| Why do people complain about Skyrim characters not looking rugged and dirty? Posted: 03 May 2017 04:37 AM PDT Like, I have seen some comments on images of users' characters being too "clean", "pretty" or "not dirty enough." Most of these complaints are based on the idea that Skyrim = viking fantasy, vikings = dirty barbarians. Well, A: Skyrim is fantasy so it doesn't have to adhere to reality, and B: The Vikings were some of the cleanliest people of the Middle Ages. They took regular baths, groomed their hair, washed their clothes, and even had some rudimentary hygiene products like combs and makeup. For a Nord to look spotless, with flowing, clean hair, wearing a nice dress and smelling good isn't too far-fetched. Yes, Skyrim is a harsh and cold land (even though Falkreath and the Rift are pretty nice), but that doesn't mean people would just abandon personal hygiene. So I think that all these complaints about pretty characters and "lore-breaking" beauty are ridiculous. But those are just my thoughts; had to get them off my chest. [link] [comments] | ||
| God dammit I thought I was the only one Posted: 03 May 2017 12:31 AM PDT So, have been playing the game for the last 3 years +500 hours, no mods, no dlc, I like Vanilla that much. Since my second character I have been always roleplaying, I would make up unnecesarily complex backstories for my characters, give them personality, and follow It until the last consequences, no matter how messed up, Elija the Psyco Carpenter, you won't be forgotten. And this whole friggin time I thought I was a weirdo and never told anyone because I thought that It seemed really stupid, only to find out a fuckton of people in this subreddit who also love roleplaying. Thank you for existing guys. [link] [comments] | ||

| I had a dream about skyrim tonight (long post) Posted: 03 May 2017 04:12 AM PDT Yup one of the coolest dreams i ever had was about skyrim. First let me tell you that i remember perfectly what happened in the dream but some of the speech is a little hard to remember. Some important info: this dream was about my saved characters. When i try out a build and like it, i always keep a save, even when i get bored of it, so i can play again after some time. THE DREAM: I went to a courier house in Whiterun and sent the same letter to all my saved chars. In that letter i asked them to met me at Gjukar's Monument for i wanted to choose with which one of them i would play today. I arrived at the Monument and sat on a throne that was on top of a small hill, on the opposite side of the road. The first char to arrive was Kanui, the breton warrior. He was accompanied by Ingjard. Both in enchanted legendary dragonplate armor and weapons. He was the dragonborn, the legend himself. After some time the second appeared: M'Khay. An khajiit brawler and a skooma dealer accompanied by Ra'zahr (khajiit brawler from a mod). M'Khay says that he doesn't know what to do for me to pick him so Ra'zahr speaks: -Khajiit knows. If there's only one to chose, you cannot fail! - and he raises is claws to Kanui. Ingjard grabs her battleaxe and charges the brawler. I get up and yell that if they where to come to blows, the followers could not fight! And they just stop. A small cut in the cheek of the followers starts to bleed and they fall down. I turn around to see Khyrah, the bosmer poisoned ranger, still with is mighty Zephyr in hand. "They're death?!" Kanui screams grabbing his sword and Spellbreaker. "No. They are paralyzed. This is between us, not them" And the fight starts. M'Khay, with the help of skooma, was able to hurt Kanui but a single shot of Khyrah Dragon's Poison put him down... The fight between Kanui and Khyrah was bigger. He had a resistance to poison but Khyrah had other potions to use on her... In the end Kanui killed her. He approached me and said "Now the choice is easy. There's just one". "Well, not really. There's still Khylon.