The best dragonite picture I'll ever take. After hiking all the way up the Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto, Japan, this guy popped up on my nearby. Took 15 minutes to get the GPS drift just right but I finally got him.

Stop resetting our raid lineup when we enter the items menu in the raid lobby

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 06:48 AM PDT

I'm sure that it's not intentional. Nevertheless, it is still quite inconvenient.

Thanks Niantic.

[Idea] I actually wouldn't mind Eevee in 10K eggs if they replaced Pineco with it

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 06:35 AM PDT

Title..

I'd much rather have a high IV Eevee from a 10K egg with 5 very strong evolutions instead of a useless Pineco with 2K max cp...

What do you think?

[Story] Some trainers got in a fight in our town. Condition of bond is that they don't play pokemon anymore.

Raid pass should only be used once we fight the boss

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 01:52 PM PDT

It should not be used just for checking a raid lobby!

Its very annoying when I'm playing in the city which is very busy.

There might be people playing in a building next to a gym but I don't want to waste a raid pass just to check.

I want a jinx pretty badly so I decided to make smoochum my buddy. Then I saw this.

Probably the most adorable thing I've seen all day.

[IDEA] BEACON ON A RAID TO LET OTHERS NEARBY KNOW PEOPLE ARE WAITING TO ATTACK IT.

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 07:05 PM PDT

I'm sick and tired of going to level 4 raids and not being able to handle it without a ton of people. Today we had: 1 level 35 1 level 31 1 level 28 2 level 26's 1 level 22

Battling a Snorlax today and we couldn't cut it. It would have been possible to complete this in game if we could issue some kind of flare in game to alert people nearby that people are trying to beat the raid boss. It keeps the social aspect within the game rather than trying to text all the people you met at previous raids to come show up. Not much point to level 4 raids when you live in a rural area.

Creating an Incentive for Attacking Players is Sorely Needed

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 10:36 AM PDT

It seems like a lot of people I know are already losing interest in the Gym component of the game. The old system encouraged squatting with huge Blisseys. It took ages to take down a level ten tower of them, and was extremely unfun due to their HP. We saw stagnation in gyms because it was no longer worth anyones time to go try to take out a Blissey tower.

Squatters were rewarded for literally doing nothing but occassionally monitoring their gyms and collecting 100 coins a day.

The new system sounded great! Quick flipping of gyms would keep gyms from stagnating. Turns out, its not all rainbows and sunshine. There are huge problems with the current way rewards are given, and I think the main problem is the complete lack of reward for taking down gyms.

Yesterday, I walked to from my office to grab some lunch. In between work and the store, I saw a Mystic gym, fully motivated, and said to myself, "Lets take this gym and hopefully, since a lot of people are on their lunch hour, it will fill up fast and we can defend it for a couple hours."

So I sat on a bench and spent 20 minutes of my lunch hour solo'ing a gym filled with 2.5-2.9k Blissey, Rhydon, Gyarados, Dragonite, and two other oddballs. Spent a ton of my potion and revive reserve to do it, as I'm not 35+ like it seems all of Mystic is in this city. I successfully capped the gym, and put in my Steelix who is almost max. I thought hed be a great start for a defender on the gym.

Wrong.

I didnt make it 2 blocks from that gym before someone took him out, and 4 Mystic Pokemon were thrown back in there. I was awarded zero coins for 20 minutes of battling, while they collected theirs and retook the gym, in hopes of another sucker like me walking by and taking it down.

This is a terrible system. Do you know what I did while I walked by that same gym today, still filled with Mystic pokemon? Nothing, and I will never bother taking that gym again. Whats the point? Four Mystic accounts clearly live/work on that gym, get the notification that their gym was taken, and retake it immediately. I get nothing out of it.

So my solution is this:

Taking down a defending pokemon (Feinting it): 5 coins awarded to the one who takes the "final hit". This isnt unprecedented, as the one who has the "final hit" of the final poke got priority over placing their defender in the gym previously. Keep the current defending reward (admittedly, I dont know it since it keeps changing it seems).

Defending for 24 hours straight: Free raid pass.

This way, teams no longer want to allow other teams to get free raid passes (which seems to be all the rave round here right now) and attackers are rewarded for any work they do, be it taking down one pokemon or all 6. It keeps the current cap, so Niantic can keep that cash flow, but also rewards the people actually interacting with gyms and encourages flipping.

