Fallout - Fallout: Hawaii - one of the best ideas

Fallout: Hawaii - one of the best ideas

Posted: 09 Jul 2017 02:11 AM PDT

That other post convinced me. Hawaii could be fun/fresh. Let me hype this up for a second:

Dozens of tribes, from tiny cults to large armies. Islands are good for many smaller factions (opposed to the 3-4 bigger factions were used to). Each would have their own history, customs, rivalries. The same sense of intrigue as vaults from previous games, but with developed surface-cultures.

As the main quest, help organize control between some tribes. Or, disregard morality, cause chaos with a conquest of your own. Do to Hawaii what Caesar did to Arizona, war/politic as many tribes into submission as you can. Pick who you try to recruit, and how, based on your character.

Based on past decisions, certain tribes become harder to absorb due to their existing rivalries and cultural-preferences. Try their intricacies/weaknesses to win them over. Perhaps all towards a big ending, like New Vegas's Hoover Dam. Hawaiis the best place for this type of open story, it's so disconnected that events have little effect on mainland Fallout lore.

All the islands & flooding would be a fresh vibe too. Imagine ambushes from tribes and tropical animals, as you wade through the denser ex-jungle. A refreshing change from empty hills. Underwater stealth/combat would be a thing- items like spear-fishing guns & scuba suits are now important. Mutated animals roam open waters. There should also be some level of pirating... searching for sunken treasures, at the very least

Why do people defend the legion so much?

Posted: 09 Jul 2017 01:19 AM PDT

I always hear people talk about how the legion is such a "morally gray" faction and it's all about how "the ends justify the means", but I just don't see it that way.

Caesar is trying to recreate Rome, but he only seems interested in all the bad parts of roman society like the torture, slavery, crucifixion, and decimation. Women actually had more rights in Ancient Rome than they do in the legion, and even slaves had some rights. And he outlawed all use of modern medicine (except for when he needs it) and any advanced technology that could improve everyone's lives.

Despite this people say the legion is good because some traders said they feel safe in Legion territory. They even go so far to say that the NCR isn't any better because they have some corrupt politicians in their government, and that they're expansionist. The legion is even more expansionist than the NCR and they're much more violent about it. Look at what they did to Nipton.

I always had the feeling that the Legion was meant to be the obvious bad guy faction in the game. I sided with them during my evil play through of the game.

I would like to hear your thoughts on this.

Scariest Creature in Fallout for you?

Posted: 09 Jul 2017 05:57 AM PDT

Mine before is the favorite Deathclaw. But after playing Far Harbor for the 1st time, last night especially the start when we defend the walls... just like LOTR the two towers waiting who or what will come out of the fog... A Gulper appears. I even accidently jump from the wall thinking they've all run from us... then a big gulper charges at me while evading my shots from my hunting rifle lol he likes to go zigzag then bamb slams me with its head.

I was even suprised when some gulper throws a car at me. I literally duck my head while playing. 😂

Feral ghouls are more of an annoyance now. That jump lunges are annoying but fun when I have a shot then use vats killing them in slow mo while muttering to myself "I'd like to keep one of this for close encounters" 😂

Is possible for a player character in a future Fallout game to be an astronaut?

Posted: 09 Jul 2017 10:38 AM PDT

I recall that the space race is just as if not more intense in the Fallout universe.

Seeing as cyrosleep exists in the setting, the introduction could consist of an escape pod holding a frozen astronaut jettisoning from a derelict US space station.

When the pod lands, there could some sort of hidden monitor on the pod reveals itself and starts to display info on the pod's inhabitant. This part would serve as the character creation.

In the midst of playing Fallout 4 for the first time! My thoughts!

Posted: 09 Jul 2017 10:23 AM PDT

Well, I just arrived at Fort Hagen and, WOW! My mind is blown! I have so many questions and am just astounded about how good this game is! What is the institution? Who is Kellog? What does he want with my son? Is he with the institution? If so, what do they want with my son? I also loved the standoff with Skinny Malone and Valentine! That was epic and I just thought that it was so intense!

