"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." - Ferris Bueller

True back then, true today. Life does move pretty fast, just as posts move pretty fast on /r/DestinyTheGame. Once a week, "This Week in /r/DestinyTheGame History" brings you some of the gems from this time last year. It's a walk down memory lane to give some perspective of where we were and how things have (or haven't) changed in the last trip around the Sun.

Maybe you made the post, maybe you saw the post, maybe you missed the post. Relive it or discover it for the first time. Either way, we hope you enjoy this blast from the past.

  1. I want the Black Garden to be an explorable hellhole of a maze full of fat loots.
  2. Let us remember Oryx today, not as a tyrannical king who wanted to destroy everything in the universe, but as a father who loved his children.
  3. Bungie, Can We Please Get An Emote Wheel In RoI?
  4. A quarter of a million Guardians of the DestinyReddit
  5. Proof RoI is Destiny's Last Expansion
  6. Destiny Play Of The Game (Overwatch Parody)
  7. Y1 Raids: Adopt the Drop
  8. Just want to thank Banshee 44 for not having any crucible test weapons this week.
  9. What's the official religion of the Cabal Empire?
  10. Heroic Strikes will NOT include Trickle

Art, my FWC Hunter

Posted: 17 Jun 2017 05:30 AM PDT

Well I promised I'd paint my Hunter and here he is, he's not too flashy but he's always been with the FWC and I've always liked the look of Iron Breed Sleeves. Gunslinger obviously. :)

EDIT : I should add that this is a digital painting, in case there is confusion.

Why I'm Looking Forward to Midnight on Sept. 5th

Server queues.

Don't disappoint, Bungie. I want to see 7 digits.

The first thing I'm going to do in the beta is explore every inch of the crumbling tower.

Posted: 17 Jun 2017 07:29 AM PDT

I know a lot of it will be blocked off, but I want to just look around and soak it in. Stand in that spot where I zoned into the tower countless times... See where Rahool stood for 3 years and poured salt in my eyes. See where me and my friends used to have dance parties next to the postmaster. Maybe pause for a moment of silence next to the vault. Jump up onto the postmaster building and see if the fan got ruined. Look at the tree near the gunsmith that I could never quite climb right. Look out over the abyss where the speaker once stood, and look out over the railing where Xur was commonly found.

I just want to look at it all and remember what was once there... and then go and kick Ghaul's ass for destroying it all. (In September... -_- )

TTK Subclasses MIGHT return in Destiny 2 with EVIDENCE.

Posted: 17 Jun 2017 03:13 AM PDT

I managed to screenshot some images from the Destiny 2 Reveal Event which shows the 3 classes channeling Light that is related to the Subclasses from The Taken King:

http://imgur.com/a/Auhti

Not convinced? Here is further evidence.

In a video from Destiny Reveal Event, you can see 2 more slots beside the Dawnblade Subclass Icon. This means that there is a high chance of each class having 3 subclasses at launch:

http://imgur.com/a/AeOgs

Ikora did use Thunderstrike in the first trailer for Destiny 2. Zavala did use Ward of Dawn in the trailers too and it is coming back, and Cayde was fan firing the golden gun, a feature that was in game too. So there is hope.

For the love of Bungie Balls, I hoped that the TTK Subclasses are in Destiny 2. It will really make this community very very happy. If this dream is false, I will feel like a gold fish with exploding diarrhoea in a fish tank.

Wrong Questions for the Right Guy

Posted: 17 Jun 2017 02:03 AM PDT

I posted this thread that received very mixed responses. https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/6hbh58/luke_smith_truly_feels_they_wrapped_up_the_exo/

I wanted to clear up how I think of Luke Smith as a game developer.

I wish I titled that thread what I titled this one. "Wrong Questions for the Right Guy". I truly think Luke Smith is a great asset on the bungo team. I would never ask for them to get rid of him. His opinions and view on how a raid should work and how to utilize teamwork in a team event is exactly what I want to see.

