New Moderators - Welcome!

Posted: 05 Apr 2017 10:39 AM PDT

Welcome to /u/flapsnapple and /u/gumdropseu as our two newest moderators.

We've also pruned the moderator list of a couple of moderators who have been less active in the last year or so. Thanks to all of them for the work that they've put in!

We're currently asking for feedback about rules in /r/wowmeta (you may have seen a mod post about this) and we will also be asking people to apply as moderators in the near future.

If you are running a normal mythic dungeon with no keystones invite low ILVL players.

Posted: 05 Apr 2017 07:52 AM PDT

When ever I run a plan mythic dungeon I make sure I bring at least 2 low ILVL players. Most of the time they are new to mythics and are scared to run it and need gear. We were all that player at one point and a friendly dungeon group can lock in their love for wow. Complaining about their dps or ILVL will just scare more people away from mythic+ and raiding. But just a friendly hey we will take this 810 over the 900 ILVL cause one needs gear from the actual mythic and probably wont get accepted in another group goes a long way for the community. I know now days everything has to be done fast but sometimes if you go slow you will make new friends and another players day.

-Thank you for your time Your friendly neighborhood Prot Pally.

Isn`t a game in general meant to be played during your "free" time !?

Posted: 05 Apr 2017 09:23 AM PDT

Since I remember games are meant as something to spend you free time with.

I schedule my day around work / girlfriend / friends / family and some other "important" stuff, like visit dentist and so on.

The rest of the time, is my "free" time and I like to play some games during this time.

During classic / bc and wotlk I was a student and I scheduled my day around school / university, friends and WoW Raids and stuff. I had enough time to schedule my day around a game.

Then I got a girlfriend and job, and then a child. So I couldnt schedule my day around WoW anymore, which was okay.

I stopped playing during cataclysm.

With legion I started again, because I realized the game got "casual friendly". With LFR, mythics + and world quests there was finally some enjoyable content for casual solo players who are not able to schedule their life around a game.

And now Blizzards brings the legion assaults (a really important content for 7.2 because of nethershards / flying and in genereal "interesting stuff to do") which only last 6 hours a day !?

Then there is the system with the buildings only being up three days before they need to be rebuild for a few days.

So there is more and more content locked to specific times, making it necessary to schedule my day around the game, what was the reason I stopped playing during cata.

If this is the direction the game is going (again), I sadly have to stop playing again :/

I only play 2-3 days a week and then mostly late evening from 21 to 0/1 o clock, but I have fun and I like the progress I make as casual (ilvl 885 is pretty cool seen the small time I play).

Please Blizzard, let me decide when I want to play content XY and dont limit it to specific times -.-

EDIT:

To make something clear, I dont want flying as fast as hardcore players get it or whatever. And I am fine that you hardcore guys will always have a higher item level than me and I am fine with you having 10 legendaries, while I am sitting here with 2, thats cool.

But as a poster here said, legion had one selling point "Play what you want, when you want". Thats the point. I want to decide "when" to play. I will still need alot of weeks or months to get enough reputation and to even finish pathfinder one. But I want to decide by myself when I play.