Edit 1: Just killed Kellog and now I arrived back at Diamond City. That was an awesome showdown with Kellog, and killing him was kind of hard, but then I did something that one shot him and went back to Diamond City. That was a great showdown.

Why doesn't owning a house in Fallout 4 feel satisfying?

Posted: 09 Jul 2017 02:09 PM PDT

SO I was playing through the Witcher 3 DLC, and I got to the point in Blood and Wine where you are gifted a house in return for your work, and after giving it a wander, I felt happy with it, but then I started to wonder; Fallout 4 had a lot poured into the settlements, but yet I never truly felt that happy with any of them, like I did with the house on the Witcher, nor my shitty house in Megaton, or any of my houses in Skyrim.

I've pondered a few reasons for this, such as:

  1. The other houses where rewards: to get these houses, you need to complete a task, such as accepting the contract to slay a monster murdering people in the Witcher, disarming the bomb in Megaton, or becoming a thane in Skyrim, whereas in fallout 4 you just kill whatever lurks there, or do a random fetch quest for a nameless resident. For some reason, this just doesn't feel as fitting for me.

  2. It was YOUR house. This is a point only highlighted in Fallout 4, in all the other games, your house is your personal residence where you can store your loot and trophies, Fallout 4 can't really seem to decide if it's a private abode or a rag tag town you build up, filled with nameless plebs who just complain at you all day. I mean, they will work for you, but it's a bit annoying when you walk in to find 5 people standing in your bedroom.

  3. Location, Location, Location: I really loved having a house in Megaton and Whiterun, small as they may be, because they had a good location in the center of the map. I can't really say why, and this might just be a personal thing, but I enjoyed having a central base I could set off from and return to, even with fast travel. Given that both of these are also the first towns/cities you journey to in each game, it just feels nice to journey back home to them from any direction, gearing up, and then marching back out into the unknown, especially in the early game. The problem it the locations in fallout 4 is that a lot of them are on the far borders of the map, and the few central locations such as hangmans alley and Jamaca plains are VERY restrictive in their building, and admittedly not too easy on the eyes.

  4. They where fully set up houses: As tiny and shitty as they may have started, the houses I loved where fully built and ready for use, whereas Fallout 4 requires a lot of building and designing to build a house, and there's a good chance it could end up looking like ass. Now I've played my fair share of minecraft and Sims, and I've built plenty of houses that I loved in both games, but Fallout seems to make it impossible to make anything I'm proud of, and I think it's fair for me to say its the game, not me, due to bad construction systems, and a poor selection of parts to use, We didn't get any WINDOWS for our houses, until the Workshop DLC for christ sake. I know some people have built amazing things with the FO4 system, but for people with little skill or time to spend on this, the end result is a crappy looking house that you can;t be happy with.

  5. THERE'S TOO DAMN MANY: Fallout 4 had an abundance of settlement locations, which kind of watered down the novelty of owning a house; Whats so special about getting this location, if you've already unlocked 15 previously, and never used them?

So what do you guys think about this? Am I just being a grumpy old git, or did fallout 4 lose the magic of home ownership?

[Fallout 2] Big guns and rifles not functional, can't reload

Posted: 09 Jul 2017 12:00 PM PDT

The sniper rifle has been my main weapon for quite some time now and suddenly I can no longer reload it. I still have tons of ammo for it but I just don't get any text under the icon in the equipped item section. Further testing showed that small guns like uzis or pistols and plasma guns are all fine, only big guns or rifles have this problem. Any idea what could be the cause and how to fix it?

