Bloodstone on Clock

Posted: 04 May 2017 07:17 PM PDT

So recently, I've been spamming clock and trying different item builds for different scenarios. Such as radiance against right click, as well as halberd on occasions. One I really like is bloodstone, once I have aghs, I'd go for bloodstone if I'm behind and I'd end up farming so much gold that I could retire. Why is bloodstone not commonly picked up on clock, it helps him farm so well as well as staying present through teamfights.

Hi guys, i need help with my support gameplay(low 3k)

Posted: 04 May 2017 03:25 PM PDT

I just played one game as disruptor and I felt like I did so many things right I definitely should have not lost that game.

Dotabuff of that game: https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3157624540

It would be great if players that are better than me would watch that game. I was playing against riki and SB in lane and I fed first blood in really stupid way, but after that one big mistake I think I impacted this game in very positive way:

  1. I was trying to lead my team and was telling them to group up to avoid being picked off by riki + SB.

  2. I was placing sentries when we were pushing towers and when we were ganking them.

  3. I was using my skills to gank and impact teamfights - got some great ults, some not so great.

It would take forever to list all other things I tried to do in that game so instead I will leave some questions for you guys.

  • Is my amount of deaths acceptable? I found myself being 0/4/4 in early game but after that moment I think I was playing much safer, but still I died few times, mostly because of riki and SB just going full force on me in teamfights.
  • Should I have more farm? I was scared of riki + bara combo killing me very fast if they see me alone farming
  • How can I pressure better? All I can think of is pushing towers, but finally they killed us at their melee rax in mid lane and after that we just got stomped = alchemist was just unkillable to my team. We also did few smoke ganks but all of them failed - we only killed cm.
  • Was I getting enough detection for my team? I felt like it was enough - we lost maybe two kills due to invis and it was early(maybe mid) game when i just had no gold/cour to buy sentries.
  • Did we even had to pressure their team? I wanted to group up more as a counter to bara and riki not becasue I was scared of their scalling. I felt like we had stronger late game with magnus and furion. Enemies had only alchemist to carry them, but somehow he did it.

Also if you notice any other outstanding things if my gameplay please tell me. I am curious if I am not losing just due to low mechanical skill. Or maybe I can blame my team for this one? :P

As always, sorry for bad englando and for long post

Replay analysis of a storm spirit game

Posted: 04 May 2017 07:08 PM PDT

Hi all, I'm not a frequent storm player but I would like to be one. Seems like a good hero that I would like. Match ID is 3157792004, dotabuff:https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3157792004

I know some basic fundamentals of storm, like dropping arcanes when using soul ring, using spell-attack-spell-attack for max damage. There were some times I felt like I could kill silencer in lane but only got 1 because I wasn't confident in myself. I didn't jungle as much because we had a jungle troll, and centaur was using offlane jungle a decent amount, but I would say I won my lane overall, so didn't matter too much. Other than that, anything is welcome! We had a salty warlock so the team was constantly on edge, and axe would mess me up with call + blademail and warlock didn't put that good of wards for mid. Anything else you would like to say about my game would be appreciated!

Idiot needs a hard carry to use in 1k games

Posted: 04 May 2017 11:31 AM PDT

I normally play mid or offlane, support if needed. Best I can do right now is Jugg/Ursa, which get outcarried by "real" carries, and I'm not very experienced with either anyway.

Medusa seems really good because she's got offense and defense even in the laning stage, which is rare.

I really want to like Spectre because of her winrate and the fact that the ones I see at this level become almost unkillable once they get Radiance. I just cannot get past her poor laning phase. Even in bot games, it seems like even if you play super-defensively, if the enemy wants to kill you, they can just bum-rush you and kill you. So I don't know how people even play her in 1k games with their 2v2 lanes and infrequent supports. Yet somehow she's almost 60% WR; if I could understand how I'd pick her up in a second.

Morphling seems like, while fun, he's just as weak as Spectre early and harder to play late, so I don't know. AM I tried briefly and couldn't figure out how to actually do significant damage to people (maybe was fighting too early).

Any others that you would put on the "hard carry" list to consider? Lifestealer? Troll? Dragon Knight? I refuse to learn LC because I am going to puke if I see another one.

Really I'm just looking to learn one, maybe two max from this group so we aren't totally screwed in those games when our team's first three picks are two supports and an offlaner, and the other guy wants mid.

How do I counter a good Invoker?!?!

Posted: 04 May 2017 06:28 PM PDT

This guy has seriously been getting on my nerves in recent games, and I've been doing the usual to counter him. Pick heroes that counter him, BKB, ganks, etc. None of it seems to ever work.

Pick a hero that counters him or silence? He sticks with his team and is untouchable because of it. BKB? He either blinks, force staff, ghost walk, or Eul's out. Then comes back to rape you. Wanna gank him? Refer to above, except add Linkens and/or BKB. Have none of this? GG.

Seriously, how do I beat this guy (specifically late game)?!

How do I avoid being seen by wards?

