How much of the humor in Zelda is from the translators?

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 12:25 AM PDT

Obviously a lot of non-verbal humor in Zelda comes from the Japanese developers, but what about the verbal humor? I'm talking about the funny little extra things that characters say, the humorous ways they phrase things, and the funny speech options you have as Link (such as when somebody asks if you will give them something you said you would, you have the option of saying "Nope, bye!").

I feel like this has gotten more pronounced in SS and BotW, I actually laughed pretty hard at some of the things people would say in BotW.

Does anybody know how NOA handles translations? Is it trying to be faithful or trying to be entertaining?

ALttP randomizer seed question.

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 09:03 AM PDT

Has anyone encountered the seed that's the original game, straight up? Even if it's close, like big chest items, world chest items, proper pendant/crystal locations and such. I'm not so much worried about heart pieces and optionals as much as progression.

I have a buddy who does one a day and I want to troll him with my seed request.

Why isn't there fishing?!

Posted: 11 Jun 2017 11:43 AM PDT

I wish there was fishing in this game. It would give lakes and streams that much more of a purpose. I'd love to look for different spots to fish. I would have liked it to be like Oot but even super simple like Tp would've made me happy.

I wanna play every Zelda game.

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 12:16 AM PDT

The only Zelda game I've played was Link's Awakening on Gameboy Color when I was a kid and I remember loving it. I just had the urge to play all the Zelda games. What's the most efficient way for me to do this in terms of buying consoles? I currently have no consoles.

Has anyone else noticed this?? (BOTW)

Posted: 11 Jun 2017 07:56 PM PDT

I've been wandering about Hyrule Castle. And I found princess Zelda's room, read her diary, etc. But when I walked out toward the exit, toward the waterfall, Link started climbing??? Glitch perhaps? Or intentional. Thoughts?

Calamity Ganon Theory(Warning: Possible BOTW spoilers ahead.)

