Learn Dota 2 - Pugna mid in 7.06

Pugna mid in 7.06

Posted: 16 May 2017 04:20 PM PDT

With his strong buffs and item changes, I think he's a fairly viable mid now. I haven't had terribly much of a chance to test if yet, but I plan to grind some games with him over the coming weeks. In the meantime, here's why I think he potentially fits now:

The new mid changes fit him pretty well. He has the aoe to push out the wave, and he can take a tower quickly if the enemy mid ever leaves. He also greatly benefits from the deny change: decrepify is a great laning tool that also offers great harass against low range or melee enemies. The extra mid creep also helps him level faster, to get to his key health talent that greatly shores up his fragility.

It's also notable that pugnas pushing power is not hurt by the tower armor increase.

As for the skill build, I think maxing ward early is a mistake. Ward doesn't gain much from extra levels, it just improved the mana drain (negligible) and the damage increases by 75%. Meanwhile, decrepify scales greatly with levels, improving the damage, slow, and CD. So at the moment, I believe it is most efficient to max blast first and decrepify second, only getting a single point of ward when you expect to be pushing with team (You might be able to get away with only doing this at level 11 with increased exp). Lifedrain when possible, and always prioritize talents over skills.

Talents

Level 10: I think the HP is overall better. Mana regen improved your early farm quite a bit, but you shouldn't be hurting for mana regen with the new aether.

Level 15: You could go either way here. Decrepify is probably better if you're going for an aghs build. I don't see any clear winner though.

Level 20: Unless you're against some drastically high mana cost enemies, I think the range is much better. The ability to blast buildings from far away is pretty important.

Level 25: The blast damage pushes your nuke into the 500+ range. I think this is overall better, but if you're extremely farmed then I see a case for the life drain.

Items

Pugna is reasonably flexible when it comes to items, but there are two key items I think he should buy every game: veil and aether. A target affected by veil and decrepify takes 487 damage from blast, and with aether it's pushed to 517. Keep in mind this is after standard reductions. Compare to finger of death, which is 450.

Pugna can utilize this insane burst to push towers, threatening to obliterate anyone who dares walk within range. And with aether, that range is quite large.

Items after that are pretty flexible. Viable items include aghs, bkb, blink, dagon, Shivas, linkens, hex, force, and probably more that I forgot. He may be a little less reliant on aghs than before since his life drain is much more reliable, and his items might open up as a result.

How do you use Brew's Split to it's full potential?

Posted: 16 May 2017 01:18 PM PDT

I really enjoy playing brewmaster but I always feel like I'm very bad at using his ult. I'm generally not very sure who to target with what panda or if I'm just supposed to send all of them on one and who the best targets for my skills are.

Is there any statistics on the relationship between LC's Duel Wins and winrate?

Posted: 16 May 2017 06:13 AM PDT

My friend and I had different approaches to playing LC.

For me, winning duels is the primary part of my game plan. I only duel when I know I am going to win it (with or without help). I am less likely to duel if i know that the target is going to die only after the duel.

My friend thinks its better to be liberal with duels as long as it locks down a crucial target first.

not trying to prove anyone entirely wrong, just wondering what does the statistics on this imply.

Quick question: Is the 30% deny xp shared or only to the person who gets the deny?

What can I do against a Bloodseeker

Posted: 16 May 2017 08:29 AM PDT

I'm a generally new player, coming from League with 1800 hours and now about 100 hours on Dota 2, but I have no idea what to do against Bloodseeker. It seems most games I play against his Rupture+Ritual combo is near impossible to dodge. I have built Black King Bar against him but most go Agahims for the pure damage. I'm confused on what to do against this, any help?

Is it a bad idea to play Random Draft in ranked?

Posted: 16 May 2017 01:52 PM PDT

I don't really like seeing the same heroes over and over in All Pick. At the same time, I'd like my team at least trying to win. Random Draft in ranked seems perfect for this. Is there any reason I shouldn't do this?

Hey guys, I'm a 3.8k offlaner, I play every role but I specialize in offlane, and if any of you guys want to log in while I'm streaming and ask questions or critique my play or anything please do so, I will try my best to communicate with chat the whole time. I'll be on a twitch.tv/arc_tan

maybe some of the higher mmr streamers don't answer questions you like, or you want to see how someone in a different bracket plays, I don't know! But i'll be there every so often, so follow me and if I'm streaming tune in and say hi!

