The Korok mask will be found on Makar island. Trust me, It looks identical to Makar and nothing is found on that island.

[BotW] This DLC is great but...

Posted: 02 May 2017 09:42 AM PDT

... can we please get some rain proof climbing gloves/gear? Rain is truly my worst enemy. There is an item to counteract pretty much every other environmental obstacle in the game, why can't we get some help with the rain?

[BotW] I have way too much time on my hands

Posted: 02 May 2017 08:26 AM PDT

Anyone else lose their [BotW] mojo?

Posted: 02 May 2017 09:47 AM PDT

I'm about 45 hours in, got master sword and a bunch of upgraded armor, 60 or so shrines and a dungeon to go and somehow I can't motivate myself to continue. I feel like I've seen all enemy types (all 5-6 of them...) and mechanics, I've climbed all towers and the dungeons seem to be pretty same-y (shoot Xs by following champion, enter dungeon, find all Y's by toggling a bunch of Zs, kill sub-boss) and since story and sidequests are a little forgettable so far and I'm no completionist, I have a bit of hard time finding a reason to continue playing.

It's a bit of a shame, as for the first 20-30 hours BotW were my favourite thing ever. Now though, as everything is so much based on consumables, I don't even want to just roam around anymore, as it will either require me to do a lot of cooking (which I've come to dislike) or having to grind through my fancy weapons should I chose to engage combat.

I'm not hating on BotW at all, it's a magnificent game, I guess I'm just surprised how quickly I burned out on it and how quickly the game mechanics became transparent and I kind of wish a more compelling story or a codified progression system (e.g. XP) was in place to keep me going for the final part of the game (a rain and weapon damage toggle would work as well...)

Anyone else feel like this?

Nifty trick for killing the flying Guardians

Posted: 02 May 2017 09:28 AM PDT

Surprisingly simple and cheap.

Using the magnesis power, grab a metal thing such as a large crate or chest and hammer it into the top of the guardian.

I used this to great effect at Akkala Tower. No arrows or shield reflection needed, just a good sized metal box and climbing to a good position.

Easy farming.

[BOTW] FYI: Holding a Fire Arrow up to an ice block no longer slowly melts the ice block

Posted: 02 May 2017 09:26 AM PDT

I'm noticing gameplay differences from the latest update. I learned on Reddit that you could hold a fire arrow up to the ice blocks in the Hebra region to melt the ice blocks and save arrows/flame weapons. They've apparently patched that out of the game in the latest update for some reason.

PSA: Hold On To These Weapons! - ALL WEAPONS THAT DO NOT RESPAWN

PSA: Hold On To These Weapons! - ALL WEAPONS THAT DO NOT RESPAWN

All weapons that once broken, can never be re-acquired in Breath of the Wild. A warning to all the completionists/collectors out there.

VIDEO GUIDE: Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Hold On to These Weapons! (ALL WEAPONS THAT DO NOT RESPAWN)

Background

There are five ways you can acquire weapons in this game:

  1. Found lying in the open world
  2. Recoverable from a defeated enemy
  3. Gifted as a reward for accomplishing something.
  4. Found in a treasure chest
  5. Acquired through an Amiibo

Any weapon found out in the open world (think rusted weapons) will respawn every blood moon. Any item that an enemy drops once killed will also respawn every blood moon, since all enemies respawn every blood moon.* Amiibo's can be scanned once every 24 hours, so you have a chance to re-acquire those weapons with each Amiibo scan.

Items in treasure chests and items given as a reward can only be acquired once. Ever. That means, there is a small window for any item only acquirable through treasure chests and rewards to only be acquired a limited number of times. If you destroy all instances of these weapons, you will never be able to acquire them again. That's a scary thought for all the completionists/collectors out there.

This guide lists all of the weapons/shields that can only be acquired a limited number of times, and all the locations you can find each of them.

* Lynel's will level up as you progress through the game, meaning the lower level Lynels will NOT respawn every blood moon. This means this is also another opportunity for an item to any be acquired a limited amount of times.

Credit/Sources

The items listed below were identified using /u/mrcheeze's datamining stuff for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, found here: LINK. The original inspiration for this guide and video comes from /u/MasterPatricko's post limited (non-respawning) Weapons confirmed.

Non Respawning Weapon List & Locations

Kite Shield

Defense: 14

Description: Rito warriors cherish this shield. Its unique shape is designed with mid-battle flight in mind to facilitate aerial combat.

