Updated my nvidia drivers to 382.05 and tabbing in seems to take longer than before, anyone else notice this?

Posted: 23 May 2017 05:56 AM PDT

tabbing in and out of my game used to be almost instantaneous, but now it can be up to ~3 seconds

This video describes the development process of games with all it's hardships, I think a lot of what this guys says applies to DayZ's development as well

My first session after years

Posted: 22 May 2017 06:01 PM PDT

After playing for the last time, around version .3x, I finally installed it again today to see how it fares after all that time.

DAY 1

I spawned in the woods. It was dark. Stars were lighting up the landscape, so I could discern a road nearby. After a short hike, a building came into the view. And then another, and a few more followed. A roadsign said I was in Msta.

The whole town was devoid of any significant loot, aside from some empty guns. I had no way to defend myself other than with my bare fists, and that realization came when I heard one of those things breathe so very close to me. My heart rate exploded in an instant. There were two of them, they spotted me and gave in to the chase. All I could do was run. "Maybe I'll lose them in the woods" - I thought. But no, they were persistent. I couldn't lose them. So I ran.

I had to find something in this darkness or I'm dead. As fate would have it, a glimpse of a building is what gave me hope. I ran into the closest one and immediately my eyes fixated on a shovel. In an instant I picked it up, went out through the other door and stood ready to fight. In two or three hits the drooling freaks were put down. I continued hitting them repeatedly, knowing they were already dead.

My heart was racing, my arms trembling. In all that fray, I failed to notice that I was bleeding, and heavily by the looks of it. Went inside the house, made rags of some shirts and bandaged myself. After taking a rest and having some water from the well, I noticed a sign that said Staroye. There were no infected, or I wasn't seeing them yet, so I took refuge in a house next to the well and called it a night. I had to calm down.

I passed the test, I survived the first attack, and it was fucking AWESOME! Yep, this is DayZ I remember. I'll certainly play it tomorrow night, I'm very interested in how it grew. This short session is gonna give me nightmares tonight.

EDIT #1: DAY Z

Nightmares. They're so vivid, you can almost feel that you're being eaten alive by those… things. I was pulled from it violently, waking up by a bed in the house I found last night. Even though I knew it was only a dream, I had to check if my belly was all there, just in case.

It was raining, pouring. In my sleep, I haven't even heard the thunders. When you're being eaten alive, nothing else can draw your attention away from it. You just accept the fact, even if it seems unjust that your innocent life is so brutalized in a matter of seconds, and those who deserve such fate would never get to face it.

The rain showed no signs of stopping, and it's incessantly ominous beating upon the metal sheet roof wouldn't let me escape the nightmare I just had, but to wallow in the misery of it, to imagine how it really must feel like to be devoured alive, to the smallest of details.

I got up. The beating of the rain would mask any threatening sound, and I had to rely on my sight. I've checked every window for potential infected, there were none. Of course, I wasn't fully convinced that was the case. Which then got me an idea. The rain masking the sounds – that's two-way, right?

I immediately went on ransacking the place, trying to find anything that might help me. A bag of ruined rice. A pair of trousers. A child's schoolbag. A worn raincoat! Lucky.

So I went on from house to house. A logging axe took place of the (now badly damaged) shovel I used to defend myself last night. I found some canned food too, but wouldn't risk spilling it with an axe as an opener. The house I stayed in had a working well in it's backyard. It's after I noticed it that I realized just how thirsty I was. I filled myself with it, as the rain was pouring all over me. And then…

"Please help me. Please! " – I heard a voice of a young lad behind me, and in it I recognized a terrified individual. I turned away from the well.

The guy was just standing there, in a white T-shirt and green trousers, soaked to the bones, looking at me with those deep blue, horrified eyes. He was bleeding, and heavily. He then knelt in front of me and made it clear his strength dwindled. Without uttering a single word, I began searching my new bag for a cloth, anything to stop the bleeding and help this poor soul. It is then when I heard them.

"They're coming, hurry up!" – He was desperate.

Then, from behind the house, five or six infected appeared, charging at us. They were mere meters away. The guy couldn't stand up, he was exhausted. I knew then I couldn't possibly help him without sealing my fate.

"I'm sorry" were the only words I've spoken to him before turning around, vaulting over a short fence, and starting running, not looking back. The last thing I heard were his last pleas for help - the loud rainfall couldn't cover that.

And so I ran. I wanted to get as far away from Staroye. The road then forked to the left and right. The nearby sign pointing right read "Shakhovka". I took it with no thought, but the thoughts of what I did moments ago were now eating me alive. If only I could snap out of this nightmare…

Any idea for a server theme/event.

Posted: 22 May 2017 08:09 PM PDT

instead of meeting players for PVE or PVP, how about a load of players agreeing to meeting a certain location then doing a 6 hour over night camp out, basically players 5-6 of them having a camp site, cooking chicken and eating wolf, up in the mountains maybe with a few tents, chatting, then maybe someone could tip off some "genuine" bandits a rough idea of what time what server and a few clues of where they are camping, it would be a one hell of game I think.

I remember hearing a conversation a while back about mod support, and various maps being implemented into the game..? Was just wondering if there was any newer news on the subject of a different map?

Where is everyone?

Posted: 22 May 2017 03:23 PM PDT

So Ive been playing on different servers and even though Ive been checking many 60/60 servers and went to spots like NWAF/Elektro/Cherno/Berezino I rarely find other players. Is it just bad luck or are there "places to be" I know the map is huge even for 60 player but still... is everyone camping at tisy? Ive heared some talk about stary. There was a thread about this but the answers didnt satisfy me. Bambiland sucks because you always get ganked when reaching a tent. I dont want to play it like COD but some true non-modded PVP would be sweet.

Thanks for infos (Btw I know I start many threads these days but as long the questions are reasonable, noone should get mad)