Posted: 04 May 2017 12:27 PM PDT

I'm trying to improve my roaming support, and especially in the first half of the game, I find that I'm doing work just by being off the map. How do I determine whether an area is likely warded?

Does there exist a statistical "most commonly warded locations"? What clues are there when I don't have the map control to see people ward that they might have a location warded?

Wasn't there a Matchmaking patch?

Posted: 04 May 2017 03:47 PM PDT

https://www.opendota.com/matches/3157674757/overview

Sorry about the rant, but I'm serious . We just got matched with a 4stack with 5k puck that rolled over us. We got a Dota lvl 15 beginner in our team and a 1.6k drow jungle. How is this balanced? Did they destroy matchmaking instead of fixing it? I thought there was a rule that you can't play vs somebody with ~2k difference. Puck was 2.7k above me in mid and 3.4k above drow (also probably he was just boosting an account, as he did not play in the last 2 months and suddenly he only got dem juicy green Ws) How is this allowed or even possible? Is matchmaking screwed and we should stop playing?

MMR calibration dependant on KDA?

Posted: 04 May 2017 03:07 PM PDT

I've come across this information recently and I was really baffled by this. Is this really a thing? I have done my calibration playing mostly as a hard support (8 games support, 70% winrate) and I received pretty low 2.6k mmr. Provided I have pretty terrible winrate at nonranked(more or less 50%), is this really possible that I have hurt myself playing as a support in calibration time? What's even logic behind that :O

Difference between Net worth and GPM?

Posted: 04 May 2017 02:21 AM PDT

I'm sure this must be easily available somewhere but I couldn't seem to find it.

Whats the difference between GPM and Net worth? (aside the obvious).

One includes something the other doesn't, since I had a game where I had a higher GPM but lower Net worth than someone. Presumably buybacks reduce Net but dont reduce GPM? Is there anything else that influences a difference between the two?

Played Huskar for 1st time

Posted: 03 May 2017 09:54 PM PDT

I HATE leaning against Huskar - such a tricky little fucker.

As a new players of 4 months with NO previous MOBA experience I am trying to play new heroes aside from my core.

Tonight was Huskar - and OMG he seems OP.

I went 32/13/5 - given a slum ass pub game, nonetheless it was blast

I love how people see you low health and continue to rush at you which is exactly what you want. I am sure that stops the farther up the MMR chain you go.

Super low cool downs and little mana - easy to play due to easy mechanics.

A few questions: - what is his power curve? Does he drop off at some point in standard games?

  • who are his promary counters?

  • don't think I've ever seen him in pro frames, why? Is he played at higher levels of MMR?

  • any solid recommendations on items other than Tortes guide?

Doing an educational stream on leaving the trench (almost to 3k!)

Posted: 04 May 2017 02:20 PM PDT

Between February of 2016 and February of 2017, I climbed over 2000MMR from under 800MMR to over 2800. I calibrated far too early at about 800MMR. I am not a mechanically skilled gamer, but my devotion to learning more about the game has allowed me to climb continuously. I don't know if I'll reach it, but my unrealistic and realistic MMR goals by June 2018 are 5000 and 4500MMR respectively.

I will be playing music, watching chat and I'd love to answer any questions about how I climbed, what I learned, and discuss my future goals and developments for Dota 2 (and streaming).

I am starting a regular stream schedule, and I'll start streaming around 5:00-5:30pm EST Mondays through Thursdays. I'll be on until 9-10 usually, later if I feel up to it.

Please come check it out! I'd love to hear feedback about my gameplay, but please don't flame me. I will read and consider item/skill build recommendations, but I can't really discuss them during games because I get too distracted by it.

Viper early game items.

Posted: 04 May 2017 10:23 AM PDT

Shadow Blade is the thing to go to on Viper nowadays. Unless the team already have invisible heroes or other heroes that also build Shadow Blade as core item (in both cases, it is better to steer away from Viper), this is definitely the go to. Viper is very strong in 1v1 situation and the bonus damage from Shadow Blade allows the first attack to deal significant damage, thus letting Nethertoxin come into play. The change to Clarity and Fountain removes mana disadvantage.

Currently, I will always try to get this as fast as possible, regardless what is going on. I tend to get it at minute 8-10. And that means having a Wraith Band and one set of Tangos for the duration. After getting Shadow Blade, it is all ganking.

However, most people do it differently. There are 2 other builds that are common from what I can see:

Normal progression. That means Power Treads, Ring of Aquila and Dragon Lance. These items make Viper stronger overall but do not give him an additional ability. He is still slow and cannot initiate. Pros can time their items correctly, but getting Shadow Blade after minute 15 seems a bit late. That does not prevent people from trying, though.

Hand of Midas. What is there to say? Greedy build. Since Viper has poor farm capacity in mid game, he has to constantly gank to gain income and snowball into the late game. This reduces ganking potential for higher income.

So in which situation should I change my build to the two I have mentioned? As I have said, I rarely ever use them. Any advice on how to make these builds work?