It's just when an interviewer asks him a question about something he didnt create his answer tends to upset the fans of said question topic. He just all together seemed to not care about the exo stranger. Which is fine, he didnt create her. Ask the person who created her and I bet shes one of their favorite parts of the game.

In the end I blame the interviewers for making Smith look bad. He is the right guy being asked the wrong questions.

That is all. Have fun out their guardians. Be safe. Be nice to each other. And warlock master race.

Are D2's weapon loadouts too PVP focused?

Posted: 17 Jun 2017 06:55 AM PDT

The more I think about it and the more information I see about D2 and the new weapon system, I feel they are trying to address D1's problems with weapon balance in PVP by overhauling the weapons and where they go. Here are a few points I see in no particular order:

Special weapons that were annoying OHKs being put into the heavy slot (power). This limits the number of kills from those weapons.

Only one person gets heavy ammo per crate. Reduces the number of OHK opportunities.

Removal of machine guns from the game entirely since one brick could potential have someone going on a Reign of Terror with the number of kills that could be generated from one drop.

How is a Rocket Launcher supposed to be on par with a shotgun regardless of ammo inventory?

The biggest issue here is that PVE is being adversely affected IMO. I know a few people have brought this up and I know I haven't played the game yet, but in PVE mowing down mobs with a HMG seems a lot more satisfying than getting 4-5 kills with a shogun, especially since right now you can do both simultaneously. The ammo economy as it is in PVE can be dismal at times so we would be going from having sufficient sniper/shotgun/fusion ammo to running two primaries for most activities unless heavy ammo synths constantly just to have sniper ammo.

The non-PVP issue to address is Kinetic vs. Energy. We all know that elemental primaries were considered game breaking (which I disagree with), so the best way for them to address that is to take away special weapons (or in this case move them into the heavy category) and give you two primary slots. <sigh> How can they called these Freedom slots when you are being forced to run two primaries and two weapon categories are being forced into one? I guess I have grown comfortable with the current weapon system and feel the one moving forward is meant to address so called problems with the game.

I look forward to playing the Beta and seeing how this new system works but I am moving forward with skepticism.

Thank you Destiny

Posted: 16 Jun 2017 04:06 PM PDT

This post is only to thank the people who created Destiny, while being deployed to the Middle East, my Fiancée and I could only contact each other for an hour or so every day, it was a very lonely time in my life, being stuck in the desert with my loved ones being 10,000 km away on the other side of the globe. We found that Destiny allowed us to form up in a fire team and the first time in months I felt like I was in the same room as the woman who I fell in love with, it felt like I was home, with her on my shoulder once again. We played Prison of Elders non-stop while I was gone and it really helped. in the comments is the picture I snapped of us playing, me (Titan) being in the Middle East, and my Fiancée (Hunter) being home.

Thank-you to the crew of Destiny, thank you so much for giving me the ability to be with my loved one once again while I was away.

Edit: This blew up much more than I thought it would. Thank-you to everyone who took their time to comment, and Thank-you to the Guardian gilded my post

Criticism =\= Salt

Posted: 16 Jun 2017 07:02 PM PDT

Before we tear each other apart, let's all remember we are all here for one reason. Bringing together the Destiny community. Now with the release of information about Destiny 2, salt and criticism are not the same thing. Someone who is "salty" generally has a connotation that they are unjustifiably angry over something fairly inconsequential. For example, someone who complains they missed a snipe and then gets killed can be considered salty. What's not salty is making valid criticism about things in Destiny. For example, I don't like that they are removing Grimoire. It was a major part of Destiny 1 for me. I boast a high Grimoire score and enjoy reading the lore often. Seeing the method of how we recieve lore stripped away is terrifying. There is no information about any sources of lore in Destiny 2 except for the main storyline so I am angry and criticized how Bungie handled this. That isn't being salty. Now that is just one example. There are many valid opinions, and we shouldn't dismiss someone as "salty" for criticizing something valid they dislike. Many people are criticizing things like frame rate, lack of dedicated servers, no private matches, and lack of subclass costumization to name a few. As we continue these next few months where heated opinions are going to be exchange don't dismiss someone with a valid argument as "salty" just because you don't agree with them. Try to see where they are coming from and know someone may see your opinions like you see theirs.