Thanks guys, I'm a big fan of the community.

Early game Invoker in 7.06

Posted: 16 May 2017 11:44 AM PDT

Hey everyone. I was wanting to play some Invoker tonight (unranked :P) and am curious about playing him with the new changes. Is Q/E the best choice with shrine/deny changes and what about starting items? How viable is bracer into Rod of Atos?

[Question] Battlepass Quest - Damage while using Glimmer Cape

Posted: 16 May 2017 07:13 PM PDT

Hi,

I would like to find out whether for the Battlepass Quest - The one which requires you to deal damage while using Glimmer Cape, is it possible to use other heroes other than CM or Enigma?

E.g. Can QoP be used? Use glimmer and then casting her spells?

Can Legion be played as a support?

Posted: 16 May 2017 12:54 PM PDT

/u/CptnSAUS mentioned in another thread:

Press the attack does a million things! Removes STUNS, gives attack speed (maybe to the AM who has a basher), gives health regen (maybe to a dying support).

This is exactly why Legion has always seemed, to me, a great support. It's probably the best purge in the game. Her ult is good lockdown for your carries to kill someone, which ends up giving you damage too as a nice bonus.

Admittedly, Overwhelming Odds and Moment of courage aren't really anything that can help the team, other than the illusion clear of OO. But is it possible to run her as a support, maybe, maybe not?

In-Houses with Coaches, Casted with Analysis TONIGHT at 6:30 PM ET - #TeachYouTuesday Week 12

Posted: 16 May 2017 12:27 PM PDT

7.06 #TeachYOUTuesday In-House Workshop Event!

In-Houses with Coaches, Casted with Analysis

Tonight, Tuesday 5/15, at 5:30 PM ET, we'll be focusing on drafting based on the new meta brought in from 7.06, along with discussing theories and major hero changes. We will still be discussing gameplay of both teams' gameplay in depth across the game with a panel discussion at the end.

Teach YOU Tuesday is a weekly educational series that will give new and experienced players an opportunity to play in a competitive setting without the pressures of toxic team members.

Anyone who participates in the game should be able to review the cast (along with having a coach live in the game) and should receive insight to improve their performance. Best of all, you can join as a solo player or full team!

Click HERE for the Sign Up Form

Note: Have you signed up in a previous week and see this message screen or want to update your info? Click the edit button, scroll down, select which game you'd like to participate in, and I'll see you tonight!

Participant Information:

Coaches will be focusing on guiding your team on how to be effective in communicating strategy in the pre-phase (drafting) along with active decision making throughout the game (shot-calling).

They should not be used as a crutch to rely on for guidance in the game but rather an information source for questions on itemization, ward locations, positioning, spell interactions, and any other questions that may come up. Since participants will need to draft and shot-call in conjunction with playing with new people, it's a great way for novice players to experience a more competitive style of the game, Captain's Mode.

http://www.twitch.tv/sKaiHIGHgaming

What to Expect as a Viewer

You will learn how to draft based on the changes of 7.06.

There are two ways content may be delivered tonight:

  • Team Voice Comm Style

I sit in with one of the teams on Discord in order to allow the entire stream to hear how coaches are impacting the way the players are shot-calling, communicating, and affecting their habits.

I will be muted in the Discord to the players, and I will be providing commentary on how the coaches are leading and organizing the team. Creating cohesive drafts that accomplish something while playing with novice players can be difficult, so overhearing the communication may be helpful for the stream to listen to. For this style I would be focused on one team, either Radiant or Dire, for the entire match. We may have another caster focus on the opposite team (potentially with another live stream), details TBD.

  • Coaching & Analysis Style

Traditional casting style of discussing theory behind the "why" people are doing things, rather than strictly providing play-by-play hype.
I will be joined by a co-caster, preferably another Dota 2 Coach, who will assist in the overall analysis of the game while making notation of key points in the game for us to review afterwards. We will review those fight recaps, using immersive teaching methods (think Purge weatherman-style) to make it easily digestible information for all.

If you're a coach with experience in live team coaching, have dabbled in casting, and can stream, contact me regarding casting the opposing team's communication feed and providing commentary.

Game Format

  • Game One: Estimated 6:30-6:45 PM ET Start Time
  • Novice Skill Player Game
  • Preferred game average of 2.5k MMR or less based on registrants, could be higher

  • Game Two: 9:00pm ET Start Time (time is based on previous game, could be earlier)
  • Open Skill Player Game, Novice & Advanced Players Welcome
  • No MMR skill cap, games balanced to the best of my ability based on registrants.
  • Note: Coaches may need to participate rather than coach depending on skill levels of players involved in the match.

