(Civ 5) Annexed a nearby city state in the 1400s, AI spends the next 400 years denouncing me

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 03:06 PM PDT

I started a new game as Denmark and decided it would be a true militaristic viking society from the get go (I was kinda bored after a long game as good guy Polynesia, just living in peace in my islands). I chose the small continents map and things were ok with other civ for a while, I didn't touch their territories. However, Quebec was weak, had no allies and was pretty close to my capital, so I decided to conquer it. I knew civs would be pissed for a while, but it seemed to be worth it.

Well, I was WRONG. The other five civs spent the next 400 years taking turns denouncing me, no matter how friendly I tried to be. When things finally seemed to have calmed a bit, they declared war on me. All of five them. The war lasted a long time and ended with them gradually asking for a truce (I held my ground), me slightly paranoid and a Denmark armed to the teeth. I'm still playing. My next step will be getting my revenge, of course.

Has something similar happened to anyone else here?

Technical issues hosting large Civ V games

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 01:47 PM PDT

Hi!

So last weekend I got a group of 10 friends together for some Civ 5 thinking it would be nice way to spend the Saturday, but we ran into a lot of technical issues with the game crashing when someone dropped (and we reloaded). Basically it would always not detect someone and it would not start back up again.

We hosted at least 3 or 4 games over Saturday and Sunday as we were having a great time but each game ended about half way through due to technical issues of some sort.

I have hosted games with 6 players before and reloaded and finished them, but is 10 too much?

We would like to do it again but obviously, the technical issues are a problem. Does anyone know if there's anything we can do to fix these problems? A patch would be ideal.

Many thanks

R.I.P Leader Progression

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 04:28 PM PDT

Am I the only one who enjoyed how in Civilization III as you advanced from Ancient to Medieval to Industrial to Modern the outfits of the Leaders changed? It's not like "Oh man this should be in every Civ game!" but I thought this was a nice touch.

Beginner Questions About Gameplay

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 08:02 PM PDT

Hello,

I want to purchase this game with my friends for multiplayer co-op, just the three of us, but we are confused on the mechanics. Our only previous experience is with games like AoE.

How does the turned base game play work? Do I have to wait my turn to build new buildings and units? Are there timers? Are timers mandatory? Or are we kind of free to build and gather resources at our own pace? Does the turned based game play change at all once someone goes to war?

Is it just me, or are boats incredibly OP in Civ VI?

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 04:02 PM PDT

I haven't played a lot of games yet, but so far it's been far too easy to build two or three privateers and take every coastal city within turns. After that, just upgrade to submarines and do it the the cities you didn't have time for.

Has anyone else experienced the same?

I recently picked up Civ5 and all of it's DLC's and I'm wondering if they're any tips I should know going in. What victory should I be going for?

[Civ VI] Team starting locations. Has anyone found a solution to this yet?

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 02:16 PM PDT

Not that its necessarily an issue, as i suppose some players like starting away from their team mates. But my brother and I are trying to have a game where we are decently close to one another, and we keep getting spawned very far away from each other. Is there anyway to fix this?

[Discussion] Tried my first LAN game :(

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 08:11 AM PDT

3 humans and 3 AI, tiny map. I had high hopes that 3 of us could play a LAN game, that the connectivity issues of past Civ games wouldn't be an issue when we're all sitting at the same table right next to the router.

Sadly, it's still a mess. After about 80-90 turns, we started having connection problems every other turn. 1 - 2 players would get kicked out. Often, the AI would take over and move all their units before they can get back in the game. The turn timer doesn't stop when the player is reconnecting, so they potentially lose 1 turn of unit movement, and then miss a turn of production, etc as well.

It's crazy that after all these years, they still can't get multiplayer to work smoothly. It's a turn-based game! Why is it so difficult?

For many players, myself included, Civilization is primarily a single player experience. But when the AI is terrible at many aspects of the game, it's important to be able to play with friends. Color me disappointed.

EDIT: This is Civ VI, should have stated.

Just bought the Civ5 dlc

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 04:40 PM PDT

I just bought all the DLC for Civ V during the summer sale. Before I load it up though I am wondering how it will affect any of my saved games I have which were created before having the DLC. Will the DLC content now be in the saved game? Or will the game continue as if I don't have the DLC.
