Don't worry, just click on each one to see their relationships with each other and rest easy knowing that they all hate each other just as much as they hate you.

(Civ V) This game does not want me to get a cultural victory

Posted: 02 May 2017 05:47 PM PDT

I got the Civ V bundle in the last Xmas Steam sale. Love the game, glad I didn't get it sooner because my dissertation barely got finished. I started on Warlord difficulty and worked my way up with each new game. I won every game I played (mostly time victories, couple Diplomatic victories in there) up until I got to Emperor. (Won my second Emperor game, Science Victory Korea after a crazy defence against Indonesia and that mouth-breather Washington) .

"I only have to win a cultural victory, then that's every victory type achievement. Nice." I knew Polynesia got their Moai culture bonus so I decided to give myself every advantage and play Polynesia on an Archipelago map. Long story short, despite theming the fuck out of every Wonder I could grab, Rome got a Science victory with me 9 turns away from being totally influential over everyone.

"Fair enough", I thought, "But I suppose that's Emperor for you". For my next game I play France and go with King difficulty. Again, long story short, every hidden antiquity site, musicians guild in the Atomic era performing concert tours. Lose a Time victory to Morocco. Fuck me, maybe disable that condition for the next game you pillock?

Current game, Brazil, again on King. Get a good start, Capital has lots of sugar, grassland and hills. 2nd city has 11 Jungle for the culture, 3rd city has a mountain and lots of hills/grassland, 4th has copper, spices, hills, jungle etc. "Holy shit this start is awesome, surely I'm gonna win off this?"

Game promptly spits in my mouth and laughs at my cosy little corner of Pangeae, as it decides to place Rome and the Huns right next to me. Huns (after taking 3 Polish cities) decide being friendly with me isn't actually to their taste and DOW, taking city 2. I somehow claw it back and hold onto it until they get bored and accept peace. 80 turns later, Rome decides being friendly is a pain too and DOW, taking city 3. It changes hands between us several times, so that when I eventually get it back, it has one population and an ampitheatre. That's it. This has bumped Rome up to my 2nd least favourite Civ, behind America.

At this point, I've spent so long researching military tech and producing units that I don't know if I have time to get influential before that bastard Caesar churns out the Spaceship using his AI cheats. Or maybe the Huns will decide to come back and finish the job this time with their military 10x the strength of mine (like, where the fuck do they get the resources for this? Do they just not build buildings?).

Honestly, it's like I'm a kid in a sandpit trying to peacefully make a little sand art, when the sweaty fat kids come over and kick it, then bring their cat over to shit on it for good measure.

Sorry for the long post, had to rant a bit. Thanks if you read this far.

great library should be available with the tech writing (civ6)

Posted: 02 May 2017 11:38 AM PDT

right now, you unlock great library with a civic(!) which also comes very late. I think the boost the great library gives needs a rework or it should be available much earlier. how did firaxis made this wonder from very good (civ 5) to very bad (civ 6?)

[CIV VI] Is there a mod for quotes?

Posted: 02 May 2017 06:14 PM PDT

The quotes are bad, and boring, and repetitive, is there a mod out there that enhances quotes?

Ways for balancing tall vs wide? (wtf happend from civ 5?)

Posted: 02 May 2017 05:41 PM PDT

This started as just a random thought in my head and now its a full up civil war up in here. What was it about civ 5 that made wide so situational and what happened to make wide so mathematically more powerful in civ 6? (id love some statistical and deep answers if you've got the time)

[Civ6] Venice Concept

Posted: 02 May 2017 03:10 PM PDT

Venice was by far my favorite civ back in 5, so for a long time I've been trying to figure out how it could work in 6's focus on wide gameplay. I think I've managed to work out a Venice that is balanced with the other civs while maintaining its one-city theme:

Venice

  • UA: Serenissima: Can't build or buy settlers. Gains triple adjacency bonuses and a bonus trade route from all districts. Non-gold yields from trade routes are doubled, and trade routes to and from Venice grant 2 food to Venice (4 due to doubling).

  • UU: Merchant of Venice: Upgraded form of Great Merchants. In addition to the standard retirement benefits, the Merchant of Venice also grants 2 envoys.

  • UB: Canal System: Additional City-Center building. Once completed, allows naval units to pass through your districts and creates rivers around your districts. +2 Culture.

Leader: Enrico Dandolo

  • Ability: Crusade Mastermind: When declaring joint wars, gants the other civ +5 combat strength throughout the duration of Venice's involvement in the war. Conquered cities are turned into generic mercantile city-states if kept and Venice immediately gains 3 envoys with them.

  • Agenda: Downfall of Constantinople: Will never declare wars by himself, but pursues joint wars with friendly powers. Likes civilizations with less trader units than Venice. Dislikes civilizations with more trader units than Venice, unless they have the highest overall military strength.

So what do you all think? Too overpowered? Too underpowered? Somehow balanced?

EDIT: Formatting Problem

EDIT2: Updated to address some criticisms from comments. How is it now?

EDIT3: The Dream is Dead :(

[CIV5] Is there any mod that makes AI more unpredictable?

Posted: 02 May 2017 03:19 PM PDT

I think that the AIs in Civ 5 BNW is too static for my taste. The wars are rare and most of them last too short. I would like to play a dynamic campaign with epic wars where AIs take massive amount of cities from other AIs. To make WWII or Napoleonic wars scenario possible. I tried Artificial Unintelligence but it doesn't change much. Are there any other mods?

I've been waiting to play Civilization VI since the game was announced. I was going to wait until all the DLC released and a GOTY version released like what Civilization V did. Do you think it's worth taking the plunge now or should I wait longer?

Civilization VI America theme piano tutorial

Posted: 02 May 2017 10:29 AM PDT

I am a big fan of the Civilization soundtrack and like to make arrangements and transcribe the music. I can also send sheet music when requested. I plan to transcribe more in the future from this soundtrack. Here is an arrangement of the America theme, I may make a more complex version eventually, this is quite easy to play

[CIV4] Is there any way to create a map in WorldBuilder that can then be used for any scenario, at any time?

Posted: 02 May 2017 05:32 PM PDT

I've been working on a very large battle royale style map that I think would be fun to play around with for various scenarios, but I'm running into trouble when I test it because the game will only let me play it using the original parameters (the nine original civs that were there when I started the map). I was wondering if there was any way in-game, through mods, or via messing around with with the raw files that I could free myself up a bit more to play how I want. Any help would be appreciated!

Civ5 GPT glitch

I'm playing a regualr civ 5 game, and between turns one of the other civs, Gandhi, jumps from <10 GPT to over >3000 GPT. Does anyone have any insight as to why this is happening?