If you signed up for a previous week and have not yet played in this Weekly Community Event, please DM me on Discord or post here and reference your sign up name. I'll do my best to get you included tonight.

For the love of <insert deity>

Posted: 16 May 2017 02:38 PM PDT

I've been playing Dota 2 for around 60hrs now and I'm level 17. I can do the basics but I'm not a gamer as such and have just bought the season pass to up my amusement.

I've noticed that since I've bought the pass I've hardly won a game. Now prior to this I did ok, probably a win-loss-win-loss ratio, now I've lost ~17 and won ~2. Does something drastically change with passes?

Also, one of the things to beat is 'Purge using Manta Style'. What the hell does that even mean? It's a mirror image item isn't it?

Thanks.

What could I have done better in this game [Phantom Lancer]

Posted: 16 May 2017 06:18 PM PDT

So I was the last pick in the game and I chose to pick phantom lancer as I looked at their lineup and decided that they wouldn't be able to deal with the barrage of illusions and that it would be a relatively easy game for us.

The laning stage was mid against Tinker which was of course a nightmare for me and the first blood was due to me overextending into Tinker's range. After that I tried to get a quick raindrop to minimise the damage he was outputting and did my best to farm whatever I could.

I hit my first powerspike with the diffusal blade acquisition even though it might be abit late and I tried to be more aggressive but that lead to quite a few deaths so I would like to get some advice on how to increase my farm or my itemisation.

TLDR: Bad laning start. Little farm. Too many deaths. Little kills. How to improve?

Ember, Refresher Spirt

Posted: 16 May 2017 02:10 PM PDT

Is Refresher on Ember a viable option now, since refresher refreshes charges? Maybe this can be an alternative, more burst dmg build as an alternative to Octarine? 1800+ AOE DMG nuke Ember seems quite crazy to me.

Here's pros: Much more dmg, obviously It fits into Embers core build of veil, bot, maelstorm. One perserverance can be built early in game, to solve mana issues, rest after maelstrom. Solves mana issues completely Hp regeneration

I can see this becoming a thing and I'm quite surprised no one mentioned this. Especially concerning a new melee creep on mid which gives 650 additional gold by minute 10 if killed on every wave. 900 gold by minute 15.

Which is just enough for void stone, right?

Now take a look at this ember build:

2 branches, axe, shield, tangos (start of the game, optional) Then regular boots, wands, bottle (till minute 5, wands/bottle optional) Then Voidstone + Veil (till minute 12) Then Maelstorm + Ring of Health (till minute 20) BoT (till minute 23) Refresher (till minute 30 max)

Alternatively, get BoT + Ring of Health before Maelstorm.

What do u guys think?

Additionally, Aether Lens could also fit Embers magical build now, cause, u know, changes - it gives mana regen now. Maybe as an optional item early game - right after veil and Bot, if ur having a hard game and are low on farm.

What am I missing in these 2 games?

Posted: 16 May 2017 11:51 AM PDT

I played Axe this game and Phoenix a couple of days ago. In both cases I was rotating early, dominating the game and helping take over the towers.

https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3184900987 (Axe) https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3170002854 (Phoenix)

And then it all went down the drain and we lost. What am I missing here, and what should I understand about the situation?

I don't usually play either heroes so I understand that I sucked in playing them.

Why did we lose [Faceless Void]

Posted: 16 May 2017 05:10 PM PDT

So I had a game of Void ytd and I was solo safelane, up against a bristleback solo lane also, however I believe the matchup had a slight advantage on his side, he was able to control the lane for the first 3mins; he would spray everytime I come close, forcing me to back off. I think I ended up with about 40/40+lh by 10 which I know is below average esp against a solo melee hero. However I had free farm for the first 10 or so minutes and did the occasional jungle before returning to lane to get my last hits. The item timings were abit slow and I'm looking for advice on what I could have done to better improve my game. I felt like MoM was a core but if I had gotten MoM I couldn't have brought down the Meepo so I went for the Maelstrom instead. I felt like I had already maximised my farm but is that true?

Questions:

  1. How can I increase my farm?

  2. What could I have done to win the game?

TLDR: I almost had free farm and yet my networth isn't particularly high either??