Posted: 11 Jun 2017 09:31 PM PDT

Hello! SnakeZGame here, presenting to you a theory I have forged for more than one day, definitely. The theory I am presenting today has to do with Calamity Ganon, the main villain within The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The theory I am presenting to you will dive deep into the lore of the character of Ganondorf, Ganon, and the eternal evil known as Demise. To start off, there will be spoilers for BotW and numerous other Zelda titles. The first thing I shall look at is the facts and information we currently know about Calamity Ganon. The only real game we can look to for information on the beast is BotW. We, as Link, first find out about this beast when the Old Man(later revealed to be the King of Hyrule), tells you that one day, 100 years before the main game's events, Calamity Gaon appeared, destroying everything in its path, killing a lot of people, and essentially destroying the kingdom, killing the king. He then goes into detail, saying that it was born into this kingdom. Keep in mind that he refers to it as "The Demon King". The king then says that tales of "Ganon" were passed down in legends and fairy tales. He then mentions a prophecy. Does he go into detail on this "prophecy"? Yes. The prophecy(not a very prophetic like one, mind you), is: "The signs of the resurrection of Calamity Ganon are clear. And the power to oppose it lies dormant beneath the ground." The king then sends his troops far and wide across Hyrule to try and find this "power" within the ground. The Divine Beasts are then found, blah blah blah, Guardians. He then says something that I found...interesting. The king claims that he and the Kingdom learned of a princess with a sacred power and her appointed knight who was chosen to wield the Master Sword. It was the duo who sealed Ganon away using the ancient relics(the Divine Beasts, Guardians, etc.). While the King doesn't go into detail on how they found the prophecy, what I found interesting was they had NO idea about this huge event in the kingdom's history. I mean, take it like this. At the end of SS, the kingdom of Hyrule was first established. According to the timeline, the next game that takes place is LoZ:MC. So, in MC, they OBVIOUSLY have to have records of the events of SS in their historical files. When a new nation is formed, they do not just simply FORGET the events that led to the nation being founded. Like America, for example. America doesn't simply FORGET the Revolutionary War. That is what shaped the country being a THING, not just a colony owned by Great Britain. So, America would never just one day forget everything about the Revolutionary War. Now, this would also apply to other events within it's history. Let's say for Hyrule. The events of Twilight Princess just happened. Centuries later, during the events of Four Swords Adventures, would they simply forget all about that because of time? NO! For example, the Civil War in America. Just because it was almost a century-and a half ago doesn't mean it will be forgotten. So, back to BotW. That is why I find it so ODD that they simply FORGOT all about this. Anyway, blah, blah, blah, Champions and Link and Zelda shit, blah, blah, blah. He DOES also mention that Calamity Ganon does show signs of intelligence, which I'll get to later. That's really all the important stuff for now. The next person we receive information from is Impa. Impa is the main character in the game who gives Link easily the most information on his past. She gives you the whole memory side-quest in game. And when you talk to her, she gives you this whole cutscene on the origins of Calamity Ganon. She claims that the history of Calamity goes along with the history of the royal family. She claims that 10,000 years ago, Hyrule was at the peak of technology(this was the age when they made Guardians, Divine Beasts, Sheikah Towers, Sheikah Slates, etc.). Hyrule made all of this because they saw the signs that Calamity Ganon was going to return. When it did, Hyrule used the Divine Beasts, and Guardians to delay Calamity, and Zelda and Link(of that age) ultimately sealed him. I noticed while rewatching the cutscene that this isn't actually the origin of the beast, which makes us theorists have to work even harder. Anyway, this says he has appeared more than twice. That's all the real lore information that we get before the end of the game. Now, Zelda does say something really important. This is where spoilers come in. Anyway, Zelda tells us that Calamity Ganon is made of a material known as Malice. Now, this is a purple-ish material that you haven't seen before, right? You're WRONG. We have seen this material, just in a different form. It also makes all the Guardians/Divine Beasts turn on Hyrule. Which game? Twilight Princess. Yes, this game. How does it appear? Well, remember that scene in TP that happens after Link defeats possessed Zelda? He then appears to them in this weird yellow form of a floating head. If you go to pg. 113, it is referred to as...Ganondorf's MALICE. The description. Ganondorf is full of wickedness and hatred. And what is one of the titles of Calamity Ganon? Hatred and Malice Incarnate. So we have seen this material before! This gives us a few clues. First, where this takes place in the timeline, since there has been a lot of controversy over that recently. And something even better. So, in FSA, Ganon is sealed in the Four Sword. Now, there has been a different villain sealed in that sword. Vaati. Why is this important? See, the central plot point for FS is that the seal placed in MC has weakened so much that Vaait managed to escape. Now, Vaait is nowhere close to how powerful as Ganon is. My point? My point is that if Vaati was able to break out of the seal, Ganon could break out of it EASILY. I mean, think about it. The only other game that Malice is in is TP, which confirms the child timeline(along with the memories). Now, here is where things get interesting. So, based on what I have concluded, this is Ganon from TP, who has possibly mastered whatever magic(possibly Twilight Magic)used to make himself take a Calamity form. Now, there is something to add to this idea. If you take a picture of Calamity Ganon, and it registers to your Hyrule Compedium, it says that Calamity was attempting to take a physical form to take on Link, but Link woke up too early, bringing us the beast we see in BOTW. So, here is my idea. When Ganon was sealed in the Four Sword in FSA, while sealed, he mastered the art of Calamity magic, and was able to transform into Calamity Ganon. Now, if it takes Calamity over 100 years to take a human form, that must mean that it takes that same amount of time to transform into Calamity. And Ganon didn't have to rush this time. He could take his time within the seal, developing his power. Then, at some point, he broke the seal of the Four Sword, wrecked havoc on Hyrule, and was defeated. And we don't know that specific time because it was before 10,000 years ago. So maybe….20,000 years ago? I don't know. Well, anyway, if you got this far, thanks for reading! I plan on being an active theorizer on Reddit and other Zelda communities, so stay tuned! For my next Zelda theory, it has to do with Link, Zelda, and Calamity Ganon...and how, in an age even before 10,000 years ago, Hyrule fought Calamity Ganon...and LOST! See ya next time! Also, to sum up the theory, it is that Calamity Ganon originated from the Child timeline and that he mastered the magic of Malice while within the Four to become the Great Calamity.

Anyone else thinks Zelda should've been old as fuck at the end of BOTW?

Posted: 11 Jun 2017 02:21 PM PDT

I think it wouldve been very interesting, and would've added weight to the urgency of the situation if Zelda was aging all those years.

I heard a rumor that the Zora's are in BOTW

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 06:10 AM PDT

Not sure if the rumor is true or not, but Zora's Domain was my favorite place to visit in OoT. Can anyone confirm or deny that for me? I intend to get either a switch or WiiU one day so I can play BoTW https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0z_qTsTDCk
