I am 100% confident that there is now an arena offering bonus on weapons and Blizzard has not informed us of this.

Posted: 25 Jun 2017 05:27 AM PDT

Notes before I go into math:

1: There is a 1.75 bonus to spells and a 1.5 bonus to Ungoro cards. So, for every 1 of a class minion, you would expect to see 2.625 of an Ungoro spell of the same rarity.

2: These stats are taken from HSreplay's website and the cards people take. This is not an accurate representation of what is offered, but is close enough that the numbers I work out make no sense. The cards I use to prove this are about as close to 100% picked cards as there are in the game.

3: Blizzard at the beginning of the month made an unannounced change to Arena changing the Ungoro offering rates from 2.0 to 1.5 times more likely. They did not inform the Arena players about this, so it is entirely possible they made this change too without informing the playerbase.

Using the HSreplay.net site to look at random weird things in arena, I noticed that the offering rate of Fiery War Axe was .61 per deck. This to me stood out as a significant outlier, especially since there was no other non-Ungoro cards offered nearly as much as War Axe, including top tier minions like Highmane or Fire Elemental. For what its worth, in Arena, you always pick War Axe. Going back to my points at the top, .61 * 1.75 * 1.5 = 1.6, which means that if War Axe was a normal class card, you'd be expected to see 1.6 Ungoro spells/deck. From the previous spreadsheet on the expected offering rate on Ungoro cards, the expected rate was 1.4 with a 2 times offering bonus. To put this in comparison, there are .917 Spikeridged Steeds per Paladin deck. If there was no offering bonus on weapons, that means that roughly 43% of the time, people would be skipping steeds. That's impossible.

From here, I did more digging. The most popular class minions are Frothing Berserker in Warrior, .396/deck, and Fire Elemental in Shaman, .343 per deck. .35 * 1.75 = .6125, about the expected number of War Axes/Deck. .6125 * 1.5 = .91875, about the number of steeds per deck. The numbers here add up that Weapons are now offered at the same rate as spells.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE. Using the HSReplay.net website, you can click on individual cards, and see how much they were picked daily over the last two months. Warrior is barely picked, so you can't see the changes with them, so lets use Shaman as an example. Jade Claws, on roughly June 2nd, the 8.2.2 patch, had a sizeable increase. Stormforged Axe, sizeable increase. Eaglehorn Bow in Hunter, increase. Truesilver in Paladin, increase. Click on any normal minion, and there is no increase. Even accounting for offering bonus changed from 2.0 to 1.5, there's barely any change in non-Ungoro minions, and a significant change in non-Ungoro weapons. This to me is proof that there was a change to the offering bonus on weapons, and with my math earlier, that they are now offered as much as spells. This would coincide with the post a week and a half back about the relatively massive increase in Warrior winrate, that had to be from Blizzard actually intervening, which was almost universally dismissed as crazy talk on both /r/Hearthstone and /r/ArenaHS .

So, my question to Blizzard, because the only way to get any communication with Blizzard is to get upvoted on Reddit: What the fuck? How can you make massive changes to arena, two of them, and for weeks, not inform the playerbase? No patch notes post, no article on the website, not even a cryptic tweet from the Devs. We only knew about the Ungoro change because a Dev commented in the middle of a reddit thread, and no one in weeks has noticed this change until I thought something was wrong and went snooping. Why is it that the communication from the Hearthstone development team is so awful that multiple huge changes can happen to the Arena, and no one is informed about this?

Use Tavern Brawl to inject new cards into the game between expansions

Posted: 25 Jun 2017 03:20 AM PDT

The community seems agreed that four months is too long between expansions. Why not have one or two TBs two or three months after each expansion which reward five new cards, rather than a Classic pack. Un'Goro could have had 140 cards, or 145 cards - 135 cards are released with the expansion, and a couple months later, we get a couple of themed TBs with Elise the Trailblazer "telling a story". Presto - ten new cards added to the meta-game over the course of a couple weeks. Everyone loves getting free cards, more people will play the game between expansions. Ten cards isn't a lot, but they only have to tide us over for a month or so before spoiler season begins, and a new set is launched.

