Could Valve be measuring interest in a standalone RPG based on Dota lore?

First off: Valve has a history of measuring interest by just flinging stuff to the wall and seeing what sticks, or using post-leaks (including code hinting at future changes and taking note from potential backlash in the community).

I was thinking about Siltbreaker. Could it be that Valve, or at least the team working on Dota, is toying with the idea of creating a standalone RPG based on Dota lore, and Siltbreaker is their way of measuring interest in something like it?

I mean, there is so much lore that a lot of it can be used for quests.

Hell, they could hire the Torchlight devs to make it for them. They will be done with their new game probably late this year and must be looking for a new venture to sink their teeth in. Include a character creator. Have players encounter our heroes as NPC's in te game, with some of them being recruitable.

I mean, they have the tech. They have the lore. They have the playerbase. And maybe now, they have a measure at how popular such an endeavour would be. Price it for about 15-20€ on the market and I'm sure milions of copies will be sold.

Valve might not be making single-player games anymore as it involves so much hoops to go through, but most of the variables in this case are set. They just have to fill them in.

And, seeing as Valve spends most of their time reading reddit anyway, why not upvote this if you like the idea of a standalone Dota RPG.

Anyone wish Dota 2 had a story mode?

Each hero gets their own story mode on how they ended up in the defense of the ancients. Cutscenes doesnt have to be 3d, it could be like a comic style like metal gear solid peace walker. The ending for each hero could be like those post credits black screen marvel movies where it says: "hero enters the war of the ancients". You see them spawn in the river, they look to their left and right, contemplating whether to go to the dire or radiant. They smirk at the camera and walk off to whatever side. Fade to black. This could work as a hero tutorial as well.

...i hope valve doesnt make this a 32 mil stretch goal. Lol.

I just created an item from two different items that I didn't want combined (by mistake, it happens), but I wasn't able to disassemble it due to my current death state. After reviving, the option to do that was not there any more.

If someone who has a phone number added to their account finds the match, players which haven't added a phone number are able to queue for party ranked matchmaking.

Seeing the burned in marks on the map during a game would be very cool, the sword effect for PA was amazing and should be used on the other arcanas where it is possible.

If spell is on cd and you don't have mana for it, it should show in chat when you ping it!

Currently it only show spell is on colddown even when you don't have mana it will only show CD for some reason.

In some situation it can be tricky because ur teammate see that u have CD 5 sek and he gonna think u are going in fight after 5 sek but u can't because no mana.

Valve, I honestly want to give you more money, but there is no reason to level the compendium above ~400

From level 383 until level 1000, where you get the Aegis, there's no real incentives to get more levels.

There need to be more cool things that make you want to level up.

I mean, dagon/maelstrom effects are cool, but you get one of those items like 1 in 8 games. It's just not that exciting. Some ideas:

  • More token bonuses

  • Levels with multiple chests (like level 375)

  • Levels with 3 CM wheel spins,

  • +1 chance in riptide rumble

  • More chatwheel responses

I'm tired of the game going down when they go on break. Idk if there is a union for the coordinators but they should have some more power to get more people in the position. theyre slaving for hours just for my enjoyment i want them properly compensated. Clearly game is down right now due to the game coordinator strike going on due to them not getting enough compensation.
