[Spoilers] Final memory dlc hint?

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 09:24 AM PDT

In the final memory you can get something struck me as odd. Why did the shieka that came to save the princess and link at the end have a voice? The game seems to separate significant characters from others by giving them a voice. Could this unnamed npc play a bigger role in the upcoming dlc?

[BOTW STORY SPOILER] What was the message?

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 09:58 PM PDT

so I beat the game with all memories and divine beast completed. I watched all the cutseens in proper order before taking on Ganon and gettitg the "good ending". I watched all the ending cutseens until the very end waiting for one thing... What was the message Zelda wanted to give to Link? If you recall, in the seen where Zelda is placing the Master sword in the Lost woods pedestal She asks the Great deku tree to give Link a message. But before she lets it out He stops her and say that she should be the one to tell him. But in the ending cutseens she never seems to tell Link anything, but rather asks Link if he remembers her or that she cant hear the sword voice anymore. Was this suppose to be what she wanted to tell him or did she say it earlier? I'm honestly very confused.

EDIT:

I would just like to clarify my question. Do you ever actually hear Zelda's message to Link?

My Experience with Breath of the Wild

My first attempt ever at painting, a gift for a friend.

Somehow Linebeck's theme from Phantom Hourglass still gives me the feels. Here's an odd piece of fan-art I made using the tune.

A Zelda medley in the shape of the Master Sword

Does anyone wish we had more time with the characters?

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 05:02 PM PDT

Characters like Zelda, Urbosa, Revali, The King...

Does anyone feel not just that they wished for more, but are sad that we never got to know them? See them evolve across the game, how they react in many situations, etc.

I feel like I only got a "character trailer" worth of time with each, which makes me kinda sad.

Ocarina of Time was about saving time right? Literally restoring time and saving the world. Breath of the Wild seems to be about murdering time...

BOTW: Riju's age

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 01:30 AM PDT

hey so this is possibly spoilers for botw, so be warned (nothing major, tho)

so riju, the gerudo chief. cute kid. i distinctly remember a conversation with an npc in gerudo town saying she was 35 years old, but i haven't been able to find that dialogue option again (since conversations change depending on your progress in the game) and i can't find anything online to back this up. did i hallucinate the conversation? did anyone else get this too?

sorry, i'm just doing this thing where i'm trying to figure out the lifespans of different hyrule races, and riju's age was the most concrete clue i had for the gerudo… until i started questioning if i'd imagined it or not :/

so yeah, if anyone could just tell me if they saw this conversation too, or if i'm just bonkers, that'd be a real help. thanks!

Why was Skyward Sword so unhyped before release?

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 11:21 PM PDT

I remember back in 2011 many Zelda fans, myself included, didn't seem to really care that a new Zelda game was coming out. Compared to the hype for TP and BOTW, the hype for SS was pretty much nonexistent. It's kind of eerie, it's almost like everyone had a premonition that it would be underwhelming (master, there is a 95 percent chance that Skyward Sword will be a let-down). But why exactly was this the case? Obviously we don't have future vision, so we can't know how a game will turn out before we play it (the best we can do is make an educated guess). Did it come too late in the Wii's lifetime? Was it the fear of motion controls, made worse by the disastrous showing at E3 2010? Did Skyrim steal all the attention? What other reasons are there that I'm not thinking of?

BoTW "Survival" Playthrough

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 10:21 AM PDT

I beat BoTW just before Easter and I'm starting to get the itch to jump back in. However, I felt that by the end of the game I was not only way better at playing the game, but my equipment was so great that there wasn't really much in the way of actual danger for Link. Before facing Ganon, I had all the shrines and all the upgrades for the equipment I liked.

I want to play the game again, but I'm not really looking to do a speedrun and going back to my old save to collect all the Korok seeds is too much for my non-completionist soul, so I decided to craft my own "survival mode."

The goal for survival mode isn't to beat the game with three hearts or avoid the four dungeons, but it's a way to take what I've learned from my first playthough to help craft a challenging and rewarding experience for my second playthrough. Ok, enough talk. Here are the rules for "survival mode."

Rules for Survival Breath of the Wild:

  1. No teleporting. Enjoy the scenery and the challenge that comes with adventuring.
  2. You can only eat food if Link would actually be able to eat it right then, not mid-combat or mid-climb. This does not apply to potions; I feel like those are quick enough to drink mid-action.
  3. No changing clothes unless you are at a town. Bonus Challenge - Try to get the house in Hateno ASAP and then you can only change clothes there OR set a "home base" where Link "keeps" his clothes.
  4. You must rest at a campfire at least once every 48 hours.
  5. You must eat food at least once every 24 hours.
  6. You must have a reason for upgrading your hearts/stamina. Ex: You upgrade only after killing Lynels and/or Hinoxes.
  7. OPTIONAL - When you die, drop all your gear and teleport back to the Shrine of Resurrection. You can keep your horse.
  8. Change whatever you want from these rules to suit your interests.

The thing I like most about this style over speedruns and minimalist runs is that it still allows you to upgrade yourself, but it will take significantly longer and thus it may discourage you from getting every single upgrade and instead focus on what you need to defeat Ganon.

If you have any thought on improving my "survival mode," I'd love to hear them!

Edit: I forgot to add my rule for upgrading hearts and stamina.

TL;DR - Alternate playstyle to BoTW; read the list above for the rules.

I wish this game would have let you save Hyrule

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 06:39 PM PDT

Now I do think the concept of this game's story is cool. 100 years ago the big bad guy broke loose and you all failed and the world got fucked. Most of the world is in ruins.

But part of me wishes that this game would have started before the 100 years. Let you start out as Link who's still a nobody, but eventually becomes the hero of Hyrule and receives the Master Sword. You would have rallied the four champions and the Divine Beasts and eventually confronted Ganon when he first broke loose, and defeated him. The main reason why I think this would have been cool is because it would have given a lot more opportunity for other characters to be developed, namely the four champions and king Rhoam. I also would have really liked to explore a pristine version of Hyrule Castle and its surroundings.

Instead, the game is now "I guess you should go save that Zelda chick and destroy Ganon. Free the divine beasts if you want to, I guess."

Anyone else feel this way?

Is it at all possible Nintendo was influenced by this melody from this Philip Glass piece – or vice versa? I swear it's the Great Fairy's Fountain theme's kin. When was the Fairy's music first introduced? This piece was composed 1993/99.

Breath of the Wild's Ambiguous Timeline placement.

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 06:18 PM PDT

The mention of "Twilight" is not concrete evidence that Botw takes place after Twilight Princess in the Child Timeline. The existence of Koroks is not concrete evidence that Botw takes place after Wind Waker in the Adult Timeline. Remember, Botw takes place at least 10,000 years after other Zelda games. There's a lot of room for something to happen. It could be enough time for a Twilight-related event to occur in the Defeated Hero Timeline, or it could be enough time for Koroks to evolve.
