League of Legends might get voice chat - Riot are reviewing it "very positively"

Voicing thoughts: "I'm super stoked for voice-chat," claims Californian man while rap music plays in the background.

Posted: 16 May 2017 12:10 PM PDT

A Californian man, Rush Sykes, was interviewed today for his opinion on Riot's latest update on the status of voice chat. As worries about toxicity in voice form arise across internet communities everywhere, he has a different, more positive outlook.

"It--cool man--haha. Hello? Hello?" Claimed Rush, while Death Grips blared in the background. He went on to make a surprising claim. "You know, all those people saying it would be bad are total GUILLOTIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE--HAH!"

Riot previously was concerned about implementing the feature, due to the fact god knows what garbage is going to replace current League culture. Beside Rush, our reporters also made contact with xXRobloxObstacleCoursesXx, who according to chat logs is a twenty-year-old male with plenty of experience on psychology. Unlike Sykes, he has reservations against the feature.

Right off the bat, Roblox had a polarizing view of the situation. "Mom--mom I'm trying to interview--MOM-uh! I DON'T WANT TO EAT YET! MOM-uh!" His passion towards the subject reduced him to tears, as reporters had no choice to leave the call while he sobbed and murmured over and over that "he was very sorry and wanted his computer back, mommy, PLEASE-uh."

In response to Roblox, Sykes offered a counterclaim that made a lot of sense. Due to poor connection quality, however, we were unable to figure out how it goes it goes it goes it goes it goes it goes it goes, though there was an unrelated invitation to smoke weed that somehow made it through just fine.

Finally, in order to gather the full circumference of opinions, reporters reached out to pro players.

"Voice-chat?" Asks Wildturtle, marksman for TSM. "That would have been awesome at MSI!"

At press time, xxRobloxObstacleCoursesXx got his computer taken away again for trying to sound cool around Sykes, by insisting he smoked a lot of weed himself.

Up next: Top analysts give their opinions on tie-breakers.

Surrender Now, an unofficial Surrender at 20 Discord Bot!

Posted: 16 May 2017 07:00 AM PDT

Hello, I'm /u/Apakovtac, creator of Surrender Now! I'd like to introduce you to Surrender Now.

Surrender Now is an unofficial Surrender at 20 bot for Discord. Surrender Now can post in servers and send a direct message to subscribers (opt-in feature) of all new or updated posts on Surrender at 20.

Current features

  • Subscription
    • Receive a DM when a post was released or updated. You won't miss one.
  • Filter out categories
    • Surrender Now won't be sending you posts with the filtered categories.
  • Suppress categories update
    • Surrender Now won't send you updates with the corresponding categories.
  • Specific channel for specific categories
    • Surrender Now will post in that specific channel, if set.
  • Subtle status notification
  • Improved search feature
    • Surrender Now has an improved search feature, specifically created because Surrender at 20 built-in's search is really weird.

Things you should be aware of

  • Surrender Now commands must be prefixed by mentioning Surrender Now. This is not a requirement in direct messages.
  • Posts updates are updated frequently, most notably PBE posts, and can lead to spam from Surrender Now, therefore post updates are suppressed by default. You can turn them on in DMs and servers using @Surrender Now config update all on
  • Rotations post is turned off by default, because I think it's the least desired category. You can turn this on with @Surrender Now config allow rotations on

Setting up Surrender Now

If you want to add the bot, Send Messages and Embed Links is required for the bot to post messages in the server. Read Messages is required for Surrender Now to respond to your commands.

Once the bot joins the server, the owner or any members with either Administrators or Manage Servers permission can configure Surrender Now to the desired settings. Learn more with @Surrender Now ? config

Others

I created a server dedicated to Surrender Now. Feedback and suggestions are always appreciated!

My Discord is Apakovtac#6019, and if there's anything you need help with, don't hesistate to send me a message!

EDIT: Surrender Now is under maintenance!

EDIT 2: Surrender Now is back up! Sorry about that one.

EDIT 3: I'm rewriting the config command to improve clarity as well as fix all problems... I was lazy on this command. My bad.

After 10,000 years of development we forged this... Check it out!

Hey Everyone!

Our team at Mobalytics would like to share a new tool with you: stats.mobalytics.gg.

Why We Built This

Since November, we have been working intensely with players of all skill levels to try and understand how they want to view their League information, and what they use to improve their game. The majority of our work goes toward building the main Mobalytics app and the Gamer Performance Index that we are hell-bent on creating. To conduct our research, we spent a huge amount of time using many different league sites ESPECIALLY op.gg.

