[Spoilers] An Analytical look into BotW's Shrines Posted: 01 Apr 2017 07:11 PM PDT Okay, today we're looking at a Shrine Analysis (purely from a statistical standpoint). No need for preamble, off we go! Shrine TypesPuzzle Shrines: 70 / 58.3% Blessing Shrines: 29 / 24.2% Combat Shrines: 21 / 17.5% Unsurprisingly, the majority of Shrines are puzzle based with over half being dedicated Puzzle Shrines. If you want to consider Blessing Shrines as puzzles too (considering they are essentially "overworld puzzles"; the challenge being to reach or reveal them), then that means that a whopping 82.5% of the shrines are puzzle based while (roughly) 1 in 6 are combat dedicated. A Look at Combat ShrinesA Major Test of Strength 8 / 38.1% A Modest Test of Strength 6 / 28.6% A Minor Test of Strength: 6 / 28.6% Teaching Combat 1 / 4.7% Looks like Nintendo is more interested in laying you down than helping you up; the majority of Combat Shrines are the toughest variety while only 1 (out of 21) is dedicated to taking it easy and showing you the ropes. Combat (in) ShrinesShrines with no Enemies: 86 / 71.7% Combat Shrines: 21 / 17.5% Puzzle Shrines with Enemies: 13 / 10.8% A combined total of 34 Shrines have Guardians (of one form or another) stalking about, meaning you have (roughly) a 1 in 4 chance of meeting something that wants to kill you when you head down there. However, only 13 of 70 puzzle shrines have enemies in them, a measly 18.6%. So you're safe in most puzzle shrines; there's only a 1 in 5 chance you aren't alone. Top Combat Shrine Regions
Honorable Mentions: Akalla and Hebra have 3 dedicated combat Test of Strength shrines each and Hebra even has enemies lurking in two puzzle shrines; however, in comparison to their overall Shrine Count, Akkala sits at 38%(3 out of 8) while Hebra sits at 28% (5 out of 13). Not safe, but at least Link has better than coin flip odds of encountering something while he heads down. Top Peaceful Shrine Regions
Honorable Mention: Oddly, the Wasteland has the most peaceful shrines (69% (9 out of 13)) and no dedicated Tests of Strength. Although that's probably because this region has the MOST Blessing Shrines on the map, with a total 46% (6 out 13) Shrines being just a dude waiting in the dark for you, with a treasure chest and probably sitting cramps. Arena TypesPillars: 14 out of 21/ 66.7% Water: 3 out of 21 / 14.3% Metal: 3 out of 21 / 14.3% Other: 1 out of 21 / 4.7% Fighting in a room of breakable pillars seems like the way to go for most shrines, certainly all the Minor and Modest Tests of Strength anyway that use it exclusively. You'll find Cryonis-able water and Magnesis-able metal blocks only in Major Tests of Strength (only 2 out of 8 Major Strength shrines have pillars in the arena). And, of course, the last one is our lovely, psychopathic friend Ta'loh, teaching you the ropes in a custom arena free of any obstacles (read: protections). At least he leaves more than one chest unlike the other stingy fight-fetishers. Mechanics of Puzzle ShrinesNote: it's hard to filter down a type of shrine since most can be beaten in a variety of ways; so, rather, these are elements/mechanics that appear in each shrine that play an important role in beating that shrine. Also note: some shrines can have multiple elements/mechanics so all numbers are simply a ratio of the total of the 70 Puzzle Shrines
Interesting to note that Get-the-Orb-in-the-key-Slot makes up for almost 1/3rd of all shrine puzzles. Nintendo is quite proud of their physics engine, I see. And proud of their water mechanics as well with 23% of all puzzling Shrines incorporating water in one form or another. Wish there were more than 6 motion control puzzles, though, since the ones there are so memorable. (I should add I only thought, too late, to collect stats on how many Shrines require Small Keys. Would have been an interesting statistic but redoing all the shrines just to find this out is beyond me (plus not to many reliable guides online that point this out). If anyone's got a number, please let me know!) Most Eclectic Shrines