- i said- And i'm sure he is already here. You would not fight without him." "Yes I was the first to arrive, minutes before you master" Kanui turned but couldn't see no one. "What is this?! Who are you? Show yourself!" he said. "As you wish. Shadows preserve you..." Khylon said as his invisibility broke while he grabbed Kanui for behind and cut his neck with his nightingale blade. Khylon, the nightingale then turns to me, hot frenzy spell in one hand and blood upon is blade, kneels and asks "When will you need me master?" And i woke up. Sorry if this is kind of big. There is a lot that i didn't say because i was afraid that it would became a massive text. I wanted to share this because it was just the most epic fight in my dreams... Thanks Skyrim!! | Best way to troubleshoot Skryrim SE PC? Posted: 03 May 2017 05:51 AM PDT So I'm stuck in Solstheim. Any time I try to fast travel back to Skyrim, I get the forever loading screen. I'm relatively new and don't have many mods. but I do have a couple mods running from NMM and the rest are through the Skyrim SE mod manager. I've tried disabling mods I added before this happened. I'm just not sure what to do next. Should I disable / delete all mods? Should I do one at a time? I honestly wouldn't care if I ever played this character again. Will starting a new game / character possibly be a fix? Just looking for some general troubleshooting guidance. [link] [comments] | ||

| Akavir - Of Cat-Dragons and Vampire-Snakes Posted: 03 May 2017 01:38 AM PDT The TES-games have always focused on Tamriel, it's people and it's culture. Tamriel is, however, only one continent of Nirn. There are a few others, that definitely warant their own articles. Right now, I want to tell you a little something about the continent of Akavir. It'll be mostly an overview of who lives there; and trust me, it's a blast to delve into. I wont be going that deep, if the interest is there, I'll do something more in-depth. Although the lore of the continent is interesting and appears to be extensive, the main source of information on this continent is a brief writing "Mysterious Akavir" by an unknown author. It's is a very old book, and it first appeared in Morrowind, and even then it was considered old. This means there's a lot of unknowns and questions about exactly how Akavir looks right now. First of, Akavir is the continent to Tamriel's east. Akavir means "Dragon Land", and dragons inhabit it, and it seems that they originate from there. It is not known if there the land is still inhabited by dragons. Akavir has had some interactions with Tamriel(some invasion back and forth), but there's not been that much imigration between continents. In all of Skyrim, not a single Akaviri is present(at least in game). And trust me, the Akaviri would've stood out, since they look... peculiar. That is not to say Akavir has had no influence on Tamriel and Tamrielic culture. The existence of the Blades, ushering in the Second Era as rulers of the Empire, the founding of the Fighters Guild, and much more. Each of these could easily be their own 1000-word article. Right now, I'll give a brief description of the races of Akavir. It should be an entertaining view into the future of TES as a series, since there's a lot of interesting stuff over there to explore. And the Akaviri might just pay Tamriel a visit, sooner rather than later... The races of AkavirKa Po'Tun The Ka Po'tun are a race of humanoid cats; in description close to Khajiit, but it is unknown if, and if so how, they are related. They are refered to as Tiger-like, although the implications of that are unclear. At the very least this relates to their colouring, as their leader(at least, in the 3rd Era, bascially up until the Oblivion Crisis), is described as "orange and black". Interestingly, he's also described as being "the largest Dragon in the world". That's basically why I assume he's still alive; Dragons are essentially immortal. This whole Dragon-business can quite possibly be very literal, as the Ka Po'Tun revere the dragons and "have tried to become the Dragons". this is immediately followed by the disturbing sentence "Tosh Raka is the first to succeed". So there might actually be a Dragon-Tiger hybrid king across the pond. It's unclear if Tosh Raka is the only one to have Dragonic aspects, as the text refers to him as "the first", but it doesn't say if he's the only. So there might even be more than one Tiger-Dragon. I personally don't believe that "Mysterious Akavir" undeniably means that Tosk Raka is actually some sort of Dragon-Cat hybrid, since Dragon can easily be a honorary title of sorts; combined with the questionable origin of the material. Tosh Raka has apperently set his sights on Tamriel. He