Thoughts?

edit - some people have suggested adding the TB cards to the regular expansion pack once the TB is no longer active, so that people who miss the TB can still get the cards whenever they purchase a pack. It seems like a good idea.

Weird bug involving MC Tech and Cone of Cold.

Posted: 25 Jun 2017 05:45 AM PDT

https://imgur.com/a/d5MO2

I played Cone of Cold on Prince Malchezaar, but it didn't freeze nor damage the panther.

The panther was previously stolen by MC Tech, which is likely the source of this bug (I don't know how though, probably due to pasta code).

Polished game EleGiggle

Edit: I still won this game, although it was really close. He had prince malchezaar, which put Yogg Saron in his deck, which gave him cabalists tome which gave him another cabalists tome.

I however got arcane intellect (which allowed me to draw to more cards from my deck) off of shimmering tempest which let me draw into fireball to end the game. I had 2 health after his yogg!

Crazy ending

Summer Jaina Cosplay by Heccu

Posted: 25 Jun 2017 02:04 AM PDT

http://wshe.es/Dhm70wal

Good day, friends! Heccu here.

Some of you already know me as a streamer that appears in the battle.net client and is a part of Blizzheroes official streaming schedule OR as an HOTS interviewer on my Youtube channel OR as a cosplayer that visited different HOTS related events (Road to Blizzcon, Gamescom, IEM Katowice e.t.c.).

Talking about the last:
Since it's summer and super hot (+30C where I live), I decided to make a summer version of my favorite cosplay, which is the costume of Jaina Proudmoore! The costume is based on her HS appearance :)

To this photo shoot I decided to add a little bit of lore:
After all the things that Jaina witnessed in Azeroth (the tensions between the Alliance and the Horde and the horrors of Theramore), she leaves for a vacation to try to bring back the peacefulness and the calmness that was once in her heart. Little she did know, she was not the only one who had that idea... so the dreadlord awakening might happen even sooner than anyone expected.

"Can a mage build a castle in peace... WITHOUT it getting destroyed?! Ok, I get it. You were not responsible for what happened in Theramore... But HOW is THIS an accident, Thrall?!".

This photo shoot is also my entry for Heroes of Summer, so feel free leave a vote! :)

P.S. as an add:
I do have a full costume :)

Collection feature idea

Posted: 25 Jun 2017 05:35 AM PDT

It would be cool feature if Blizzard could add a disenchant-like button in the collection where it showed your % of each set owned as well as % of each rarity owned in each set. This would obviously help people in deciding what type of packs to buy.

What happened to /r/hearthstone lately?

Posted: 25 Jun 2017 02:13 AM PDT

a few months ago the front page had diversity, but now it is /r/overwatch level of amounts of highlights. Just take a look at this : http://imgur.com/a/G0N72 As you can see, it gets a bit better at the bottom half, but the top of the front page is just dominated by highlights. Is there anything particular that made it change like this? Because as far as I remember, in previous expansions even later during the expansion the frontpage didn't change too much in terms of content, only leaning more towards complaints, but not anything like this.

Even more cards from /r/customhearthstone. You may notice that we're back to 11 cards in these albums rather than 10. That's right; the Weekly Design Competitions have returned to /r/customhearthstone! It's a simple contest that is held every week where a simple prompt is given for people to design around with the winner also being featured in these threads. I encourage you all to check this week's contest out and perhaps give it a shot yourself.

an interesting interaction with Swamp King Dred and Repentance (from the latest Tavern Brawl)

Posted: 24 Jun 2017 11:09 PM PDT

While playing against a paladin in the Webspinner brawl, he summoned a Swamp King Dred while he had Repentance in play and I had a Bittertide Hydra in hand. I hit Dred once with one of my Webspinners, then played the Hydra to finish him off. Hydra was put to -1 Health, and then Repentance triggered, setting it to 1. So I was able to kill the Dred and my Hydra survived because of the secret. It was a pretty unexpected interaction on my side, because I was thinking I wouldn't care if my Hydra died killing the Dred, especially because I thought Repentance would trigger first. Just thought I'd share this interesting interaction I experienced today.

(It's possible he played the secret before the Dred, but I don't remember the exact order. My apologies.)