Least Eclectic Shrines
Shrine RewardsWeapons: 67 / 55.8% Ore: 30 / 25% Cores: 20 / 16.7% Rupees: 15 / 12.5% Bows: 13 / 10.8% Gear: 9 / 7.5% Shields: 6 / 5% Runes: 4 / 3.3% Nintendo loves to hand out weapons it seems, with more than half the Shrines rewarding you with weapons (a grand total of 74 Weapons littered underground in convenient chests). Here's the numbers for the ratios: Swords: 31 / 42% Two Handers: 23 / 31% Spears: 17 / 23% Other: 3 / 4% (2 Sledgehammers + 1 Leaf) - Interestingly, all in all, there are 30 Ice Arrows to collect and 15 Bomb Arrows. 2/3rds of all arrows you collect will be Ice Arrows. No Standard, Fire or Electric. - For Ores, well here's the numbers: 32 Total - 4 Ambers (13%), 11 Opals (34%), 2 Topaz's (6%), 3 Rubies (9%), 5 Sapphires (16%), and 7 Diamonds (22%). - Rupees! Here you go: 2 Purple Rupees (13%), 7 Silver Rupees (47%), and 6 Gold Rupees (40%) for a total of...(drumroll)…$2600! Huh. Lakes, Wasteland and Ridgeland have the most with $400 in each. - 20 Ancient Cores of which 6 (30%) are Giant Cores. Oddly enough, you'll find the most Cores in the Woodland Shrines. - Runes…obviously only 4. Not sure who finds this interesting but I certainly do! :) [link] [comments]

Twilight Princess was an educational masterpiece. Posted: 02 Apr 2017 05:36 AM PDT The vocabulary alone was enough to keep my daughter challenged and engaged. She's scared of being startled so it's hard to find ways to get her to engage. She is just so excited to herd goats. Idk where I was really going with this...just wanted to share! [BoTW] I'm making a document on all of the NPCs in BotW Posted: 02 Apr 2017 05:25 AM PDT i'm working on this right now and probably later, so feel free to tell me how to improve it or things like that. [link] [comments]
[BoTW] This game feels like a Ghibli movie to me and my daughter just said the same thing Posted: 02 Apr 2017 12:46 AM PDT One of the first things that came to my mind when I left the cave and got a glimpse of the plateau field was how much it looked and felt like the lovely movies of Studio Ghibli. Today my 5 year old daughter sat down and played for the first time. She mostly climbed mountains and ran from Bokoblins, but then she entered a forest and asked me "Daddy, is this the same forest as in Ronja Rövardotter?" I just smiled and said that it probably was. Half an hour later she saw something in the sky and stopped abruptly. It was Naydra. She freaked out. "DAD! IT'S HAKU FROM SPIRITED AWAY!" My heart melted. Haven't seen her this happy playing a video game since she finished Castle Rock on Rayman Legends on her own. I love this game! [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Apr 2017 06:59 AM PDT I've been playing zelda games for a long time, since SNES days with ALTtP. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I have always enjoyed the water level's in 3d Zelda games, even if they were tough, and at time's tedious. Anyway the point of this question is that, so much of hyrule is covered in water. Not being able to explore the under water area's via Iron Boots, or a zora-like mechanic you get when you use the Zora Armor akin to MM Zora mask. [link] [comments]

[Spoilers] Eventide Island ruined me Posted: 02 Apr 2017 06:13 AM PDT (southeast corner) First I lost one of the orbs in the bog. There's no way to get it out again without starting over. Then you've got to get that orb into the altar on the island. I have no clue how to get it there. It's not magnetic, I broke all the weapons trying to golf it over with stasis, and as a last resort I tried octo balloons but one is too low and two goes straight up. I'm at a loss.