I just beat Dead Money for the first time(SPOILERS)

Posted: 09 Jul 2017 11:39 AM PDT

And holy crap it is awesome. I heard a lot of people saying they don't like it, and a lot of complaints so I kept my expectations low expecting it to suck, but oh man was I surprised. So far I've only beaten Honest Hearts before this, and I think this is better. The red gas was a bit annoying, but I got a gas mask mod to solve that, and it was so much fun. It forces you to change up your play style, taking your gear away and making you scavenge, really felt scary. The ghost people scared the pants off me but I still loved fighting them. The story was really good, and I loved uncovering the secrets of the Sierra Madre, and the references to the upcoming DLC I'm about to play, Lonesome Road and Old World Blues. Locked Elijah in the vault, he can have fun down there rotting. Overall, freaking great DLC, 9/10.

[FNV] Got the perk In Shining Armor to work.

Posted: 09 Jul 2017 02:27 PM PDT

https://youtu.be/A5iyp_v82cc

How I did this: GECK Download GECK, unpack the Zip, and place the contents in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas

go to My Documents\My Games\FalloutNV and edit the GECKcustom ini file with Wordpad, using the find function to find "bAllowMultipleMasterLoads". Set the number from 0 to 1. You may now open and use GECK.

Gameplay-Settings-fMinDamMultiplier - affects Damage Threshold, vanilla is 0.200000 (here set to 0)

actor data-perk-NVDLC01InShiningArmor

delete the perk entry

right click perk entry and click "new"

on the new dialog box, click "entry point"

on the menu under the word "entry point", select "Modify Damage Threshold (defender)"

on the menu under the word "function", select "add value"

on the value box (the box with the zeroes), type how much damage threshold you want to resist against energy weapons (in this video I typed 300).

on the "Conditions" area of the dialog box, select "attacker weapon".

right click the large box underneath the word "attacker weapon", and click "new"

set condition function to "isweaponskilltype"

set function parameters (the box with the word "aggression") by clicking it. Yet another dialog box appears. set actor value to "EnergyWeapons" and click OK.

Click OK on the Condition Item dialog box. YOUR ENTRY MAY NOT APPEAR ON THE CONDITIONS BOX BUT IT IS THERE (I'm using Windows 8.1).

click OK on the perk entry dialog box.

click OK on the perk dialog box.

Save the plugin.

Activate the plugin with Nexus Mod Manager by ticking the square next to the name of your plugin. If you do not have Nexus Mod Manager

Run Fallout New Vegas and watch as energy weapons are less effective on you while wearing "shining armor"

Fallout New Vegas radio song question

Posted: 09 Jul 2017 12:10 PM PDT

More specifically, I know almost 100% sure there's a song on the radio that was made AFTER the apocalypse, and I think it plays in Radio New Vegas's Station but I'm not sure. I wanted to know if anyone could tell me the name? I've tried googling but didn't find anything. Thanks in advance!

I just noticed one very ironic thing from New Vegas

Posted: 08 Jul 2017 03:48 PM PDT

The NCR has a two headed bear as a symbol and in the game only one headed ones appear. On the other hand the Legion has a nonmutated bull as a symbol while the wasteland is filled with two headed bulls and cows. Kinda ironic in my opinion.

[FO4] Most Infuriating Dogs Ever!

Posted: 09 Jul 2017 11:19 AM PDT

Ok, so I have the DLC that lets you catch dogs in cages. Got a set up in Outpost Zimonja where I catch dogs and then send them to whatever settlement I want them to go in. I've had the most frustrating time with this from the get go. First time I tried to send a dog to a different settlement, it didn't leave Zimonja for like a week (I was trying to send it to Tenpines, WHICH IS LITERALLY NOT EVEN A MILE AWAY). The dogs' AI is also dumber than bricks. I had like 3 dogs and only one doghouse, and they were all trying to get into that one doghouse. So I nicely built another 2, and the idiots were still trying to use the only used doghouse! They eventually used them, but it took them for freaking ever to figure it out. Just like the first dog, I've had a few dogs who when I assign them to different settlements, they stick around for a while, but this one dog... this one particular dog I've been working with... HAS LED ME TO LOSE MY MIND!

