Daily Highlight Thread

Please share your gameplay highlights in this thread.

Upcoming Trial: Daily Highlight Threads

Hi all,

This week (starting Sunday night) we'll be trialing a potential rule change: Highlight threads are not permitted, and must instead be posted in a Daily Highlight Thread. If this change is made, this thread will be prominently displayed either in the Important section, via a banner, or some other way.

For the next week we'll be doing a sticky thread each day, and AutoModerator will direct users who submit highlights to this thread, and removing them.

We know this change will have a drastic effect on the landscape of the front page, and we also know changes like this make the mobile app experience less intuitive, and a bit more difficult even for desktop users. We're eager to hear feedback at the end of the week.

Whether or not this change goes through depends on many factors, but we'd like to see how this trial goes regardless of our intent to pursue the change.

Only showed her the highlight intros, the emotes, and the voice lines. She used to call Luigi, "Linguini" when I was a kid so I thought this would be worth a few yucks. Enjoy!

After we select a character it would be cool to show him/her in with the group instead of just showing our character individually.

Posted: 07 May 2017 09:47 AM PDT

When we make a selection on the character select screen it shows are individual selection. Wouldn't it be cool if instead from the get go we could start building camaraderie by visually seeing our team like in the victory screen.

Physics need not apply

I have found a solution for colorblind players to be able to see the enemy.

Posted: 07 May 2017 09:58 AM PDT

So last night I got so tired of not being able to see the enemy / trying to use Blizzard's crappy colorblind settings that I started digging into my graphic's card drivers. After changing a couple of things around I was able to make the enemy outline go from invisible to me to a bright greenish-yellow (I might be wrong about the color lol) and I can actually see them now! It makes the rest of the game look weird as hell, but I have been fed up enough to just adjust to it. Believe it or not, after a few games, this actually started to look normal to me:

http://imgur.com/fwvOqWq - I had to take an actual picture of my monitor so the pic is pretty bad quality, but you can clearly see the effect on the outline. I found out that screenshots and videos still have the normal colors. This is good if you like to record and share your videos but are also colorblind and want to use this to see.

I never even realized that most people can actually tell the enemy apart from their own teammates when everyone is all bunched up until now. I can now actually track the enemy on dark maps and don't lose track of them as soon as they move.

If you go to Nvidia Control panel (I'm not sure where to find this in AMD) then "Adjust desktop color settings" you will see options at the bottom for "hue" and "digital vibrance". The vibrance just tends to make the colors brighter and stand out more while the hue completely changes them. There is a bar of colors by the hue setting to show you what effects the current setting has on each color. I have always used bright green enemy colors in Quake so I moved the slider around until the red bar (the color of the outlines in overwatch) turned into the color I wanted. I personally use 80% digital vibrance and 87 degrees hue.

I hope this helps somebody out! I feel like I can't possibly have been the first person to stumble upon this, so my apologies if people already know about this. It has been a frustrating year of trying to adjust to being at a huge disadvantage because I can't see the enemy. It's crazy to think that we wouldn't have to make the game look all crazy and ruin most of the cosmetic items if blizzard would just incorporate a setting to change the color of the enemy's outline and maybe even allow us to thicken it a little bit. It would be so simple, but I think it's clear at this point that Blizzard has heard the colorblind community's cries many times and has decided not to do anything about it. It drives me nuts that red (the color the most people have trouble with) is universally used as the color for the enemy or their outline in games.

Edit: Replaced the picture with a better one. The first one was all wavy from being a bad pic and may head lead people to believe more than just the colors changed.

I also found that if you look at the area with the contrast and gamma settings, you can choose to change them only for the color red and increase the contrast. This helps the outline stick out a little more and could be valuable while trying to find something that works for you.

Blizz, could we get a "quick cast" option for Mei's wall?

Posted: 07 May 2017 04:15 AM PDT

Right now, in order to put up a wall, I have to hit E, maybe E again if I want to rotate it, and then click to actually put it down. It takes only a second, yes, but when you need a quick wall to block Earthshatter for example, it might be not fast enough.

In Heroes of the Storm there's a quick cast option, which basically sets it so that skills trigger when the button is released. So instead push -> point -> click you push the button, hold it while you're aiming, and as soon as you let go the ability triggers. If you just push it, it will immediately trigger where your pointer is. This is insanely helpful in fast fights.

Now Overwatch is not a MOBA, so there aren't many abilities to which this applies, but Mei's wall it one of them. With quick cast, as soon as you see Rein raising his hammer, all you need to to is push E and a wall will be deployed right in front of you (or wherever you're aiming), giving you a higher chance to block the shockwave.

So my idea is: hold E to trigger the wall, rotate with a mouse click, and put it down as soon as you let go.

Actually, all deployables could have this option, but it's probably most useful for the wall.

Thanks.

Anyone else feel that QP games are lower quality now?

Posted: 07 May 2017 11:20 AM PDT

When the game first came out and even into season 3, when you played QP people would play it to either practice new heroes or to have fun while trying to win. I've noticed after season 4 a large amount of QP games have someone intentionally trolling then saying "its just QP" when confronted about it. Has anyone else noticed this too?

Edit: By intentionally trolling i don't mean stuff like picking off meta heroes or anything. I mean stuff like Mei's walling off their team or bastions that spam hi while walking into the enemy team before dying. More recently players will pick Sombra and spam "boop" while never firing at the enemy

TIL Mercy's Year of the rooster skin has been renamed "fortune" instead of "golden".

Posted: 07 May 2017 05:56 AM PDT

When you go to the "weapons" tab in the hero gallery, it used to say <skin name> and Golden (for golden gun). It was very fun using Mercy's Golden skin and going into the weapons tab and there are 2 different types of "golden" (yo dawg). But today I tried doing that and not only does the non-golden variant say "DEFAULT" instead of skin name, Mercy's skin has now been renamed "Fortune". Perhaps this is old, but I noticed this just now.

Allow weapons from unlocked skins to be used with all unlocked skins.

Posted: 07 May 2017 01:48 PM PDT

This has likely been suggested, but I think it bares repeating.

Right now, we have two weapon skins on each hero; Standard and Golden. This idea would see all unlocked skins having their weapons select-able.

All weapons appear to have the same physics and shape regardless of the skin, so allowing them to be used in this manner shouldn't be terribly difficult.

Example; I really like Roadhog's Mako skin's Scrap Gun, but dislike the Mako skin itself, so if I could instead start using it on say, the stitched skin that would be phenomenal.

And, while we are here, why not give an example of which weapon you would use with which skin?

Can we get a Play Of The Day?

Posted: 07 May 2017 12:31 AM PDT

Its just easy, you look in your region and see who ever has scored most points in either shutdown, lifesaver and normal, and then just make it a leaderboard :D I would love to see other players plays :D

Edit: As u/MugetsuMusab said, you can watch them while you are in que

Edit 2: Two ides would be to be able to vote for the highlights and/or have Play Of The Day for each hero
