| A few tips and tricks for beginners Posted: 02 May 2017 11:49 PM PDT So this is just going to be a list of the helpful tips i've learnt in my 250+ hours playing this game, hopefully they can help you too. 1:APPLES APPLES APPLES: In my opinion, apples are the best addition to the game in terms of survival. Before me and my mate discovered them, we would usually die of starvation before we got to eachother, now whenever we spawn the first thing we do is go to the nearest apple tree, and get straight to bright green energised and hydrated. A fairly common spawn area is Kambishovo, along the back side of it you can find some apple trees, they're short green trees with bits of red dots, the apples. I literally never worry about carrying food on me because i have no fear of hunger or thirst thanks to apple trees. 2: Steam overlay: If you play in public servers like i do, and you don't want to worry about running around in a map with a high chance of running into some dick that will instakill you, use the shift+tab to bring up steam overlay and see how many players are in your server. That way when in a hot zone you can decide how careful you have to be. 3: Izurvive: Its not the only map, but its my personal favourite. Easy to use and tells you the spawns of some of the essentials, weapons, cars, and animals. 4: Rags: New spawn and you've used up the rags you start with? Search the ground for stones, make an improvised knife and cut up your shirt into more rags! Try not to risk using a sewing kit on yourself unless you absolutely have to, as you can get infections that make life very unpleasant. 5: Ponds: If you are thirsty, only ever drink water from a pond if you have high health/blood, otherwise you risk getting Cholera which is a pain to get rid of. 6: Running up hills: If you have to run up a hill, it can be a pain. So rappidly tap x then c to crouch and stand up over and over, gets you up much faster than walking straight up or zig-zagging. 7: My favourite loot route: Now i am not saying this is the best, or the fastest route, its just my personal favourite (as a fresh spawn) So i will suicide until i get a Kambishovo, Solnichniy or Elektro spawn. I then head to the Staroye tents, there's about 5 military tents there, i can usually get some basic military clothes, a backpack, assault vest and SKS. It also has a possible car spawn on the way out of Staroye. From there its along the main road out Staroye to Guglovo (lots of apple trees along the road, 2 vehicle spawns) and it takes me to Novy Sobor, i loot the police station at the start of that town, then head to the Stary Sobor tents straight after it, get some more guns and ammo there. From there i head straight to the Ditchina base, usually can find a decent AK or an Aug there. Then its straight to the Airfield, loot the tents at the end of that, then i follow the paths going north west to toploniki, and from there to the Tisy Military Base, which is where you should be getting your best gear from. From there on its up to you what you do with the gear! If by the end you aren't happy with the gear you have (this only applies to those playing on public servers) Just hop across servers until you have enough gear. Hope you found this helpful, i could have put in more but i didn't want this to be too big a wall of text. And again i am not saying that any of my methods are the best, they are just the ones that i personally find to be the most useful. Thanks for reading and stay safe out there! :) [link] [comments] | ||

| I'm getting back into DayZ. Can someone point me to a good private server. RP is fine with me. Posted: 03 May 2017 01:36 AM PDT I just don't know which servers are still active and what not. [link] [comments] | ||
| Is large dangerous zombie herds still a planned feature? Posted: 02 May 2017 09:16 PM PDT I haven't played or paid attention to this game in years and still won't until it's finished. So if this is common knowledge then that's why I don't know. I remember back in 2012 one of the main things the community wanted in the game was large zombie herds, making them a legitimate threat to the player. Is this still a planned feature for the game in its finished state? [link] [comments] | ||

| /r/DayZ is taking a break from herding the infected to support /r/ProCSS! Posted: 02 May 2017 08:17 AM PDT Greetings /r/DayZ! Reddit Admins recently announced that they are planning to remove CSS from all subreddits in favor of other customization tools. For people who do not know, CSS is short for Cascading Style Sheets and is coding tool used on webpages to give pages elements like buttons and text properties that make them extremely flexible such as positioning, borders, background images etc. On Reddit, it allows communities to be unique and customize a subreddit especially for a given purpose. We use a lot of it. A group of moderators and subreddits have begun to voice their concerns and suggestions for keeping subreddits easily customize-able over at /r/ProCSS. The /r/DayZ moderators have voted to join them. On /r/DayZ, we use CSS for all of the following features:
If you want to understand more about CSS and how it effect Reddit, I would recommend this post from /r/FinalFantasy. Thanks!

