I would like to see more Golem Mobs.

Posted: 26 Apr 2017 10:48 AM PDT

The Iron Golem and the Snow Golem are mobs that I most of the time forget even exist. It doesn't help they aren't that useful either (especially Snow Golems.)

I don't particuarly have any amazing ideas for new ones. Maybe a Sand Golem? Nether Golem? Bone Golem?

New in 17w17a: Functions in Command Blocks!

Posted: 26 Apr 2017 01:59 PM PDT

Snapshot 17w17a added a very important feature: advancements can now run commands as a reward. These commands go in a list in the advancement's JSON file, and you can have as many as you want.

Sounds cool so far, but you know what the really cool part is? When you grant the advancement with a command, the reward commands are run before the chain continues. Which means that now this is possible:

/advancement grant @a only custom:has_unique_id # In the file custom/has_unique_id.json: { "criteria": { "run": { "trigger": "minecraft:impossible" } }, "rewards": { "commands": [ "scoreboard players operation @s ID = #NEXT ID", "scoreboard players add #NEXT ID 1" ] } }

That one command up top, run on repeat, can now grant every player a unique ID when they join. Since we don't revoke the advancement, it won't give players a new ID. Since the next ID is incremented in the same advancement, two players will never have the same ID.

Also consider:

# custom/drop_beacon "commands": [ "summon minecraft:armor_stand ~ ~ ~ {Tags:[beacon,newBeacon]}", "scoreboard players operation @e[tag=newBeacon] ID = @s ID", "scoreboard players tag @e[tag=newBeacon] remove newBeacon" ] # custom/tp_to_beacon "commands": [ "execute @e[tag=beacon] ~ ~ ~ /scoreboard players operation @s temp = @s ID", "scoreboard players operation @e[tag=beacon] temp -= @s ID", "tp @s @e[tag=beacon,score_temp_min=0,score_temp=0,c=1]" ]

By granting and revoking these advancements to all players, we can have every player summon a "beacon" with the same ID as themselves, and teleport to it at will. You can teleport every player to their beacon at once, even though it involves doing math with scoreboards on every beacon to find the right one.

Many of these things were possible with the new looping abilities of command blocks, but now

  1. Code can be easier to understand
  2. Code does not have to be duplicated
  3. We don't have to use /setblock, which sends block updates
  4. We don't have to bend command chains into physical loops

This is a great new feature, and I for one am very excited to see where it goes.

EDIT: Corrected syntax.

In the new 17w17a snapshot. Going into the end will delete the Level_dat and the level_dat_old files. Do not go into the end unless you have a backup of your world.

I want to continue to prompt Mojang to increase the amount of strongholds per world to infinite.

Posted: 26 Apr 2017 10:13 AM PDT

So for 1.9 they increased the amount of strongholds to 128 instead of 3. This was a step in the right direction but I still don't understand why they haven't made them infinite yet. I'm guessing they just want to keep them rare. But by doing this it doesn't really make them more rare, it just makes the End exclusive to people who live near spawn which makes no sense.

1: People like myself, who like to travel 30K or even 100k blocks from spawn to find their home and keep it hidden from other players, are punished in that they have no access to the End, the only source for some of the best resources and items in the game. The End is meant to be the end goal for players, it should not be exclusive.

2: This is just another benefit of infinite strongholds, the ability for players who live tens of thousands of blocks in opposite directions can now meet up in the End to meet/trade.

A good opportunity for the advancements system

Posted: 26 Apr 2017 02:24 PM PDT

I believe the advancements system should incorporate a "tutorial" for redstone. This would likely come in the form of a separate tab to the 4 we already have, and just provide step by step goals for redstone development. The tab would open upon mining redstone, and then continue from there. Ie, one advancement would be to craft a redstone torch, and the subsequent would be to craft a repeater, or something of the sort.

The primary reason for this is, my personal experience with friends is that redstone mechanics are hardly touched by new players, largely because it may not even be encountered in a standard survival vanilla world. This is limiting, and I believe having an advancements tab dedicated to restone engineering would be beneficial to exposing new players to this aspect of the game.