Total Number of Spawns: 3

LOCATIONS:

  • Obtained as a reward for getting the worst time (2:15 should be fine) in Selmie's Shield Surfing Mini-game near the Hebra East Summit. (Shada Naw Shrine for Fast Travel)
  • In a treasure chest in one of the skulls found in the N. Tabantha Snowfield. (Rin Oyaa Shrine for Fast Travel)
  • In a treasure chest found near the Hebra Plunge. (Hebra Tower for Fast Travel)

NOTES:

  • This shield cannot be rewarded more than once for getting the correct time in Selmie's Shield Surfing Mini-game. She will say she has already given you that shield and offer a consolation prize of Rupees instead.
  • There may be two Shrines that reward you this shield, but currently do not have the Shrine names or locations.

Forest Dweller's Sword

Attack: 22

Description: Koroks made this sword for Hylians. It's made of wood, so it isn't the best choice for head-on attacks. Its original intent was likely clearing vines to forge paths through forests.

Total Number of Spawns: 4

LOCATIONS:

  • In a treasure chest under the bridge near Lake Floria. (Shai Utoh Shrine for Fast Travel)
  • In a treasure chest near the Hyrule Garrison Ruins. (Kaam Ya'Tak Shrine for Fast Travel)
  • In a treasure chest near Mido Swap. (Maag Halan Shrine for Fast Travel)
  • Given as a reward for the Test of Wood in the Korok Forest. (Keo Ruug Shrine for Fast Travel)

NOTES:

  • Only the first try of the Test of Wood allows you to keep the sword. Every time after that you only "rent" the sword for a cost of 20 Rupees.

Regular & Mighty Lynel Spear

Attack: 14 & 20

Description: The crescent-shaped spearhead of this Lynel-made weapon gives it poor balance, making it difficult to wield. Lynels, however, can swing it effectively with a single hand.

Total Number of Spawns: 2 Regular 2 Mighty

LOCATIONS:

Regular

  • Near the Oseira Plains in the Faron Grasslands. (Suma Sahma Shrine for Fast Travel)
  • To the left of the Riola Spring, North East of the Faron Tower. (Shoda Sah Shrine for Fast Travel)

Mighty

  • In the Elma Knolls, North of Hyrule Castle. (Monya Toma Shrine for Fast Travel)
  • Near the Akkala Wilds, in the North Eastern part of the Akkala Region. (Zuna Kai Shrine for Fast Travel)

Regular & Mighty Lynel Crusher

Attack: 41 & 54

Description: This two-handed weapon is favored by the Lynels. It may be more accurate to call it a lump of metal than a weapon, but if wielded by a Lynel, it can pound you into a fine dust.

Total Number of Spawns: 2 Regular 2 Mighty

LOCATIONS:

Regular

  • In the Oseira Plains in the South Western portion of the Faron Grasslands. (Ishto Soh Shrine for Fast Travel)
  • Directly West of the Seres Scablands in Hyrule Ridge. (Mijah Rokee Shrine for Fast Travel)

Mighty

  • On the Laparoh Mesa in the Gerudo Highlands. (Kuh Takkar Shrine for Fast Travel)
  • West of Lake Kilsie in the South Western area of the Hebra Mountains. (Maka Rah Shrine for Fast Travel)

Shappi as Princess Zelda

Posted: 02 May 2017 09:03 AM PDT

Princess Zelda giving Ganon power theory.

