As of right now, The Subspace Emissary's Worlds Conquest is no longer the world's longest fanfic. Posted: 06 Jul 2017 07:31 PM PDT Now I know what some of you might be asking, what exactly is The Subspace Emissary's Worlds Conquest and why should I care? Well first let's backtrack and explain the origins and impact that this fanfic has had to explain why this is so important. In 2008, the next game in the series created by Mashiro Sakurai Super Smash Bros was released for the Nintendo Wii known as Super Smash Bros Brawl or SSBB for short. The game was known for being a fighting game featuring a roster with popular Nintendo characters and some third party characters as well including Sonic The Hedgehog and Solid Snake. SSBB was the first of the series to include a story mode known as the Subspace Emissary, in which a evil force threatens the different worlds that the characters reside in and it's up to them to join together and defeat it. The game was very popular, selling hundreds of units just quickly after it launched and helped satisfy fans and add many more to support the series. One of the longtime fans of the series and Nintendo as a whole decided to show his love and to help improve his English by writing a Fanfic about the game that was also a sequel to a Fanfic that he had made prior known as The Bond of Aura which he is currently rewriting but the last chapter was uploaded in November of last year. So it's unknown when he will continue rewriting so it's safe to say that it's on a hiatus as of right now. The Fanfic that he made was called, you guessed it- The Subspace Emissary's Worlds Conquest! Starting in March of that year and the last update as this is being written was on October of 2016. The story is about the main character of the last story that the author made, Chris as he and his Lucario team up with Master and Crazy Hand as they travel to different worlds based off of Nintendo games and recruit the roster of Melee and Brawl to combat the main threat of the story mode for SSBB. But as the story progresses the cast grows bigger as characters from Smash 4 are thrown into the mix, the worlds they travel to now being a mix of Nintendo's games and other companies as well like SEGA, Square Enix, Konami and etc. Soon the Fanfic became infamous for how long it was, gaining attention from Kotaku, Buzzfeed, and even GAMEINFORMER and Guinness World Records. It was the testament to how passionate someone can be about something that they liked and I find that to be very inspirational. Sadly, as the title of this post said. The number of words of the Fanfic: 4061k+ were out classed by that of another Fanfic known as Ambience: A Fleet Symphony. Which has surpassed The Subspace Emissary's Worlds Conquest in overall length at 4,061,145 words, becoming the world's longest piece of fanfiction. I wanted to check on the internet how to, but I think it'll be funnier if I don't know which characters are left. The Top Ten Smash 4 Sets of PGR v4 Posted: 06 Jul 2017 09:27 AM PDT Barring some extraordinary circumstance, we now know every one of the PGR v3's top 50 players. Let's start talking about the best sets. This is a discussion that comes up constantly - how many times do we see a hype ending to an excellent set and impulsively say "that's the best one this season?" It's also a great way to refresh ourselves on what was inarguably the craziest, most unpredictable season Smash 4 has had yet. The following is my shoddy attempt at a top 10; most of them are my preferences, and a few (which I still think are excellent) were rediscovered when I realized how big an impact they've had. Please list your best 10 or any suggested corrections below - maybe we could get a pretty definitive thing going! Anyway, in no particular order: 1. Shuton v. MKLeo, Winners Finals MSM 91 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qaAmc5ZELo It's the set so hype it broke the stream. Leo would later be 3-0'd in Grand Finals by Shuton, but this nailbiter set shows some incredible decisions and quick thinking from both players. Shuton uses his down b's super armor in several key moments; Leo edgeguards like a fiend and pulls off several amazing f-airs; Shuton racks on damage with Elegant-level combos. Just an awesome set with an awesome ending. 2. Kameme v. Leo, top 32 Frostbite https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mkrzvyEGSQ&t=2s Another Leo set, this time as Marth, but not quite as close. Kameme's Mega Man is absolutely on fire for the first two games - he gets a kill from the infamous z-drop footstool combo, as well as some amazing edgeguards. Basically the only time this season that Leo got bodied in tournament by anyone but ZeRo, which is impressive in and of itself. 