Questions about Bristle's back and Necro's Ghost Shroud

Posted: 04 May 2017 09:43 AM PDT

  • For Bristle's back to proc quills, does it have a timer you need to complete from the first damage instance til the required threshold?
  • Does Centaur's Double Edge do damage while Necro is in Ghost Shroud mode? Centaur's DE is magical but I feel like it is doing no damage.

In a match against 3 physical carries, is it worth it buying blademail on a hero you normally wouldn't?

Posted: 04 May 2017 01:28 PM PDT

If you are invoker, a low armor hero, against a PA, and keep getting picked off by her solo, considering there are other heroes this item will help against, an juggernaut and a wraith king, it it too bad to build it? It would give armor, damage, int, all that invoker wants and needs plus the sweet active, even if invoker doesn't have a large hp pool, the item alone would be reflecting ~600 damage.

Learn Lion from pieliedie's performances at the Shanghai Major

Posted: 04 May 2017 09:04 AM PDT

Today, pieliedie has moved from Secret to NP and it made think of why I regard him as such a top support player.

What sticks out for me was watching him play in the Shanghai Major, in particular his plays as Lion. Thankfully, someone's put the time into clipping together his best bits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uft2EP3-wAc

I learnt a lot from watching PLD's performances and if you're thinking of learning Lion (or improving your skills), I think you can certainly learn a lot from them

What kind of content do you want?

Posted: 04 May 2017 12:14 PM PDT

I don't want this post to be too much about me, but in the near future, I wanted to make some guides (text/video) about various aspects of DotA that I hope will one day cover most topics. But whether I make it or maybe someone else here makes it, I thought I'd ask the community what content y'all actually want to see, and how you want to see it, and maybe get a small discussion going so that any content creator can see it and decide if they want to tackle it.

So, feel free to mention anything. Maybe you wanted a guide on supporting but felt there aren't any good ones out now. If you prefer long stuff or short. Things you'd like to see more of, things you'd like to see less of. Maybe if a guide already exists for it, we can share those too or something

Questions for Abaddon players

Posted: 04 May 2017 12:00 PM PDT

Dotabuff informs me that Abaddon is one of the highest WR heroes in the game, but he sure isn't for me. So I have a couple of questions:

  • Is Abaddon generally strong or a situational pick? Should I only pick him if I expect to get a good bit of farm in the offlane, or is it fine if I just scrape by surviving and getting the odd last hit and bounty rune?
  • Do I put Aphotic Shield on myself before going into a fight and then run and use it whenever it is off cooldown, or do I wait to put it on key heroes or for key disables?
  • If I go in first and get initiated on, do I keep to the backline after my Ultimate has been popped or do I keep going and die gloriously?
  • How liberally do I use Aphotic Shield in the laning phase? Once for every creepwave so I can get a few last hits, or do I keep it for when they go on me? I always seem to run out of mana in the Laning stage, and when I watch others playing Abaddon, the enemy safelaner usually backs off when he sees Aphotic Shield, whereas I just get focus and it gets popped pretty much immediately and I take heavy damage.
  • How flexible is the build on Abaddon? Is it pretty much always Midas and Radiance after some cheap early game items, or is it more common to go for specific items according to enemy team makeup?

Please feel free to answer individual questions if you have something to say for some but not for all of them! Thanks for your help!

I have some am questions

Posted: 04 May 2017 07:33 AM PDT

Today I played anti mage for the first time and found him to be pretty fun. So I have got some questions about him- 1. What is the point if his ulti and when to use it? 2. What items should I get for him and in which order? 3. I which order should I upgrade abilities?

In a dual offlane, should the support or core go take their own rune?

Posted: 04 May 2017 06:38 AM PDT

Is it better for the support to go get it (so they don't sap XP from the lane creeps), or is it worth it for the core to go get it while the support stays in lane for a little bit?

let's talk about Spectre

Posted: 04 May 2017 07:53 AM PDT

This hero has the highest winrate right now and it's not even that close. https://www.dotabuff.com/heroes/winning To give perspective the gap between Spectre (1st) and Zeus (2nd) is bigger than the gap between Zues (2nd) and Abbadon (6th).

Not only that Spectre's winrate is > 55% in all but the >5k skill bracket...and even there it's a very respectable 53%. So question, what can i do as a solo queue only player? I know shut her down early and end the game early. This isn't easy when your team doesn't want to do that, or your carry thinks they can out carry a spectre. But as many of you in the <5k bracket know, it's not easy trying to coordinate a team to high ground and take objectives. Even in her "worst versus matchups", lifestealer is her "worst match up" and still she sports a 56.55% winrate.

Can someone please give some specific things i can do to beat this cancerous hero? (besides, stop her early and ban her). Whether it's pick or strats...i don't know. Pretty tilted right now and when i see her i just assume i lose. And also i have played her, and i understand how weak she is in lane...but eventually when the team doesn't end in time...spectre will get radiance, manta, diffusal...and it's gg. Literally i got a 28 minute phase, urn, radiance (super late) and somehow still won. I don't like playing the farm heavy heroes that's why i don't just play her for the cheap wins, but somehow i feel like i'll have to resort to this...

how do you survive against bashes as a TA
