Blizz, can Monk lore go beyond drinking beer?

Posted: 04 May 2017 10:29 AM PDT

Ok, I get it, Pandaren Brewmaster was a great secret character in Warcraft III, which inspired Pandaren race and the Monk class. But can we go beyond that? We use martial arts, ways of the tiger, crane and ox. We use mistweaving healing arts, we have chi, we medidate, etc. We're not just DRUNKEN BREWMASTERS SPITTING FIRE (I know, it's awesome, but it's not just that!)

Our monk related WQ is literally rolling a barrel of storm BREW to fortify our units. Our class hall campaign is a bunch of unknown Monks after a strong BREW. We get our own BREW poisoned which almost kill all of us, including one (somehow?) important Monk that is replaced by BREWER Almai (which is now a mistweaver, but whatever).

I rerolled a Monk from a DK on 7.1, which has such a badass lore and campaign. The Monk campaign is just bad and cringey. Monks have a plenty beautiful background, wasted in brewing stuff. Brewmaster is not our only spec/focus here. It's not even funny anymore, please give us some love.

EDIT: Minor typos

I would love to be able to sell (NOT return for a refund) items I bought from an NPC for xmog without having to hold onto it for 2 in-game hours

Posted: 04 May 2017 06:26 AM PDT

Why can't we get a 3rd prompt when trying to sell back gear we bought from a vendor for transmog? Or at the very least, make that 2 hour timer tick while not logged onto that character.

It just seems so weird that there's no way to get rid of this gear without just destroying it. I know it's not a ton of gold to sell it back, but it helps offset some of the initial cost.

Why everyone so quiet?

[Death Knight Class Order Hall Spoiler]

I don't get it why we didn't face with our actions's consequences yet.

-We went to Orgrimmar and disturbed one of the important General of the Orcs and raised him as an Undead. As I know it's one of the most disrespectful actions for Orcs and their traditions.

-We infiltrated to the Undercity and let escape to Banshee Queen's special prisoner.

-I am not sure but there should be something about Thoras Trollbane and High Inquisitor Whitemane but I know their situation is a bit different and they don't have powerful allies as much as others.

AND

We attacked to the Light Hope Chapel and killed a lot of Paladin and tried to steel their Highlord's body for raise him as an Undead.

It is 7.2.5 and it will be nearly 7.3 there is nothing from them yet.

when you FINALLY get the last piece of the set, only to find out it clips through ALL your available hairstyles...

Posted: 03 May 2017 11:27 PM PDT

Album of pure disappointment

Now, let me start off by saying that I LOVE transmog. But i'm one of those people who want to look perfect with my sets, I don't like clipping, pieces that don't match, I want to look FABULOUS.

I know, us Human females are blessed with having 24 different hairstyles to choose from, compared to Tauren with like 3? and yes, this helmet is pretty gross but it matches the set and looks far better with it than without, but this is just annoying, all the long haired clip through the back, and the short clip through the front, there are NO hairstyles available that have no form of clipping. hell, i'd even opt for a bald hairstyle at this point. I just want to be fabulous blizzard, please, stop crushing my dreams!

Update post about the ranking site we've been working on: raider.io - feedback appreciated!

Posted: 04 May 2017 12:50 PM PDT

Heya ladies and jellyspoons!

It's been a while so I thought I'd come back with an update on the rankings site my boyfriend and I have been working on: Raider.IO. We started up in late January and have been steadily trying to get new features out every week since. The goal is every Tuesday, but sometimes they don't get pushed to the live server until Wednesday or Thursday (which is what is happening today). Since my last Reddit update a little over a month ago, here is a rundown on the changes we have made to Raider.IO:

March 22, 2017

  • Reformatted the timestamps so they are easier to read

  • The guilds are now sorted in the search and shouldn't shuffle around like they did previously.

  • Searching for a realm now returns connected realm results as well

  • ASCII characters are treated as regular characters in the search field. This means if you search for "Mirage" you'll also find a match for the guild "Mîragè"

March 27, 2017

  • Rosters have now been added to the guild pages, for first kills only (we plan on expanding this).

April 4, 2017

  • We have added resource links (example: relevant raid guides from wowhead and icyveins) to the sidebars on all rankings pages

  • Speed improvements and bug fixes with our crawler

April 11, 2017

  • Fixed bug where clicking Next/Prev on the rankings list would always scroll you back to the top of the page

  • Fixed bug on guild page where the 'right chevron' that you click on didn't rotate to be a 'down chevron' after clicking it

  • Added sidebar links to guild details page (latest raid links and general raiding links)

  • Crawler performance updates: the crawler will now not re-crawl/process characters if they haven't been updated since the last time they were crawled

April 18, 2017

  • Implemented the back end changes necessary to begin scanning new types of content - not visible to the user on the front end but important work nonetheless!