Legendaries

Talents

3323213

First Frost Phase

  • Prepot prolonged power right when the mists from the RP explosion he does disappears.
  • Interrupt the first Frostbolt and drag him to the center of the room as best you can. Sometimes he gets stuck standing there thinking what to do, don't worry about it.
  • Chaos Nova during his next Frostbolt. He will teleport and Razor Ice you after this stun fades. Fel Eruption him during that Chaos Nova stun because you want the damage but you don't want him to be on diminishing returns the next time you Chaos Nova him.
  • Razor Ice + Teleport happens so now you need to Eye Beams and Blade Dance to break all of the ice. You need to kill this ice because you rely on the souls to recharge eye beams to have a nice clean safe health pool through frost phase.
  • As soon as you're out, Fel Rush only once and interrupt him. Drag him back to the center.
  • When your demon form from the Demonic talent wears out, use eye beams again and face the Razor Ice so it gets hit by it as well as Xylem. Now you're back in demon form and should be able to heal through the remainder of this just fine.
  • When the razor ice disappears walk through the beams or double jump over them to collect your souls. Chaos Nova and Eye Beams are both off cooldown as a result.
  • When this second demon form from eye beams wears off, the next Frostbolt Xylem casts will usually be the last one before he wants to teleport. Chaos Nova him either at the end of your demon form buff or right as it goes away. After this stun wears off, he will teleport.
  • This phase should repeat exactly this way for three teleports. The fourth teleport will initiate the Darkness phase. After the third teleport you will only get to use eye beams once which will be used to break out of the Razor Ice. Do not use it a second time after the third teleport.
  • After the third teleport do not Fel Rush more than once. You're going to want both Fel Rushes to get through Darkness cleanly.
  • After the third teleport a timer will begin until Darkness is cast, this is true in both Frost and Arcane phases. He will interrupt whatever he is doing and even while he is stunned or imprisoned to teleport into the Darkness phase. I found that this is usually about 12 seconds after the third teleport give or take.
  • Try to Imprison him during the end of his fourth Frostbolt. This will buy you 5 seconds to walk to the center of the stage and be in the best possible spot to reach him during Darkness. Do not cross and lines while you wait for Darkness to begin. If you jump over a line he may just teleport where he already is and it's just harder to find him.

Darkness Phase

  • Find him shimmering in the dark and stand on top of him to end this phase.
  • Do not be afraid to use Meta during Darkness phases to get to him! The void phase is long enough that you can hold off on using Meta til almost the very end and still have a successful run.
  • Try to practice always using Vengeful Retreat first, it covers the most distance and is the hardest to use when you hone in on his position.
  • Fel Eruption is a very good way of breaking the adds almost instantly in a pinch if you need to. Also try to remember that you can interrupt them both to prevent you from being knocked out and to give you fury back to finish them off.
  • Being at the center of the room as soon as Darkness starts is the key to getting through this phase consistently. The key to getting to the center of the room is imprisoning him ~12 seconds after his second teleport in the arcane phase and after his third razor ice in the frost phase. After his last teleport in either phase a roughly 12 second timer will start, when that expires he will interrupt whatever he is doing and start Darkness. Remember this and practice this and Darkness phase will become much, much easier.

Arcane Phase

  • Never interrupt him unless it is for Draw Power. It is 100% necessary that you follow this rule.
  • Begin by using Fury of the Illidari immediately followed by Eye Beams. Eye Beams should be off cooldown because you broke out of the Razor Ice in frost phase and collected those souls.
  • Do not interrupt him or stun him, let him cast this first Arcane Barrage and let Demon form heal through it. Immediately after this he will cast Shadow Barrage.
  • Dodge Shadow Barrage but do not try to DPS too hard during this. I lost a lot of attempts to getting greedy here so if a shadow barrage is next to the boss and you think you're fine, move away because another one could spawn and then launch at the same time as the other one. Play it as safe as you possible can during Shadow Barrage!
  • After Shadow Barrage he will likely do an Arcane Barrage. Do not interrupt this, do not stun him, wait til the end of the cast and Imprison him. Immediately after this Imprison walk to the center of the room and wait, do not cross any beams.
  • He will perform his first teleport while Imprisoned. Get to him and now during this phase you can stun him. Duration of stuns is not super important because they're just meant to disrupt his casting, which means you can use Fel Eruption first and Chaos Nova second. Usually on your way to him he will begin an arcane barrage that you can interrupt via Fel Eruption. If eye beams comes up during this teleport DO NOT USE IT! You will need it for the next teleport.
  • He will always teleport during this phase after some time, not some casts. The general rule is after 3 Arcane Barrages he will likely teleport during his 4th cast so imprison him then. The other rule is that if he casts Arcane Barrage x2 -> Shadow Barrage -> Arcane Barrage then he will likely teleport during that third Arcane Barrage. Therefore, imprison him during his third Arcane Barrage.
  • Practice feeling out when he is going to perform a teleport and when you think he'll do one head towards the middle but stay in range to Imprison. Either imprison him right at the end of his Arcane Barrage or listen for the sound he makes when he teleports as an indicator to Imprison. He can still be imprisoned for about half a second after that sound goes off, so it is very important to have a free GCD to land that Imprison.
  • If you master the imprisons, you will not need any Fel Rushes to get to him each time but if you want to use them, only ever use ONE. You're going to need both to make it through Darkness again.
  • The way you're going to handle his damage during Arcane Phase is first eye beams + demon, he will teleport, when you reach him you will use Chaos Nova and Fel Eruption. He will teleport again and when you reach him you will use eye beams to live through those Arcane Barrages. When that demon form ends, you will want to imprison him and wait for him to begin Darkness by running to the middle of the stage again.

