Hearthstone - Three reasons why the next expansion is most likely "Return of the Lich King"

Three reasons why the next expansion is most likely "Return of the Lich King"

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 03:02 AM PDT

1: Return of the Lich King was trademarked four months ago by Blizzard.

In a reddit thread four months ago, someone noticed that blizzard trademarked Return of the Lich King. You might think that this could be a WoW expansion, however speculation in the comments of that thread think it's a hearthstone expansion. It doesn't sound right to be a WoW expansion, and would be weird for them to bring back the Lich King now. It is also quite unlikely that it is for heroes of the storm, as they just had a big event (hots 2.0 and hanumura showdown). The name sounds very "hearthstoney".

Just this alone is unlikely the next expansion for Hearthstone will be Return of the Lich King, however the next two points make this a lot more likely.

2: returnofthelichking.com was parked by GoDaddy four months ago.

Source

Blizzard have done this for all of their expansions since Old Gods at least (idk whether they did that further back), with the site GoDaddy. Again, this alone makes it unlikely that the next expansion is Return of the Lich King, and it could have just been done for a different game. But what is interesting is that this was parked about the time that Return of the Lich King was trademarked! This seems the perfect time for a hearthstone expansion, as they generally are announced about a month from now and released about two months from now. It could have just been a fan who parked the site to try to earn money off blizzard, perhaps, but I doubt this as blizzard would have parked the site as they trademarked the names.

3: The last two ranked card backs were the places Arthas visited in order.

Last week I saw this reddit thread which sparked me to make this post. The other two points above aren't enough evidence alone that the next expansion will be "Return of the Lich King", however I think this makes it much more likely, as Arthas was the Lich King. As the thread states, if the next card back is something to do with Northrend this is pretty much confirmed, however I didn't want to wait until then as next month there will be an update (as there is no ranked card back), that will most likely be the pre-order of the next expansion. This is very unlikely to be a coincidence along with the other two points.

So what do you think will be the next expansion?

Edit: As many pointed out (and I forgot), there was another pointer to this being the next expansion:

There were runes that looked a lot like frostmourne runes on a promotional year of the mammoth image released by blizzard. (This was confirmed to be related to the expansion; I don't have a link though)

Edit 2: Someone pointed out that this image datamined by hearthpwn from the last patch might have something do to with it. Icecrown hype? Or something from brawl?

Blizzard for the love of Yogg please change the Arena rewards

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 02:49 AM PDT

11 win rewards: http://i.imgur.com/hoS6fyj.jpg

Is this serious?

After playing against a deck that attained 3 Polymorphs from random effects and losing, getting this shitty rewards is like icing on the cake (or the straw that breaks the camel's back?).

Nevertheless, it feels incredibly underwhelming and disappointing to say the least..

Is there anything more to say?

P.S. quoting the wrongly banned toast:

It's fixed, I don't expect compensation, but it would have been nice to have acknowledgement from blizzard that they screwed up instead of a generic email saying my account was restored.

OPs Opinion: Blizzard please! No sorry, nothing?

Blizzard updated Weasel Tunneler

Posted: 09 Jun 2017 08:20 PM PDT

So if you've followed the development of [[Weasel Tunneler]] you know that it doesn't behave in an expected manner. Specifically, friendly "on death" triggers won't trigger. This included [[Scavenging Hyena]], [[Redemption]], [[Getaway Kodo]], [[Duplicate]], etc.

Well, after doing some testing it seems Blizzard has quietly adjusted it. Secrets trigger, Hyena is buffed, etc.

On the other hand, [[Baron Rivendare]] no longer causes weird interactions. The deathrattle triggers, sending the minion to your opponent's deck, and then the process ends.

Edit2: I have tested it with [[Feign Death]] and other deathrattle trigger effects, and it works as expected: the targeted Weasel is immediately shuffled into the opponent's deck.

Another great change: You get your [[Explorer's Hat]] back. Previously, the Weasel would shuffle off the board and the hat would be lost. Blizz fixed that too.

Edit3: Unearthed Raptor does get shuffled into the opponents deck and seems to behave as expected. Bran + Raptor behaves exactly as Baron Rivendale did. That is: the Raptor is shuffled into the opponent's deck and stays there.

Edit4: Forgot to mention: I used the Bran + Shadowcaster + Raptor to stack the deathrattle a dozen times on a single raptor, and only ONE Raptor was shuffled into the opponent's deck. This honestly feels like a bug, but it may be a requirement for Blizzard's implementation to work.

Edit5: Spirit Echo does NOT work with Tunneler - after the minion dies a copy is sent to the opposing deck, but you do not get a copy of the card in your hand.

Final Edit: As a final note, the game still bugs out with regards to how many cards are in your deck when you start bouncing lots of Weasels. In my testing last night I had several incidents where I was in fatigue, but the UI still showed cards in my deck.

*Edit: Auto-correct butchered a few words

Blizzard has fixed the bug and exploit that got Toast banned

Posted: 09 Jun 2017 04:29 PM PDT

In the last few hours Blizzard fixed this bug. It no longer occurs. This bug let you win a game by doing a two card combo and crashing the game.

Before it was fixed I tested this* and had a 94% win rate using the bug to crash the game. It almost always worked for me.

*for science

Now I am seeing that the exploit combo no longer crashes the game. 100% fail rate.

Blizzard has fixed the exploit.

I will not explain how to do the exploit at this point, but I am sure as we further confirm that it is fixed, people will share what the exploit was.
See my comment below for info.

It's hard not to appreciate the work done by Ben Brode and Jeff Kaplan, but the games themselves get us worked up quite a lot, so I tried to reflect that in the picture. Thoughts?

FYI The Amara Healing Bug Was Fixed

Posted: 09 Jun 2017 07:08 PM PDT

Amara previously behaved differently than Alexstrasza. Alexstrasza would just set your hero's heath to 15, where Amara seemed to also heal. This caused an issue with Embrace the Shadow/Auchenai Soulpriest and another one with Majordomo.

There seems to have been a hot fix that corrected this problem.

What evil spawn of Satan decided to have arena gold rewards in multiples of 5?

Posted: 09 Jun 2017 04:23 PM PDT

I'm now at 12 arena runs since I got a 5 at the end of my gold count, and it only gives me multiples of 10 every time. Can anyone tell me how to round off my gold without relying on the luck of arena rewards?

When is it worth saving for the next expansion?

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 06:22 AM PDT

I currently have 560 gold after 2 weeks of saving and would like to know as a fairly new player (200 wins) whether to start saving gold now, I don't play arena and don't spend a massive amount on the game (about $20 so far but intending to preorder expansion) but want a few more of the ungoro decks. Should I spend my gold on packs or keep saving it up?

What are your worst crafting decisions so far?

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 05:31 AM PDT

This season I made some pretty terrible decisions. For starters, I crafted the warlock quest. We all know how that worked out. I also crafted Clutchmother Zavas because I figured that's what the cool guys do.

Then I crafted a hungry crab because a lot of people were playing quest shamans. Guess how many of those I've met since I crafted it.

Before the season started, I crafted Malygos...

Tavern Brawl idea: Build a deck, at the start of the game you have a 50% chance of swapping decks with your opponent.

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 09:07 AM PDT

If you make a crap deck for your opponent, there's equal chance you'll be playing your own crap deck. and vice versa, if you make an awesome deck you might end up giving it to your opponent. Although your opponent would have no idea what cards are in the deck outside of those in their current hand.