| Posted: 02 May 2017 06:00 PM PDT How should I promote DayZ stream events? There's a mentally handicapped girl who follows my twitch streams, and my crew and I are going to take her on a tour of Chernarus, and have a PVP match amongst ourselves with her winning the match, natch. Hell, is this even a good idea? [link] [comments] | ||

| I had my second closed call! Heads up: long story. Posted: 02 May 2017 05:34 PM PDT This game. Jesus. Setting: The military airport. North West of the map. Context: I already had an AK mini, repeater and full camo gear but I was curious about the airport. I wanted whatever was in there. Hell, I just wanted to find it. To see it. My default intent and position is to avoid everyone else and never KOS. I like trying to avoid violence. It improves the game for me. What happened: I approached from the north west, heading south East. So, I had navigated the northernmost " tent city " and found next to nothing but I heard the auto gun fire ( damn, the guns sound amazing ) and kept myself low. The tents were picked dry of the good stuff ( if it was ever there at all ). There was a pink Derringer but I somehow managed to resist the temptation. 2 hours. I spent over 2 hours creepin and a crawlin south. Hugging the perimeter wall. I was so nervous. I don't, can't, lose what I have gathered. I can't do it all over again! South I go. " pow pow pow! Pow pow pow pow pow! " I've seen Heat enough times to know AK auto fire when I hear it. And that's AK. Far, away, but AK. Ok. I'll be chill, cool. I don't got to die today. No Sir. This ain't COD. I didn't need to engage. I wanted to. COD has conditioned me well. But if I lose, I lose it all. Oh no, I can't do this again, it's gonna take sooo long. This is supposed to be fun. I usually play with a controller. A mouse? I feel the same as when I try to write with my left hand! Anyway, i hugged that wall south and eventually got to the firehouse.. I'll climb to the top and have a look around. I hit the third floor... " friendly? Are you friendly? " Yes! I am! Don't shoot me! How did he see me? I thought I was being sneaky. He didn't shoot me. He had somehow heard me walking ( said he had his sound turned up? ) and we chatted and parted ways after he friended me and gave some advice on surviving ( there are good guys! ) So I continue south. Found me some army barracks and an AK74 with 30 round banana mag. Now I'm double carrying. Hugging that perimeter wall. South. My AK is out. No point in pretending at this location. I hit the southern most point and exit through a gap. I decided to still hug the outer wall and follow it west. I'm curious as to what the south west has to offer. More guns perhaps? Bigger? But, you know. I'm learning as I'm going here and from time to time I actually think to myself " how can I be better? What would a real soldier do? " Right now. So I pull a casual 180 ( third person), just looking behind me, for reasons I don't know and someone's actually there! Following? That " friend " from before? No sound. No footsteps. But there he is. In camo gear, no drawn weapon. He stops. I'm astonished. Am I crazy? My AK is drawn, I'm still in 3rd person. He steps left, I fire! " pow pow pow pow pow! " ( I feel guilty but nobody in this game approaches from the rear, no sound, with good intentions, right? ) I hit nothing! It dawns on me that I don't know how to fucking fire a gun! There's no training level in this game! I duck quickly through a gap in the wall to the other side. Aiming. Nothing... Fight or flight... I 180... and run. Back to the outer side of the wall. Zig zag! Due West as fast as I can! " pow pow pow pow pow pow pow! " He's firing on me! " pow pow pow pow! " I'm dripping blood! But I'm not stopping for nothin! Zig zag. No more shots but I keep running in zig zag for 2 minutes until I hit the horizon. Then I go prone and apply the bandage. Then I check my UK Army utility vest and see that it's been ruined. I love that vest with its 8 pockets. Then I realise that my heart is still pounding. My hands IRL are shaking. Was that the guy I befriended? Did he lie and try to murder me? I don't know. What an amazing game that I don't know. FIN. My name is Lemansky in game please don't shoot me. TL;DR this game has my balls in a vice and I love it. I survived again. Just. Edit: cleaned it up a bit. [link] [comments] | ||

| A Question Regarding Gamma and Night (Strawpoll) Posted: 02 May 2017 02:57 PM PDT I'm curious as to how many people turn up their gamma at night in order to see better (mainly for a PvP advantage). I've always thought how it would be nice to have gamma locked at a certain percentange (whatever the default is, 50%?) to make night time actually night time. I find myself turning up my gamma (60 or 70%) because I don't want to be at a disadvantage in PvP.
TL;DR: I'm asking: how many people turn their gamma up at night? [link] [comments] | ||

| Will the finished game look as good as the Last Of Us Factions? Posted: 02 May 2017 04:17 PM PDT I adore how it looks. And it looks really similar to DZ but not as good. Like it lacks the polish ( by a margin ). I'm not a game developer or involved in that type of thing in any way so please be forgiving in your answers. I think what im asking is how far can DZ go? I love DayZ. Love it. I'm 45 hours in and I'm having a racing heartbeat and sweating because of how good it is. The interactions with murderous bandits is fantastic. But the interiors. Man, they're the equivalent of a tin of cold beans for supper. They do the job but... I love how " lived in " TLOUF looks. Subjective, of course but I feel the " sorrow " of having lost the homes and businesses. They feel real. The cardboard cutout houses and structures in DayZ are affecting emersion for me. I don't mean to hate at all but it's true. Thoughts? ( fyi this is still an amazing game for me ) My name is Lemansky in game please don't shoot me ( I'm learning the hard way that most of you will ). [link] [comments] | ||
| Gun Sway in DayZ - Ruining Gameplay Posted: 02 May 2017 06:33 PM PDT Any idea if this will ever be addressed? It is completely over-exaggerated, it goes beyond realism. It simply isn't enjoyable, at all. [link] [comments] |