PSA - Your raid pass is good for the duration of the entire raid. Not enough people when you queue? Simply back out and try again.

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 06:15 AM PDT

I've seen a lot of people upset that they cannot tell if someone is raiding alongside them or not, and do not want to use a raid pass. Well the game might not have exactly what we want, BUT if you use your raid pass on a raid that say has 40 minutes left, when you get into the lobby you can always back out of the battle up until the 90 second countdown timer expires.

This means if you have the time, you can keep "scouting" the lobby every 90 seconds until people finally show up to join you.

Hopefully this helps someone out there.

[Story] For the first time in a long time, Pokemon Go feels like a SOCIAL game

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 01:16 PM PDT

Like many of you here, I started playing Pokemon Go on the very first day it came out. And it was a blast. The first month was like nothing I've ever experienced. But then things died down. A lot of my friends and family put the game away and moved on with their life. It didn't help that I was an Instinct player in a largely Valor and Mystic dominated college campus. So ever since the end of last summer, I've more or less been roaming all by my lonesome self, walking my buddies and battling a few gyms here and there.

When the new update rolled out, I was extremely excited, but worried. While gyms seemed more accessible than ever, raids seemed inaccessible to players without many friends. And so I tried out level 1 and 2 raids and was able to solo them, but stayed away from 3s and 4s after reading other experiences here.

My story begins here. I was out getting some food when I saw the timer tick down halfway across campus on a level 4 raid. And there he was in all his glory: Tyranitar. So I got my food and rushed over, hoping that if someone was there, they wouldn't start without me. I show up about 10 minutes later and there are 3 vastly different people sitting on a bench: a middle-aged business man, a young kid, and a regular guy with a hat. From afar, I raised the phone in my hand into the air and said: "Raid?" and they shouted back in agreement!

I sat down with them and we talked, exchanged team info and levels, and just very generally got to know each other. This was the first time I felt like I was playing a supposedly social game in a very long time! But we knew that 4 people was not enough for a Tyranitar raid, even though 3/4 of us were level 30+. We were about to give it a go...when 3 other people showed up! We, again, got to know each other very simply and headed into the raid. There were 2 other players in there for a total of 9, although I have no idea where they were (spoofers? inside a building perhaps?).

Anyways, Tyranitar was a piece of cake. I think we all lost about 4 Pokemon, but took him down very quickly. And of course, we all tried our luck in catching him. But he was very strong and only 2 out of the 7 of us got him and I was unfortunately not one of them. Regardless, we all got really good rewards (Rare Candies, TMs, Golden Razzes) so we were ecstatic! We all socialized a little more and then most people left. Luckily for me, two people stuck around.

We talked some more and got to know each other a little bit. Then, we walked over to another level 3 raid and defeated an Alakazam together, strengthening our Pokemon Go camaraderie. It really reminded me of an Ash, Misty, and Brock type thing but that's just because we were 2 guys and a girl to be honest.

Anyways, we ended up exchanging contact info and now I've made two new friends who actively play Pokemon Go and live near me! This is the first time in a long time where this game has felt social. If I didn't put myself out there and try to engage with new people, I would never have made these new experiences. I'm sure that my interactions today were one of the key hopes for Niantic when designing this game as well as raids.

However, nothing is perfect and before this "luck" encounter today, I showed up to level 3 and 4 raids with nobody in sight. I do believe some sort of chat or notification system should be added to help alleviate this issue.

Anyways, TL;DR: Went out. Showed up to a level 4 raid. Met some awesome new people. Exchanged info. I now have friends to play Pokemon Go with!

[discussion] TMs - best thing in PoGo since Pinap berry

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 07:25 AM PDT

Double XPs and shorter buddy walking distance are nice, but those special event perks are only temporary.

I was thrilled when Niantic introduced Pinap berry, because I can collect candies twice as fast, especially useful for rares. Best of all, it's a permanent feature unlike event perks.

Now, TMs look like another slam dunk permanent feature that will transform PoGo for me yet again. Thank you, Niantic!

