[Meta]With the new gym system coming out, make sure to turn on your AR mode for cool battle shots!

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 03:20 PM PDT

Hey guys and gals!

The excitement is real, the gym update should be coming out within the next 48hours! When that update goes live for everyone we'd like to encourage you to turn on your Augmented Reality camera to take cool gym battle pictures and post them to the subreddit. Remember, only AR screenshots can be posted as link posts, but for those who can't use the AR mode for POGo, you can still share your gym battles as a link in a text post.

Here's to a whole lot of fun with this new gym system. Good luck, and have fun!

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 04:39 PM PDT

With the announcement of Raid Battles and the new battle features, we are staying true on our commitment to ensuring that Pokémon GO continues to be a fun and fair experience for all Trainers. Starting today, Pokémon caught using third-party services that circumvent normal gameplay will appear marked with a slash in the inventory and may not behave as expected. We are humbled by the excitement for all the new features we announced yesterday. This is one small part of our continued commitment to maintaining the integrity of our community and delivering an amazing Pokémon GO experience.

Update on the PTC outage

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 12:02 PM PDT

On June, 19 PDT, some Trainers using Pokémon Trainer Club reported issues accessing Pokémon GO on Android. Our team has been actively looking into this issue and working on a solution. We will be rolling out a fix that we anticipate will be out to all affected users by the end of the day today. We recognize that this has been an ongoing frustration and we are looking into long-term solutions to these login issues.

Update: Pokémon GO version 0.67.1 is gradually rolling out to all Android users. Update your app to resolve this issue.

Update 2: To help out folks affected by this issue, we've extended the Solstice Event. It will now end at 1:00 P.M. PDT on June 21.

Update 3: Pokémon GO version 0.67.1 has been rolled out to all Android users. Please check the Play Store for this update. If you are still experiencing issues logging in after upgrading, please try the troubleshooting guide.

[Discussion] A few helpful tips to become a search bar master.

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 02:54 PM PDT

-searching for "evolve" brings up all pokes ready to be evolved

-searching for a type (i.e. fire) brings up all your pokes of that typing

-enter a number and it will show you the pokemon associated to that number in the pokedex

-search for certain cp ranges by using "cpXX-XX" (replace the X's with numbers)

Share your tips here!

[Complaint] Android PTC players haven't been able to play for almost a whole day now!

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 08:03 AM PDT

Cross-posting from r/TheSilphRoad because the mods there have deleted it, probably for not being "positive" enough:

I and all other Android users who have PTC accounts have been unable to play since yesterday. This is far from the first time that the PTC login system has stopped players from accessing the game, but this is by far the longest outage! The fact thats its happening during the last day of a limited time event is just salt on the wound.

Although some compensation would be nice, what we really need a permanent solution to this issue, namely, being able to migrate our accounts over to the Google authentication system.

And no, players going to third party sites and side-load older versions of the apk is NOT an acceptable solution (this is currently the only way for Android PTC users to play).

Personally, I won't be giving any more of my money to Niantic until this issue is resolved to my satisfaction, and I invite all the users affected by this (and everyone else too!) to join me in order to make Niantic understand that they can't treat their customers this way (to date I've spent about $20 on the game, which may not much in the grand scheme of things, but I'm not just complaining about a product I use for free).

I think we would all like a response on this, /u/nianticgeorge and /u/nianticindigo ..... Whats is Niantic going to do to make it up to us, and more importantly, what are they going to do to make sure this problem doesn't get repeated?

Edit/update:

/u/teknrd has received a response from Niantic to his support ticket indicating that a fix should be coming in sometime today:

"Hello, On June, 19 PDT, some Trainers using Pokémon Trainer Club reported issues accessing Pokémon GO on Android. Our team has been actively looking into this issue and working on a solution. We will be rolling out a fix that we anticipate will be out to all affected users by the end of the day today.

Jasmine Niantic Support"

This has been confirmed by posts on reddit by /u/nianticgeorge and /u/nianticindigo

Its nice that the service should be restored soon, but as I already said, what we want to see is a plan for making sure this isn't repeated. Also, the affected users lost an entire day of the event, which should also be addressed in some way.

Update #2:

It appears that the event will be extended until tomorrow and we should be able to play again once we get the new patch. Hopefully those of us affected by the outage will be able to catch their coveted pokemon tomorrow before the event is over, but Niantic really needs to up their communication game. I only found out about the event extension from a post on another subreddit and not from the threads where we are begging for answers. Still no word on being able to ditch PTC and migrate accounts over to Google.

I think we're due for a double stardust event

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 09:41 AM PDT

With the release of the highly anticipated gym update being right around the corner, I think now would be the perfect time to consider this event. Since the new gym system will have a same-species limitation, many of us will have to power up more Pokemon to further diversify our squad of gym attackers/defenders and an event like this would help tremendously.

[Complaint] Niantic, please populate the suburban and rural areas.

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 06:19 PM PDT

I know everyone is super excited for the update. I really am, too. However, this spike in player interest and game population provides a great time to discuss one of the biggest issues faced by players like myself in the suburbs or rural areas: world emptiness.

I live just outside of Atlanta, Georgia, in a very popular suburb. But here's a few screenshots of the large area around me (360 degrees)

To be clear, the world feels (and is) just as empty today as it did when the game first launched for some of us. There are zero pokestops, poke gyms, or sometimes even pokemon within a large distance of my house. These aren't carefully positioned screenshots, either--they stretch on like this in every direction for quite a while. Niantic promised suburban players would see more activity, but many of us haven't. I'd have to drive to distant places to see Pokémon, which I'm pretty sure is contrary to the ideal of players walking around while playing and exploring. I'd love to explore the world of Pokémon Go.. if there was anything near me to explore.

Niantic, if any of your helpful employees see this, please continue populating the map and world so players who are in the suburbs and more rural areas (I'm in a popular suburb outside a huge city, so it's weird the Pokémon world is so dead here) can enjoy Pokémon Go just as much as players in cities can.

With the PTC issues, the Fire & Ice event should be extended for a day

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 06:47 AM PDT

I'm on iOS and have a Google account so it's not a problem for me, but I know how it feels to miss out on an event because of technical issues. Here's hoping Niantic decides to extend the event for a day.

In other discussion, what Pokemon are you missing from the event? My wife and I believe we have everything (the last one on our list being a Lapras that spawned at our townhouse two hours after we got home from a day at the water park). The "bigguns" for this event are Charizard for fire and Lapras for ice, correct?
