To foster more discussion about the games every Sunday we turn the subreddit into self-post only mode.

Self-Post Sundays are our main discussion day. On those days we only allow text posts directly about the games themselves.

Please save your images, fan art, screenshots, videos, etc to the other days of the week. Use this day to discuss the games. Other posts will be removed.

[BOTW] Guide: New Dinraal Farming Method

Posted: 25 Jun 2017 06:37 AM PDT

Hello r/zelda/!

After scouring the internet, the best guide I could find for farming Dinraal was to go to the leviathan skeleton north of Death Mountain. However, many people complained that it was not an easy/quick location to get to, it was surrounded by difficult enemies, and you had to shoot Dinraal from below, which in my opinion isn't always easy to hit the part you are aiming for.

As this wasn't ideal, I decided to find a method of my own. This is my first guide, so bear with me.

Just a note: you need to have completed the the Shrine of Power shrine quest before farming.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

1) Full Flamebreaker armor, upgraded at least to level 2. This will prevent Dinraal from shooting you out of the air and burning you.

2) Wood. Really, you can get away with one bundle, but bring a few just in case.

3) A way to light fires. Whether this is a flame weapon, some flint and metal, or fire arrows, it's up to you. I brought a flame spear.

4) A bow that shoots straight, and lots of arrows. I prefer using the golden bow because you can find several of them just wandering around Gerudo, and I don't like any guesswork when aiming.

WHERE TO SET UP

As you may or may not know, Dinraal has a habit of flying down through the Tabantha Canyon (possible that he actually carved the canyon?). Start by warping to Dunba Taag Shrine. Once there, go out of the cave, and climb or GaleTM up above the shrine, where you'll see a windmill. Lay your bundle of wood at the base of the windmill, and light it.

FARMING

Sit by the fire until night. Then, climb the windmill to the first landing, and wait. Dinraal usually shows up right at or around 10PM, so you won't have to wait long. Here he is poking his head around the corner, and here he is with the HUD turned on so you can see the time.

As he gets closer, you'll notice an updraft. Jump off and use that updraft to get real up close and personal. In this shot, I'm aiming for a fang. The best part about this method: many times, the part flew off and actually went right back to my windmill camp, as seen here, so I didn't have to go chase it down into the canyon. If the part does fly off elsewhere, mark it with your scope to pick up later. The parts won't disappear if you camp again. Return to your fire, wait until night, and rinse and repeat.

And that's it! Let me know your thoughts, and feel free to give any additional pointers. I also welcome any criticism or advice since this is my first time writing up a guide like this. :)

Anyone else finish BotW and suddenly have a desire to play Skyward Sword?

Posted: 24 Jun 2017 08:52 PM PDT

Breath of the Wild seems to capture so much I love about the series; the adventure, exploration, cool locations/environment and secrets

Skyward Sword perfects the other half of that joy of Zelda that BotW didn't quite get this time around that I also love about the series, such as storytelling, extremely creative boss fights, imaginative dungeons, and HOOKSHOTS!!!

both of these games I love so much, and the fact that they can be opposite ends of a sphere and still both be fantastic games is a testament to the true artistry of the developers.

How is Skyward Sword pacing in comparison with TP/OoT and ALTTP?

Posted: 25 Jun 2017 09:12 AM PDT

First off, I know that it won't be "Botw level of freedom", which is the perfect scenario for me.

So, I must say that the first hours of TP, and the whole child part of OoT are absolutely horrendous for me. What keeps me from replaying those games is that I always remember that I have to go through almost 10 hours of a soulless world that doesn't offer any danger and at the same time doesn't have almost anything interesting in it.

ALTTP, on the other hand, is a game with a world that feels 1000 times more interesting than the one in TP and OOT. Even though the map is much smaller, every single screen on it feels like there's something for you to do, with enemies to kill, places to explode, pits to fall and explore, etc.

THat being said, how is Skyward Sword pacing comparing to those games? Do you often have to take hours upon hours of unfun quests until you get to a dungeon? Being that the case, the world is at least well constructed in the sense that is fun to explore it?