Darkness Phase

  • Rinse and repeat what you did before, just remember being at the center of the ring is your only safe way to end this phase consistently.

Second Frost Phase

  • This is almost the same as the first frost phase but now he can cast Shadow Barrage and he teleports MUCH further away making it much harder to reach him.
  • Comet Storm is currently bugged and it seems the best way to avoid taking phantom damage from this is to be patient about leaving the Razor Ice.
  • Eye Beams and Blade Dance to destroy the Razor Ice. Do not double jump + fel rush after that immediately, instead leave the comet area and collect some soul shards to heal to full. I believe that touching the ground is what flags you as not in the comet area, so that also helps.
  • You will likely be badly beaten by the time you reach Xylem and have maybe 1 second of demon form remaining. Immediately Fel Eruption him for a nice big heal.
  • Hopefully he will begin casting Shadow Barrage after this Fel Eruption, if not then try to Chaos Nova his next Frostbolt to see if he will do it. The idea is to get him to cast Shadow Barrage so that you can interrupt his Frostbolt with Consume Magic to walk him back to the center of the stage. If you interrupt a Frostbolt and he casts Shadow Barrage, you may not be able to get him to the center of the stage.
  • He will only cast Razor Ice after a timer and while he is not interrupted, unlike in Arcane Phase where he would freely teleport (and by teleport I mean the one that does not initiate Darkness phase) while stunned, imprisoned, or interrupted. This means you can Imprison him at the end of a series of Frostbolts and be sure that when it ends he will teleport.
  • As with the first frost phase, he will do three Razor Ices and then instead of a fourth he will teleport and begin Darkness phase. The key once again is to make sure you are placed in the center of the stage so that you can reach him in hopefully two fel rushes (but still, vengeful retreat should be your first cast.)
  • Eye beams is only used to break out of the ice here, do not use it a second time after each Razor Ice.
  • Try to force him to cast Shadow Barrage by stunning and imprisoning him on the first two Razor Ices. You need to hold Imprison after the third Razor Ice so that you can imprison him before he begins Darkness phase so that you can safely stand in the middle and wait for that to begin.