3. ESAM v. HIKARU top 32 losers Civil War https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oT0yHZnm3WM HIKARU lands several ding dong combos that essentially come out of nowhere. The skill he shows in a matchup many say DK loses is really incredible - ESAM keeps up, but a game 4 switch to Samus fails to do the trick against a Japanese hidden boss with the world behind him. Game 3 is hype as HELL. 4. ZeRo v. Ally Losers Finals Genesis 4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkWJ-28cC90&t=1027s ZeRo and Ally have had many sets this season (ironically, none at Civil War), and picking the best of them is difficult. But one of the finest sets this season period is their encounter at Genesis 4, where ZeRo switches to Cloud in a desperate attempt at making it to Grand Finals. As with almost every set between these players, it goes to game 5; by the end they're so neck and neck that it could only end with a randy SD from ZeRo. 5. Tsu v. ZeRo Grand Finals Frostbite 2017 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fv8uX_DR8BM A good contender for best set of the year (and incidentally, one of the most-viewed Sm4sh sets on Youtube). After an unprecedented and failed switch to Captain Falcon during Winners Finals, ZeRo 3-1's Tsu and heads into a nailbiting final set. What is there even to say about this one? Tsu pulls off amazingly clutch stocks - at one point in the second set, ZeRo tries a last-ditch recovery to the opposite ledge from underneath Smashville; Tsu simply looses his aura sphere and ZeRo dies from across the stage. In the last game Tsu pulls an amazing read to upsmash and almost wins the tournament, but ZeRo's immaculate DI clutches it out. I remember watching this set as it happened, my face slowly soaked with sweat, wondering how either player could possibly win when they were both playing so well. 6. Elegant v. Nairo, top 16 Winners Nairo Saga https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJKcgcrGQtY&t=176s Elegant's set with Nairo was undoubtedly one of the best ones at this saga. Elegant takes games 1 and 4 with incredible edge guards, and keeps it dead even in every game with 60% combos and consistent perfect shields. Eventually Nairo is forced to camp his way to victory, a sentence I didn't think I'd ever say about him. Just perfect play from both competitors, and marks the second time Elegant has come this close to upsetting a top 5 player (the other time being MKLeo at Genesis 4). 7. ZeRo v. Zenyou Winners Semis Genesis Saga https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uz9uwLz9qow&t=749s Zenyou has a 2-1 lead by game 3 of this set, which is still pretty unusual against ZeRo if you're an unranked player. (And this was before Civil War!) His combo to finish game 3 is rightfully famous (and an exact replica of a combo ANTi pulled on ZeRo at TBH5), but the rest of the set is straight-up incredible - Zenyou is robot-level precise in his execution of what have since been called Zenyou Combos, and ZeRo pulls out an unexpected victory in game 4 through insane usage of Diddy's flip kicks. As usual, it's most fun to watch ZeRo when he's got a hill to climb. 8. Nairo v. ZeRo Winners Finals Momocon 2017 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddk4YxitrA8 What makes this set so special? Well, for one, it's the first time Nairo has beaten ZeRo since MLG 2015, and since then (and after) he has mostly received 3-0's every time they meet. Nairo and Leo are two players ZeRo usually has a perfect read on, but here Nairo is just too much - all his grabs land, all his ladder combos kill, he lands several crazy flip kick spikes, and frequently gets out of ZeRo's combos through ingenious use of ZSS's dair. As an unabashed Naifu this was pretty sick for me. 9. Nairo v. Fatality: Winners Quarters Civil War https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RvZWiWaW0Y As the final set to feature Nairo, we have one of the craziest upsets at Civil War. Something happened to Fatality between Super Smash Con 2016 and Civil War. His placings were quiet and mostly unremarkable; for a while it seemed like his potential as a top 8 mainstay was never going to be realized. But this set was the second major victory Fatality scored over a rival at the tournament, the 1st being Komorikiri; in this set he is all over Nairo, executing excellent footstool combos he would use for the rest of the tournament and finishing game 5 with a knee. There are accomplishments I'm prouder of Fatality for getting this season, but this set remains the most fun I've had watching him in a long time. 10. Locus v. ESAM Losers 7ths Dreamhack Austin 2017 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P26naXJSRe4 This one begins with a 2-stock from Locus, forcing ESAM to switch to Samus and ultimately take the set. Locus executes some simply incredible Ryu work, landing jab locks and shoryukens out of nowhere. ESAM as Samus, meanwhile, is one of the biggest developments in our metagame we've had this season; he's almost singlehandedly (I say almost because IcyMist has been a force here as well) taken Samus from firmly low tier to potentially high tier. There are many sets I'd like to choose for both of these competititors, but this one is just fun as hell; look out especially for ESAM's brilliant up b's to escape from the Ryu train. EDIT: lol I mean v3 sorry [link] [comments] | ||