[BoTW]Edited/Touched Up ScreenCaps (x-post /r/Breath_of_the_Wild)

Posted: 25 Jun 2017 01:08 AM PDT

Hey all! I finally finished my first play through of BotW and I loved it! Anyhow, I was taking screen shots along the way (most of the time I forgot to :X) and was very disappointed with the quality when I started to look through them all :( If you check the histogram on any screenshot, it's like the Switch throws away all the highlights and shadows for the sake of small file size >.> Anyways, I decided to scale them up to 1080 and edit/touch up all of my good screenshots to give them a little life :D

Here are a couple before/after shots and if that interests you, here are all 68!

Enjoy!

Just started Link Between Worlds for the first time.

Posted: 24 Jun 2017 07:14 PM PDT

Liking the game a lot so far. Gorgeous looking, and the 3D is phenomenal. Hate the rental system with a passion, so I farmed for rupees and bought Ravio's entire store as soon as possible (except the sand rod).

So... I'm wondering. Does a map of Weathervanes and Portals exist? I tried Googling it and found nothing like it.

I know it's a longshot (heh) for such an old game, but I figured maybe somebody here has one?

Breath Companion App - the smoothest way to get 100%

Posted: 25 Jun 2017 05:46 AM PDT

First, I would like to thank you for your overwhelming feedback regarding my app "Breath Companion". Currently the app is a perfect support to achieve 100% in Breath of the Wild. However, this is no reason to stop but to extend the app. If you got some ideas, I'll be glad to hear them. Unfortunately, I won't implement specific localizations apart from English. Doing so has no reasonable relation of cost and work compared to the created benefit. Right now, the app isn't profitable anyways. Work and license fees are creating more cost than revenue is created.

As the first DLC will be released soon, I want to advertise this app to give new players and Zelda veterans some support. The main focus of this app (map, progress tracking, checklists and more) is completely free for everyone. If you want to support me and this app, you will be able to get some additional data and information regarding Breath of the Wild or you can remove the ads. Of course, these are in-app-purchases (IAPs). However, these are not mandatory for the main focus of this app. If you are interested in these IAPs you will have the chance between Monday 26th of June and Saturday 8th of July to get them at up to 50% discount (depending on region and product).

Additionally, I want to address some of the current bugs of the app. Under iOS it can happen, that the restore of IAPs redeemed from vouchers fails. Therefore, I didn't include some codes this time. If you want to see the status of this issue, you'll be able to do this here: Restore from redeemed codes does not work (iOS) #51. Under Android some devices have issues with the map download. Unfortunately, I couldn't track this down up to now. It may be caused by some antivirus software or insufficient storage. Some users can resolve this issue by storing the app within the internal storage of the device.

So, the time has come to prepare for the first DLC and reach 100% in Breath of the Wild. This app can support you and will be a great companion throughout your adventures. I wish everyone - if you will use my app or not - a lot of fun with Zelda and the upcoming content.

Question about "Destroy Ganon" in BotW

Posted: 24 Jun 2017 09:33 PM PDT

So I finally beat the game(had it since launch) but for the main quests will "Destroy Ganon" always be active? Like not faded out? Game says I have 14/15 quests complete

Toughest enemy in the franchise.

Posted: 24 Jun 2017 03:44 PM PDT

What the title says. I'd love to hear what people think is the toughest enemy, not boss, regular enemy. I'll include minibosses too. Feel free to share an experience you had with these enemies.

Legend of Zelda NES 2nd Quest

Posted: 24 Jun 2017 06:46 PM PDT

I'm guessing this won't get any feedback. I am starting the Legend of Zelda Nes 2nd quest. I did first quest, but already knew where everything was. I am wondering how hard is it? Is there in game hints to where things are? It seems very hard so far, I really don't know what to expect.

Map Size Question

Posted: 24 Jun 2017 11:44 PM PDT

Has anybody tried scaling the size of the map from the Bird-Man Assistant minigame in Ridgeland Tower? That tells you the number of meters crossed right there, so shouldn't that be a whole lot more accurate than assumptions about Link's height and such with awkward camera angles?
