| Posted: 18 Jun 2017 10:18 AM PDT Hey Guardians, So i survived the first public E3 and was able to play the Strike mission, Inverted Spire and the new Crucible mode, Countdown- both for PS4. Although I play for Xbox 1 I'm familiar with PS controls from playing at friends houses, regardless that didn't phase my impressions. Im an avid D1 player maxing out my light and visiting the lighthouse and collecting the best and favored gear, put in over 1k hours so I have a good idea of the pros and cons with D1. So before I get into it, these game builds are ALPHA. Jeremiah, designer for crucible and trials had told me this while I played the new Strike. Overall, and for an Alpha build, the game feels very VERY TIGHT. It feels very similar to how Overwatch's beta felt (excluding character balancing, which balancing in D2 was apparent) The combat and gameplay was what we come to know and love from D1 and Bungie. It was tight and refined more than ever. I was having so much fun playing that only briefly I had time to admire how the games visuals have evolved. It definitely looks better than D1 but dont expect photorealism as Bungie never intended that aesthetic even from their earlier games. I will also note that the weapons available varied from class to class. When I played the strike i was a DawnBlade Warlock. The new super is awesome and gives you the same feeling as Hammers from a titan. The blades arc like grenades as you slash them down to the ground. I tried it with boots on the ground and it isn't as effective as hovering above. You get about 8 to throw out. I didnt take note to the amount of damage but its enough to make it an awesome Super. For load out I rocked an Auto with the exotic SMG they showed off. Rocket launcher for power weapon slot. Each weapon felt like they should and had their place. The Auto was a strong automatic rifle that felt great with slight recoil. The SMG feels like the ones from Halo and thats a good thing, super fast and quick reload, what an auto side arm should feel like. Never used the power weapon so sorry cant comment on that. I switched to the Vanguard hand cannon and kept the exotic sidearm. Hand cannons are back, they feel great as they did in early D1 when everyone was happy with them. I learned later that you could switch nodes for the subclass but I'll get to that later. The grenades are as you'd expect they would be, Fusion. No major changes there. Enemies were challenging and the boss battle was really fun. They added some depth to the formula with this one, having the elemental damage change and the arena change as well. Also having parts come off the boss as the more damage you put in was a nice touch that you were actually doing something to him. The war beasts are like Thrall but faster and they ram you with their heads. Also the dual bladed Cabal are a fun option and are a good foe to face. phalanx shields are transparent instead of a big sheet of metal. They extend and expand from a center handle. I can go in about the little things but the major changes come to the guardians and the crucible itself Countdown is a really cool mode most of people i was playing with nicknaming it Search and Destroy or SnD. I wont explain how it works as that can be found directly from Bungie. But with the changes I said above to the Guardian loadout and how the game feels, the crucible is much much better. Theres not this chaotic feel to the game anymore. The score is always position center top of the HUD as well as your team and the others Subclasses and Supers. Deej has mentioned that all Crucible is 4v4, so if thats true than Trials will be way different and IMO better. You dont have to guess what the other team is running and you can see who is dead/has super/etc. as well as the new weapon system, theres no unfairness with shottys and snipers since they are in the Power Weapon slot and can only choose one and only get it with Power ammo. So the battle becomes more about primarys which is better IMO. Depending on the gun and the perks, this gives the power back to the player and not the load out where people use god roll shottys to hit you from across the map and etc. This is all based on what I played. There could be exotics that change this initial Meta. Hopefully no icebreaker/no lands will show up or have a better fit. Scout rifles are nice and feel like the Halo 5 DMR, its a bit slow but since the gameplay slowed down a tad from D1 its not terrible, just hoping for a MIDA perked one for that trigger finger. During my time i played Acrstrider and Gunslinger Hunters. The new subclass Arcstrider is awesome. The new super is like Blade dancer but doesn't seem to travel as much which for Crucible is better for balancing. But they give you that AoE slam and a slash perk too that sends a wave out. Hunters also have to side powers. Shade step or a spin dodge, both the same effect i thought. Double tapping Circle/B will activate this. Also for the Warlock pool ability it was Hold Circle/B instead. I didnt go head to head with supers so i dont know the balance there. Golden Gun is basically Last Word but one shot or st least close to one shot. I think it falls off with range but i fan hammered 3 guys on the CP and it was awesome. Definitely what Cayde-6 does in the trailer. I dont main a Hunter but it was fun playing one. So after all my play thrus i can safely say im more excited about D2 than I previously was. Its more of the same but better. Its not drastic, which some people were hoping but why change something if it works. And in this case it worked really well. Most of my impressions are from PvP and thats a good thing since thats where most of D1s problems are. The change to weapons and power weapons changes the meta and how the game flows. 