Void Phase

  • When he drops to 10% he will begin the void phase, a giant voidwalker spawns and you have roughly 3 minutes to bring him down.
  • He will summon three adds after a channel on you and if they reach him he full heals. He will also drop a shadow on the ground periodically that will expand forever and more than likely wipe you. You have to kite him to keep this at bay.
  • Use another Prolonged Power potion right when the voidwalker spawns. If you will have meta up in the next minute, DO NOT WAIT UNTIL COMBAT IS ONE SECOND AWAY TO PREPOT!!!
  • Do not meta on pull.
  • Do not meta on pull.
  • Do not meta on pull.
  • Do not Chaos Nova the boss.
  • Do not interrupt the boss.
  • Do not use Fury of the Illidari on the boss.
  • Do not use Drums of War on pull.
  • The reason you want to prepot a prolonged power almost 10 seconds before the fight actually begins is because at around the 50 seconds into combat mark, you should have killed his three adds and gotten back to the boss. This means your potion will be off cooldown, he won't cast another for a nother full minute, and you'll have meta, drums, and a potion of the old war all ready to rip into this guy. This is when you lay down the law and really DPS to the max. Don't miss any blade dances, don't miss any Fel Eruptions (but be careful because you don't want to fel eruption as soon as he starts the voidlings, if you fel eruption as soon as you start your drums and then immediately after the cooldown on fel eruption is over then it should be safe.) I have wiped to him at 200k HP, it does not feel good.
  • When he starts casting on you, do not panic and interrupt this. Keep hitting him until the debuff has 3-4 seconds left and run away. Go further than you think you need, it's better to be safe here and because you can Fel Rush to get back to him you probably won't lose much space.
  • Start on the voidlings with a Chaos Nova, then use Fury of the Illidari, then use Eye Beams, then use Throw Glaive, then use Blade Dance, Chaos Strike, Chaos Strike, Throw Glaive, Blade Dance, hopefully they're dead. If not don't worry, that's the start of the dps rotation on them, they might require a few more blade dances, it doesn't mean your DPS is too low if they're not dead exactly then.
  • As soon as the first voidlings die and you get back to the boss make sure he is out of the darkness before you meta him (because you don't want to stun him in that) and use everything. Drums, old war, make sure your augment runes on and give it everything you've got.
  • I've found that if you just try to walk straight back with him you can get out of melee range, so try to almost zig zag as you walk back with him by strafing and walking back with him.
  • He's unlikely to be flush with the side of the stage, and because the darkness spreading out is a circle the edge usually has some space leftover for you to use. Here is an MSPaint example of what I mean
  • Don't get too panicked and try not to look at his health bar when you're back up into your final corner. Know that you should experience 3 voidling spawns in total.
  • I had about 10 yards of open space when he was at about 20% health, it may seem like you've lost but do not give up! Remember to use blur right at the end too, every second counts!

Here's my screenshot from my kill, as you can see I only barely managed 650k DPS which isn't too too high if you ask me.

If there are any questions about anything in specific post away and I'll try my best to help!

The Legion Invasions either need to be back to back or last all day.

Posted: 05 Apr 2017 02:11 PM PDT

I just got home from work, saw there was 13 minutes left on the Val'shara Invasion and rushed to try and do it. I was literally in queue for the scenario and it just booted me out of queue because the invasion ended. Is this really considered good design? Do we really have to wait an entire day for a new invasion just to go through the same thing because some of us don't play 24/7? Come on blizz, you can do better than this.

Blizz needs to make a Horde/Alliance co-op raid

Posted: 05 Apr 2017 10:09 AM PDT

Given all the plot generated over the years of the Horde and Alliance having to work together to take on an external threat, I think it would be both awesome and thematic to have a raid where both teams worked together. We're already gaining NPC help from other factions. A certain Draenai priest and human mage helps Horde players fight the Legion, a certain blood elf demon hunter helps Alliance players. So why can't we have a Draenai priest PC healing our horde raid?

I know that Blizz already has the ability to allow cross-factionism in PvP. There's some guy that you can talk to that lets you queue battlegrounds as the opposite faction. Why not take that and make it apply to a phased zone? Talk to an NPC and they give you the options "I want to help the Horde/I want to help the Alliance" and whichever you choose, you count as that faction for the purpose of being able to group until you leave the zone.

I just want to be friends with all of my brothers in arms. No more segregation, Blizzard! Let the races raid together!

878 Ilvl Assassination Rogue Mage Tower Challenge Completed

Posted: 05 Apr 2017 01:27 PM PDT

Hi guys, first time posting here so go easy on me!

I have seen a lot of discussion regarding the mage tower challenges. they are tough! I just completed mine a few hours ago and I must admit that I am extremely proud and was actually shaking after I did it. I am posting because I want to show people that it is doable even without 900+ Ilevel. Yes I probably have the best legendaries I could for the fight, but I am far from optimal. Below is a link to my armory:

http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/sisters-of-elune/Faringray/simple

I am posting to offer encouragement and help answer questions on the fight! For buffs I used food, potion of prolonged power, agi flask, and a defiled rune.

I will be leaving to work soon, but should be back in a few hours to answers questions! See you all soon!

If you're using default nameplates, make sure you have this option checked to make your life with the "Exploding" affix a lot easier.