I have this Junkyard Dog that I wanted to move to County Crossing. I wanted 2 there. First dog I sent went there no problem, but this one is giving me a headache. I kept coming back to Zimonja (as it's my hoarding base where I unload everything) and would see if he left yet. Nope. Still there. Finally after probably 2 in game weeks I had enough. I finally decided to move him MANUALLY VIA CONSOLE COMMANDS to County Crossing, and do you know what this son of a female dog did? HE STARTS WALKING BACK TO ZIMONJA! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? HE'S ASSIGNED TO COUNTY CROSSING! In the game data! Why??? Why is this happening!? It's driving me mad even though it's just a small detail!!! Someone please if there's any kind of console fix for this, anything at all, help me. This is just one of the many buggy straws in Fallout 4 that is driving me insane!

EDIT: I believe I have finally found the solution! I moved the dog back to County Crossing with console commands, and used the console command "resetai". The dog hasn't tried to leave county crossing yet, so I think it's fixed! I can't believe it was that simple!

[Rant] Fallout 2 first dungeon is worse than Dark Souls

Posted: 09 Jul 2017 10:50 AM PDT

I'd really love to know more about the story, the quests, the places and people of Fallout 2's wasteland, but I think that is going to be a little hard if I can't even past the radscorpions in the Temple of the Trials.

To illustrate my current situation, my current hit ratio is 1/20. That means I only hit once in like 20 swings. Playing on Easy, and around 30% of my melee skill.

While I do admit I was going to play a more intelligent/charisma focused character, I don't understand why that means I have to miss my enemy all the time, when he is just in front of me.

You could say, oh, just attack once and then walk 3 tiles away from the damn scorpions, but I go on forever, because I keep missing my swings, all while getting poisoned and not having antidotes nearby.

My biggest concern is that, if I can't even joy the first dungeon of the game, I don't think I will enjoy it for the rest of the content. Which is a shame, because I'm kind of tired of Bethesda's quests and bad writing, and I really wanted to have a good Fallout RPG experience for a change.

But as Rick once said, we will always have New Vegas.

Does the JSawyer mod do anything to companions?

Such as damage taken/dealt?

I wish to know because i don't want modded companions, such as Willow, to break the balance that vanilla companions may have recieved.

Confession time: I've put over 1000 hours into FNV and am still not tired of it.

Posted: 08 Jul 2017 07:05 PM PDT

My sophomore year of college, I had a pretty light class load. I had never played any video game before and was reluctant to start to say the least. A friend sat down with me and had me watch the NV intro, explained the background, and walked me through character design and the first few quests after that. This was my first video game ever, so it was pretty infuriating at first (because I sucked, if that wasn't obvious), and I can't say I was hooked right away, but pretty soon, after I finished homework I'd play for hours and hours, doing every sidequest and exploring every nook and cranny. 6 or 7 playthroughs, 985 hours of gameplay, and 3 years later, here I am, knowing everything about the game and lore like my own hand and still not tired of it. I finally picked up my own copy and look forward to enjoying it alk over again. I can't see myself ever getting tired of FNV, and weirdly enough, I'm proud of the time I've put in and the knowledge I have of the game.

Can someone help me troubleshoot random game crashes?

Posted: 09 Jul 2017 03:07 PM PDT

Just bought FO3 during the Steam Summer Sale. Really immersing myself into the game, but it keeps crashing repeatedly at random times whenever I move around inside random houses inside Megaton. After 10+ crashes, it's starting to become a chore. Is there a patch of some sort?

[Question] Issue with "Those!"

Posted: 09 Jul 2017 02:44 PM PDT

I got to the queen and sent the pulse to kill all the ants. I also killed all five guardians (I counted five corpses). However, the quest log still shows that task as incomplete. Further, Dr. Lesko is nowhere to be seen. He isn't in the lab nor (as far as I can tell) is he anywhere in the surrounding tunnels.

I would like to get his labcoat, since my character is science and tech focused.

Any ideas what might have happened, and how can I fix it?