We realized that our demands were too high for the tools we were using. We wanted to allow quicker searches and figure out how to access different timing windows of stats (both in-game and across player lifetime) and be able to compare the patterns we found to deliver the best information for users on how to improve. To accomplish this, we built a set of internal tools that allowed the team to immediately forage for whatever information they needed. Long story short, we decided to turn those internal tools into a site everyone could use and enjoy. If you want more details check out our blog: here.

What Makes It Different

Here is the lowdown on the new features:

  • Versatile Condition Filtering: You can search through your matches and find the matches with specific constraints (for example: all your Vayne vs Caitlyn matches provided there are enough of them to meet the threshold).

  • Personal Records: Everyone loves looking at their own high scores, so we built a page that showcases some of your personal bests. Share with your friends, shit talk, and compare yourself to your hero (or nemesis).

  • Graphs, so many Graphs:We added a robust graphs section for you to be super analytical with. It's far from final, but right now you can look at many things across different roles, champs, matchups, victory conditions, and number of games. Even cooler, you can click on a specific data point and go straight to that game!

  • Match Details: We created several sections and put in features like Match Records (shamelessly inspired by the Overwatch post-game screen), clear timeline plots, as well as map visualizations of the game.

  • It's real pretty!

Okay enough of me talking. Check it out: https://stats.mobalytics.gg

TL,DR: Visit our site and tell us what you think! Help us make it better.

Sincerely, Uth

EDIT 1- Thanks for all the feedback and use. We are not used to this amount of load, and the site is slower than expected. So please be patient if your profile doesn't load, and try and refresh. We are working hard to solve loading issues.

EDIT 2- Still work on increasing our ability to handle load. Not quite there, so thank you for your patience. One thing you can do is use CTRL+F5 to refresh and clear your cache. We have identified a problem this is causing with loading some profiles.

I would be honored if you guys could answer this easy question and/or explain your thoughts about it since i am curious about what community thinks about it.

Best of the Bots - Round of 32 RESULTS

Posted: 16 May 2017 07:14 AM PDT

If you've missed the last couple posts, tl;dr: The intermediate bots are playing a 1v1 tournament under Snowdown Showdown rules (first blood, first tower, or first to 100cs wins)

So, first things first, here's the results of the round of 32 played yesterday.

UPDATE: thanks to /u/Wabbbit7 for the link, I've set it up as a Challonge bracket which you can see there. Included is the bracket for the rest of the games, as well as attached to each match are the in depth stats about it. Check it out! (It's much nicer to look at that this table here)

Blue Red Condition
Zilean 1 0 Blitzcrank Tower
Vladimir 0 1 Xin Zhao Tower
Galio 1 0 Ziggs Kill
Nasus 1 0 Karthus Kill
Garen 1 0 Master Yi Kill
Malphite 0 1 Kog'Maw Tower
Wukong 0 1 Swain Tower
Cho'Gath 1 0 Brand Kill
Lux 0 1 Annie Kill
Jax 0 1 Jarvan IV Kill
Ryze 0 1 Amumu Kill
Leona 1 0 Miss Fortune Kill
Graves 0 1 Zyra Tower
Ezreal 1 0 Ashe Tower
Lucian 1 0 Dr. Mundo Tower
Irelia 0 1 Caitlyn Tower

The thread got way more attention that I thought it would, so I'm taking a bit of time to improve the tournament based on all the comments I got. Specifically;

  • As trialled with the Garen VS Master Yi game, starting in the quarter final I'm going to start making highlights to post along with the results.
  • I know some people want a Twitch stream of the games too, but for a few reasons (more people wanted highlights, some games need remakes/other technical problems, need for a spectator, potato laptop) I've decided against it. However, if there's anyone on EUW who'd like to spectate the lobbies to stream them then send me a DM and we can try to sort something.
  • Also I know some people want the results shown in a better, less illegible way. I've had a go at tabling it out but I'll try to get an infographic out for the next round; as well as including all the data from the games in case people care.
  • Some people have been debating over whether ranged/melee champions have an innate advantage. Based on the games played so far, melee vs ranged matchups have exactly a 50% win rate (12 to 12).
  • With regard to blue/red side advantage, blue side has 19 wins to red side having 17; which isn't a big enough margin to suggest any unfairness. Even so, once the quarter finals arrive and games become Bo3, I'll have champions switch sides just to be safe.
  • Practically, to run the simulations I'm currently letting the two bots fight it out in the bot lane (no pun intended), while I idle soaking exp in the top lane. This is because minions push harder based on the average level of the teams, so maintaining the same level as the blue side champion is necessary for total fairness. Even so, this is not 100% perfect, and while no games have been close enough yet for it to matter, now this has attracted more attention I'm going to change how I do this; by getting a smurf on the other team to both idle in base to ensure total fairness.
  • A new patch is rolling out tomorrow. If any of the bots receive direct buffs or nerfs, I'm prepared to retcon the results by replaying as many games as possible if people want, but if not then the finals will just be played on patch 7.10 instead of 7.9.
  • First brick replaced with tower. You're welcome.