  • We also took some suggestions here under advisement and modified the next/prev buttons on the ranking pages even further. Hopefully much nicer to use now.

April 26, 2017

  • Character pages: View various progression details about characters by clicking on their names from any of the roster views.

  • Character search: We have updated the search functionality to include the ability to search for individual characters.

  • Add new character: From the same page you use to add a new guild to our database, you can now add your characters. http://raider.io/add

  • Mythic+ support: You can view a character's Mythic+ experience by visiting their character page. This will provide details about all the ranked Mythic+ runs the player has completed (important note: you must rank on Blizzard's official Mythic+ leaderboard to have runs show up here). It also provides a detailed view of the composition of the group, including the usage of: Average item level/Artifact Traits, Legendaries, Trinkets, and Tier Set Bonuses. Example page: http://www.raider.io/characters/us/skullcrusher/Fiveguys (NOTE REGARDING LEGENDARY BELTS: a previous issue caused scans to not show legendary belts. This problem has been fixed for future scans, but characters scanned before a certain date may only show one legendary item if one of their two equipped was a waist piece.)

  • You can also link directly to a Mythic+ run to share them with your friends by clicking the share button in the top right corner of the run. Example page: http://www.raider.io/mythic-plus/runs/753047

May 4, 2017 (HEY THAT'S TODAY!)

  • Mythic+ leaderboards (see write-up below for how scoring works)

  • Increased mobile support for the M+ pages

  • FAQ updated and given a place in the top bar navigation

So today we have implemented our new Mythic+ leaderboards. After a fair amount of discussion within the community we came up with a scoring system that we think works pretty well.

Here are the details on how we currently score Mythic+ and our philosophy behind these decisions.:

1) A score is made up of two factors: BaseValue and TimeBonus.

2) The BaseValue is calculated as MYTHIC_LEVEL * 10. This means a +8 Mythic level is worth a base of 80 points. A +22 run is worth a base of 220 points, and so forth.

3) The TimeBonus is then added to this value to adjust for how fast (or long) it took for the run to be completed. This TimeBonus swings between the range:

[Max(MYTHIC_LEVEL * -0.5, -15), MYTHIC_LEVEL]A positive bonus is calculated directly from how long your run took vs. the dungeon's base timer:

MYTHIC_LEVEL * (1.0 - RUN_TIME_MS / DUNGEON_TIME_MS)Our philosophy here is that the higher the M+ level the harder it is to complete it within the timer, so we wanted to offer more reward for those that do.

Conversely, we felt a long that takes a long time over the dungeon's timer should have a way to "down rank" in value, which would allow a really fast run from the previous level to potentially surpass it. This downranking cannot occur at rankings where there are affix changes.

4) However, TimeBonus can go negative. As the run takes longer and longer over the dungeon's base time, we apply a linearly interpolated penalty based on the specific time. This penalty is capped at a max of 10 (a full "tier" of rankings) which is achieved if the run has gone over twice the base time for that dungeon.

Again, our thinking here is that we want to have the opportunity for runs to essentially "down rank" if they have exceeded the timer by too much, but we didn't want players to be penalized much for just barely missing the timer.

Since the beginning we've wanted to keep a line of communication open with the community. Having the extra eyes on our page helps us to track down bugs and other unforeseen glitches, plus the feedback we get from you all is invaluable. Many of the features that go live each week are fueled by the discussions we have on both Reddit and MMO Champion.

For anyone that wants to follow our development a little more closely we have a page on Facebook here, but we also maintain a thread on the MMO-Champion forums where we post our updates every week: over here.

Thanks for reading my unusually long update post! Looking forward to getting a whole slew of new feedback from Reddit. :)

Fucking Suramar

Posted: 04 May 2017 03:44 AM PDT

I fucking hate this city with all of its guards and shit, but god damn it, it's so beautiful. I've always loved some of the amazing work that the blizzard art team have done, but this is truly amazing. When I'm in Suramar city, I honestly feel like I'm in a city so powerful that just by being within its barriers, you become stronger and your net worth just sky rockets. If it weren't for the guards (and the fact that there's not a lot of npcs you can interact with) I'd probably chill in Suramar while waiting for queues. I think it's one of the most beautiful places Blizzard has ever put together.

What do you guys think? What are your favorite places? Not exactly from gameplay, but from aesthetic?
