
Suggestion: Make Ancestral heal Regar 50% less when cast on himself. Posted: 06 Jul 2017 06:06 AM PDT In the current state, Regar 1v1 is so dumb, you have Ancestral and Cleanse but you can't use all those abilities. It just feels not fair. Maybe this ult used on himself should be less effective, but I think it should heal him for some ammount at least. [link] [comments]
Zagara's Bile Drop Quest Should Be Lowered Posted: 06 Jul 2017 10:59 AM PDT The quest completes at 20 stacks. Its a slow moving telegraphed ability that is easy to dodge. Completion of the quest is kinda comp dependent– against melee heroes that clump up– otherwise you almost never complete it. Last time i completed it the team was at lvl 20. Even if i was bad at completing it, should it really be such a late game talent? Yay or Nay? [link] [comments]
I was bored and decided to look up the Voice Actors. (Shit post) Posted: 06 Jul 2017 06:48 PM PDT Knew most of them, but had no idea who Nika Futterman (Zagara) is. Turns out she sang the "give it to me baby line" from Pretty Fly for a White Guy and I'm just losing it imagining her yelling this at Abathur. "Request. Illogical." Does anyone else want a Broken Shore Varian skin? Posted: 06 Jul 2017 07:23 PM PDT Before you ask, I mean his appearance prior to becoming a 10,000 piece jigsaw puzzle. I would definitely use a Varian skin without the huge pauldrons and cape and maybe a few dings in his armor. It wouldn't be a big change, but Artanis has a similar skin with minimal differences from his default. [link] [comments]

Can we have an updated list of all QM Rules? Posted: 06 Jul 2017 02:42 AM PDT QM Rules are scattered all over previous patch notes and very old posts (some dated 2014), so it's hard for anyone to be aware of all rules and this can lead to some confusing situations (e.g. new players might not understand why they see a Tyrande or a Sonya on the enemy team and no support/warrior on theirs). The best list I could find was this http://heroesofthestorm.gamepedia.com/Quick_Match but some rules are missing (e.g. distinction between Healers and Support-ish heroes) and I'm not even sure if all those are still applied. I'd really like to see an official post about all current QM Rules, please. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Jul 2017 08:53 AM PDT I began thinking recently about Tyrande's owls, and more specifically; how fat they might be. I ain't a math tho, so it's just spitballing, and I'd appreciate anyone who could more accurately help me figure out this most important and relevant conundrum. I am not math Now, to start off, I looked at the Owl on Tyrande's splash art. A Kaldorei Elf is taller than a human, I am told. A female night elf averages about 7 feet tall. I assume the owl in Tyrande's splash to be her own owl. Therefore in her own care, thus subject to her own dietary arrangements and exercise. I approximate them at about 3 feet in height, give or take slightly either way by about a third of a foot. Your average great horned owl averages around about 2 feet in height, and due to the fact Tyrande is taller than a human, but the Owl in her splash seems to retain the average height correlation to a human, I made height adjustments that I find suitable. A quick glance at the Owl in flight made me gauge the wing length at about 5.5 feet, however this wouldn't be truly accurate in keeping with the actual height of the owl, but if the information I found so far is true, Tyrande's owl has an abnormally small wingspan. Flying, I'm told, is very demanding from an energy expense standpoint. When Tyrande casts her owl in-game, it flaps its wings consistently to maintain flight, it does not glide (which is less demanding.) Owl's have a global range in their travel. I went into a custom game as Johanna (normal human being, tall, but otherwise standard) on Dragon Shire to attempt to gauge the length of the map, in order to determine the velocity and MPH of the Owls, to attempt to get a better understanding of it's calories burned flying across the map. I was unable to do so because I am not intelligent, and I realized attempting to gauge the length was too difficult for my tiny brain to comprehend on account of the buildings and heroes not properly scaling with the environment, so I gave up on that. Owls have a high metabolism which further accentuates the issue. Night Elves use their owls as spies and as guards, which seems to imply a fairly demanding lifestyle for the animals. Owl's are carnivores, and as a result, are likely to have a very heavy diet, calorie wise. Given the nature of their lifestyle under the ownership of the Night Elves, the distance in which Tyrande's owl is capable of moving, and its size, I have come to this conclusion; Tyrande's owls are not fat, but they are, however, presumably fed generously on account of their assigned tasks. I would like to figure out the proper numbers behind their diet, speed, and size, however, so if anyone could help me with that, it'd be most appreciated. [link] [comments]
