Interesting changes in 7.06, possible impact on meta?

Posted: 15 May 2017 07:08 AM PDT

7.06 was just released this morning and brought some interesting changes. The one i like probably the most is the change to how denies work, you now recieve 30% of the xp for the deny and the enemy now gets 70% instead of 50%. Also nice to see all the respawn talents being removed, they were of ridiculous. Also a lot of item changes that seem like a quality of life thing, less recipes, like now you have mango for soul ring instead of recipe, definitely will be nice to not waste that slot early on. Oh and neutrals are back to 1 min spawns, but give less xp and gold.

can someone please explain the new deny mechanics to me?

Posted: 15 May 2017 03:25 PM PDT

I guess I am just dumb or something, but I am not understanding what the numbers mean:

*Creep denies now grant the denying team 30% of the XP bounty *Normal deny XP increased from 50% to 70%

So, I deny a creep that my opponent was in range for. I get 30% xp from the deny (don't know what if any it was before btw). Does the enemy (who was in range) get 70%? It seems to add up to 100%, but I am thinking that I read it wrong because everyone is saying that it benefits the hard carry over the offlaner now.

Thanks for any help!

PSA: Desolator, Skadi, Maelstrom, Diffusal, and Satanic are now fully stackable

Posted: 15 May 2017 07:21 AM PDT

6.83: Diffusal is no longer a Unique Attack Modifier.

7.00: Maelstrom is no longer a unique attack modifier.

7.00: Skadi is no longer a unique attack modifier.

7.06: Desolator is no longer a unique attack modifier.

Due to changes to these items, they will no longer nullify each other's effects. The only one which is still an orb effect is satanic, and orb effects only nullify each other if there are two or more present (e.g. you still cannot use satanic with certain heroes who have orb-effect attacks like OD).

You may theorize which heroes benefit from this; the two which come to mind immediately are phantom assassin with desolator+satanic and weaver with some combination of desolator-skadi-maelstrom-diffusal-satanic.

Stats Don't Lie*: 7.06 Patch Analysis

Posted: 15 May 2017 03:18 PM PDT

Is aghs on OD decent now.

Posted: 15 May 2017 10:01 AM PDT

I know it sounds stupid...but potentially turning a 5v5 to a 5v3 for 4 seconds is pretty crazy. Or even any other numbers fight, pre-bkb taking away two heroes from a fight seems huge. Or even later, taking a single hero out for 8 seconds is huge. especially with the recharge timer you can potentially take someone out for 12 our of 16 seconds.

Laning vs Bristleback?

Posted: 15 May 2017 07:29 PM PDT

Example game: https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3182653886

I was lifestealer, we started out with a trilane Pugna/WW/LS bottom vs Bristleback and zoned him out quite heavily for 4 minutes or so until Pugna left as my xp was suffering, and afterwards despite me having about 20 or so denies on the Bristle, he proceeded to slightly bully me out of lane (and at one point kill me due to misplay between me and Wyvern).

Every time I would try to last hit, even after manipulating creep aggro (and while I first came up TO draw aggro) I'd get quilled, and after 3 or so he starts taking away a lot of hp that can't be regained even with stick. Trying to go onto him didn't really kill him in our trilane as our supports are not super high kill potential, and while it zoned him out it led to a ton of damage onto us from his passive.

After Pugna left and he was level 6 while I was still 4 or so, he basically just zoned me pretty well with quill. If BH had sat in lane more it would've been unbearable. I would've rotated out to jungle, but I couldn't push the wave to do so and I certainly wasn't going to give him a free lane/tower so I had to stick around.

I even consider Lifestealer a pretty decent matchup to go up against him as. Anyways, any tips on dealing with him specifically as a melee hero or is this just a bad matchup and ranged is better or something?

Rod of Atos in 7.06: new heroes, new strats

Posted: 15 May 2017 07:24 PM PDT

Ok so I figured this breakout thread about the new Rod of Atos would be justified because the 7.06 threads are getting spammy and less specific.

I don't think that commentators or the community have given RoA its due analysis yet. It looks like much more of a strength hero / pos 2-3 item now and less of a support item.

I even tried it with Chaos Knight and it was pretty good. At least as good as Drums currently is. Maybe that isn't saying a lot. It basically gives you three "stuns" to chain together and that makes early ganks on weak supports really easy. Bracer was always such a good value item for heroes that went Drums, so an item that requires you to buy two of them is hot stuff in my book.

I'm also intending to try it on Beastmaster, Sven, Centaur, and other ganking strength cores. Basically, the idea is that you can chain stun by yourself via this rework. (I.e.: a great pubbing item.) If you have experience with one of these heroes in the new patch, please post about it here.

Is it core for any of these guys? Is it situational only? Should it remain as a support only item? Maybe be used on tanky 4th pos heroes? I could even see this being used on Earth Spirit the way it is now.

Has anyone tried Deso Drow yet?

Posted: 15 May 2017 02:49 PM PDT

I have a final tomorrow and I can't play today but I can't stop thinking about trying out a Clinkz-esque tower raping build on Drow Ranger. Has anyone tried it? How was it?

Update: fuck my final just tried a game of Deso Drow (party mmr ~4.3k) and the damage is fucking INSANE.

Gem/ wards advice

Posted: 15 May 2017 11:52 AM PDT

When should the decision to purchase a gem be made?

As a support, if the enemy has 2 or more invis heroes and that the game seems hopeless, I will only then buy it as my final attempt to turn things around.

This is my mindset: As with most games, the likelihood of your team over-committing and losing that gem is present. If the enemy does get their hands on the gem, you risk losing vision of the map provided assuming the map is well warded. This is especially stressful if you are a solo support that had already spent majority of his gold on obs/ sentry.