TL:DR don't call someone salty just to dismiss their opinion. Try to see it through their eyes and allow them to have their opinion.

Edit: Grimoire was just an example, I'm talking about critics in general. Don't dismiss someone as salty just because they dislike a change.

Edit 2: again, I understand there is little to no info about lore, it was just an example. Ignore the actual opinion and just try to understand I am trying to make it so that people don't just get shot down for criticizing something without being a jerk

Miniature Vitalis on IO? Secrets in Worlds of Destiny 2

Posted: 17 Jun 2017 10:31 AM PDT

I was rewatching the Worlds of Destiy 2 video, and at the end (bottom right) it shows a miniature Vitalis on the new planet IO. For those who don't know what the Vitalis is, it's the big machine thing found in the Speaker's tower.

What is it? Why is there one on IO? What's its purpose and are there more of them? We know that IO is the last place the Traveler touched before the Collapse. It's a sacred place for Guardians, particularly Ikora and Warlocks. Why do you guys think it's there? I really hope we get more answers than questions in Destiny 2.

Some other things that caught my eye in the same video were:

  1. A Shard (of the Traveler?) seems to be corrupting the forest and rivers in EDZ.

  2. Some kind of miniature sun (planet's core?) deep in IO or Nessus.

I'd love to hear some theories on what those are.

[Fan Art] Better Call Ghaul

Posted: 16 Jun 2017 03:41 PM PDT

An ever-increasing army of guardians giving you grief by;

  • Using OP weapons to effortlessly murder your brothers in arms?
  • Finding increasingly ridiculous ways to slaughter your glowstick-looking son?
  • Making your best attempts at slaughtering them seem like a joke and then dancing just to rub it in?

Then you'd Better Call Ghaul

With only one episode of Better Call Saul left to air and D2 on the horizon, I thought I'd mourn/celebrate with the most obvious of mashups.

The Role of Sidearms in D2

Posted: 17 Jun 2017 10:43 AM PDT

I'm a newer player, so I don't have too much historical context of the role sidearms have played in D1 since release, but with the new weapon system in D2 I can't help but think it's kind of a weird situation. The main thing I enjoy about having a sidearm is the ability to have a reliable secondary that will consistently have ammo to finish enemies off with at close range. With the revamp of the weapon system in D2, we will essentially be able to have two primary weapons. This being the situation, do we have any information on if sidearms are changing now that they are essentially a primary? Do we see them become similar to hand cannons, or will they provide some other form of utility?

A random apologized to me because he use his super.

Posted: 17 Jun 2017 12:23 PM PDT

I was helping out some 390-393 players in VoG. We were at oracles and this randy says "sorry, I had to". I was like, had to do what? He apologized for using his tether. I told him there is no need to apologize. Just use it when you have it to make orbs so we can use our supers. He didn't use his tether the remaining part of oracles. Has anyone else had this happen? In the 3100 plus hours I have in this game, that was a first.

Edit spelling

Destiny 2 Press Kit Gallery

Posted: 16 Jun 2017 09:57 PM PDT

So I went to check out the press kit images and MAN was that page annoying (protip: you can shift-click to select a group for adding to cart) so I decided that once I was finished downloading all the images I'd throw them on to imgur for ease of viewing. This turned out to be a bigger mission than I though since a majority of the pictures were anywhere between 4K-8K resolution and the entire gallery clocked in at about 2.66GB. So I resized and optimized the images for upload (got the entire gallery down to 73.9MB) then uploaded them for your viewing pleasure.

If there's anything you want me to add let me know.

Destiny 2 Press Kit Gallery for your eyeballs

Edit: Added link to the press kit source (thought I had already lol). You can't view them on the website, you have to add them to a cart and download them; you can click one image/file and then shift click on another image/file to select everything in between them.