In order to get the best results possible, the quarter finals are going to be delayed until Friday, so I can finish Uni and go home to use a second laptop to smurf in the custom. Before that, though, the round of 16 is happening tonight, so vote for your favourites below!

Blue Red Poll
Zilean vs Xin Zhao VOTE
Galio vs Nasus VOTE
Garen vs Kog'Maw VOTE
Swain vs Cho'Gath VOTE
Annie vs Jarvan IV VOTE
Amumu vs Leona VOTE
Zyra vs Ezreal VOTE
Lucian vs Caitlyn VOTE

And, because I'm a stats nerd, here's a few more about this round;

  • 8 of the wins are from first blood, and 8 are from first tower, and (still) none are from 100cs.
  • The quickest round was Galio scoring first blood on Ziggs in a mere 3:18.
  • The longest round was Swain managing to knock down Wukong's tower in 19:44 (nearly time to surrender).
  • Bot farming continues to be abysmal, ranging from Brand's 5.08cpsm, to Wukong scoring just 1.42.
  • While no wins have been from 100cs yet, the 80cs barrier has been broken three times now; by Ezreal (93), Zyra (88), and Swain (80).
  • As you might be able to tell from some of the other stats, Swain VS Wukong was the biggest stomp of the day, with Swain dealing all 3500 tower damage and taking 80 minions, to Wukong only dealing 204 damage and taking 28 minions.
  • The best comeback was Cho'Gath managing to kill Brand whilst down 25 minions and 2419 tower damage.

With their MSI performance, GAM have earned a group stage spot for SEA at Worlds

Posted: 16 May 2017 05:30 AM PDT

As explained a few months ago, with the change in format for the World Championship, the best performing Wildcard region would win an extra seed at Worlds and an automatic group stage spot for their best team. With their great performance at MSI, not only did the Marines get a nice paycheck, but they also ensured that there will be at least one SEA team at the Main Event of this year's World Championship.

H2WHAT? Season 2, Episode 16: EU Mad, NA Jelly

Posted: 16 May 2017 02:01 PM PDT

TSM vs G2- was it the most important western match in recent history?

Posted: 16 May 2017 03:06 AM PDT

I've been thinking about the stipulations of this single match and how tense/important it was.

Here's a few facts about it...

If TSM won that match they would 100% be through to the next round, and have locked in the 3rd seed meaning they can avoid SKT in semis.

If G2 lost this match, they would have been knocked out surely with no chance of redemption or tie breakers.

But because G2 won they...

  1. Forced TSM to play FW, which TSM ended up losing and therefore being knocked out

  2. G2 instead took the 3rd slot, dodging SKT in semis

  3. Ultimately secured EU's rank 1 seed at worlds.

Other stipulations-

-G2 have arguably had the some of the weaker international showings of any rank 1 seeded team around the globe, being stuck in groups at MSI might have been the final straw and could have seen roster swaps as a result and may even lessen interest in the EU region.

-G2 have never played a best of 5 series at an international event, this will now enable them to do that.

-With EU getting rank 1 seed at worlds, this might make it easier for them to go far at worlds, but we won't know the full effect of this single game until worlds and to see if the seeding gives the rank 1 EU team an easier time.

Conclusion as a result of this single game-

G2 now has secured their 3rd spot at MSI, and the rank 1 pool EU seed at worlds as a result of this single game vs TSM, ended up knocking out TSM, escaped the verge of total disappointment of Europe and themselves and have another chance at redemption by allowing themselves to play a best of 5 Series at an international event. When you add the fact that they are regional rivals, this adds on to the scale of it, making it possible the most important EU vs NA match ever.