Many slark allies in my ranked games fail to realise that the passive component of its ultimate allows for detection of wards and help to get rid of unnecessary sentries planted to remove enemy's observer wards.

Therefore, I seek advice on the scenarios at which a gem should be purchase (e.g. when you are snowballing and want to apply more pressure).

Regarding wards, Lets say an enemy sentry ward is planted at a possible warding zone and you see it there after planting your own sentry ward, should the enemy's sentry ward be left undestroyed? If you destroy it, enemies might be able to locate your position if they notice.

Thank you in advance for the advice.

Safelane efficiency

Posted: 15 May 2017 05:07 PM PDT

Hey all,

today I saw that I played one match as AM where I thought I would have pretty good cs at 10 min but when I checked Opendota, I only had 64cs at 10 mins. What efficiency tricks do you with am when playing safelane? I tried to finish every sec wave fast so I could pull every Minute since camps are respawning faster again. I got my bf at 14 min with power treads be4 bf cause I always like the cheap stats from pt. I think they help with finishing the bf faster then the other way around. What are your tips for me, item wise, skill wise and other pulling or efficiency tricks to get the bf as fast as possible.

Need help on improvement. Been on a losing streak..

Posted: 15 May 2017 05:03 PM PDT

Hello.

I'm a 1.3k MMR player from SEA (Pinoy). I first calibrated at around 2.1k, then dropped down to 1.5k. I have been in the trench ever since and have not climbed back out yet.

I know I have a lot to work on. I started playing Dota2 in 2014, but I only played like once a week or up to once a month, before completely stopping for a year during the latter half of 2015. I played again during my Medical Clerkship late 2016. It was when I calibrated. Still only played once or twice a week.

Only recently since I graduated did I start playing almost everyday with 3-5 matches per day. I guess practice really is what I need, but maybe there are some other mechanical parameters that I need to work on (LH/DN, GPM, etc..)

I also only have a limited pool of heroes. Whenever I want to try new heroes I fuck up horribly and end up feeding. Case in point, OD and Lion.

I usually try to play initiator, 2nd carry, and I only recently started playing support which I found out to have given me wins. I had games where I am a carry trying to support because our team decided to be typical 1K+ MMR players by choosing all carries no support (and I was 2nd pick CK/WK, case in point).

Here's my OpenDotA: https://www.opendota.com/players/118481323/overview

It's terrible, and I actually wish to start over, but if there's anything to work on, I'm willing to do so before I become busy with Post Grad Internship and Boards.

Thank you.

Tl;Dr Noob here wishing to improve

EDIT: Pinoy here. But I'm not your typical Peenoise who flames or gets mad or throws games intentionally. I never flame, and I praise good teamwork and efforts of both teams.

I also find it pointless to say "GG EZ GAME" at the end of a match where I did something significant/carry hard. I think my wordcloud says it all. Behavior score is around 7000+.

Changes to Rod of Atos - Can someone give me the low down ?

Posted: 15 May 2017 12:31 PM PDT

I love Skywrath Mage. I love playing skywrath mage mid. Hell I love this heartbroken glass canon so much, and his synergy with Rod of Atos (since the amazing root mechanics changes), I rush Atos on him, whilst running him mid. Literally, I only buywindlace, bottle, and then straight to Rod of Atos (I know its not optimal but its too much fun)

The +30 intelligence on him was insane for his butterfly bolts from heaven.

Now Rod of Atos has been changed.

Will someone please explain how does this affect Skywrath Mage ?

How does it affect other heroes that like to build this item (OD) ?

What other heroes can start looking into this item with the new recipe changes ?

Jungling viable now?

Posted: 15 May 2017 04:07 PM PDT

Regeneration coming from strength increased from 0.03 HP per point of Strength to 0.06. If you have 20 strength, instead of getting a regen of 0.6, you get a regen of 1.2. That's huge. Jungling became more viable now!

Should I buy my carry a tp

Posted: 15 May 2017 04:03 PM PDT

My friend always spends all his money just before he dies, and then gets me, the pos 5 support, to drop him a tp. Should he be doing this when I've already got keeping up with warding on my plate? Should he not just buy a tp before he dies?

Are macros allowed in dota?

Posted: 15 May 2017 04:01 PM PDT

Like tinker or meepo macro. There was a guy on my team who was clearly using tinker macro(he rocket, laser, ethereal, dagon in less than 1 second) when I asked about it, he said it's allowed as its not a hack.

Noob here, when to jump into PUGs

Posted: 15 May 2017 11:55 AM PDT

Hi,

I have been picking up dota 2 and absolutely loving it. I am coming from LoL/Starcraft and wont be going back to LoL since I find dota 2 far more immense and rewarding.

I have been taking my time and playing a ton against bots to get familiar with a bunch of champs and trying different roles out and just enjoying the discovery stage. I have about 45 hours now in dota 2.

I want to start playing normals but I also want to make sure I up to speed enough that I am not bombing and ruining it for everyone else.

my main concern is I don't really have a grasp on pulling creeps or when or why to do it.

Any tips or quick basic lists of things to make sure I understand before playing some normals?

Thanks!

Solar Crest now gives 25% truestrike?

Posted: 15 May 2017 08:35 AM PDT

"Solar Crest on enemies changed from 25% Miss chance on target to 25% Truestrike chance on attackers."

I'm not sure I understand this change, isn't truestrike a mechanic where you cannot miss? So you have 25% of not missing??

How to counter roaming sb?

Posted: 15 May 2017 01:52 PM PDT

I don't know what I can do to shut down a roaming sb. Most of the time when he charges me it's from out of vision so I can't react fast enough once I realize he's after me and even when I'm under tower I get dived by him and the other people in lane. How do I not die to him?