We need a huge ban wave on spoofers

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 09:58 AM PDT

I send a lot of reports of spoofers in my local area and no one never was banned. I shot a video as a proof that nobody is on the gym send to Niantic and nothing happens. Niantic are not reading the reports and this need to change. On youtube you see cheaters making happening on videos and Niantic doesn´t take his channel down (or they account). Wake up, Niantic! It´s time to do something. Please, start to see the reports and start analyzing accounts. PS: bad english. Niantic doesn´t do support on portuguese. PS 2: There´s a huge amount of "bot/sniper accounts" in circulation, the last "slash" thing doesn´t do nothing. If you share this pain, please Thumbs up this topic!

[Discussion] The Problems of being a solo rural player (and why absolutely nothing is being talked about us)

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 05:35 AM PDT

I am Level 33 and the area i live in has 1 gym (4.5 miles away to be precise) and 4 pokestops (1 right beside the gym and the nearest being 2.7 miles away). None of the people here have heard of Pokemon Go let alone Ingress so i have no hope of getting anything from Niantic currently.

My way of managing to play before the update was this -

  1. For just normal play (as the number of spawn points in a 2 mile radius around me were just 12) - I travelled on a bike Everyday for 30 miles (to and fro) to an area which had 11 Pokestops and 3 gyms.

  2. For Gyms - along with the 4 gyms (1 in my area and 3 in the area i travel to), I went out of my way to search for gyms in areas which cant be accessed easily, i even trekked for a couple of them. I also went to a city 60 miles away which was Valor dominated everyday for a week to 10 days until i could put my Pokemon in. After doing all this i used to get 50 coins on an average per day. A spoofer used to take the gym in my area everyday but i used to take it back while i returned home, and i collected my coins after getting my gym back.

Fast forwarding to after the update -

  1. Gyms - I was done for. Seriously. All the hard work i put in evaporated in a day. But i didnt lose hope and went to my gym first. The spoofer already had it and i started the battle. To my shock when i defeated all six of his bots, i saw their health (motivation) and it was full! He was just feeding them berries while i was battling. It was purely out of spite and to torture me that he was doing this. After an hour long battle (to add to that the lag was unreal so i lost a lot of potions and revives unnecessarily), I had to give up.

I then travelled to the area which had 3 gyms and they were all Valor so i thought 'Phew, atleast i can put my Pokemon in this time' But no, all of them were full. I could do nothing else there so i played for a couple of hours and returned with 0 coins earned.

And now -

  1. Raids - First thing the gym was too far away for me to get a raid notification so i went there and waited for 3 hours to see if i could get one. Finally i did get it and it was a Level 3, waited for a couple more hours to see what it was ( all this while i was alone), It was Arcanine. I had a Rhydon, Vaporeon and Golem Squad Ready. I got it down to 25% but couldnt take it down. I used half of my stardust powering up all of them to an extent and tried again. This time the lag was so bad it went this way - Fast attacks dont make any damage, but i kept receiving damage. After using a charge move, initially i could see the damage but the health was being returned to Arcanine. I lost health in the meantime and also valuable time. It was a complete mess. I just wanted to punch something so badly at that point of time. After 4 unsuccessful attempts, I gave up because i was so frustrated by then.

After this horror experience i thought, maybe if i go to the nearby cities i can meet the players there while they come to raid. I went there the next evening and a raid was going on, But i could see no one. Same with 3 more raids. I didnt want to waste my raid pass again so i just did a Level 2 raid and returned disappointed.

My question is - Arent rural players important at all? I did all i could to bypass our problems, i tried meeting players, going to distant areas each and everyday just to play the game. All this time, nothing is being done to add Pokestops/Gyms for us. Please dont say Ingress , Its easier for people here to know about Pokemon than Ingress and i couldnt find a single Pokemon Go player in the last few months. I also have spent a decent amount on incubators, Pokemon/Bag space, Lucky Eggs etc. But How long am i supposed to spend obscene amounts just for travel to play this game? If i saved up all the money i spent for travelling , i could have gone for a week long vacation to a foreign country easily. I have been waiting patiently since the game was launched and not a single improvement has been added for rural players. The rich keep getting richer and the poor stay the same (Pokemon go Experience wise)

TL;DR - Rural players have been ignored for such a long time. Its frustrating to see that every update makes it worse for us rather than better. Now seeing people taking down Level 4 raids together on Youtube or talking about it on TSR and also seeing the insane items you get from such raids is far more jealousy inducing than before raid update. Please Niantic Ghost employees on Reddit, take note of us.
