The International 2017: Main Qualifiers

Organized by Valve

Sponsored by Compendium Sales

The International is the focal point of the year for Dota 2 tournaments that serves as the world championship for the sport. Hosted by Valve Corporation in Seattle's Key Arena, 10,000 fans will witness the crowning of the best team in the world. But before that happens, 12 teams must battle it out to earn their spot to fight for the Aegis of Champions.

Valve, you will make 80 Million+ with this year's TI BattlePass alone, please invest 0,001% of it into a new website

Posted: 25 Jun 2017 02:37 AM PDT

The layout is still based on Source 1 Dota, Hero and Item Page shows outdated information and it's super boring overall. I think after like 7 years it deserves an update.

Ok, with the BattlePass alone might be wrong, but with Steam Market Taxes, merchandises, Trove Carafe and Lockless Luckvase they should reach the 80 million pretty easy

Fuck you, VP.No[o]ne

Posted: 25 Jun 2017 05:16 AM PDT

I don't usually watch streams but ran out of series to watch today and opened twitch. Clicked Dota 2. Clicked most popular live stream of player VP.No[o]ne. Watched 15 minutes. Saw him be toxic, flame and then proceed to rage buyback and destroy his items 25 minutes into a ranked game where his team had not lost any rax yet.

Sincerely from the bottom of my heart, fuck you, kind sir No[o]ne. Seeing these 15 minutes of twitch has helped me suddenly much better understand why there so many toxic players intentionally ruining games of dota 2 that I'm trying to enjoy. As much as young boys mimic the hairstyles of their favorite football players, they take cue for their behavior and playstyles from eSports athletes they see in tournaments.

I understand that emotional maturity is not everybody's strongest suit and that is absolutely fine. But at the moment, you are not just neutral, you are in fact part of the worst kind of cancer of our community, No[o]ne.

I demand that you apologize to all of us who have to deal with the ripple effects of your immature behaviour in our pubs and stop intentionally ruining ranked games, especially on stream. Forever. This is not excusable. Everybody gets mad and rages, I know. Everybody goes on a rant on what their teammates did wrong after dying in a fight, I know. But it is not ok to sometimes destroy items and feed down mid. NOT EVEN ONCE. It is unacceptable.

The addressee of this rant will probably never read this but to anyone who ever will: stop following and rooting for players who are spreading toxicity into the community of our beloved sport and pastime - Dota 2. Do not root for VP.No[o]ne. Watch somebody else's stream. Bleed the color of another team for TI. Until it is unequivocally condemned by said athletes, boycott them. Be an activist and change Dota a little bit to the better.

If you work at valve, vote against inviting such players to events in any capacity, regardless of their technical skills.

EDIT1: I am happy that this has become a popular and controversial discussion. Among fruitless slurs, some good points have been raised in the comments that I want to briefly address.

(these are not really quotes but summaries of ideas)

It will always be like this. It comes with package

a. I am optimistic that this is not the case. For instance, the community was way friendlier back in Garena. And, if you look at other major sporting communities or organisations, then it's normal that it takes time. NBA, International Olympic Committee etc etc have all come a long way. I suggest we start moving now.

Other streamers do it too, it's unfair to single out this guy but not EG etc.

a. Everybody should be treated equally. I don't support a specific team or player, I just opened twitch and watched the most popular stream at that exact moment. I have no bias in that regard.

Only skill should be taken into account for invites and other such things

a. This is already not true. Players have been banned for 322. There is clearly a precedent of exceptional cases where going against the core values of the competition means you will not be invited, regardless of skill.

b. This is not true at any other major sporting event. Athletes have been barred participation at the Olympics for public racist or gayshaming. Once again having to do with contradicting a core value of the event.

c. Ultimately the exact deciding factors for invites are unknown as it stands and allow for such flexibility already. There could easily have been somebody in the Valve meeting room saying "let's invite these guys, they are easily marketable".

Only an idiot decides based on 15 minutes of stream

a. The very point I am trying to make is that we should strive for 0 tolerance. It is never ok to destroy items or intentionally feed.

If you don't want to, you don't have to watch the stream. He can do what he wants.

a. This is absolutely true but does not imply freedom from consequences. Organisers of The Summit are free to not invite a player or team known for such behavior. So is Valve. And most importantly, I am calling upon everybody who agrees with me to be more militant and assert that this is not ok by shifting their attention.

It is silly to demand an apology.

a. It might be silly to use the word demand but the point stands. I want No[o]ne to react to this and I want him to man up and take some responsibility. At the very least we cannot ignore this influence popular players have on the Dota 2 experience we all end up getting.

Saying "fuck you" and "cancer" in this post undermines the PMA idea.

a. Yes, phrasing was probably not the best. I was really angered because when I have bad games, I think about how it could be improved (such as a better report system) and today I guess it hit me that this absolutely stupid and silly thing exists.

b. I used this title to get more attention to this important issue.

Can we just get an Abed tracker in the side bar so we don't clutter the sub with posts about every game he wins/loses?

Only half kidding.

Cancel is a cool guy, he sounded so upset and thought it was his fault that his team lost. Let's all give him some love man. He sounded so down I even felt sorry for him just listening to him saying it was his fault and that he was sorry. You shouldn't be upset man we all have losses in dota 2 and hopefully we all learn from them. Cheer up dude :)