initially wants to conquer his fellow-Akaviri, the Tsaesci, with Tamriel at a solid 2nd place on his hitlist. The Tsaesci are the sworn enemies of the Ka Po'Tun, but the Tsaesci are known to have had the most influence on Tamriel. this might explain Tosh Raka's hatred for Tamriel and his wish to invade. The vast majority of the Ka Po'Tun seem to just be cat-folk, not being crossed with Dragons. Nothing is known of their society, customs, or anything much really. Politically, the Ka Po'Tun have an alliance with the Tang Mo people. The two races are historically enemies, but their common hatred for the Tsaesci has lead them to form an alliance. Tsaesci The Tsaesci are the folk that have actually lived in Tamriel for an extended period of time, and as such, they've ignificantly influenced the Empire, both culturally and structurally; their style comparable to the real-world Chinese/Japanese style of feudalism, architecture and armor and weapons design. The Tsaesci have invaded Tamriel in the First Era, and s Emperor Uriel Septim V famously returned the favour by invading Tsaesci in the 3 century of the Third Era, and founded the Imperial Province of Akavir. This settlement stood for about a year, until harsh climate conditions and unrelenting attacks from the Tsaesci folk forced a retreat. Uriel Septim V himself died during their escape. The area was reclaimed by the Tsaesci and has never seen Tamrielic feet again. The Tsaesci are apperently the folk most of Tamriel thinks of when talking about Akaviri. This is because they're a sight to behold, being snake-people and all. They're described in "Mysterious Akavir" as "tall, beautiful (if frightening), covered in golden scales, and immortal". So there's definitely that; huge snakes, in varying degrees of snake-itude; sometimes described as men with snake tails, others as complete snakes. They used to be the most powerful faction of Akavir, but the rise of the Tosh Raka as leader of the Ka Po'Tun has lead to war between the two, and weakness as a result. They're also vampiric. As in, they feed on blood. They famously hunted Man to exstinction on Akavir, as well as the Red Dragons. They failed to hunt the Black Dragons to exstinction, because they fled to the Ka Po'Tun for safety. Then the Tsaesci waged war against Ka Po'Tun and finished the job on the Black Dragons anyway. They're vicious fighters that forgo shields and armor, relying on the toughnes of their scales for defense. Their traditional fighting style is to carry swords in both hands(which seems to contridict any statements on them being full serpents). They currently use Goblins as a constant supply of blood, having enslaved all Goblins in their domain. They seem to learn from their mistakes, and have stopped hunting things to exstinction, and actually keep Goblins as slaves and cattle. This happy bunch is also the origin of the Blades. In the Second Era, the Tsaesci sent Dragon hunting parties over to Tamriel to kill even more Dragons. This invading hunt met Emperor Reman I at the Pale Pass, where the Dragonborn Emperor gave them a taste of his Voice. The Tsaesci immediately recognized him as Dragonborn, and served him since as his Dragonguard. This Dragonguard served both as protectors and advisors, but they failed to stop the assassination of Reman III by the Morag Tong. After the assassination of Reman III, there have been 2 Tsaesci Potentates(interregnal rulers) that have ruled the Cyrodilic Empire for 4 centuries in the Second Era. Yes, vampiric snakes ruled the empire at one point. The failure to prevent the assassination lead to the disbanding of the Dragonguard, which by then appears to have consisted of more than just Tsaesci. The former members worked as mercenaries, founded the Fighters Guild, and formed mystic orders of Dragon Knights(warriors trained in the use of Fire Magicka). After the Dragonguard's official end, a lot of Jarls, warlords, and minor kings founded their own "Dragonguards", being Dragonguard in nothing but name. When Tiber Septim, the first Dragonborn emperor after Reman I (considering his sons were never confirmed to be Dragonborn, but also not to be), rose to power, he reinstated the Dragonguard, in the form of the Blades. They were much more an intelligence network than an actual army, but their reach was much greater(as the