4v4 is so much better than anything else. Bungie seems to be taking cues from their Halo days and going back to that MP world. For the better since Halo 5 is one of the best FPS PvPs out their for console currently (in esports world) Im really excited to see how the weapon meta turns out when people get more time with it. Its refreshing that people dont horde snipers and sidearms anymore. I also noticed that when i played Hunter for the second time, in the subclass menu, you can unlock abilities with an exotic shard, not sure of how that works but the tree system is broken-down in a mor cohesive way. It looked like the Director Screen for The Reef where you have POE and the branches coming off of it. Like a grenade node and then options coming out. Same for other abilities. Posted: 18 Jun 2017 08:52 AM PDT Some days ago I noticed I was about to hit my total 1000th raid and I was also having 1 raid short from total 600th King's Fall. There wasn't too many thing I hadn't tried before and decided to throw in pretty much anything I could think of. I picked the fireteam from 4 different raid groups I'm part of (semi-)regular. Some of the players never had played with each others so the party chemistry can be good or bad. I told the guys I was running with certain modifiers and told them to play in a way they want; with modifiers or no. I think one or two players had some of the modifiers on too. Before starting the raid we didn't have a talk who is taking which role, so people had to quickly pick their roles. As of no way telling which role I was about to do I just had to keep my eyes open. Our run in my POV: No Mic, No HUD, Muted TV, Greyscale artifact - part 1 No Mic, No HUD, Muted TV, Greyscale artifact - part 2 Note: I had never tried No HUD, muted TV nor artifact that gives some kind of a color filter. Some minutes before the raid someone joked about doing inverted camera settings. After few seconds in, that seemed like big NOPE since we were aiming for sub hour run. Didn't want this to turn up for a carry run so I had to switch my camera settings to normal. Thank you fireteam, friends and everyone who have ever dared to raid with a micless noob like me. It was a pleasure raiding with each and every of you. I think my time with a Destiny 1 is almost over. Instead of another boss where your best bet was Black Spindle, you had a much larger array of weapons to use along with snipers like Dark Drinker, Cluster Bomb rockets, and even the Sunsinger's Solar grenades. It's neat how a simple thing like that can make otherwise overlooked weapons and powers be viable without changing the weapons themselves. Posted: 17 Jun 2017 04:53 PM PDT When I think about how lore is/has been integrated into D1, my instant thought is that mission, where you explore Bannerfall and ghost tells you all these stories about Lysander, New Monarchy and the Concordat between objectives. While its not a big thing to current stories that take the focus in D1, it's important because it's the wider lore of the game world. I'll be both very impressed and very happy if D2 has that level of lore-inclusion on a regular basis. | The best round of pvp I have ever played! Posted: 17 Jun 2017 07:12 PM PDT A while back my highest k/d was 24. 1 kill away from the "we ran out of medals" medal. I tried and tried and got close (need 25 kills and no deaths for it) but always came up short. I finally went ham and ended up 31-0. I had 11 assists on this round as well. This was probably one of the hardest things I have done in any pvp game. I did it with blind perdition and a sidearm playing as a blade dancer. My heart was pounding at the 20 kill mark! | The identity of the consul ( theory) Posted: 18 Jun 2017 11:28 AM PDT There have have been several theories as to the identity of the consul. While old war monger turtle is the most likely solution, another idea occurred to me. What if the consul is Taox? Taox was an old enemy of the hive who they have chased for centuries. He was originally on the fundament with the hive and Traveler. She has had a habit of working with another species and running when the hive arrive (like the traveler). It could be Taox being the consul would explain why Ghaul knows so much about the Traveler and is so determined to gain control of it. The grimoire shows that the cabal have minimal knowledge about the Traveler, yet Ghaul knows tons of information. Taox would want to take control of the Traveler to help fight the hive, especially after it (we) killed oryx. Taox has fought the hive for years without success. Taox was last seen fleeing after the defeat of the ecumene. It's not unreasonable he could have found his way to the cabal and worked his way up with his intimate knowledge of the hive. The biggest problem with this theory is that Taox has barely been mentioned outside of grimoire. On the other hand, the consul being Taox adds more to the story than some random cabal or Savathun. Posted: 18 Jun 2017 07:20 AM PDT I mean the entire game is about being a Gaurdian and protecting the city, but for some reason we are never able to actually visit it, we are all stuck in our little tower just looking out at it. Although the City view from the tower is stunning, I would much rather have a large hub/social space inside the city where we could walk around, socialise and maybe have a race track or something.
