Daily Card Discussion Thread #640 - Giant Mastodon | June 12th, 2017 Posted: 12 Jun 2017 08:23 AM PDT Introduction The way this works is simple: Every day a random collectible card is selected for discussion. Post your thoughts on the card in the comments below. Discussion is not limited to competitive viability - feel free to talk about the art, sounds, animations or anything else you like. As a reminder, at the bottom of each thread you can navigate to the previous discussion thread, as well as find a link to a list of all the discussion threads so far. StarLadder Hearthstone StarSeries Season 3 Finals decks, results, and analysis Posted: 12 Jun 2017 08:51 AM PDT Note: Spoilers, check out the games first if that's what you like. 30 hours of video is available on StarLadder's Twitch channel at https://www.twitch.tv/starladder_hs_en/videos/all StarLadder Hearthstone StarSeries Season 3 Finals were played this weekend to determine the winner of this global major series with a $30,000 prize pool. The format was slightly different than usual, best-of-seven Conquest with one ban, so each player brought five decks instead of the usual four. This did not affect the class distribution too much: Warlock is still dead, Priest and Hunter are still niche classes, and people still love Warrior, Paladin, Mage, and Druid. Perhaps the most surprising thing was the popularity of Shaman: good results time and again had prompted every single player in the top 8 to bring Shaman - the only class used by everyone! The tournament featured a heavy control meta: Only one Murloc Paladin, one Pirate Warrior, and no Secret Mages, but instead six Taunt Warriors, four Control Paladins, and four Jade Druids! Control Paladin and Taunt Warrior were the big losers in the tournament, both running at a 36% win rate (8-14 record for both of them). The winner of the tournament did not have either in his lineup! Both archetypes underperformed almost throughout the field, as only one player was able to pilot either of them to an over 50% win rate! Zalae was the only player who brought Midrange Paladin, and he was rewarded for his pick in this particular meta, piloting the deck to a 5-1 record. Of the more common choices, Discover Mage, Quest Rogue, and Evolve Shaman had strong performances, outdoing their competitors within their own classes as well as overall. Jade Druid was the most banned deck overall with a whopping 9 bans. It was followed by Quest Rogue with 7 bans and Aggro Druid with 4 bans. Both Jade Druid and Quest Rogue managed to achieve an over 50% win rate in the matches where they were not banned. See the full article for detailed win rates, lineups, and deck spotlights! Anybody else want an arena mode that's free and gives no rewards? Posted: 11 Jun 2017 05:22 PM PDT Sometimes I just like the gameplay in arena, and the card draft, and either don't have the 150 gold on the tip of our tongue or don't want to spend our current gold. Edit: Looking at the comments, maybe there could be a limit to how many decks you can draft, like 1 every 2 or 3 days. [link] [comments]

Random discussion: Thoughts from a new player Posted: 12 Jun 2017 09:07 AM PDT I've been playing about a week, love the game. Quick bio: Played MTG for 6 years in the early 2000 competitively (went to state and regions a few times, and weekly card shop tourneys of course), Played WoWs card game (which this has a LOT of similarities to), Pokemon, and some others. First: there's quiet the diversity of skill out there. i've played people who have clearly played for at least some time (fancy card backs, legendary cards, etc...) and I decimated them with my starting deck. I'm all to familiar with the luck of the draw, but for example - I was playing this guy who's whole deck there wasn't one card i had seen before. He made so many simple mistakes that cost him the game, multiple times. I couldn't believe what I as seeing from somebody very likely not new to the game. Second, and related - it's a weird double edged sword. I feel like even with the cards i have, I can be competitive against most, but there's a portion of the population I still see about 1/3 times where they have super fine tuned decks and cards that will take months to obtain short of throwing a ton of cash at the came - which I refuse to do. In a way I like it, in a way i hate it. I tend to get matched with some people who are newer or just not great players, but then i get matched with people who just desimate me with crazy powerful cards and combos I didn't even know to prepare for.. Not much in the middle. I guess people like me likely started playing a long time ago. Anyways, great game. Having fun. Hope to see some of you once I got some more cards and some better deck synergy going. PS; I hate priests :-p [link] [comments]
Curious innkeeper about does and don'ts in hosting a Tavern Hero tourney Posted: 12 Jun 2017 06:56 AM PDT Hi everyone, I will soon be organizing a Tavern Hero event, I already have the location sorted out but I wanted to ask you what were the best things that you saw when visiting those type of events and what are the definite event destroyers. Posted: 11 Jun 2017 09:19 PM PDT Note that while this scenario is extremely niche and not normally likely, it still highlights another problem in how Amara works. Her battlecry still functions differently from Alexstrasza, despite both of the cards being worded the same. I was testing a bad meme highlander priest deck against the innkeeper. Kazakus gave me a potion that added 3 random demons to my hand. Malganis and Jaraxxus was two of them. I played Mal'ganis, then the next turn played jaraxxus whilst the innkeeper had a Repentance up as the Paladin bot. My health got set to 1, but since I had Amara in hand and Mal'ganis up, I wasn't concerned. Next turn, I played Amara, she triggered her battlecry, but my health was still set to 1.