Empire had grown as well). If you look at the mural at Skyhaven Temple(which depicts a great number of the Blades in combat), there are no snake-people depicted. As such, it's fairly safe to assume there were no Tsaesci in the Blades by that time. Their absence in any of the TES-games seems to also imply that there are no, or not many, Tsaesci left in Tamriel. Tang Mo the Tang Mo are a race of monkey-people, and their name translates to Thousand Monkey Isles. The available information on them is extremely limited. A literal 5 sentences is all we know. They are described as being "kind, brave, and simple". Also, many of them are "very crazy". What that means, I can only guess. At the very least, they are capable of raising armies and fighting. Most probably because they have been targeted by all the other races of Akavir, who all have tried to enslave the Tang Mo at one point or another. The Tang Mo have a strong hatred for both the Kamal and the Tsaesci. Apperently, most of the Tang Mo have a greater hatred for the Tsaesci, who they hatefully refer to as "snakes". As mentioned earlier, the Tang Mo have allied themselves with the Ka Po'Tun for protection. Despite them having been bitter enemies at one point.(as well). Suffice it to say that the Tang Mo have a strained relationship with the other inhabitants of Akavir. Considering their alleged insanity, I wonder whose fault it really is. Kamal And finally, the Snowdemons known as the Kamal. These peculiar beings encase themselves in ice during winter, and they thaw out during the summer. In the summertime, they go raiding and wage war on the Tang Mo. According to Mysterious Akavir, the Kamal have never been succesful in defeating the monkey-folk. This is curious, because the Kamal have placed a relatively succesful invasion on Tamriel in the Second Era, under king Ada'Soom Dir-Kamal. The Kamal landed near Windhelm and sacked the city, before marching south over Skyrim teritory, towards Stonefalls in Morrowind. At Vivec's Antlers(a costal region in Morrowind), the Kamal were stopped by the combined forces of the Dunmer Army under Almalexia, the Warden of the Tribunal, and the Nordic Prince Jorunn. Here the stories differ, as some say Almalexia summoned the avatar of Shor, Underking Ysmir Wulfharth(yes, that Ysmir), to aid the Dunmer in battle, as others say the Greybeards summoned him to fight alongside the Nords. Regardless of his summoner, the Ash-King Ysmir aided the Tamriel armies in driving the Kamal back to the shore, where they waited for their fleet to evacuate them from the shores. As the fleet approached, an army of Argonians joined the battle to crush the retreating forces, right as a tidal wave summoned by the god Vivec wiped out the approaching Kamal fleet. The combined forces of three Tamrielic kingdoms and 2 Gods was more than enough to decide the war in favor for the home team. The Kamal that miraculously managed to flee this slaughter, found themselves a home somewhere in Cyrodiil. When the warlord Attrebus campaigned to remove all Akaviri from Tamriel, the Kamal warriors overthrew him with the help of the Rimmen, a community of Akaviri living in Elsweyr. These efforts led to the Rimmen losing forces and territory, both to Attrebus and the Khajiit looking to reclaim the Elsweyr settlement. After this uprising, the weakened Rimmen submitted themselves to the protection of the Mane of Elsweyr. Ever since they pay tribute to the Cat Lord of Elsweyr to guarantee their independance. It is unknown how many of the Rimmen still exist, and how many of them are Kamal, if any(as Elsweyr is very hot, and the Kamal are snowdemons after all). This is, however, the last history writes of the Kamal. ClosingAnd with that, a short summary of the weird continent Akavir. I can't wait to explore it, or have a game deal with an Akviri invasion. The interesting races, chances for more lore, possible new locales, all of it very exciting. If the inhabitants are anything to go by, Akavir is sure to be exotic indeed. With the available information as limited as it is, a lot is left to the imagination. And with TES VI on the distant horizon, all we can do is hope for some more insight on the Akaviri. I hope you walk away more intersted in them, and with more insight into the world of Nirn outside of Tamriel. [link] [comments] |