Posted: 02 May 2017 08:59 AM PDT

When I was on the Wii U in Miiverse, I saw a post about someone confused about which Timeline does BotW take place in. Some said that it was in the Adult Timeline because of the Rito and Koroks (which were first introduced in Wind Waker) others said it was in Child Timeline because Princess Zelda mentions the events that took place in Twilight Princess in BotW (as spoken dialogue). I put my two cents in (mentioning a shrine quest that's an oath to TP) but when I was typing along it got me thinking, why were the Rito and Koroks in BotW? The Kokiri weren't in TP like at all much less the Rito so why are they even in BotW. But not only the Rito are in their, but Zora are their as well, at the same time as their feathered friends. Those that understand Wind Waker know that the Zora weren't around during the entirety of Wind Waker belief that they evolved into Rito because of the Earth Sage (which was a Zora) saying to look for her decedent (who was Medli, a Rito) but not only are their Rito and Zora coinciding with one-another, but the Koroks are their as well, practically all over Hyrule. But Zelda said with her own words "Embers of Twilight" acknowledging the Twilight Princess happened making this the Child Timeline. So why are their Rito and Koroks? It made me think for awhile until I thought of Bioshock Infinite and the fact of "There's always a man, there's always a girl, there's always a lighthouse." given into the fact that game explained it quite simply. There's a pattern in these LoZ games ( and not just hero beats bad guy to save the princess) more accurately between the Adult and Child timeline. After Ganon was defeated in the Adult Timeline and sealed away only to come back a hundred or so years and wreak havoc so horribly that the people of Hyrule pleading to the gods to save them because the Hero of Time went back in time to relive his childhood, thus leaving Hyrule no protection against Ganon. The gods answered their plea by flooding Hyrule and the denizens fleeing to the mountains for safety, thus setting up the world for Wind Waker. In the Child Timeline the Hero of Time went back in time and warned the King of Hyrule about Ganondorf's plot to overthrow Hyrule and invade the sacred realm to claim the Triforce. Now knowing of this plot, the King had Ganondorf arrested and he was to be executed at the Arbiter's Ground by the Six Sages. Ganondorf never reached the sacred realm, while the Hero of Time went to look for his friend, never to be seen again. When the execution was done something went wrong. From the sages very own words "By some divine prank, Ganondorf possessed the Triforce of Power!" and with his newly acquired power Ganondorf killed one of the sages before he was sealed away into the Twilight Realm for a hundred or so years before he broke free and invaded Hyrule only to be stopped by the Hero of Twilight and died right after losing the Triforce of Power. If you noticed something it's that except very different outcomes and ways that it happened, both timelines with Ganon/ Ganondorf happened at nearly the exact same way, right down to him losing, being sealed away, and only to return to wreak havoc on Hyrule once again, even the way the sealing away process was the same. Held down so he couldn't escape (The seven sages keeping Ganon at bay/ Shackled and Chained so Ganondorf has no way out), stabbed by a weapon of light (The Master Sword/ The Sage's Sword), then sealed away in a dark realm (The corrupted Sacred Realm/ The Twilight Realm). Ganon and Ganondorf even lost to the Hero of Time (Defeated in combat/ got told on) the only different outcomes (Besides the story in-between) was that after Ganondorf in the Child Timeline got out of the Twilight Realm he was defeated by the Hero of Twilight and lost his Triforce of Power, in the Adult Timeline when Ganon got out of the corrupted Sacred Realm their was no hero to stop him and he kept going until the gods intervened and flooded Hyrule. But why was there no hero to save the kingdom, why wasn't anyone able to wield the Master Sword and slay evil once again and bring peace to the land. Where was the Spirit of the Hero that Demised cursed along with the Blood of the Goddess, well... there was a Spirit to begin with, but he left to his supposed own timeline when in truth the Adult Timeline was his own timeline in truth the Child Timeline shouldn't even have existed in the first place, in fact the Adult Timeline was part of the entire Ocarina of Time video game the Child Timeline was created in order for the Hero of Time to stop Ganondorf before his plan was set in motion and the Hero would stop this from happening and that he can live in peace. But here's the thing, it wasn't on purpose, it supposed to be where the Adult Timeline would lose it's existence, wiped from reality, become nothing. But like Trunks in Dragon Ball Z did in the Androids/ Cell saga, Zelda didn't send Link back into his time, no, he went into a different parallel time, Multiverse Theory. And the worst part of it is, is that in doing so the universe needed to correct itself because now, in its universal pattern Ganondorf has to have the Triforce of Power since he has no way of getting to it, being arrested and executed, the universe did something that bet even the Golden Goddesses didn't see coming, Ganondorf somehow someway by some "Divine Prank" has the Triforce of Power while somehow Princess Zelda and the child Hero of Time have the Triforce of Wisdom and Courage respectively because that's how it originally went down in the Adult and the Hero's Fall Timeline. The universe would not break the pattern there so it cheated without explaining itself. And that's why Princess Zelda in trying to redeem herself for in the Adult Timeline and give the Hero of Time his life back accidentally gave Ganondorf the Triforce of Power in doing so.

How I retrieved my lost Lightscale Trident. [BOTW]

Posted: 02 May 2017 08:27 AM PDT

A couple of weeks ago I posted a comment in the "quick questions" thread asking if there is a faster way to find the Lightscale Trident I lost early on in the game than searching for it with the sheikah sensor.

The old blacksmith in Zora's domain said that it was still in this world and that he could not remake it. I was desperate.

Today I accidentally broke my Ceremonial Trident bashing a Lynell's face in, and I went back to remake it. Suddenly the Lightscale Trident was available to remake, and I don't know why. Now I have it proudly displayed on the wall in my house.

TL;DR: Lost my Lightscale Trident, broke my Ceremonial Trident, was able to remake the Lightscale Trident.

Sorry if this post is badly formatted or written, I'm on my phone.
